Miranda was born in Houston and had lived in Amarillo most of her life. Virginia Lee Boone Virginia Lee Boone, 85, a former Amarillo resident, died Sunday, March 14, 1999, at Fredricksburg. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Mrs. Boone was born in Checotah, Okla. She was a homemaker and a retired Realtor. She was a member and an elder of First Presbyterian Church of El Paso, a past president of El Paso Young Matron's Club, past president of the Dudley School Parent-Teacher Association, and a past president of the Women of the First Presbyterian Church. She was an artist. She married Marion Alfred Boone in 1931 in Amarillo. He died in 1993. Survivors include two sons, Tom S. Boone of Fredricksburg and Robert M. Boone of Midland; a brother, George Lynch of Amarillo; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Maynard Adams Babb Maynard Adams Babb, 94, of Albuquerque, N.M., a former Amarillo resident, died Saturday, March 6, 1999, at Albuquerque. Services will be at 11 a.m. today in the La Vida Llena Retirement Home Chapel at Albuquerque. Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in N.S. Griggs & Sons Funeral Directors, 2615 Paramount Blvd., in Amarillo, with the Rev. Royce Womack, retired Methodist minister, officiating. His ashes will be interred at Llano Cemetery in Amarillo. Mr. Babb was born in Isleboro, Maine. He was a designer, and his designs included the development of the fluorescent lamp starter. He was recognized in Washington by the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers. He was a World War II veteran and was awarded the Army/Navy "E" for Excellence Award. He was active in the US Power Squadron. For several years, he sang in the Glee Club at Tanafly, N.J. He helped establish and was president of the Eatonton, N.J., Rotary International and was a lifetime Rotarian. Mr. Babb lived in Amarillo from 1978 to 1991. He was a member of San Jacinto United Methodist Church. He married Nancy Johnson in 1991. Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Elaine Chastain of Amarillo; two sons, David D. She was retired from Pinkney Packing Co., and was a member of the Baptist church. She married Dewey McKee in 1944 at Amarillo. He died in 1960. Georgia St. Arlington arrangements are by Arlington Funeral Home. Mrs. Harper was born in Davidson, Okla. She and her husband farmed in the Oklahoma and Muleshoe areas before moving to Amarillo in 1944. They owned Harper's Laundry prior to her employment at the original Cloth World store. After her retirement, Mrs. Harper continued sewing. She was a member of Paramount Terrace Christian Church in Amarillo. In 1992, she moved to Arlington. She was preceded in death by her husband, Alvin. Survivors include a daughter, Sharon Wells of Fort Worth; two sisters, Vennel McKee of Van Horne and Muriel Lewis of Muleshoe; a granddaughter; and a great-grandson. Campos, Jose-Luis Campos and Fco-Javier Campos, all of Amarillo; two daughters, Madela Luz Alamo and Ma-Elia Perez, both of Amarillo; 22 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren. Sherman Eastland officiating. Arrangements are by Memorial Park Funeral Home, 6969 E. Interstate 40. Mrs. ColeVan Dyke was born in Saint Jo and moved to Amarillo from Dallas in 1947. In 1982, she retired as a nurse from the Amarillo Police Department. She also was a nurse at Northwest Texas Hospital and Baptist St. Anthony's Health System - Baptist Campus. Mrs. Cole-Van Dyke was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church, Ladies Society Brotherhood of Locomotive, Firemen and Enginemen, Rebekah Lodge and 45 Upper Club Senior Citizens. She graduated from Amarillo College in 1966. She married George Sterlin Van Dyke in 1939 at Clovis, N.M. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1981 and by a son, David S. Van Dyke, also in 1981. Survivors include Marshall R. Van Dyke of Dallas; a daughter, Cheryl Clark of Amarillo; a brother, George W. Cole Jr. of Mineral Wells; five grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. Paul J. Koch Paul J. Koch, 82, of Amarillo, died Wednesday, March 17, 1999. Services will be at noon Saturday in Memorial Park Funeral Home, Chapel of Memories, 6969 E. Interstate 40 with the Rev. Scott E. Herbert officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery with military honors by Disabled American Veterans Chapter 26. Mr. Koch was born in Lipscomb and graduated from Darrouzett High School. He attended Texas Tech University. He was an Army veteran of World War II and moved to Amarillo in 1952. In 1982, Mr. Koch retired after 32 years in administration at Pantex. He was a lifelong member of Christ Lutheran Church and a member of Amarillo Moose Lodge and American Legion Hanson Post No. 54. He was preceded in death by his wife, Lydia Koch, in 1984. Survivors include a special friend, Irene Smith; a brother, Henry Koch of Darrouzett; and a sister, Lea Larkey of Albuquerque, N.M. Area Sue McFall PAMPA - Sue McFall, 89, a former Pampa resident of Victoria, died Wednesday, March 17, 1999, at Victoria. Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in Memory Gardens Cemetery at Pampa with the Rev. Jim Teeter, pastor of St. Paul United Methodist Church of Pampa, officiating. Arrangements are by Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors of Pampa. Mrs. McFall was born in Childress and moved to Pampa in 1928 from Hedley. She lived in Pampa until 1993, when she moved to Victoria. She worked for Montgomery Ward as a sales clerk for 10 years. She was a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church and the Order of Eastern Star. She married John McFall in 1932 at Pampa. He died in 1970. Survivors include a daughter, Sue Lynn Hatcher of Victoria; two sisters, Margaret Sheppard and Lee Holt of Navasota; a brother, R.O. McFarling Jr. of Bryan; and three grandsons. Bertha Dyer Moore PAMPA - Bertha "Auth B" Dyer Moore, 87, died Wednesday, March 17, 1999. Cremation was by Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors. Memorial services will be at a later date. Mrs. Moore was born in Valley Mills and moved to Gallup, N.M., in the early 1930s from Pampa. She returned to Pampa in 1994. While living in Gallup, she managed the gift shop at the El Rancho Hotel. She later owned and operated the Sweet Shop. She also worked for Sellards Jewelry Store and R & R Dress Shop for several years. She had managed the Sweetbriar Shop for 18 years before retiring in 1975. She was a charter member of the BPOE. She married Gordon Moore in 1933 at Sayre, Okla. Survivors include her husband. Bechthold, 86, died Thursday, March 18, 1999. Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday in Boxwell Brothers Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Steve Ulrey officiating. Burial will be in Ochiltree Cemetery. Mrs. Bechthold was born in Beaver County, Okla., and moved to Perryton in 1973 from Balko, Okla. She moved to Enid, Okla., in 1994. She was a homemaker and a member of the First United Methodist Church of Perryton. She attended Bethany Consolidated School west of Balko, Panhandle A&M College at Goodwell, Okla., and Northwestern State Teacher's College at Alva, Okla. She received her bachelor's degree at West Texas State Teacher's College at Canyon. She was a teacher, and her first teaching job was in a country school north of Texhoma. The next three years were in the Union Consolidated School at Gray, Okla., and the last seven years of her career were as a classroom teacher at Booker Independent School at Booker. Mrs. Bechthold taught children's Sunday school for 25 years, was a director of vacation church school for several years, a member of the official church board, was in the choir, was the pianist and an adult Sunday school teacher. She also was a private piano teacher. She was a charter member of Eta Alpha Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma, an honor society of women teachers. She married Henry Bechthold in 1939 at Booker. He died in 1993. Survivors include two brothers, Allen Mays of Enid, and Ivan Mays of Austin. Roy Henson Bevers HEDLEY - Roy Henson Bevers, 77, died Wednesday, March 17, 1999. Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in Memphis Funeral Home Chapel with Tom Posey officiating. Burial will be in Lakeview Cemetery in Lakeview. Mr. Bevers was an Army veteran of World War II. With the exception of the 29 years from 1960 until 1989 he lived in Phoenix, he lived in Hedley. Survivors include his wife, Sandy Bevers; four sons, Lonnie Bevers of Phoenix, John Walters Bevers and Teddy Bevers, both of Amarillo, and Tom Bevers of Reno, Nev.; three daughters, Mary Lou Crump of Canyon, Susan Neal of San Antonio and Debbie Crain of Channing; two stepdaughters, Betty Sue Campbell and Kathy Malone; four brothers, Leon Bevers of Edmond, Okla., Louis Bevers of Hedley, Joe Neal Bevers of Amarillo and Arthur Bevers; 15 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Loretta Jo Good SHAMROCK - Loretta Jo Good, 89, died Wednesday, March 17, 1999. Services will be at 2 p.m. today in Eleventh Street Baptist Church with the Rev. Glen Switzer of Shamrock and the Rev. Joe G. Jernigan, pastor of Calvary Christian Fellowship Church, officiating. Burial will be in Shamrock Cemetery by Wright Funeral Directors in Shamrock. Mrs. Good was born in Cleburne and had lived in Shamrock since 1964 where she had been employed by Shamrock Hospital and as a waitress. In Texola, she and her husband owned the Friendly Cafe for several years. She was a member of the Eleventh Street Baptist Church. She married Basil C. Good in 1941 at Sayre, Okla. He died in 1979. Survivors include two daughters, Alpha Lisle and Dottie Charlotte Shipman, both of Shamrock; a son, Carl Good of Orofino, Idaho; a sister, Fayola Nichols of Elk City, Okla.; 16 grandchildren; 38 great-grandchildren; and 11 great-greatgrandchildren. Jesus Jose Cadena HEREFORD - Jesus Jose Cadena, 75, died Wednesday, March 17, 1999. Rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. today in Rose Chapel of Gililland-Watson Funeral Home. Mr. Cardena was born in Rowena and was a Navy veteran of World War II. In 1965, he moved to Deaf Smith County from San Antonio. He was a farm laborer and was a member of La Iglesia de San Jose. He married Paula Castillo in 1947 at Lamesa. He was preceded in death by two sons, Adolfo Cadena in 1970 and Luis Cadena in 1974, and by a daughter, Maria Alice Cadena in 1954. Survivors include his wife; four sons, Frank Cadena of Minnesota, George Cadena and Robert Cadena, both of Hereford, and Freddy Cadena of Vista, Calif.; three daughters, Adelina Luna, Martha Fuentes and Gloria Cuellar, all of Hereford; two sisters, Maria Huizar of Poteet and Odela Guzman of San Antonio; 28 grandchildren; and 35 great-grandchildren. She moved to Matador 12 years ago from San Antonio. She was employed as manager of Allsup's Convenience Store. She married Eugene Saldana in 1978 at Dallas. He died March 17. Mr. Saldana was born in Luling and moved to Matador 12 years ago from San Antonio. He operated an auto body repair shop. He married Rose Saldana in 1978 at Dallas. She died March 17. Mr. Brand was born in Hillsboro and moved to Parmer County in 1927 from Childress. He moved to Friona in 1935 where he retired as carpenter and contractor. He was a member of First Baptist Church. He married Bessie Eva Smith in 1931 at Clovis, N.M. Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Eva Katherine Brand of Friona; two brothers, Jerry Brand of Stockton, Calif., and Bill Brand of Clovis; and three sisters, Elsie Smith of Bovina and Addie Jane Huber and Ruby Hendergart, both of Lodi, Calif. New Mexico Pedro Secundino Martinez TUCUMCARI, N.M. - Pedro Secundino Martinez, 92, died Wednesday, March 17, 1999. Rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. today in Dunn Funeral Home Chapel. Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated at 2 p.m. Saturday in St. Anne's Catholic Church with the Rev. John C. Daniel of the church as celebrant. Burial will be in Tucumcari Memorial Park Cemetery. Mr. Martinez was born in Newkirk and was a resident of Denver before moving to Tucumcari in 1978 after his retirement. During World War II, he was a corporal in the Army Air Corps. He was a member of St. Anne's Catholic Church. Survivors include two sisters, Celia Chavez of Tucumcari and Theresa Chacon of Santa Fe Springs, Calif.; and a brother, Eloy C. Martinez of Tucumcari. Viewing will be until 2 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Elsewhere Cliff Janak DENVER, Colo. - Cliff Janak, 88, a former Amarillo resident, died Saturday, Feb. 13, 1999. Services were in Colorado by Aspen Funeral Home of Golden. Mr. Janak was born in Weir, Texas. He graduated from Tahoka High School at Tahoka, Texas, where he played football, baseball and ran track. He received a scholarship to Amarillo College of Music under the direction of Emil F. and Lila Myers. As a first-place winner of a voice scholarship that was sponsored by the Texas Federation of Music Clubs, he studied at Sherwood School of Music in Chicago. He married Marella Myers in 1936. He studied music at Amarillo College. He had been the musical director of San Jacinto Methodist Church and West Amarillo Christian Church in Amarillo. He was a baritone soloist with the annual presentation of the "Messiah" in Amarillo. He also was the baritone for the Beacon Male Quartet for Blackburn-Shaw Funeral Home in Amarillo. Mr. Janak served on the board of directors of the Amarillo Symphony Orchestra for many years. He managed the family owned Myers Music Mart from 1955 until 1968. He and his wife moved to Denver where he became the purchasing agent for the family owned Denver Drumstick Restaurants. He retired in 1974. He was a life member of the Elks Club 1777 for 36 years. Survivors include his wife; a son, James Clifton Janak; a daughter, Joni Janak; two sisters, Mabel Johnson of Abilene, Texas, and Edna Southworth of Monahan, Texas; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Mr. Mirabal was born in Tucumcari, N.M., where he attended elementary school until he moved to Hill City. In 1981, he graduated from Hill City High School and then enlisted in the Army and served until 1984. He had lived in Fountain, Colo., Lubbock, Texas, and Dallas. In 1988, Mr. Mirabal returned to Hill City. He was employed as a carpenter by Morton Buildings and was a member of Hill City Baptist Church. He married Ann Marie McNeil in 1982 at Swatara. Survivors include his wife; three children, Jacob Mirabal, Kendra Mirabal and Hannah Mirabal, all of Hill City; his parents, Henry and Mary Mirabal of Amarillo; five brothers, Henry Mirabal of Lubbock, Eddie Mirabal and Richard Mirabal, both of Albuquerque, N.M., and Jimmy Mirabal and Jerry Mirabal both of Amarillo; and five sisters, Louisa Dolly, Carol Mirabal, Yolanda Apodaca and MaryEllen Mirabal, all of Amarillo, and Sylvia Valdaquez of Portales, N.M. The family will receive friends at 209 Ramada Trail in Amarillo. Deryl D. King MATADOR - Deryl D. King, 73, of Dallesport, Wash., died Monday, March 15, 1999. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. today in Roaring Springs Cemetery in Roaring Springs with the Rev. Rickey Lawrence, pastor of Roaring Springs Full Gospel Church, officiating. Arrangements are by Seigler Funeral Home of Matador. Mr. King was born in Carroll County, Ark., and was a former resident of Roaring Springs. He had lived in Dallesport for 40 years. He was employed as a pipeline construction supervisor and worked in Middle East countries for several years. Mr. King operated a wrecking yard near his home. He was a member of Carpenters and Jointers Union of America, the Grange and was assistant fire chief of the Dallesport Volunteer Fire Department. Survivors include a brother, Joe King of Austin; and two sisters, Linda Turcotte of Sacramento, Calif., and Bonnie Sue Boyd of Roseville, Calif.
