Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday in Wallace Funeral Home Chapel of Tulia with the Rev. James Willborn, pastor of the First United Methodist Church in Tulia, officiating. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery at Tulia. Arrangements are by Wallace Funeral Home of Tulia and Shinn Funeral Home in Arkansas. Mrs. Wilkins was born in Colorado City, Texas, and was raised in Loyola, Texas. She graduated in 1934 from Dimmitt High School at Dimmitt, Texas, and began her nursing training at Methodist Hospital at Lubbock, Texas. In 1937, she earned her registered nursing degree. She worked at High Plains Hospital in Lubbock until moving to Tulia to take a position at the Swisher County Hospital. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Tulia and later a member of the First United Methodist Church of Russellville. She was awarded a life membership in the Women's Society of Christian Service. She served on the commission of education and the building committee for the First United Methodist Church sanctuary in Tulia. She also was a member of the Sorosis Study Club. She married Clyde Wilkins in 1938. They farmed in Swisher County until 1982. He died in 1988. Survivors include two daughters, Donna Moss of Russellville and Penny Hudgeons of Midland, Texas; four sisters, Elizabeth Hollenbeck and Jo Ella Byerrum, both of Sacramento, Calif., Leona Witt of Seminole, Texas, and Lala Dannheim of San Antonio; a brother, Coleman Wright of Hereford, Texas; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. The family requests memorials be to First United Methodist Church at Russellville or the Tulia Cemetery Association in Tulia. Lee Nowlin PLAINVIEW - Lee Nowlin, 95, died Saturday, Jan. 16, 1999. Services will be at 2 p.m. today in the First United Methodist Church Sanctuary with Dr. Max Browning, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Plainview Memorial Park by Lemons Funeral Home. Mr. Nowlin was born in Rocky, Okla. He graduated from high school at Rocky and attended Clarendon College. He taught in public schools from 1925-1943 and also served as principal and superintendent. He lived in Kress from 1936 to 1943, where he taught and was superintendent. He was admitted to the Texas Bar Association in 1944 and moved to Plainview. He served as Hale County Attorney from 1945-1948 and was Hale County Judge from 1950-1961, when he went into private practice. Mr. Nowlin had been a Methodist church member since 1915 and was instrumental in building the sanctuary of First United Methodist Church. He served as a lay leader from 1953-1964 and was a district lay leader and a delegate to the Methodist General Conference and Jurisdictional Board Lay Activities. He was a life member of the advisory board of the Salvation Army, served as a trustee for McMurry University, was a board director of Methodist Hospital at Lubbock and the Lubbock Symphony. He also was a member of the Lions Club, Masonic Lodge and the Knights Templar. He married Mattie Ruth Dean in 1924 at Clarendon. She died in 1987. Survivors include a daughter, Elizabeth Nowlin Craver of Plainview; three grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Milas Cline DIMMITT - Milas "Dub" Cline, 92, died Monday, Jan. 18, 1999. Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday in Foskey-Lilley-McGill Funeral Home Ivey Chapel with the Rev. Rusty Dickerson, pastor of First United Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Castro Memorial Gardens. Mr. Cline was born in Pine Bluff, Ark., and moved to Plainview at an early age. He lived in Lockney for five years and moved to Castro County in 1957 where he farmed. He was a member of the Elks Club at Plainview and was a Methodist. He married Fay Wilkerson in 1970 at Dimmitt. She died in 1994. Survivors include three sons, John Cline and Milas Cline, both of Dimmitt, and Virgel Cline of Amarillo; two stepsons, Everett Wilkerson of Canyon and Coyce Wilkerson of Amarillo; a stepdaughter, Peggy Fulfer of Luckenbach; three grandchildren; and three greatgrandchildren. The family requests memorials be to Hospice Cares, 112 W. Jones, Dimmitt, Texas 79027. James Ripple DUMAS - James Ripple, 73, died Monday, Jan. 18, 1999. Memorial services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday in Morrison Funeral Directors Memorial Chapel with the Rev. H.L. Stevens, retired pastor of First Assembly of God Church, officiating. Mr. Ripple was born in Antlers, Okla., and had been a longtime Spur resident. He was a Navy veteran of World War II. In 1952, he moved to Dumas. Mr. Ripple retired as a postal clerk. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Dumas. He married Forestine Mecom in 1945 at Spur. Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Martha Thompson and Helen Murphey, both of Dumas; four brothers, Curtis Ripple of Bellingham, Wash., Morris Ripple of Wylie, Wayne Ripple of Lubbock and Gary Ripple of Phoenix; a grandson; and two great-grandchildren. The family will be at 222 Peach. They suggest memorials be to Memorial Hospice, 224 E. Second, Dumas, TX 79029. Harold Roberts STRATFORD - Harold Roberts, 91, died Monday, Jan. 18, 1999. Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. today in Stratford Cemetery with the Rev. Mark Metzger, pastor of First United Methodist Church, officiating. Arrangements are by Morrison Funeral Directors. Mr. Roberts was born in Stratford where he lived for most of his life. He also lived in Brownwood for 10 years. In 1929, he graduated from the first fouryear class at Texas Tech University. In 1972, Mr. Roberts retired as manager for Foxworth Galbraith Lumber Co. of Stratford. He was a member of First United Methodist Church. He married Marinell Keithley in 1936 at Canyon. She preceded him in death. Survivors include three daughters, Ann Kendricks of Graham, Beth Armes of Shallowater and Sue Stewart of Dallas; a sister, Kathryn Woodward of Phoenix; two grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Alice Ruby Cole BORGER - Alice Ruby Cole, 83, died Tuesday, Jan. 19, 1999. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in Memory Gardens in Pampa with the Rev. David Miller, elder of Abundant Life Fellowship in Borger, officiating. Arrangements are by Minton / Chatwell Funeral Directors of Borger. Mrs. Cole was born in Groom and lived for many years in Pampa. For the past five years, she was a Borger resident. Mrs. Cole was a nurse's aide at Highland General Hospital in Pampa. She attended Abundant Life Fellowship and was president of the Stroke Club. She married Banks Cole in 1937. He died in 1984. Survivors include a son, Gary Lynn Cole of Pampa; two daughters, Wilma Jean Miller of Borger and Velda Rice of San Antonio; a sister, Bertha Patton of Pampa; nine grandchildren; and 10 greatgrandchildren. Mildred Walters FRIONA - Mildred Walters, 86, of Hereford, died Monday, Jan. 18, 1999. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in Littlefield Cemetery in Littlefield with Paul Wyly of Hereford officiating. Arrangements are by Ellis-Blackwell Funeral Home of Friona. Mrs. Walters was born in Personville and had been a resident of Parmer County since 1952. Three months ago, she moved to Hereford. She was a homemaker and a member of Park Avenue Church of Christ in Hereford and the Hub Women's Club. She married Edgar Walters in 1952 at Clovis, N.M. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Joe Walters, in 1950 and by a son, Billy Ed Walters, in 1935. Survivors include her husband; a son, Joe Walters of Friona; three brothers, Kenneth Jordan of Somerville, Ala., Joe B. Jordan of San Antonio and D.T. Jordan Jr., of Dallas; five sisters, Rubie Gibbs of Yorba Linda, Calif., Faydell Turney of Hereford, Vera Miller of Abernathy, Mozelle Smith of Roswell, N.M., and Beatrice Allen of Houston; and three grandchildren. James Dee Calder James Dee Calder, 81, of Amarillo, died Monday, Jan. 18, 1999. Arrangements are by Brown Funeral Directors of Borger. A native of Hugo, Okla., Mr. Calder was an Army veteran of World War II. He was a former resident of the Dallas area, Borger, Amarillo and Alaska where he was a construction worker. In Alaska, he was a member of the Pipe Fitters and Plumbers Union No. UA367. He was of the Baptist faith. Services will be at 2:30 p.m. today in First Baptist Church in Hedley with the Rev. Bryan Knowles, pastor of Martin Baptist Church in Clarendon, and the Rev. Bruce Howard, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Rowe Cemetery by Robertson Funeral Home of Clarendon. Mr. Brown was born in Taylor, Ark., and moved to Hedley 62 years ago. Prior to his retirement, he was in the windmill and water well service business. He was of the Baptist faith. He married Ella Juanita Bramblett in 1937 at Lelia Lake. Survivors include his wife; four daughters, Gracie Burkhalter of Hedley, Marie Norton of White Deer and Kay Miller and Hellen Ford, both of Clarendon; two sons, Johnny M. Brown of May and Roy C. The family suggests memorials be to Rowe Cemetery Association in Hedley. D.L. Tucker MORTON - D.L. Tucker, 86, died Monday, Jan. 18, 1999. Services will be at 11 a.m. today in First Baptist Church of Morton with the Rev. Jesse Hodge, pastor of First United Methodist Church of Levelland, and the Rev. Danny Jackson, pastor, officiating. Burial with Masonic services will be at 10 a.m. in Morton Memorial Cemetery by Ellis Funeral Home of Muleshoe. Mr. Tucker was born in Mantachie, Miss. In the early 1930s, he moved to Cochran County area from Bailey County. He was a farmer and past director of Bailey County Electric and Five Area Telephone Co-operative. Mr. Tucker also served on the Maple Co-op Gin board. He was a Shriner and member of Morton Masonic Lodge. He married Mattie Jones in 1940 at Muleshoe. She died in 1997. Survivors include two sons, Ernest Tucker of Lubbock and John Tucker of Maple; a daughter, Dorothy Carlisle of Sherman; two brothers, B.H. Tucker of Morton and Guy L. Walker of Amarillo; three sisters, Bennie Mae Adams of Amarillo, Myneal Adams of Beaumont and Alzate Adams of Jasper; a brother, Jessie Lee Adams of Jasper; seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild. The family will be at 2520 N. Wilson St. Mamie V. Harrison Mamie V. Harrison, 92, of Austin and a former Amarillo resident, died Tuesday, Jan. 19, 1999. She attended West Texas Normal College in Canyon and business school in Wichita Falls. She was a bookkeeper for Jeff Bentley, CPA. Mrs. Harrison was a member of Polk Street United Methodist Church, the CoWorkers Sunday School Class and the Order of Eastern Star. She was a member and past president of the auxiliary of the Society of Professional Engineers. She married Frank G. Harrison in 1931 at Phoenix. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1976 and by a son, Bill S. Harrison, in 1994. Survivors include a daughter, Bobbie Gruhlkey of Austin; a sister, Gywn Kessler of Austin; six grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren. She was a member of Polk Street United Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, V.R. Henderson, in 1956. Survivors include her sister, Cecil Vivian "Dollie" Boydstun of Amarillo; and several nieces and nephews. Harold M. Hines Harold M. Hines, 83, of Amarillo, died Tuesday, Jan. 19, 1999. Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday in Memorial Park Funeral Home, Chapel of Memories, 6969 E. Interstate 40 with the Rev. Lee Walls and the Rev. Ed Barker of New Life Fellowship-Four Square Church officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Mr. Hines was born in Guthrie Center, Iowa. He was an Army veteran who served in Germany. In 1949, Mr. Hines moved to Amarillo from Des Moines, Iowa. He was employed as a meat cutter and was a member of New Life Fellowship-Four Square Church. He married Olive K. West in 1935 at Des Moines. Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Wanda Cooper and Nancy Tucker, both of Amarillo; a sister, Mildred Bain of Rowlett; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. The family suggests memorials be to American Heart Association. Elsewhere Van Blane Folley LUBBOCK - Van Blane Folley, 34, died Sunday, Jan. 17, 1999. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. today in Silverton Cemetery at Silverton by Myers-Long Funeral Directors of Silverton. Mr. Folley was born in Memphis, Texas. He was a member of Grace Assembly and Trinity churches in Lubbock. He was a carpenter. He married Tina Chaney in Plainview. Survivors include his wife; a son, Mark Roper of Lubbock; his mother, Patricia Vines of Silverton; two brothers, Roy Roper Jr. of Lubbock and Kyle Dunn; and a sister, Sabrina Roper of Silverton. Viola M. Franklin TUCSON, Ariz. - Viola M. Franklin, 84, died Saturday, Jan. 16, 1999. Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, June 5, at the church at Wayside, Texas. Arrangements in Tucson were by Wolfrey Peace Chapel. Local arrangements are by the family. Claud William Barclay SPUR - Claud William Barclay, 93, died Monday, Jan. 18, 1999. Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in First Baptist Church of Spur with the Rev. Norris Taylor of Idalou and the Rev. Richardson Harbison, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Spur Memorial Cemetery by Campbell Funeral Home of Spur. Mr. Barclay was born in Quitman and moved to Dickens County as a young boy, living in the Afton, McAdoo and Spur communities. In 1927, he graduated from barber school in Fort Worth. His first barber shop was in Afton in 1928. Mr. Barclay then moved to Petersburg and barbered for 17 years. He returned to Spur in 1945 to farm and barber. He was on the Board of Equalization for three years and on the city council for two years. In 1994, he retired at the age of 88 after 66 years as a barber. Mr. Barclay was a member of First Baptist Church in Spur where he was a deacon and served as Sunday School superintendent for several years and in other capacities including teacher and treasurer. He was past president of the Lions Club where he served for 40 years before retiring as honorary member. His first marriage was to Erma West in 1923 at Spur. She died in 1949. He then married Hazle Campbell in 1950 at Whiteface. She died in 1991. Survivors include two sons, Winston Barclay of Midland and Joe Barclay of Lubbock; two daughters, Margie Barclay of Lubbock and Melba Camp of Amarillo; eight grandchildren; and seven greatgrandchildren. New Mexico Albert Chiles CLOVIS, N.M. - Albert Chiles, 86, died Sunday, Jan. 17, 1999. Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in Steed-Todd Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Jim Weibling officiating. Burial will be in Melrose Cemetery at Melrose. Mr. Chiles was born in Clovis and raised in Melrose. He farmed in the Melrose, Floyd and Clovis areas. He also did remodeling and carpentry work. He was a longtime member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles. He married Mary Morris in 1937 at Muleshoe. Survivors include his wife; children, Mary Case of Clovis, Rosetta Shropshire of Lodi, Calif., and Dewey Chiles of Longmont, Colo.; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Manuelita Christian TUCUMCARI, N.M. - Manuelita "Lita" Christian, 88, died Sunday, Jan. 17, 1999. Rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. today in Dunn Funeral Home Chapel. Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Thursday in St. Anne's Catholic Church. Burial will be in Tucumcari Memorial Park Cemetery. Mrs. Christian was born in Colonias. She was a member of St. Anne's Catholic Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Carl O., and a son, John C. Survivors include three daughters, Wanda Rede and Alice Pack, both of Tucumcari, and Elonora Engle of Biscayne Park, Fla.; 27 grandchildren; 45 greatgrandchildren; and eight great-greatgrandchildren. The body will be available for viewing at the funeral home from noon today until service time. Clint Evans TUCUMCARI, N.M. - Clint Evans, 70, died Monday, Jan. 18, 1999. Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in Dunn Funeral Home Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Jim Witcher, minister of First Christian Church, officiating. Burial will be in the family plot at Tucumcari Memorial Park Cemetery. Mr. Evans was born in Duncan, Ariz., and had been a longtime resident of the San Jon area before moving to Tucumcari in 1969. He was a rancher and served in the Army Air Corps during World War II. Survivors include his wife, Billie; two brothers, Guy Evans of Waco, Texas, and Homer Evans of Deming; and two grandsons. The body will be available for viewing from noon today until service time. Oklahoma Ray Blehm GUYMON, Okla. - Ray Blehm, 66, died Saturday, Jan. 16, 1999. Services will be at 2 p.m. today in Bunch-Roberts Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Leon Lothman, pastor of Living Word Fellowship, officiating. Burial will be in Hooker Cemetery. Mr. Blehm was born in Optima and moved to Guymon in 1974 from Hooker. He attended Hooker schools, graduating in 1950. He had worked as a food service manager for the Guymon school system, retiring in 1993. He was a member of the Church of Christ and was an Air Force veteran of the Korean War. He married Sally McBee in 1957. Survivors include two daughters, Cindy Orthman and Garna Elston, both of Guymon; a son, Jeff Blehm of Guymon; a brother, LeRoy "Sweed" Blehm of King City, Mo.; a sister, Jean Hart of Perryton, Texas; six grandchildren; and a greatgranddaughter. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. today in Elmhurst Cemetery with Mike Brown officiating. Arrangements are by Bunch-Roberts Funeral Home. Mr. Brooks was born in Jamestown, Tenn., and the family moved to the Oklahoma Panhandle in the early 1920s. He farmed, ranched and did custom harvesting. He also worked as an automobile recycler. He married Arletta Z. Williams in 1936 at Liberal, Kan. In 1984, they moved to Guymon from LaCrosse, Kan. Survivors include his wife; three children, Warren Brooks and Gary Brooks, both of Dalhart, Texas, and Iva Perkins of Hooker; six grandchildren; and nine greatgrandchildren. Jaunita Burrow KEYES, Okla. - Jaunita Burrow, 86, died Monday, Jan. 18, 1999. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday in First Baptist Church with Jason Kearney officiating. Burial will be in Willowbar Cemetery in Keyes by Cimarron Mortuary of Boise City. Mrs. Burrow was born and raised near Keyes where she attended Bunker Hill School. In 1929, her family moved to Phoenix. They later returned to Cimarron County where she graduated from Keyes High School in 1933. Mrs. Burrow attended Panhandle A&M and Northwestern State College before she graduated from Oklahoma Baptist University in 1935. She taught at rural schools in several towns before returning to Keys to teach. Mrs. Burrow was active in the First Baptist Church of Keyes where she taught in the youth department. The Sunday school teachers presented her a plaque for 50-plus years of work. She was director and associational director for the Women's Missionary Union. For 12 years, Mrs. Burrow served on the Town Board. She was on the board of directors of Cimarron Feeders and Cimarron Elevator, a member of Keyes Garden Club and a charter member of Delta Kappa Gamma sorority. In 1991, she was chosen Santa Fe Trail Queen. She married David Burrow in 1945. He preceded her in death. Survivors include three sons, Fred Burrow of Keyes, Eldon Burrow of Albuquerque, N.M., and David LeRoy Burrow of Stillwater; three brothers, Clarence Wilmarth and Kenneth Wilmarth, both of Keyes, and Elmer Wilmarth of Oklahoma City; a sister, Leola Moore; six grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. The family suggests memorials be to First Baptist Church Memorial Fund which may be left in care of the mortuary.
