Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery by Blackburn-Shaw Funeral Directors, Memorial Chapel, Fifth Avenue and Pierce St. Mr. Turner was born and raised in Amarillo. He had been affiliated with the State Center Workshop and attended the Jan Werner Day Care Center. He was a member of San Jacinto Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his father, Revis V. Turner, in 1953. Survivors include his mother and stepfather, Clara Mae and Michie Woods of the home. The family will be at 923 S. Mississippi. Gertie Alice Smith Gertie Alice Smith, 93, of Amarillo, died Tuesday, Jan. 12, 1999. Graveside services will be at 4:30 p.m. today in Lockney Cemetery at Lockney with Kline Nall, a nephew, officiating. Arrangements are by Moore-RoseWhite Funeral Home of Lockney. Miss Smith was born in Floyd County. She graduated high school in the Sand Hill community and attended West Texas State College at Canyon. She moved to Amarillo in 1938 from Floyd County. She was a Church of Christ member. She was a retired school teacher and had taught at Pleasant Valley and in the Sand Hill community school district. Survivors include a brother, Milton "Mit" Smith of Mountainair, N.M. Kunverjibhai K. Patel Kunverjibhai K. Patel, 73, of Amarillo, died Tuesday, Jan. 12, 1999. Services will be at 10 a.m. today in Memorial Park Funeral Home Chapel of Memories, 6969 E. Interstate 40. Cremation will be by Memorial Park. Mr. Patel was born in Gujarat, India. He was a teacher in India before coming to the United States to work as an inn keeper. He retired eight years ago. Survivors include his wife, Godaveryben K.; two sons, Kazyanji K. Patel and Pravin K. Patel, both of Amarillo; three daughters, Niruben B. Patel of Oklahoma City, Hansaben M. Patel of Phoenix and Alkaben R. Patel of Sardis, Miss.; a brother; three sisters; and nine grandchildren. Wilbur Dean Fox Wilbur Dean Fox, 60, of Amarillo, died Sunday, Jan. 10, 1999. Mr. Bowen graduated from West Texas State University. He was employed as an auditor by the state of Texas and was a member of the First Presbyterian Church. He married Norma Ann Price in 1960 at Wichita, Kan. Survivors include his wife; a son, Scott Bowen of Fort Worth; a daughter, Valorie Markman of Amarillo; two brothers, Bill Bowen of Gainsville, Fla., and Jerry Bowen of Fort Allegany, Pa.; and six grandchildren. Eugene W. Chancler Eugene W. Chancler, 83, of Amarillo, died Tuesday, Jan. 12, 1999. Mr. Chancler was born in Mangum, Okla., and graduated from Spring Lake/Earth High School. He owned several businesses and retired after 14 years as maintenance supervisor of Amarillo College. He married Emily Dankowski in 1959. He was preceded in death by an infant son and two infant daughters. Survivors include his wife; a son, Jimmy E. Chancler; a daughter, Rosemary F. Chancler; three brothers, Carl Chancler, Samuel R. Wright, 69, of Canyon, died Tuesday, Jan. 12, 1999. Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday in First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Richard Bales, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Dreamland Cemetery by Brooks Funeral Directors. Mr. Wright was born in Jayton and graduated from Spur High School. He graduated from West Texas State College where he was a member of the football team that won the 1951 Sun Bowl. A Navy veteran, he served in the Korean War. For 32 years, Mr. Wright coached football and taught at schools in Crosbyton, Spring Lake/Earth, Brownfield, Dimmitt, Hamlin, Mexia and for seven years at Canyon High School. He was a member of First United Methodist Church of Canyon, West Texas State College TClub, Lions Club and the Optimists Club. He married Dorothy Bradshaw in 1953 at Oklahoma City. Survivors include his wife; three daughters, Becky Noland of New Deal, Rhonda Bainum of Lubbock and Gina Wopperer of Amarillo; a son, Randy Wright of Amarillo; his mother and stepfather, Mary Lou and Bill Brown of Kingsland; a sister, Marilyn Ann Gillespie of Kingsland; and seven grandchildren. Rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Friday in St. Peter's Catholic Church. Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday in St. Peter's Catholic Church by the Rev. Scott Adams. Burial will be in Elmhurst Cemetery by Henson-Novak Funeral Directors. Mrs. Predmore was born in Sargent, Neb., and graduated from Sargent High School in 1934. She married Harold Predmore in 1936 at Sargent. They farmed in the Sargent area until moving to the Eva/Four Corners area where they continued to farm until her husband's death in 1985. She moved to Guymon in the late 1980s. She was a member of St. Peter's Catholic Church and the Young at Heart Bowling League. Survivors include three children, LeRoy Predmore of Eva, Janice Gass of Dallas and Bill Predmore of Houston; a sister, Ester Long of Optima; a brother, Laurence Wolf of Colorado Springs, Colo.; six grandchildren and several great-grandchildren. Bennie McKee ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - J. Bennie McKee, 81, died Tuesday, Jan. 12, 1999. Services and entombment will be at 3 p.m. Friday in Chester T. French Memorial Mausoleum Chapel in Sunset Memorial Park with Henry L. Powell, pastor, officiating. Arrangements are by French Mortuary of Albuquerque. A former Amarillo resident, Mr. McKee was a member of Paramount Baptist Church. He was a geophysicist for Mobil Oil Co., and retired from Coastal Oil Co. In 1991, he moved to Albuquerque where he was a member of Berean Baptist Church. He served in the Navy during World War II. Survivors include his wife, Vennel; two daughters, Kay Jackson and Frances McKee, both of Van Horn, Texas; a son, Daniel McKee of Colorado Springs, Colo.; three grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and six stepgreat-grandchildren. Mr. Smallwood was born in Matador where he was a lifelong resident. He was a graduate of Matador High School and a retired farmer. He married Karen Smith in 1958. She died in 1966. Bennett Oscar Cornelius Jr. WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Bennett Oscar "Corky" Cornelius Jr., 87, died Tuesday, Jan. 12, 1999. Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday in Home Moravian Church with the Rev. Scott Venable and Bishop J.C. Hughes officiating. Burial will be in God's Acre by Vogler and Sons Main Street Chapel. Mr. Cornelius was a graduate of R.J. Reynolds High School and Duke University where he was an All-American football player. He was a member of Home Moravian Church and Forsyth Country Club. He was employed by the Burnett Corp., and Phillips Petroleum, retiring in 1953. Joe Dean Tidwell WICHITA FALLS - Joe Dean Tidwell, 71, died Tuesday, Jan. 12, 1999. Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday in Hampton Vaughan Crestview Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Mr. Tidwell was born in Duncan, Okla., and had lived in Wichita Falls since childhood. He was a football player at Wichita Falls High School, Midwestern State University and for the Baltimore Colts in 1953 and 1954. Mr. Tidwell was an Army veteran of the Korean War. Since 1975, he was a deputy sheriff for Wichita County where he was made deputy for life. He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church and was past exalted ruler of the Elks Lodge No. 1105. He married LaVerne Souther in 1961 at Henrietta. Survivors include his wife; a stepson, Bobby Steward of Canyon; a stepdaughter, Jean Ann of Mansfield; three grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. Mr. McPherson was born in Canadian and attended Amarillo College and Texas A&M University. In 1943, he enlisted in the Navy. After his discharge, he graduated from the Oregon State University School of Forestry with a bachelor's degree. In 1958, Mr. McPherson moved to Chico where he worked for Chico Molding Co., and D.R. Middleton Lumber Sales. He was a lifetime member of National Rifle Association, John Birch Society, past officer of Western Pine Association, Western Wood Molding Association and past president of Lakeview, Ore., Chamber of Commerce. Survivors include two sons, Robert of Thousand Oaks, Calif., and David of Greenville, S.C.; a sister, Selma Heard of Pampa, Texas; two brothers, Robert McPherson of Walla Walla, Wash., and William McPherson of Point Blank, Texas; his stepmother, Laverne Holcomb of Amarillo; and five grandchildren. He married Lillian Jones in 1931 at Bethany, Okla. She died in 1993. He also was preceded in death by a daughter, Judy Ford, in 1995. The family requests memorials be to Pampa Senior Citizens Center. Alice Edna Scoggins MEMPHIS - Alice Edna Scoggins, 87, died Tuesday, Jan. 12, 1999. Mrs. Scoggins was born in Alba and lived in Memphis most of her life. For 13 years, she was a nurse's aide at the Memphis Convalescent Center. She was a Methodist. She was preceded in death by her husband, Claude, in 1980. Survivors include four nephews, Buster Kerlee of Denton and James Watts, James O. Watts Jr., and Billy Kerlee, all of Clarendon; and three nieces, Edna Wheeler of Amarillo, Julie Watts of California and Betty McWhither of Hartley. The body will be available for viewing at the funeral home. Joseph B. Williams Jr. HEREFORD - Joseph B. "Joe" Williams Jr., 97, died Wednesday, Jan. 13, 1999. Memorial services will be at 10 a.m. Friday in the Lamar Room of Kings Manor/Westgate Nursing Home of Hereford with Carmen Flood, chaplain, officiating. Graveside services will follow at 2 p.m. in Memorial Park Cemetery in Amarillo by Gililland-Watson Funeral Home. Mr. Williams was born in Denton County. In 1966, he moved to Deaf Smith County from Amarillo. He was a stillman at the Texaco Oil Refinery and a member of the First United Methodist Church of Hereford, Lapidary Club of Hereford and Texas Retirement Club. In 1923, he married Jessie Mae Patton at Leslie. She died in 1961. He then married Bethany Yarborough in 1966. She died in 1979. He also was preceded in death by a son, Billy Williams, in 1988 and by a daughter, Arletta Lockhartin, in 1976. Survivors include a daughter, Marjorie Fuller of Amarillo; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. The family suggests memorials be to Kings Manor/Westgate of Hereford. Samuel D. Motley PAMPA - Samuel D. Motley, 79, died Wednesday, Jan. 13, 1999. Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in Open Door Church of God in Christ with the Rev. Hubert Kelley, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Memory Gardens Cemetery by Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors. Mr. Motley was born in Teague and moved to Pampa in 1946. A World War II veteran, he served in the Army as a staff sergeant. A self-employed shoe repairman for 60 years, he owned Sam's Shoe Service. He was a member of the Progressive Baptist Church. He married Lula Mae Johnson in 1946 at Pampa. Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Karen L. Andrews of Amarillo; a son, Edward Earl Motley of Valley Mills; a brother, Diamond T. Allen of Brownwood; and a granddaughter. Roberta Walker HEREFORD - Roberta Walker, 88, died Tuesday, Jan. 12, 1999. Private services are planned. Cremation and arrangements are by Ellis-Blackwell Funeral Home of Friona. Mrs. Walker was born in Robinson, Okla. She lived in Muleshoe for 12 years, then moved to Friona and moved to Hereford three years ago. She was a homemaker and member of First Christian Church of Hereford. She married Jack Edward Walker in 1928 at Vian, Okla. He died in 1993. Survivors include a son, Gene Walker of Hereford; three daughters, Frances Jennings of Muleshoe, Betty Robinson of Hereford and Jackie Walker of Dallas; six grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren. Mrs. Toombs was born in Buda and moved to Maple Community in 1929 from Littlefield. She was a homemaker and a member of First Baptist Church and Morton Eastern Star. She married Maurice Toombs in 1920 at Buda. He died in 1946. Survivors include a son, Harold Toombs of Maple; three daughters, Josephine Hines of Seminole, June Vinson of Spearman and Mary Beth Roberts of Morton; three brothers, Lee Burns of Lampasas, Council Burns of Hagerstown, Md., and Curtis Burns of Pflugerville; 11 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and 15 great-great-grandchildren. Sophrona Ann Gillespie BOOKER - Sophrona Ann Gillespie, 89, died Tuesday, Jan. 12, 1999. Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday in United Methodist Church in Follett with the Rev. Scott Richards, pastor, and the Rev. Floyd Thiesen officiating. Burial will be in Madison Cemetery in Slapout, Beaver County, Okla., by Seeger Funeral Home of Laverne, Okla. Mrs. Gillespie farmed and ranched until World War II. She them moved to Wichita, Kan., where she was employed by Boeing Aircraft until her retirement. She lived in Arizona for 20 years before moving to Booker in 1997. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jimmy Gillespie. Survivors include four children, M.E. "Ike" Gillespie of Mesa, Ariz., Joy Eileen Barker of Guymon, Okla., Calvin Gillespie of Follett and Elden "Jock" Gillespie of Rogers, Ark.; 14 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and 13 great-great-grandchildren. Fred Lee Mize LOCKNEY - Fred Lee Mize, 90, died Tuesday, Jan. 12, 1999. Services will be at 2 p.m. today in First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Russell Byard, minister, officiating. Burial will be in Lockney Cemetery by Moore-Rose-White Funeral Home of Lockney. Mr. Mize attended schools in Sweetwater. In 1942, he moved to Floyd County from Happy. He retired after 40 years with the Santa Fe Railroad. He was a member of Lockney Senior Citizens and First United Methodist Church. He married Cleopatra Caldwell in 1941 at Kress. She died in 1984. Survivors include three brothers, A.J. Mize of Lubbock, Bobby J. Mize of Odessa and Pete Mize of Comanche; and two sisters, Vera Ellison of Maggie Hillburn, both of Sweetwater.
