Prendergast PANHANDLE - Dr. J.L. "Jack" Prendergast, 78, died Saturday, August 14, 1999. Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. today in First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Les Hall officiating. Arrangements are by Minton/Chatwell Funeral Directors of Borger. Dr. Prendergast was born in Duff, Neb. and moved to Panhandle from Kit Carson, Colo., in 1952. He was a veteran of the Air Force and was a doctor of Osteopathy until his retirement in 1985. He was a member of the National and State Osteopathic Associations and was a Methodist. He married Phyllis Clark in 1942 at Yuma, Ariz. Survivors include his wife; two sons, James C. Prendergast of Saratoga Springs, N.Y. and George K. Prendergast of Kerrville; and six grandchildren. Rupert Carroll Tucker CLAUDE - Rupert Carroll "Bois d'arc" Tucker, 83, died Saturday, August 14, 1999. Services will be at 3 p.m. Tuesday in First United Methodist Church with the Revs. Gene Weinette, pastor, and Don Travis officiating. Burial will be in Claude Cemetery by N.S. Griggs & Sons Funeral Directors, 2615 Paramount Boulevard in Amarillo. Mr. Tucker was born in Claude, where he was a lifelong resident. For 25 years, he worked as a postal clerk, postmaster and rural route mail carrier. He served with the Army during World War II and was active in Claude city government. He served as both city councilman and mayor and was on the Panhandle Regional Planning Commission. He was also a coach for Little League baseball. He married Lois Katherine Wertenberger in 1949 at Claude. Survivors include his wife; three daughters, Eleanor Williams of Bloomfield, N.M., Melinda West of Guthrie, Okla. and Betty Young of Amarillo; and two grandchildren. The family suggests memorials be to First United Methodist Church of Claude; or Claude E.M.S. Association. George Longoria Luna PLAINVIEW - George Longoria Luna, 47, died Thursday, August 12, 1999. Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. today in Plainview Cemetery with Elbert Fadallan of Sacred Heart Church officiating. Arrangements are by Lemons Funeral Home. Mr. Luna was born in Robstown and moved to Plainview in 1978. He worked at Excel for 18 years and was a member of Sacred Heart Church. He married Herminia Luna in 1970 at Hereford. Survivors include his wife; three daughters, Rosalinda Luna, Guadalupe Luna and Beatrice Luna, all of Plainview; three sons, Johnny Luna, George Luna III and Ruben Luna, all of Plainview; his father, George Luna of Falfurrias; a brother, Juan Luna of Abilene; a sister, Leonilla Barrientos of Combes; and six grandchildren. Travis Berry Parr FLOYDADA - Travis Berry Parr, 87, died Saturday, August 14, 1999. Graveside services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday in Floydada Cemetery with the Rev. Wendell Horn, pastor of First United Methodist Church, officiating. Arrangements are by Moore-RoseWhite Funeral Home. Mr. Parr was born in Chico, Wise County, graduated from Childress High School in Childres and moved to Floyd County in 1934. He attended Draughan's Business College in Abilene and served with the Army Air Corps during World War II. He was a retired farmer and worked for the Highway Department and Lighthouse Electric. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and of First United Methodist Church. He married Thelma Eudy in 1949 at Amarillo. Survivors include his wife; two sons, David Wayne Parr of Rule and Jerry Dean Parr of Seguin; four grandchildren; and a great-grandchild. Buddie Pat Goff PERRYTON - Buddie Pat Goff, 56, died Sunday, August 15, 1999. Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Boxwell Brothers Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Harrol Waterbury officiating. Burial will be in Ochiltree Cemetery. Mr. Goff was born in Huntsville and moved to the area in 1987 from Guymon, Okla. He retired from the Navy after 20 years of service. Survivors include former wife, Wuanita A. Goff of San Diego; three daughters, Eugina Marie Harris and Patricia Ann Ledford, both of Birmingham, Ala. and Eleanor Goff of Perryton; his mother, Ada Marie Goff of Pampa; two brothers, Kenneth W. Goff of Pampa and Bobbie Lee Goff of Andrews; and seven grandchildren. Amarillo Catarina Pesina Catarina Pesina, 69, of Amarillo, died Thursday, August 12, 1999. Vigil services were at 6 p.m. Sunday in Colonial Funeral Chapel, 1010 West Ninth. Services will be at 3 p.m. today in Saint Hyacinth's Catholic Church with the Rev. Pat Carathers officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Mrs. Pesina was born in Uvalde and moved to Amarillo in 1992 from Hereford. She worked for Outreach Health Services as a home health care giver for 17 years and was a member of St. Hyacinth's Catholic Church. She married Domingo Pesina in 1948 at Littlefield. He died in 1996. Survivors include four sons, Rufus Pesina of Dallas and Domingo Pesina Jr., Martin R. Pesina and Richie Pesina, all of Amarillo; two daughters, Elizabeth Mendoza and Dora Perez, both of Amarillo; a brother, Sefeino De Los Santos of Roswell, N.M.; five sisters, Delfina Pesina, Elida De Los Santos, Guadalupe Flores, Hope Martinez and Olga De Los Santos, all of Hereford; 19 grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren. The family will be at 5410 Westgate Drive in Amarillo and suggests memorials be to Baptist St. Anthony's Hospice and Life Enrichment Center. Homer L. Haile Homer L. Haile, 82, of Amarillo, died Friday, August 13, 1999. Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday in Schooler-Gordon Funeral Directors Bell Avenue Chapel, 5400 Bell Street, with Dr. David Evans, pastor of Trinity Baptist Church in Amarillo, officiating. Additional services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in First Baptist Church in Stratford with the Rev. Jerry Stewart, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Stratford Cemetery in Stratford. Arrangements are by Morrison Funeral Directors of Dumas. Mr. Haile was born in Afton and lived most of his life in Stratford. He played football while a freshman at Texas Tech and served with the Army during World War II. In Stratford, he was a farmer and rancher until his retirement and was a deacon at First Baptist Church, where he was a member for more than 30 years. In 1995, he moved to Amarillo, where he attended Trinity Baptist Church. His first wife, Marijo Haile, died in 1976. He married Geneva Moon in 1977 at Clayton, N.M. Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Lorelyn Powers of Stratford and Marian Williams of Plano; a son, Allan Haile of Friona; two stepdaughters, Donna Moon of Victoria and Barbara Carruth of Flower Mound; 11 grandchildren; and a great-grandchild. The family will be at 1133 Sterling in Amarillo and suggests memorials be to a favorite charity. Mary Lee Walker Mary Lee Walker, 87, of Amarillo, died Saturday, August 14, 1999. Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday in Shamrock Cemetery in Shamrock with the Rev. Joe Jernigan, pastor of Calvary Christian Fellowship, officiating. Burial will be in Shamrock Cemetery by N.S. Griggs & Sons Funeral Directors, 2615 Paramount Boulevard. Mrs. Walker was born and raised in Shamrock, where she graduated from Shamrock High School. In 1965, she moved to Amarillo, where she worked for Eva's Fashions in Wolflin Village for many years. She was a member of Paramount Baptist Church. She married Jimmy Walker in 1953. He died in 1964. She was also preceded in death by a grandson, Jerry Roles, in 1976. Survivors include two daughters, Marilyn Klein of Amarillo and Joe Ann Brogdon of Huntsville; two sisters, Frances Worley of Childress and Dixie V. Martin of Las Vegas; four grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. The family suggests memorials be to the Panhandle Chapter of the Alzheimer's Association, 2200 W. Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday in Central Church of the Nazarene with the Revs. Bob Brown of the church and Phil Mercado, pastor of Trinity Fellowship, officiating. Burial will be in Llano Cemetery by BlackburnShaw Funeral Directors, 315 E. Fifth. Mrs. Combs was born in Childress and moved to Amarillo in 1954 from Memphis. She was a homemaker and a member of Central Church of the Nazarene. She married John Wesley Combs in 1948 at Memphis. He died in 1984. Survivors include five daughters, Lula Elizabeth of Winnsboro and Mary Ann Claytor, Carolyn S. McCarty, Ruth Waldrop and Patricia L. Giles, all of Amarillo; four sons, Robert D. Combs, Jerry W. Combs, Larry Don Combs and Richard B. Combs, all of Amarillo; two sisters, Vi Slater of Alice and Dorothy Karnes of Spearman; 20 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren. The family suggests memorials be to the American Heart Association. Herbert E. Bruns Herbert E. Bruns, 67, of Amarillo, died Sunday, August 15, 1999. Mr. Bruns was born in Vernon and moved to Amarillo in 1980 from Corsicana. He graduated from Texas Tech in 1953 and worked for the Soil Conservation Service as a soil scientist. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church. He married Veradelle Andrews in 1963 at Hereford. Survivors include his wife; three sons, Harlan Bruns and Hilrey Bruns, both of Amarillo and Hal Bruns of Lewisville; two daughters, Jan Countiss of Amarillo and Julie Hawkins of Huntsville, Ala.; a sister, Ruth Shubert of Colorado Springs, Colo.; and seven grandchildren. The family suggests memorials be to Trinity Lutheran Building Fund; or Kidney Foundation. Norma Marrs Norma Marrs, 77, of Amarillo, died Sunday, August 15, 1999. Services will be at 3 p.m. Tuesday in First Christian Church Sanctuary with Dr. Alan Lobaugh, senior pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Llano Cemetery by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2820 Virginia Circle. Mrs. Marrs was born in Okemah, Okla. She had lived in Amarillo since 1959 and was co-founder and co-owner of the Country Barn Steakhouse. She was a member of the Restaurant Association, Eastern Star and First Christian Church. Her husband, John Marrs, died in 1976. Survivors include a son, Donald L. Marrs of Amarillo; two daughters, Diana Pepper of Gruver and Judy Marie Chapman of Lawton, Okla.; two brothers, Creighton Collier of Lawrence, Kan. and Jack Collier of Lindale; nine grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren. Christine Anderson Christine Anderson, 71, of Amarillo, died Thursday, Aug. 5, 1999. Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday in Llano Cemetery with the Rev. Howard Romaine, pastor of New Zion Baptist Church in Borger, officiating. Arrangements are by Warford-Walker Mortuary, 509 N. Hughes. Mrs. Anderson was born in Deberry and moved to Amarillo from Fort Worth in 1959. She was a domestic worker. Survivors include her husband, Donale; a brother, Richard Spearman of San Bernardino, Calif.; and a sister of Fort Worth. The family will be at 109 N. Washington Street. Elsewhere Lloyd Dale Reece LUBBOCK - Lloyd Dale Reece, 50, died Friday, August 13, 1999. Services will be at 10 a.m. today in Redbud Baptist Church with the Rev. Joe Ainsworth officiating. Burial will be in Resthaven Memorial Park by Chapel of Angels Funeral Home. Mr. Reece was born in Plainview and graduated from Plainview High School in 1967. He graduated from Texas Tech in 1976 and worked for Southern Cotton Oil for 23 years. He served with the Marines for 2 years and was a member of the South Lawn Baptist Church. Survivors include his wife, Teresa Payne Reece; a son, Nolan Reece of Lubbock; his mother, Ollie Reece of Amarillo; five sisters, Marsha Goodyear of Silver City, N.M., Janice Blandford of Amarillo, Lana Essman of Cypress, Karen Nelson of Amarillo, and Kristi Ray of Spring; and three brothers, Larry Reece, Doyle Reece and Ricky Reece, all of Amarillo. The family suggests memorials be to the American Cancer Society; or a favorite charity.
