Memorial services will be at 3 p.m. Sunday in St. Andrew's Episcopal Church with the Rev. William D. Nix Jr. officiating. Cremation was at Memory Gardens Crematory. Arrangements are by Blackburn-Shaw Funeral Directors, 315 E. Fifth Ave. Miss Crownover graduated from Amarillo High School in 1940 and earned an associate's degree from Amarillo College in 1942. She graduated from Colorado College at Colorado Springs, Colo., with honors and a membership in Phi Beta Kappa. She began teaching English and speech at AC in 1947 and was named first dean of women there in 1952. In 1961, she was named first dean of students. She also served as a member of the original board of the Amarillo Art Center. She served as an assistant to AC president A.B. Martin and in 1972 was promoted to director of Fine Arts Activities and assistant to the president for special projects. Miss Crownover also served on the board of Amarillo Day Nurseries. She returned to the classroom, teaching psychology, retiring in 1987. After retirement, she served on the advisory council for the Creative Mind Lecture Series and remained active in St. Andrew's Episcopal Church. Survivors include two cousins, Jim Carlson of Foley, Ala., and Jill Maynard of Brooksfield, Fla. The family requests memorials be to The Gale Crownover College Scholarship Fund at Amarillo College. The body will not be available for viewing. Margaret Short Ansley Margaret Short Ansley, 90, of Amarillo, died Thursday, Jan. 14, 1999. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. today in The Chapel of Polk Street United Methodist Church with Dr. Jim Garrett of Polk Street United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will be in Llano Cemetery by Blackburn-Shaw Funeral Directors, 315 E. Fifth Ave. Mrs. Ansley was born in Decatur and moved to Amarillo in 1919. She graduated from Amarillo High School and attended Texas Tech University. She had been a member of Polk Street United Methodist Church for 70 years and was active in the Women's Missionary Society. She also was a member of the Texas Aggie Mothers Club, PTA, the Federated Women's Club, Modern Study Club and served as secretary-treasurer of West Texas Judges and Commissioners Association. She married Thaddeus "Thad" Ansley in 1934 in Amarillo. Survivors include her husband; a daughter, Anne Reid of Amarillo; a son, Charles H. Ansley of Plano; five grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. The family requests memorials be to Polk Street United Methodist Church, 1401 S. Dan Thomas Logan Dan Thomas Logan, 54, of Grand Prairie, died Wednesday, Jan. 13, 1999. Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday in Memorial Park Funeral Home, 6969 E. Interstate 40. Burial will be in Llano Cemetery. Arrangements are by Moore Funeral Home, Bowen Road Chapel, in Arlington. Mr. Logan was born in Altus, Okla. For 13 years, he was employed by Initial DSI Transports. Survivors include his wife, Mary; two daughters, Leann Utter and Lisa Reeves; three stepdaughters, Mary Adams, Angie Davis and Fina Martinez; his mother, Annie Earheart Miles; a brother, Robert Miles; a sister, Leslie Sims; and 13 grandchildren. Visitation will be from 1 until 3 p.m. Sunday at Memorial Park Funeral Home. Wilma Lee Deen Wilma Lee Deen, 89, of Amarillo, died Friday, Jan. 8, 1999. Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday in N.S. Griggs & Sons Funeral Directors, Pioneer Chapel, 2615 Paramount Blvd., with the Rev. Dean Wynn, chaplain of Craig Methodist Retirement Community, officiating. Burial will be at 3 p.m. Tuesday in Floydada Cemetery in Floydada. Miss Deen was born in Floydada. In 1985, she moved to Amarillo from Albuquerque, N.M., where she taught English and typing from 1937 until 1971. She received her master's degree in 1952. She was a Methodist. Miss Deen was a member of Alpha Delta Kappa, an honorary teachers' sorority. A painter and poet, she won first place in 1997 for her poetry entry, "Art is Ageless," in statewide competition sponsored by Texas Association of Homes and Services for the Aging. She served as coordinator of the Scribbles writing class at the J. Paul and Polly Craig Retirement Center. Survivors include two cousins, Maxine Booth of Amarillo and Betty Jane Hubin of Hutchinson, Minn.; a niece, Patricia Walton of Tres Ritas, N.M.; a nephew, Deen Booth of Midland; a great-niece; and three great-nephews. Evelyn Gibson Ripley McAdoo Evelyn Gibson Ripley McAdoo, 92, of Vernon, British Columbia, and a former Amarillo resident, died Tuesday, Jan. 12, 1999. Services will be at 1 p.m. Monday in Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, Ivy Chapel, 2820 Virginia Circle, with Dr. Jim Garrett, senior minister of Polk Street United Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Llano Cemetery. Mrs. McAdoo was born in Waco and graduated from Baylor University where she taught music classes while attending school. She taught school in Lavega and worked at First Federal Savings and Loan. A longtime resident of Amarillo, Mrs. McAdoo was a member of the American Association of University Women, Gonna Craft Club and Susanna Wesley Sunday School Class at Polk Street United Methodist Church. Mrs. McAdoo moved to Canada where she lived in Calgary for five years and in Vernon for two years. She played piano for the Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in Alberta, Canada. She married Emmett A. McAdoo in 1935 at Waco. He died in 1988. Survivors include two daughters, Marian Dressler of Vernon and Martha Stanfield of Amarillo; a sister, Irene Crawford of Amarillo; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. Polk, Amarillo, TX 79101. Oklahoma Orris L. Gross OWASSO, Okla. - Orris L. "Bud" Gross, 65, died Tuesday, Jan. 12, 1999. Memorial services were Friday in Mowery Funeral Service Chapel with Ed Alsup, chaplain, officiating. Mr. Gross was born in Carlsbad, N.M., and raised in Texas where he graduated from Canadian High School in 1952. During high school, he served as senior class president and was in the National Honor Society and Lettermen's Club. He received his bachelor's degree in accounting from Texas Tech University in 1956. In 1958, Mr. Gross became a licensed certified public accountant and worked with Joe W. Robert, CPA in Lubbock, Texas. He then had his own firm from 1964 until 1977 when he moved to Saudi Arabia to work in various hospitals. After 10 years as controller/CPA for Starlight Village in Center Point, Texas, he retired in 1996. He moved to Owasso in October. Mr. Gross was a member of Texas Association of Hospital Financial Administration, Texas Society of Certified Public Accountants, San Antonio Chapter Texas Society of Certified Public Accountants, American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the Texas Tech Alumni Association. He married Sandra Johnston of Canadian in 1955. Survivors include two sons, Blake Gross of Owasso and Brian Gross of Sand Springs; his mother, Mary Conatser of Tulsa; and three grandchildren. Alpha M. Arnold Evans GUYMON, Okla. - Alpha M. Arnold Evans, 88, died Thursday, Jan. 14, 1999. Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday in Henson-Novak Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Jim Fox and the Rev. Billy Martin, minister of Assembly of God, officiating. Burial will be in Elmhurst Cemetery. Mrs. Evans was born and raised near Hardesty and attended Meadowview School. After her first marriage, she farmed and ran cattle in Hardesty then later moved to Guymon. She was a member of the Assembly of God Church in Guymon. She married Richard Evans in 1987. Her first marriage was to James Arnold in 1929 at Guymon. He died in 1982. She also was preceded in death by a daughter, Duronda, and a son, Butch. Survivors include her husband; a daughter, Anna Maye Sowa of Sunnyside, Wash.; two sons, Jim Arnold Jr., of Littleton, Colo., and Danny Manning of Laverne; two sisters, Goldie Stump of Guymon and Vera Paries of Delta, Colo.; a brother, Dean Randles of Hardesty; nine grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. today at the funeral home. An Alpha Evans Memorial has been established for the Ronald McDonald House in Amarillo. Memorials may be accepted at Henson-Novak Funeral Home, Box 1306, Guymon, OK 73942. Elsewhere Ruby May Wilson AMHERST - Ruby May Wilson, 88, formerly of Bovina, died Thursday, Jan. 14, 1999. Services will be at 10 a.m. today in Hammons Funeral Chapel in Amherst with the Rev. Willis Blair, retired Baptist minister of Sudan, officiating. Graveside services will follow at 2 p.m. in the Bovina Cemetery in Bovina. Mrs. Wilson was born in Nash, Okla. After her marriage, she moved to Bovina where she and her husband farmed. She was a homemaker, charter member of First United Methodist Church in Bovina and member of the Dorcas Circle of the church. She married Frank Wilson in 1928 at Nash. He died in 1966. Survivors include two daughters, Delores Carter of Amherst and Carolyn Foster of DeKalb; a sister, Doris Wilson of Bovina; seven grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. Area Helene Klahn DALHART - Helene Klahn, 78, died Friday, Jan. 15, 1999. Wake will be at 7 p.m. Sunday in St. Anthony's Catholic Church. Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Monday in St. Anthony's Catholic Church by the Rev. Dale Guidry, pastor. Arrangements are by Hass Funeral Home. Mrs. Klahn was born in Dolores, Colo., and raised near Dolores. She graduated from Dolores High School in 1938 and attended Mercy Hospital Nursing School at Durango and Denver, Colo., graduating as a registered nurse in 1941. In 1942, she married Austin Klahn at Durango. They moved to Fort Worth and in 1946 to the Texas Panhandle where she worked as a nurse for Loretta Hospital. They moved to the Pacific Northwest in 1953, and she continued her nursing career, specializing in surgery and obstetrics at Omak, Wash. They returned to Dalhart in 1973. She was a member of the Mothers Club, the Elkettes, Extension Club and St. Anthony's Catholic Church. Survivors include her husband; three daughters, Marie Tufts of Vancouver, Wash., Charlotte Dazell of Bellevue, Wash., and Patricia Oberg of Birmingham, Mich.; a son, Austin F. Klahn II of Schaumburg, Ill.; a sister, Mrs. Alan Lee of Dolores; a brother, Joe Simmons of Carmichael, Calif.; and four grandchildren. The family requests memorials be to St. Anthony's Catholic School. Andrew Jackson Terrell Jr. QUANAH - Andrew Jackson Terrell Jr., 78, died Friday, Jan. 15, 1999. Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday in the Church of Christ with David Terrell, Jack Diltz and Jack Westbrook officiating. Burial will be in Quanah Memorial Park by Price-Jackson Funeral Home. Mr. Terrell was born in Quanah where he was a lifetime resident. He graduated from Quanah High School. He was a veteran of World War II and a retired master mechanic for Georgia Pacific, Gypsum Division. He was a Church of Christ member. He married Betty Jo Farmer in 1947 at Houston. Survivors include his wife; a son, David Terrell of Edmond, Okla.; two sisters, Opal East of Quanah and Evah Jo Diltz of Altus, Okla.; and three grandchildren. The family requests memorials be to Westview Boys Home at Hollis, Okla., or the Church of Christ. Frank Ervin Jones PADUCAH - Frank Ervin Jones, 71, died Tuesday, Jan. 12, 1999. Services will be at 2 p.m. today in Antioch Baptist Church with the Rev. Roger Weeks, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in the Garden of Memories by Seigler Funeral Home of Paducah. Mr. Jones was born in Palestine and moved to Paducah in 1984. He worked as a maintenance worker for the Paducah Housing Authority until retiring. Survivors include a daughter, Laticia of Paducah; and a sister, Willie Mae Jones of Odessa. Lee Dent HALE CENTER - Lee Dent, 78, died Friday, Jan. 15, 1999. Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday in First Baptist Church in Hale Center with Gene Meacham, pastor, and Silas Short, minister of the Church of Christ in O'Donnell, officiating. Burial will be in Hale Center Cemetery by Freeman-Abell Funeral Home. Born and raised in Hale Center, Mr. Dent graduated from Hale Center High School. He served in the Army with the 832nd Signal Corps, Team 6. Since 1956, Mr. Dent was the chamber of commerce manager. He was the fire chief for the Hale Center Fire Department for 43 years and the executive director for the Hale Center Housing Authority since 1968. Since 1971, he taught defensive driving. He was involved in youth work through his various jobs. Mr. Dent was a member of First Baptist Church, Lions Club and American Legion Post No. 203 where he was legion commander. For 25 years, he served on the Salvation Army Board. He married Juanita Carmickle in 1946 at Hale Center. Survivors include his wife; a son, Hardy Dent of Lubbock; and a sister, Jean Ballinger of Plainview.
