Miller Virgil E. Miller, 76, of Amarillo, died Saturday, April 17, 1999. Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday in Memorial Park Funeral Home Chapel of Memories, 6969 E. Interstate 40, with the Rev. Allen Norris officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Mr. Miller was born in Keyes, Okla., and moved to Amarillo in 1969. He retired as production foreman for Coastal Corp. in 1983. He served with the Navy during World War II and was a member of the Baptist Church in Keyes. He married Opal Ballard in 1949 in Clayton, N.M. Survivors include his wife; a son, Troy Miller of San Marcos; two daughters, Dawn Williams of Liberal, Kan., and Tammy Holman of Amarillo; two sisters, Naomi Hiner of Keyes and Florence Ross of Paonia, Colo.; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. The family suggests memorials be to a favorite charity. Eugene C. Ramirez Eugene C. Ramirez, 67, of Amarillo, died Saturday, April 17, 1999. Vigil services will be at 7 p.m. MST today in St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Logan, N.M. Services will be at 2 p.m. MST Tuesday in St. Anthony's Catholic Church, in Logan, with the Revs. John Daniel, pastor, officiating, and Ken Keller, associate pastor of St. Mary's Catholic Church, assisting. Burial will be in Logan Cemetery by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2820 Virginia Circle. Mr. Ramirez was born in Logan, N.M., and moved to Amarillo in 1973. Prior to his retirement, he was a self-employed general contractor with Ramirez Brothers. He served with the Army, was a member of the American Legion, the VFW and of St. Mary's Catholic Church. He was preceded in death by a son, Jimmy Ramirez. He married Louise Garcia in 1952 in Tucumcari, N.M. Survivors include his wife; a son, Steve Rael of Amarillo; three brothers, Magine Ramirez of El Paso, Charlie Ramirez of Albuquerque, N.M., and Candido Ramirez of Clovis, N.M.; four sisters, Amelia Cordova, Della Cordova and Tomisita Cordova, all of Logan, and Betty Kangas of Clovis; and a grandchild. James Lonnie Malone James Lonnie Malone, 79, of Amarillo, died Saturday, April 17, 1999. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday in Second Baptist Church with the Rev. Charles Jones, pastor, officiating. Graveside services will be at 3 p.m. on Tuesday in Erick Cemetery, Erick, Okla., with arrangements by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2820 Virginia Circle. Mr. Malone was born in Cunningham and moved to Amarillo in 1946. He worked in the motor pool at the Amarillo Air Force Base and for the past 10 years, and in the maintenance department at the U.S. Postal Service. He served in the Army during World War II, and was a member of Second Baptist Church, where he was a deacon and a member of Adult One Sunday school class. His first wife, Ruthine Zeck Malone, died in 1983. Survivors include his wife, Mary, of Amarillo; a daughter, Ruthie Way of Springfield, Mo.; three stepchildren; a brother, George Malone of Mena, Ariz.; two sisters, Nina Rowland and Louise Mann, both of Amarillo; two grandchildren; and six step-grandchildren. The family suggests memorials be to the Second Baptist Church, 419 North Buchanan, Amarillo, TX 79107. Burdette Olver Brown Burdette Olver "Bo" Brown, 73, of Amarillo, died Sunday, April 18, 1999. Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Llano Cemetery with Bonnie Dunsworth, pastor of the Hunt Memorial-Middlewell United Methodist Church, officiating. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2820 Virginia Circle. Mr. Brown was born in Meadow, S.D., and had lived in the Panhandle since 1946. He graduated from Canyon High School, worked with McCartt's and Furr's Food stores, and was a rancher and restaurateur. He served with the Army during World War II and was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, the Rock Island Masonic Lodge No. 869, and Channing Methodist Church. He married Marie Marcotte in 1973 in Channing. Survivors include his wife; two sons, Alfred Brown and Claud Brown, both of Amarillo; two daughters, Debbie Bernson of Amarillo and Jewel Downing of Lubbock; a stepson, Lloyd Hall of Atascadero, Calif.; a stepdaughter, Sheila McMichael of Lompoc, Calif.; a grandchild; a great-grandchild; and three step-grandchildren. The family suggests memorials be to Baptist St. Anthony's Hospice and Life Enrichment Center, P.O. Box 950, Amarillo, TX 79176-0001. Oklahoma Dr. Jerald E. Swanson GUYMON, Okla. - Dr. Jerald E. Swanson, 54, died Friday, April 16, 1999. Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday in Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church with the Rev. Mark Wescoatt, officiating. Burial will be in Elmhurst Cemetery by Henson-Novak Funeral Directors. Dr. Swanson was born in Dalton, Neb., graduated from high school in Sidney, Neb., and received a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from Colorado State University in 1969. In 1970, he moved to Arlington, Neb., where he was associated with Drs. Cady and Otto, and served as president of both the Arlington School Board and the voter's assembly at Saint Paul's Lutheran Church. For 13 years, he was associated with Foxley Cattle Co. of Omaha, Neb. In 1985, he moved to Guymon, where he was staff veterinarian for Hitch Enterprises Inc. He was a member of the Academy of Veterinary Consultants, where he served on the board of directors, and in 1993 was named Consultant of the Year. He served on the Texas County Fair Board and was chairman of the Fall Cattle Festival. He was a member of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church. He married Pamela Anne Hammond in 1964 in Kimball, Neb. Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Tuesday Neary of Arlington; two sons, Lance Swanson of Guymon and Trent Swanson of Stillwater, Okla.; his mother, Irene Trenary of Sidney; a brother, Jim Swanson of Lincoln, Neb.; and four grandchildren. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until 9 p.m. today at the funeral home. A Dr. Jerry Swanson Memorial has been established for both the Texas County YMCA and for Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church. Services will be at 2 p.m. today in First Baptist Church with the Rev. Roger Weeks officiating. Burial will be in Garden of Memories Cemetery by Seigler Funeral Home. Mrs. Ervin was born in Paducah and had been a lifelong resident. She was a housekeeper, a cook and a member of Antioch Baptist Church. Survivors include three sons, Lonnie Hurd, Don Hurd and James McGruder, all of Paducah; 17 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren. Jack Ray Walker VEGA - Jack Ray Walker, 51, died Saturday, April 17, 1999. Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday in Vega United Methodist Church with the Rev. Steve Campbell, pastor of Agape United Methodist Church, officiating. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2820 Virginia Circle. Mr. Walker was born in Littlefield and moved to Vega in 1971. He was owner of Town and Country Insurance Agency in Vega, Dimmitt and Farwell. He was past president of Vega Kiwanis Club, past master of Vega Masonic Lodge No. 899, and a member of the Khiva Shrine and Directors Staff. He was a former Texas Department of Public Safety Trooper, Oldham County Deputy Sheriff and a member of the United Peace Officer's Association. He was also involved with the Methodist Youth Fellowship, Kid's, Incorporated, and served as city council alderman from 1989 until 1993. He married Jackie Gast in 1967 in Clovis, N.M. Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Jana Vogler of Vega and Jodi Walker of Canyon; three brothers, Jim Walker of Pilot Point, Randy Walker of Dennison and Ronnie Walker of Mesquite; his parents, E.A. and Wanda Walker of Dennison; and two grandchildren. The family suggests memorials be to the Khiva Memorial Fund, or to the Oldham County Farm and Ranch Heritage Museum. Edwin Eugene Sims HAPPY - Edwin Eugene Sims, 75, died Saturday, April 17, 1999. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Happy Cemetery with Rick Bloodworth of Church of Christ in Happy, officiating. Arrangements are by Brooks Funeral Directors of Happy. Mr. Sims was born in Scurry County and moved to Happy in 1927, where he was a 1940 graduate of Happy High School. He attended Draughon's Business College in Amarillo and served with the Army Air Corps during World War II. He also served on the Happy Independent School Board, the Tule Lake Conservation Board, the ASC Community Committee and the 82nd Fighter Group Association. He was a 32nd Degree Mason, a past master of the Happy Lodge No. 1008, AF&AM Deputy Grand Master of the Grand Lodge of Texas, and a member of the Happy Eastern Star. He was a retired farmer and a member of First Presbyterian Church. He married Ora Mary Gurley in 1946 in Amarillo. Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Sara Tirey of Happy and Mary Ann Wilbourn of Abbott; a brother, Weldon Sims of Dumas; five grandchildren; and a great-grandchild. Bocox PERRYTON - Calvin M. "Pops" Bocox, 69, died Sunday, April 18, 1999. Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Victory Family Church with the Rev. Marlon Sparks, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Ochiltree Cemetery by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Home in Perryton. Mr. Bocox was born in Orlando, Okla., and moved to the area 41 years ago from Perry, Okla. He had worked in the oil service industry for 25 years. He was preceded in death by a son, Calvin Earl Bocox, in 1973. He married Norma Sue Browne in 1972 in Perryton. Survivors include his wife; four daughters, Debbie Bilbrey of North Carolina, Theresa Browne of Bell, Fla., Roberta Waggoner of Clovis, N.M., and Nancy Lamm of Perryton; a son, John Browne of Perryton; two brothers, Roger Bocox of Perryton and Les Bocox of Orlando; a sister, Earlene Keith of Orlando; 14 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Rosalia Villanueva MORTON - Rosalia Villanueva, 74, died Saturday, April 17, 1999. Rosary was recited Sunday evening in Ellis Funeral Home Chapel in Morton. Graveside services are scheduled for Wednesday in Utimo Fefugio, Ojinaga, Chihuahua, Mexico. Mrs. Villanueva was born in Ojinaga, Chihuahua. She was a homemaker and a member of St. Ann's Catholic Church in Morton. She was preceded in death by a son, Victor Manuel Aranda, in 1998. Survivors include her husband, Abraham; seven sons, Luis Hector Aranda of Pecos, Jose Aranda of Marfa, Fernando Aranda of Morton, Marcelo Aranda of Ojinaga, Chihuahua, and Jesus Armando Aranda, Josie Javier and Aaron Aranda, all of Denver; two daughters, Maria de la Luz Rios and Elva Hilda Gomez, both of Morton; 19 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Ett W. Evans MULESHOE - Ett W. Evans, 82, died Sunday, April 18, 1999. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Muleshoe Memorial Park Cemetery with the Rev. Brad Reeves of First United Methodist Church officiating. Arrangements are by Ellis Funeral Home. Mr. Evans was born in Bakersfield, Calif., and moved to Muleshoe in 1947. He was an oil and gas wholesale jobber for Fina in Muleshoe and a member of First Baptist Church. He married Ruby Kemp in 1983 in Seminole. Survivors include his wife; a son, Archie Ray Evans of Pasadena; two daughters, Elaine McFarland of Ventura, Calif., and Claudette Vest of Seminole; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
