Amarillo Sunday News-Globe Nov. 21, 1999 C.W. Turner MATADOR - C.W. Turner, 82, of DeLeon, died Oct. 23, 1999. Graveside rites were held at 10:30 a.m. Friday in East Mound Cemetery in Matador with the Rev. Truman Johnson, pastor, of Broadview Baptist Church in Lubbock, officiating. Cremation was by Nowlin Funeral Home in DeLeon. Local arrangements were by Seigler Funeral Home of Matador. Mr. Turner was born in Blue Ridge and was a former resident of Motley County. He had worked as a lineman and supervisor for electric companies and civilian contractors in several states, Vietnam and Korea. Mr. Turner worked for St. Mary's Hospital and Texas Tech University in Lubbock. He was a veteran of World War II and a member of the Masonic Lodge. He had been a resident of DeLeon for several years. Survivors include a niece, Linda Jo Kohler of Shallowater; and three nephews, Don Turner and W.G. Turner, both of Lubbock, and Bob Turner of San Angelo. Services were at 2 p.m. Saturday in Muleshoe Church of Christ with Royce Clay and Harry Riggs officiating. Burial was in Muleshoe Memorial Park Cemetery by Ellis Funeral Home. Mrs. Bales was born in Tipton, Okla. In 1951, she moved from Levelland to Muleshoe where she was a homemaker and member of Muleshoe Church of Christ. She married Doug Bales in 1941 at Littlefield. Survivors include her husband; a son, Kem Bales of Muleshoe; and three grandchildren. Don Conner and the Rev. David Williams officiating. Burial will be in Hillcrest Cemetery in McLean by Wright Funeral Directors. Mr. Reneau was born in Merkel. He had lived in Corpus Christi where he was plant manager for Delhi Taylor Refineries. In 1988, he moved to Wheeler County and lived in Shamrock. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Shamrock. He married Myrtle Cammack in 1935. She died in 1988. Survivors include a brother, James Reneau of Shamrock; and three sisters, Edith Stauffer of Whittier, Calif., Emma Kukendall of Price, Utah and Grace Hanner of Shamrock. Mrs. Cole was born in Gladewater and moved to Plainview 63 years ago. She was a graduate of Booker T. High School and worked for the Plainview Independent School District. She was a member of Beard Chapel Methodist Church and the Adult Women's Study Club. She married Lonnie Jimmy Cole in 1960. He died in 1991. Arrangements are by Stickley-Hill Funeral Directors. Mrs. Conatser was born in Hemphill County and attended business college in Canyon. She owned Hood Abstract, served as County Clerk for Hemphill County, and was a member of First Presbyterian Church. In 1993, she moved to Tulsa. She married Orrin Jasper Gross in 1927. He died in 1967. She married Tom Conatser in 1970. He died in 1988. Survivors include two grandsons, Brian Gross of Tulsa and Blake Gross of Owasso, Okla.; two great-grandsons, Brent Gross and Branden Gross; and nieces and nephews. She was a member of Elkins Home Demonstration Club and First United Methodist Church. She married Norman McAnelly in 1934 at Plainview. He died in 1994. Survivors include a daughter, Carolyn Mote of Tulia; a son, Dr. Alan McAnelly of Cedar Park; five grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. He married Dominga Sabala in 1947 at Morton. Richard Scully of the church officiating. Burial will be in Dumas Cemetery. Mr. Martinez was born in Encinal and had lived in Dumas for more than 50 years. He served with the Army during World War II and retired from American Zinc after 25 years. He was a member of Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church. He married Maria Delrefugio Avila in 1971 at El Paso. Survivors include his wife; three sons, Stanley Martinez of Amarillo, Henry Martinez of Lafayette, La., and Edward Martinez of Oakland, Calif.; and a daughter, Mary Inez of California. Patrick "Pat" Barnes, 33, of Amarillo, died Saturday, Nov. 6, 1999, at Seattle. A private gathering of family and friends will be Tuesday. Arrangements in Seattle were handled by Bonney Watson Funeral Home. Mr. Barnes was born in Seattle and graduated from Washington State University where he was a member of Delta Tau Delta fraternity. He moved to Amarillo two years ago as general manager of Lamar Outdoor, a billboard company. He served as vice-president of the Kiwanis Club and participated in the Asarco Bowling League. He volunteered with several charities. Before moving to Amarillo, he spent five years in Los Angeles and Atlanta at a billboard buying service, Outdoor Services, and two years in Memphis at Universal Outdoor. He married Tena in 1994 at Atlanta, Ga. Survivors include his wife; and daughter, Riley Nicole. Mr. Heath was born in Seminole, Okla. In 1955, he moved to Amarillo and worked for Cooper and Woodruff Road Construction until his retirement. He served with the Navy during World War II and was a member of First Baptist Church. He married Kathyrn Simmons in 1936 at Cromwell, Okla. She died in 1998. Survivors include three brothers, Chester G. Heath of Collinsville, Monroe T. Heath of Slayton and W.L. Heath of Amarillo; and three sisters, LaVada Jones and Mildred White, both of Decatur, and Marie Malone of Shawnee, Okla. Viewing will be from 11 a.m. until 9 p.m. today. Mr. Poe was born in Mineral Wells and moved to Amarillo in 1946. In 1985, he retired after 40 years as a repair technician for Southwestern Bell. He was a member of the Masons, Palo Duro Lodge No. 1239, Pleasant Valley Senior Citizens, the Telephone Pioneers and a former board member of River Road Independent School District. His son, Lewis Poe, died in 1972. His daughter, Pamela Blakely, died in 1971. He married Sarah Smith in 1947 at Amarillo. Survivors include his wife; a son, Donald Poe of Smithville; a daughter, Viki Ulch of Norman, Okla.; seven grandchildren; and a great-grandchild. She married Rutherford Proffitt in 1919 at Reno, Texas. He died in 1978. Wood CLAYTON, N.M. - Virginia M. Wood, 84, died Friday, Nov. 19, 1999. There will be no services. Arrangements are by Hass Funeral Directors. Mrs. Wood was born in Hutchinson, Kan., and graduated from Hutchinson High School in 1932. She worked for J.S. Dillon and Sons of Hutchinson and Lyons, Kan., and was a nurse for Dr. H.H. Mettling at his Monroe Street clinic. From 1974 until 1982, she drove the mail route from Clayton to Boise City, Okla. She married Lee W. Havercroft in 1935 at Russell. He died in 1964. In 1965, she returned to Clayton and married Fred L. "Tiny" Wood. Survivors include her husband; and two sisters, Catherine Robinson of Texline, Texas and Elizabeth McCurry of Hutchinson, Kan. Amarillo Sunday News-Globe Nov. 21, 1999 Oklahoma Jack L. Griffin TYRONE, Okla. - Jack L. Griffin, 72, died Friday, Nov. 19, 1999. Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday in Tyrone Baptist Church with the Rev. Carl Hein officiating. Burial will be in Hooker Cemetery at Hooker by Roberts Brothers Funeral Home of Hooker. Mr. Griffin was born in Dalhart and grew up in the Dalhart and Delores, Colo. areas before moving to Hooker. In 1945, he graduated from Hooker High School and joined the Army to serve during World War II. He was a member of the Tyrone Board of Education and worked for Hugoton Plains Oil and Gas Company until his retirement in 1989. He served as the Scoutmaster of Tyrone Boy Scout Troop 100 and was a recipient of the Silver Beaver Award. He married Mildred Nagel in 1947. She died in 1977. He was also preceded in death by three infant grandchildren. He married Charlene Koehn in 1987 at Perryton, Texas. Survivors include his wife; four daughters, Marcia Rudd of Edmonds, Wash., Shirley Kilpatrick of Yukon, Jacque Bryant of Midland, Texas, and Gayle Cain of Tyrone; two stepdaughters, Michelle McCray of Wichita, Kan., and Cindi Mills of Hooker; a stepson, Kevin Koehn of Hooker; three sisters, Etoile Witt of Hooker, Raylene Winn of Calhoun, Mo., and Margaret Serfoss of Clinton; two brothers, Roy Griffin of San Leandro, Calif., and Bob Griffin of Breckenridge, Texas; nine grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Amarillo Sunday News-Globe Nov. 21, 1999 Lacy B. Boyd BARTLESVILLE, Okla. - Lacy B. Boyd, 94, died Thursday, Nov. 18, 1999. Masonic graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Monday in Olympus Cemetery, northwest of Childress. Arrangements are by Johnson Funeral Home of Childress. Mr. Boyd was born in Wise County and was a drilling superintendent for Rowan Drilling Company until his retirement in 1964. He married Gertie May Hall in 1928 at Childress. She died in 1993. He was also preceded in death by a granddaughter, Kimberly Clark House, in 1978. Survivors include two daughters, Joanne Boyd Clark of Bartlesville and Billie Boyd Larrison of Childress; two sisters, Luty Boyd B. Vaughan of Canyon and Pauline Boyd Wesley of Happy; five grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until noon Monday at the funeral home.
