Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in Hedley Cemetery at Hedley with the Rev. Phillip Shelton officiating. Arrangements are by Memphis Funeral Home of Memphis. Mrs. Barnes was born in Howard County, Ark., and raised in Hedley. She had lived in Amarillo most of her life. She was employed by Doche and Co. Cleaners for 37 years. After retiring, she worked for Fashion Corner as a salesclerk for eight years. She was preceded in death by a son, Melvin Eugene Barnes. Survivors include two daughters, Barbara Allen of Logan, N.M., and Carolyn Luttrell of Waco; a son, Don Barnes of Henrietta; four sisters, Myrtle Blanks and Hazel Darnell, both of Memphis, Amolene Taylor of Amarillo and Geraldine Harris of Ventura, Calif; a brother, Earl Tollett of Borger; 11 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and seven greatgreat-grandchildren. Mrs. Edgerton was born in Lynn County and graduated from O'Donnell High School. She was a pediatric licensed vocational nurse at Big Spring and was a member of the Church of Christ in O'Donnell and the Order of Eastern Star. She married Slim Edgerton in 1928 at O'Donnell. He died in 1950. She later married Pete Edgerton in 1955 at O'Donnell. He preceded her in death in 1987. Survivors include a daughter, Betty Carter of Pampa; a sister, Lola Culp of Tahoka; three grandchildren; seven greatgrandchildren; and a great-grandchild. The family requests memorials be to a favorite charity. Nelson Leroy Holly TULIA - Nelson Leroy Holly, 77, died Sunday, May 16, 1999. He was a horse trainer who showed horses. He was a member of the Veteran's of Foreign Wars and was a Baptist. Arrangements are by CarmichaelWhatley Funeral Directors. Mrs. Hale was born in Pampa where she was a lifelong resident. She graduated from Pampa High School. Mrs. Hale worked as a bookkeeper for Pupco for 10 years and was a homemaker. She was a member of the American Petroleum Institute Ladies Auxiliary, and the Mary Ellen and Harvester Church of Christ. She married Dick L. Hale in 1979 at Pampa. She was preceded in death by a son, Ricky Edwards. Survivors include her husband; a son, Billy Edwards of Huntingdon Valley, Pa.; a daughter, Angie Cotton of Pampa; her parents, Aubrey and Evalyn Kitchens of Pampa; a stepson, Dick L. Gabriel Hernandez MULESHOE - Gabriel Hernandez, 80, died Wednesday, May 19, 1999. Rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. today at the Ellis Funeral Home Chapel. Mr. Hernandez was born in Seguin. In 1954 he moved from Arkansas to Muleshoe. He was a trucker. He married Mary DeLeon in 1959 at Lamesa. Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Rose Mary Rangel of Muleshoe; a sister, Eluteria Chavez of Seguin; a brother, Paul Hernandez of Muleshoe; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Woodrow Sims SHAMROCK - Woodrow Sims, 83, died Wednesday, May 19, 1999. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday in First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Todd Dyess of Pampa and the Rev. John Dorn, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Shamrock Cemetery by Wright Funeral Directors of Shamrock. A lifelong resident of Shamrock, Mr. Sims graduated from Shamrock High School in 1933. During World War II, he served in the Army 36th Infantry Division in the Italian, southern France and German campaigns. From 1962 until 1970, Mr. Sims was secretary and tax assessor for the city of Shamrock. He was city manager from 1980 until his retirement in 1984. For several years, he served as secretary for the First United Methodist Church. Mr. Sims was a longtime member of the First Christian Church and the Masonic Lodge No. 929. He was initiated in 1948, raised to a fellow craftsman after a month and became a master mason within two months. In 1964, he served as master mason and District No. 98 deputy grand master. He received his 50-year pin in 1998. Mr. Sims was a past worthy patron of the Order of Eastern Star. He was a member of the Shriner's, Scottish Rite of Lubbock and the American Legion Deshazo George Post No. 68. Survivors include a granddaughter, Jo Fenley of Erick, Okla., and several nieces and nephews. W.B. Wade BORGER - W.B. "Bill" Wade, 90, died Thursday, May 6, 1999. Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in Brown Funeral Directors Chapel of the Fountains with the Rev. Leonard Forsythe, pastor of Bible Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Cemetery at Stinnett. Mr. Wade was born in Atoka, Okla., and had been a Stinnett-Borger area resident for 62 years. He was a retired maintenance supervisor for Phillips Petroleum Co. He was preceded in death by his wife, Helen Daily Wade, in 1981. Survivors include a brother, Ben Wade of Shidler, Okla. Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in Trinity Baptist Church of Muleshoe with the Rev. Robert Brown, pastor, and the Rev. Dale Berry of Lubbock officiating. Burial will be in Muleshoe Memorial Park Cemetery by Ellis Funeral Home of Muleshoe. Mr. Harp was born in Greer County, Okla. He moved to Muleshoe in 1940 from Reed, Okla. Prior to opening his own welding shop, he worked for Edwards Gin for 18 years and Mills Welding and Machine for six years. He also drove the van for the Senior Citizens for seven years. He married Lucille Carter in 1941 at Morton. Survivors include his wife; two sons, Jerry Harp of Levelland and Keith Harp of Muleshoe; a brother, J.S. Lucille Scott SANFORD - Lucille Scott, 90, died Tuesday, May 18, 1999. Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in Sanford First Baptist Church with the Rev. Ricky Griffin, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery in Pampa by Minton / Chatwell Funeral Directors of Borger. Mrs. Scott was born in Hollis, Okla., and had lived in Sanford since 1935. For 40 years, she was Democratic chairman. She was a member of Sanford First Baptist Church and a homemaker. She married Frank Scott in 1935 at Guymon, Okla. He died in 1994. Survivors include two daughters, Narbara Yeager of Clinton, Okla., and Dusty McGuire of Amarillo; a brother, Billy Gilbreath of Seattle; three sisters, Francis Evans of Carson, Calif., Jaunita Williams of Kingston, Okla., and Olene Shyrock of Worland, Wyo.; three grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and a step-great-grandchild. Mrs. Winn was born in Cedar Hill community and attended schools in Floydada. After graduating from Floydada High School, she attended Draughon's Business College in Plainview. A retired secretary, she was a member of First Baptist Church of Lockney. She married George Winn in 1969 at Lockney. He died in 1995. Survivors include three sons, Richard Breckenridge of Lockney, Ronnie Breckenridge of Dalhart and Joe Breckenridge of Rogers, Ark.; a daughter, Mary Ann Scroggins of Plainview; a brother, Fred Fortenberry of Amarillo; a sister, Mary Ann Tucker of Lubbock; 20 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren. Services will be at 3 p.m. Saturday in Sudan Church of Christ with Dean Wiseman of Dimmitt and James Withrow of Sudan officiating. Burial will be in Sudan Cemetery by Ellis Funeral Home of Sudan. Mrs. Wiseman was born in Williamson County and moved to Sudan in 1923 from Copperas Cove. In 1972, she moved to Hereford and then lived in Plainview. She was a homemaker and member of Hereford Church of Christ. She married Charles Wiseman in 1926 at Bailey County. He died in 1987. Survivors include five children, T.C. Wiseman of Clovis, N.M., Buddy Wiseman of Friona, Charlene Wiseman Griffin of Plainview, Paula Shaw of Amarillo and Francis Sisco of Southlake; 14 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and a greatgreat-grandchild. Burgess HALE CENTER - Houston L. Burgess, 73, of Asa, died Friday, May 14, 1999. Memorial services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday in First United Methodist Church of Hale Center with Silas Short, Church of Christ minister of Throckmorton, officiating. Mr. Burgess was born in Goree and moved to Hale Center in 1928 where he graduated from high school. He served in the Navy during World War II. He was a farmer for many years and a member of First United Methodist Church. His second marriage was to Donna Burgess. His first marriage was to Alice Mozelle Fleming who died in 1967. Survivors include two sons, Donald L. Burgess of Plains and Jason Burgess of Temple; a daughter, Sherrel Mulvany of Lubbock; and six grandchildren. Amarillo LIDIA and ANITA CHAIREZ Jorge Chairez, Maria Angelina Chairez, Lidia Chairez, and Anita Maria Chairez Jorge Chairez, 50, Maria Angelina Chairez, 39, Lidia Chairez, 13, and Anita Maria Chairez, 7, all of 1026 Bagarry, died Sunday, May 16, 1999. Joint rosary will be recited at 6 p.m. today in Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. Joint Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday in Our Lady of Guadalupe by the Rev. Hector Madrigal. Burial will be in Llano East Cemetery by Rector Funeral Home, 2800 S. Osage St. Jorge was born in Vergel Nieves, Zac, Mexico, and moved to Amarillo in 1987 from Juarez, Mexico. He had worked for IBP for 12 years. He married Maria Angelina Ambriz in 1975 at Juarez. Maria was born in Juarez and moved to Amarillo in 1987. She had worked for Amarillo Mop and Broom Co. for five years as a seamstress. She and Jorge were married in 1975 at Juarez. Lidia was born in El Paso and had lived in Amarillo most of her life. She was a seventh-grader at Bowie Middle School. Anita was born in Amarillo. She was a first-grader at Sunrise Elementary School. They were all members of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. Jorge is survived by a daughter, Angela Chairez of Amarillo; a son, Jorge Chairez Jr. of the home; three brothers, Jose Chairez and Juan Chairez, both of Mexico, and Jesus Chairez of Amarillo; and three grandchildren. Maria is survived by a daughter, Angela Chairez of Amarillo; a son, Jorge Chairez Jr. of the home; three sisters, Carolina Ambriz and Cristina Fernandez, both of Juarez, and Patricia Padron of Amarillo; three brothers, Ricardo Ambriz, Martin Ambriz and Jose Luis Ambriz, all of Juarez; her mother, Cleotilde Rodriguez of Juarez; and three grandchildren. She married Jose Preciado in 1944 at Amarillo. Survivors include a son, Johnny Preciado of Amarillo; two daughters, Angelina Preciado of Amarillo and Natalie Preciado of Whiteface; four brothers, Gilbert Martinez, Benny Martinez and Joe Martinez, all of Albuquerque, N.M., and Willie Martinez of Downey, Colo.; five sisters, Margaret Saiz, Theresa Lucero, Gloria Maestas, Nora Vargas and Georgia Atencio, all of Albuquerque; eight grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild. Griggs & Sons Funeral Directors, 2615 Paramount Blvd. Mr. Stroud was born in Tyban, N.M., and had lived in Amarillo for more than 40 years. In 1985, he retired after 25 years as owner of J.O. Stroud Construction Co. From 1969 until 1979, he was co-owner of K&S Enterprises in Bovina. He was past president of the Texas Contractors Association. He was preceded in death by his wife in 1995 and a daughter, Joy Stroud, in 1985. Survivors include two daughters, Frances Stratton of Amarillo and Dorathy Smith of Farmington, N.M.; a brother, William F. Stroud of Skellytown; a sister, Sybil Brannon of Amarillo; seven grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren. The family suggests memorials be to the American Cancer Society. Phu Phan of the church officiating. Mrs. Andazola was born in Juarez Chihuahua, Mexico. She had lived in Los Angeles, El Paso and Houston before moving to Amarillo 18 months ago. She was a homemaker and a Catholic. She married Salvado Melendez, who preceded her in death. Survivors include a daughter, Ofelia Kvittem of Houston; three grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. New Mexico Opal Snipes Blackburn CLOVIS, N.M. - Opal Snipes Blackburn, 84, died Wednesday, May 19, 1999. Services will be at 1 p.m Saturday in Steed-Todd Funeral Home Chapel. Graveside services will be at 3:30 p.m. Saturday in Hassell Cemetery at Hassell. Mrs. Blackburn was born in House, N.M. She married Huey Baxter Snipes in 1935 and they lived in the House community until his death in 1978. For many years, Mrs. Blackburn taught school and also served as the mayor of House. She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church. She moved to Clovis after her husband's death. She later married Frank Blackburn, who died in 1986. She also was preceded in death by a son, Jerry Snipes, in 1966. Survivors include three sons, Jimmie Blackburn of McAlister, and Dennis Blackburn and Bernie Blackburn, both of Clovis; two brothers, Ted Smith and James M. Wise; three sisters, Iris Jordan, Edna Robberson and LaVern Schwartz; 10 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild. The family will be at 1516 Sheffield. Mrs. Willis was born in Melrose and lived and worked in Clovis for most of her life. From 1989 until 1997, she lived in Amarillo. Oklahoma Alice Evelyn Boyd BOISE CITY, Okla. - Alice Evelyn Boyd, 64, died Wednesday, May 19, 1999. Graveside services will be at 4 p.m. Saturday in Boise City Cemetery with Don Lawrence officiating. Arrangements are by Cimarron Mortuary of Boise City. Mrs. Boyd was born in Roger Mills County. She lived in Boise City from 1965 until 1975 then moved away. She returned to Boise City in 1987 where she was a cook for the Boise City Senior Citizens Center. She married Eugene Boyd in 1997 at Dalhart, Texas. She was preceded in death by two husbands, Charles Guy and J.H. Branch. Survivors include her husband; a son, Ricky Lynn Guy; two daughters, Charlene Collins of Boise City and Charlotte Shaw of Boulevard, Calif.; a stepson, Jim Boyd of Boise City; two stepdaughters, Carolyn Marie Guzman of Amarillo and Judy Nelson of Stratford; a brother, Gerald Dee Montgomery of Crawford; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; seven step-grandchildren; and four step-greatgrandchildren.
