Lawrence Mein Jr. PAMPA - H. Lawrence Mein Jr., 62, died Monday, Aug. 16, 1999. Services will be at 2 p.m. today in Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors Colonial Chapel with the Rev. Todd Dyess, pastor of First United Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Memory Gardens Cemetery. Mr. Mein was born in Meade, Kan., and moved to Pampa in 1979. He graduated from Meade High School and began working for Rock Island Railroad in 1951. He started working for Halliburton Services in 1978 and in 1986 worked for Phillips Petroleum Co., retiring in 1987. He married Beverly Rogers in 1979. Survivors include his wife; five sons, Larry Mein and Gerald Mein, both of Herington, Kan., Allen Mein of Ohio, John Griffin of Pampa, and David Rogers Jr. of Dallas; a daughter, Lorie Robledo of Brownwood; his mother, Iva Mein of Dodge City, Kan.; a sister, Delila Mein of Meade; two brothers, Edward Mein of Montrose, Colo., and William Mein of Liberal, Kan.; and 15 grandchildren. The family requests memorials be to Panhandle Transit of Pampa or the University Medical Center of Lubbock, Organ Transplant Department. They will be at 1000 S. Wilcox in Pampa. Teresa Robles WHEELER - Teresa Robles, 39, died Monday, Aug. 16, 1999. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday in the Wheeler First Baptist Church with the Rev. Rodney Weatherly of Wheeler and the Rev. Sergio Vaquera of Canan Christian Church in Perryton officiating. Burial will be in Wheeler Cemetery by Wright Funeral Home of Wheeler. Mrs. Robles was born in Altus, Okla., and had lived in Wheeler most of her life. She graduated from Wheeler High School in 1979. She was a home health care provider and a cook. Survivors include two sons, Rafeal Robles and Adam Robles, both of Wheeler; a daughter, Amanda Retana of Wheeler; her mother, Anita Robles of Wheeler; a sister, Christine Earl of Wheeler; and a brother, Ricky Robles of Wheeler. Elaine Oden BORGER - Elaine Oden, 81, died Tuesday, Aug. 17, 1999, in Wylie. Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Friday in Westlawn Memorial Park with Mike Smith, pastor of Fellowship Baptist Church officiating. Burial will be in The Field of Honor at Westlawn Memorial Park by Minton/Chatwell Funeral Directors. Mrs. Oden was born in Kirkland and had lived in Borger for 47 years before moving to Wylie in 1994. She was an artist and retired from telephone sales at the Sears catalog office. She was a member of Fellowship Baptist Church, where she taught Sunday school. She married Milburn H. Oden in 1939 at Petersburg. He died in 1991. Survivors include a son, Spencer H. Oden of Georgetown; a daughter, JoCarol Laramore of Princeton; two brothers, Loel D. Box of Pampa and Kenneth D. Box of Pampa; a sister, Marie Oden of Borger; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Lester Hodges CANADIAN - Lester Hodges, 81, died Wednesday, Aug. 18, 1999. Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday in First United Methodist Church with Dr. Lewis Holland, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Edith Ford Memorial Cemetery by Stickley-Hill Funeral Directors. Mr. Hodges was born in Wheeler County and moved to Canadian in 1938 from Shamrock. He was employed by the city of Canadian for 41 years and retired in 1985 as Assistant City Manager. He was on the Canadian Volunteer Fire Department for 24 years and was Fireman of the Year in 1976. He served for several years as Fire Marshall and was a member of First United Methodist Church. His daughter, Jerry Lee Hodges, died in 1967. He married Ruth Wilder in 1938 at Arnett. Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Maxine Nolan, and Jackie McPherson of Canadian; a brother, Arthur Hodges of Dumas; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Lorenzo Contreraz HEREFORD - Lorenzo Contreraz, 85, died Wednesday, Aug. 18, 1999. Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday in the Good News Church with the Rev. Tony De Aquino, pastor of Iglesia Del Nazareno, officiating. Burial will be in West Park Cemetery by Rix Funeral Directors. Mr. Contreraz was born in Bastrop and was a farm laborer. His son, Lorenzo Contreraz, died in 1985. He married Rosa Garza in 1941 at Temple. Survivors include his wife; five sons, Larry Contreraz, Johnny Contreraz, Tony Contreraz, and Freddy Contreraz, all of Hereford and Joe Contreraz of Lubbock; six daughters, Elvira Mendoza, Irene Camargo, Adela Narranjo, Angie Garza and Linda Contreraz, all of Hereford and Elida Trevino of Michigan; two brothers, Felipe Contreraz of Lubbock and Miguel Contreraz of McAllen; a sister, Severa Contreraz of Progresso; 42 grandchildren; 68 great-grandchildren; and a great-greatgrandchild. Chasity Marie Bedell SPEARMAN - Chasity Marie Bedell, infant daughter of Colby Bedell and Jenny Longoria, died Monday, Aug. 16, 1999. Chasity was born in Perryton. Amarillo Ed A. Ivey Ed A. Ivey, 62, of Amarillo, died Tuesday, Aug. 17, 1999. Chapel, 1505 Martin Rd. Mr. Ivey was born in Longmont, Colo., and moved to Amarillo in 1965 from Dumas. Mr. Ivey worked as a welder and truck driver before his retirement. He was a member of Harley Davidson Motorcycle Club, The Model Airplane Club and Family Life Fellowship Church. He married Glenda Barrett in 1957 at Dumas. Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Mitzi Black of Amarillo; a son, Gary Ivey of Amarillo; his mother and stepfather, Esther and James Noreen of Lafayette, Colo.; three sisters, Penny McClain of Greeley, Colo., and Vicky Holland and Kathy Holland, both of Denver; three brothers, Fritz Coyle and David Coyle, both of Greeley and Cary Noreen of Red Cloud, Neb.; and four grandchildren. The family suggests memorials be to Baptist St. Anthony's Hospice and Life Enrichment Center. Emma Dell Kirby Emma Dell Kirby, 73, of Amarillo, died Tuesday, Aug. 17, 1999. Graveside services will be at 3 p.m. today in Memorial Park Cemetery with Dr. Larry Payne officiating. Arrangements will be by Memorial Park Funeral Home, 6969 E. Interstate 40. Mrs. Kirby was born in La Feria and graduated from La Joya High School in Star County. She graduated from Texas A&I in Kingsville and did graduate work at both Texas A&I and the University of Arizona in Tucson. She retired as a history teacher in Texas and moved to Amarillo in 1995 from Largo, Fla. She was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma, Alpha Chi, the Daughters of the American Confederacy and was Outstanding Volunteer of the Year for the Houston USO. She married Elmer R. Kirby in 1945 at Charleston, S.C. They were married for more than 40 years. Survivors include a son, John Kirby of Amarillo; a daughter, Colleen Giere of Falls Church, Va.; and six grandchildren. The family suggests memorials be to Alzheimer's Association, Panhandle Chapter. New Mexico Eula Gunnels CLOVIS, N.M. - Eula Gunnels, 87, died Monday, Aug. 16, 1999. Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Friday in Lawn Haven Memorial Gardens with the Rev. Robert Leatherwood officiating. Arrangements are by Steed-Todd Funeral Home. Mrs. Gunnels was born in Magazine, Ark., and had lived in Clovis since 1930. She was a homemaker. Her husband, George, died in 1982. Survivors include a sister, Effie Peterson of Clovis. Juan Craine CLAYTON, N.M. - Juan Craine, 93, died Tuesday, Aug. 17, 1999. Rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. today by Deacon Louis Montoya in St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church. Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday in St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church with the Rev. George Silver, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Clayton Memorial Cemetery by Hass Funeral Directors. Mr. Craine was born in Moses, N.M., attended school in Atencio and worked as a farmer and rancher all of his life. He served with the Army during World War II and was a member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church. He married Qurinia Gutierrez in 1947 at Clayton. Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Gloria Craine and Cecilia Garcia, both of Clayton; four sons, Jose C. Craine of Sante Fe, N.M., Jose C. Craine of Barstow, Calif., and Ernesto D. Craine and Sam Craine, both of Clayton; 10 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Oklahoma Sophia Spragins GUYMON, Okla. - Sophia Spragins, 86, died Monday, Aug. 16, 1999. Memorial services will be at 10 a.m. today in Grace Southern Baptist Church with the Rev. Kelvin Moseley, a grandson and pastor of First Baptist Church of Seminole, and the Rev. Lynn R. Matthews, a son-in-law and Baptist minister of Dallas, Texas, and the Rev. Aaron Summers, pastor, officiating. Arrangements are by Bunch-Roberts Funeral Home. Mrs. Spragins was born in Lamar, Colo., and was raised in the Oklahoma Panhandle. She attended schools in Camrick and Hardesty. She graduated from Hardesty High School in 1932, where she had served as a captain of the Hardesty girls' basketball team. She taught children in Baptist churches for more than 50 years and also was a leader in Southern Baptist Missions. She married Truman Spragins in 1933. She was preceded in death by a son, Daryl Lee Spragins. Survivors include her husband; a son, Gary Spragins of Payson, Ariz.; a daughter, Trudy Logsdon-Matthews of Dallas, Texas; two sisters, Madalyn Richards of Guymon and Ava Rose High of Derby, Kan.; two brothers, Shorty Johnson of Guymon and Paul Johnson of Hawthorne, Calif.; 10 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.
