Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Monday in Memorial Park Cemetery with the Rev. Bill Wade, associate pastor of Polk Street United Methodist Church, officiating. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2820 Virginia Circle. Mrs. Pittman was born in Granbury. She received her bachelor of science and master's of education degrees from West Texas State University. In 1943, she moved to Amarillo after living and teaching in Tascosa. In 1973, Mrs. Pittman retired as an elementary school teacher for the Amarillo Independent School District. She was a member of Polk Street United Methodist Church, the Vaughn-Selby Sunday School Class, the Amarillo Senior Citizens Association and was a volunteer with Meals on Wheels. She married Delie Pittman in 1931. He died in 1989. Survivors include a brother, Albert Gregory of Fort Worth, two nephews and a niece. Darrel K. Davis Sr. Darrel K. Davis Sr., 75, of Amarillo, died Wednesday, May 5, 1999. Services were at 1 p.m. Saturday in Memorial Park Funeral Home, Chapel of Memories, 6969 E. Interstate 40, with Keith Boutwell, chaplain, officiating. Burial was in Memorial Park Cemetery in Spencer, Iowa. Mr. Davis was born in Grant Center, Iowa, and was an Army veteran of World War II. He was an USDA meat inspector for the Department of Agriculture. He moved to Amarillo in 1987 from Tama, Iowa, where he was a member of Eagles Lodge. He married Shirley May Carter in 1942 at Sioux City, Iowa. Survivors include his wife; a son, Darrel Kendall Davis Jr. of Amarillo; two daughters, Janet Moore of Lufkin and Diana Feese of McCook Lake, S.D.; a brother, Paul Davis of Rich; 10 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren. The family suggests memorials be to Baptist St. Anthony's Hospice. Luella O'Brien Luella O'Brien, 92, of Amarillo, died Friday, May 7, 1999. Mrs. O'Brien was born in Dewey County in Oklahoma and moved to Amarillo in 1955 from Ralls. She was retired from retail sales and was a member of First Baptist Church. She married Arthur Lee Rice Sr. in 1927 at Lubbock. He died in 1975. She married George O'Brien in 1978 at Amarillo. He died in 1996. Survivors include two sons, Arthur Rice of Lubbock and Bill Rice of Phoenix; two daughters, Joyce Hughes of Amarillo and Bettie James of Big Lake; a brother, R.O. Cruse of Amarillo; two sisters, Irene Allen of Amarillo and Evie Pherigo of Howe; 11 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and two great-greatgrandchildren. The family suggests memorials be to Ronald McDonald House. Mary Louise Boyd Whetstone Mary Louise Boyd Whetstone, 76, a former Amarillo resident, died Tuesday, May 4, 1999, at Phoenix. Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Westminster Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Ron Holmes officiating. Private burial will be in Llano Cemetery by N.S. Griggs & Sons Funeral Directors, 2615 Paramount Blvd. Memorial services will be held in Phoenix at a later date. Mrs. Whetstone was born in Lockney and had lived for most of her life in Amarillo. She graduated from Amarillo High School and Amarillo College and was a secretary for Diamond Shamrock and later, for M.T. Johnson and Johnson Ranches for many years. She was a member of the Knife and Fork Club, Tascosa Country Club and Westminster Presbyterian Church. Her first husband of 47 years, Michael A. Boyd of Amarillo, died in 1991. She married Rex D. Whetstone in 1994. Survivors include her husband of Cave Creek, Ariz; a daughter Jan Hamrick of Austin; a son, Clay Boyd of Houston; and four grandchildren. Harry S. Dorsey Harry S. Dorsey, 64, of Hereford, Ariz., died Tuesday, May 4, 1999. Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday in Caprock Christian Fellowship Church, 2817 E. 34th, Amarillo with Dan Powers, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery's Mausoleum East by Memorial Park Funeral Home, 6969 E. Interstate 40. Mr. Dorsey was born in Bruce, W.V., and grew up in Winchester, Va. He entered the Air Force when he was 18 then later entered the ministry. He traveled around the country as an evangelist and truck driver. He married Fairlen Essman in 1977 at Amarillo. He was preceded in death by two infant sons. Survivors include his wife; a son, John Dorsey of Hereford, Ariz.; a daughter, Jeanetta Dorsey of Hereford; two brothers, Paul Dorsey of Arizona and Virgil Dorsey of Virginia; and two sisters, Betty Dorsey and Dora Dorsey, both of Virginia. Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday in Dunn Funeral Home Memorial Chapel. Burial will be in the family plot at Tucumcari Memorial Park Cemetery. Mr. McKinney was born in Kemp, Okla., and had lived in the area since childhood. He was an employee of Southern Pacific Railroad until his retirement in 1977. His wife, Leona McKinney, died in 1992. Survivors include four sons, Roy McKinney, Kenneth McKinney and Jerry McKinney, all of Tucumcari, and Jimmie McKinney of Bloomfield, N.M.; two daughters, Beatrice Willson and Elinora Perez, both of Tucumcari; five brothers, Bob Turnbeaugh of Tucumcari, Bill Turnbough of Pahrump, Nev., John Henry McKinney and Lindel McKinney, both of Doniphan, Mo., and Mansel McKinney of St. Louis; four sisters, Lois Comfort of Joplin, Mo., and Norma Dudley, Thelma Brown and Faye Darnell, all of Doniphan; 19 grandchildren; 50 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. Viewing will be from 10 a.m. today until service time on Monday at the funeral home. Etta Mitchell CLOVIS, N.M. - Etta Mitchell, 103, died Saturday, May 8, 1999. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Monday in Lawn Haven Memorial Gardens. Arrangements are by Steed-Todd Funeral Home. Mrs. Mitchell was born in Indian Territory and spent her childhood in Oklahoma before moving to New Mexico in 1929. She was a farmer at Ranchvale and cooked at the officer's club at the Air Force base during World War II, was a dietitian at Clovis Memorial Hospital and at Highland School and cooked for five years at the Sacred Heart School at the Catholic Church. Later, she cared for the elderly in her home. She married Asa Wade Eaton in 1909. He died in 1933. Her second husband, Floyd Mitchell, died in 1969. She was also preceded in death by two sons, Emil Eaton and Austin Eaton, a daughter, Alma Holland, and a granddaughter, Frankie Eaton. Survivors include two daughters, Rubye Cooper and Christina Hodges, both of Clovis; a sister, Julia Mantooth of Maysville, Okla.; a brother, Eulys Ray Baker of Clovis; 14 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; 44 great-great-grandchildren; and three great-great-greatgrandchildren. Phil Trinkle CLOVIS, N.M. - Phil Trinkle, 71, died Friday, May 7, 1999. Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Monday in Lawn Haven Memorial Gardens with the Rev. Dick Ross officiating. Mr. Trinkle was born in Orleans, Ind., and had been a resident of Clovis for the past 50 years. He served with the Army during World War II and was a member of the Eagles Lodge. Survivors include five daughters, Phyllis Billings and Pat Roberts, both of Dallas, and Sammye May, Barbara Patterson and Debbie Tyler, all of Clovis; a son, Donnie Smith of Clovis; two sisters, Marilyn Clark and Jo Egerton, both of Clovis; a brother, Kenneth Trinkle of Virginia; 13 grandchildren; and six greatgrandchildren. Oklahoma Bob Stewart BALKO, Okla. - Bob Stewart, 58, died Friday, May 7, 1999. Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday in Bethel Baptist Church in Hardesty, Okla., with the Rev. Horace Tyson, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Gray Cemetery by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Home in Perryton. Mr. Stewart was born in Beaver County and had been a longtime resident of the area. He was a construction worker and the first organ, tissue and bone donor at Ochiltree General Hospital. Survivors include his stepfather, J.D. McDonald of Balko; a sister, Brenda Secrist of Las Cruces, N.M.; a stepsister, Beth McDonald of Perryton; and a stepbrother, Elvin McDonald of Des Moines, Iowa. Kansas Louis V. Salmon ELKHART, Kan. - Louis V. Salmon, 91, died Tuesday, May 4, 1999. Services were at 4 p.m. Saturday in the Church of the Nazarene with the Rev. John Shellenberger officiating. Burial was in Elkhart Cemetery by Harrell Funeral Home. Mr. Salmon was born in Haviland and had lived in the area since 1993. He was a trucker, a cowboy and a member of Ensley Church of the Nazarene in Pensacola, Fla. He married Thelma Gladys Shaw in 1933 at Elkhart. She died in 1994. Survivors include a son, Jack D. Monte Wike, pastor of First United Methodist Church. Arrangements are by Seigler Funeral Home of Matador. Mrs. Keahey was born in Erath County and moved to Roaring Springs when an infant. She graduated from Roaring Springs High School and Sul Ross College at Alpine, and received a master's degree from North Texas State University at Denton. She taught in Roaring Springs and later in Matador for 42 years. She was a member of Roaring Springs Methodist Church and the Predicta Study Club. Survivors include two nephews, Bob Montieth of Odessa and Earl Montieth of Humble; and two nieces, Kayann Heinly of Manhattan, Kan., and Rhonda Farrell of The Woodlands. Mr. Davis was born in Ralls. He graduated from Floydada High School in 1957 and from West Texas State University in 1962. He served in the Army. In 1983, Mr. Davis moved from Dumas to Abernathy where he was employed by Northrup King in New Deal for 35 years. He was a member of Abernathy First Baptist Church and was a volunteer firefighter in Abernathy. He married Betty Martin in 1970 at Dumas. Survivors include his wife; a son, Tony Davis of Lubbock; his mother, Jo Davis of Floydada; a sister, Lana Peterson of Amarillo; and a grandson. She was a member of St. Peters Catholic Church in Olton. She married Fernando Hernandez in 1944 at Clairmont. He died in 1985. Survivors include three daughters, Lisa Aleman and Juanita Gonzalez, both of Amarillo, and Lupe Perez of Olton; three brothers, Gill Almanza and Phillip Almanza, both of Rotan, and Pete Almanza of Odessa; nine grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. Ruby Belle Vaughn TULIA - Ruby Belle Vaughn, 72, died Wednesday, May 5, 1999. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Monday in Rose Hill Cemetery with the Rev. Don Hill, pastor of Calvary Baptist Church of Tulia, officiating. Arrangements are by Wallace Funeral Home of Tulia. Mrs. Vaughn was born in Lamar County and grew up in Memphis where she attended school. She lived in Dumas before moving to Grand Prairie for 20 years. In 1985, she moved to Tulia, where she was a member of Calvary Baptist Church. She married H.L. "Bud" Vaughn in 1943 at Hollis, Okla. He died in February. Survivors include three daughters, Barbara Barnes of Rockwood, Tenn., Linda Smith of Portland, Ore., and Laveta Hankins of Amarillo; five brothers, Charley Nolen and Dean Nolen, both of Tulia, Melvin Nolen of Dallas, Raymond Nolen of Anton and John Nolen of Wichita Falls; a sister, Sue Overton of Amarillo; eight grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. Katy Sims BORGER - Katy Sims, 93, died Friday, May 7, 1999. Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday in Brown Funeral Directors Chapel of the Fountains with the Rev. Orville Rogers, pastor of First Baptist Church of Stinnett, officiating. Burial will be in Memory Gardens Cemetery in Pampa. A native of Gause, Mrs. Sims was a Borger resident for 72 years. She was a homemaker and a member of First Baptist Church in Stinnett and Order of Eastern Star. She was preceded in death by her husband, G.A. Sims, in 1995. Survivors include two sons, Clea B. Sims of Borger and Bob Wesley Sims of Universal City; a daughter, Shirley Propes of Westlake Village, Calif.; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Lorene R. Gay BORGER - Lorene R. Mrs. Gay was a native of Yale, Okla., and a Borger resident for 70 years. She was an accountant and assistant probation officer for Hutchinson, Ochiltree and Sherman counties. Forrest Lee Denton Sr. PANHANDLE - Forrest Lee Denton Sr., 83, died Friday, May 7, 1999. Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday in First Christian Church with Dr. Doug Harvey, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Claude Cemetery by Rector Funeral Home, 2800 S. Osage, Amarillo. Mr. Denton was born in Meridan. In 1968, he retired after 28 years as an engine foreman for Sante Fe Railroad. He then farmed and ranched near Goodnight. Mr. Denton was a member of First Christian Church of Panhandle and a fiddler for the Panhandle Goodtimers. He moved to Panhandle in 1994 from Goodnight. He married Maxine Routson in 1945 at Happy. Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Frances McAffrey of Amarillo and Joyce "Sue" Elliott of Tucson, Ariz.; two sons, Forrest Lee Denton Jr. of Wylie and James Calvin Denton of Fort Smith, Ark.; three sisters, Altha Todd of Waterford, Calif., Lillian Williams of Shamrock and Rachel Key of Amarillo; three brothers, Jay Denton of Borger, Clarence Denton of Plainview and Charles Denton of Amarillo; 11 grandchildren; and 25 great-grandchildren. Robert E. Mercer FRIONA - Robert E. "Bo" Mercer, 65, died Thursday, May 6, 1999. Graveside services were at 11 a.m. Saturday in Friona Cemetery with the Rev. Don Boren of First United Methodist Church officiating. Arrangements were by Ellis-Blackwell Funeral Home of Friona. Mr. Mercer was born in Clovis, N.M., and was a longtime Parmer County resident. A retired farm laborer, he was a member of First United Methodist Church in Friona and the Castro County Masonic Lodge No. 879. Survivors include his stepmother, Mildred Mercer, and a brother, Joe Mercer, both of Friona. Robert D. Rogers CHANNING - Robert D. Rogers, 57, died Thursday, May 6, 1999. Memorial services will be at 1:30 p.m. Monday in Rexford Community Church with the Rev. Gerald Ackerman officiating. Services were also held at 10 a.m. Saturday in Cal Farley's Boys Ranch Chapel with the Rev. Glendall Smith officiating. Arrangements are by Hass Funeral Home in Dalhart. Mr. Rogers was born on the family farm north of Menlo, Kan., and attended schools in Menlo. Until 1987, he farmed in the Rexford community. From 1987 until 1999, he and his wife worked for Cal Farley's Boys Ranch. He married Connie Sue Anderson in 1967. Survivors include his wife; three sons, Rod Rogers of Laramie, Wyo., Randy Rogers of Manhattan, Kan., and Tex Rogers of McPherson, Kan.; and a grandson. During World War II, she was an overseas operator and, for 15 years, she was an AT&T telephone operator. She and her husband owned Perry Sign Co. for many years. She was a Methodist. She married Phinis Eldon Perry in 1930 at Breckenridge. He died in 1981. Survivors include three nephews, Murray Ferguson of New Braunfels, Don Ferguson of San Antonio and Don Chase of The Colony; and a niece, Alma Ellen Godfrey-Neese of Albany. Burial will be in Olton Cemetery by Foskey-Lilley-McGill Funeral Home of Olton. Mrs. Bearden was born in Edna and moved to Olton in 1942 from Paducah. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Olton. She married W.W. "Bill" Bearden in 1934 at Paducah. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1959 and by a son, Royce Bearden, in 1989. Survivors include two daughters, Beverly Hasha of Graham and Becky DeBerry of Olton; seven grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. Mr. Coble was born in Harmon County in Oklahoma and had been a resident of Pampa for 44 years. He was the owner/operator of Jack Coble Motors. He married Mary Young in 1974 at Las Vegas. Mr. Thomas was born in Slidell and had been a resident of Pampa since 1984. In 1945, he went to work for Mobil Pipeline and retired in 1984 as a gauger foreman. He served in the Army during World War II and was a member of Central Baptist Church. He married Dorothy Nell Tunnell in 1941 at Fredrick, Okla. Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Mikey Louise Oldham of Nashville, Tenn., and Susie Porter of San Marcos; two brothers, T.S. Mrs. Dwyer was born in Vernon and had been a resident of McLean for the past 45 years, where she was a member of Church of Christ. She was a homemaker and retired from the garment industry. She married Cloyce F. Bench in 1943 at Los Angeles County. He died in 1962. She married Arthur James Dwyer in 1978. He also preceded her in death. Survivors include a daughter, Phyllis Lewis of Amarillo; a son, Gene Bench of Mansfield; a sister, Grace McClellan of McLean; two grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Mr. Schlabs was born in Taylor and moved to Parmer County in 1930 from Scotland, Texas. He was a farmer and a member of St. Anthony's Catholic Church and Knights of Columbus. He married Teresa Heck in 1925 at Vernon. She died in 1996. Burial will be in West Park Cemetery by Parkside Chapel Funeral Home. Mr. Rowe was born in Amarillo and moved to Hereford 18 years ago. He taught auto repair for the Hereford Independent School District, where he was president of the Texas Classroom Teachers Association. He was a member of First Baptist Church. He married Sherron Taylor in 1979 at Shallowater. Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Lacee of the home; a son, Josh of the home; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Bill Rowe of Hereford; and two sisters, Deena Rowe of West Virginia and Sherri Forbes of Colorado Springs, Colo. She was a deputy clerk in the Hemphill County Tax Collectors Office from 1978 until her retirement in 1989 and was a member of First Baptist Church. She married R.T. Smith in 1945 at Canadian. Hazel Walker Wimberly TULIA - Hazel Walker Wimberly, 88, of Spring and formerly of Tulia, died Saturday, May 8, 1999. Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday in Rose Hill Cemetery with Trey Morgan, minister of Central Church of Christ in Tulia, officiating. Arrangements are by Wallace Funeral Home of Tulia. Mrs. Wimberly was born and raised in Haskell County. In 1941, she moved to Swisher County where she was a homemaker and member of Central Church of Christ. In 1993, she moved to Spring. She married Paul Wimberly in 1942 at Tulia. He died in 1992. Survivors include a daughter, Paula Dobbs of Spring; three brothers, Baylor Walker of Wichita Falls, Lonnie Walker of Munday and K.D. Nina Vaughn Evans GRUVER - Nina Vaughn Evans, 90, died Friday, May 7, 1999. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Monday in Gruver Cemetery by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Home in Spearman. Mrs. Evans was born in Milford and moved to the area 43 years ago from Hereford. She was a homemaker, a Baptist and a member of Rolling Plains Mule Train. She married Joe B. Evans in 1928 at Wichita Falls. He died in 1973. Survivors include five sons, Bill Evans of Satanta, Kan., Don Evans of Gruver, Gene Evans of Waco, Gearl Evans of Killeen and Jerry Evans of Spearman; a daughter, Mildred Schreuer of Belton; 20 grandchildren; and many great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
