George R. Bagley Sr. PAMPA - George R. Bagley Sr., 91, died Wednesday, Jan. 20, 1999. Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors Colonial Chapel with the Rev. John Glover, associate pastor of First Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery. Mr. Bagley was born in Celeste and moved to Kingsmill in 1946 from Nebraska. He moved to Pampa in 1972 from Kingsmill. He worked for Natural Gas Pipeline for 38 years as a foreman, retiring in 1972. He was a member of First Baptist Church and the Homebound Sunday School Department. He was a former member of the Pampa Evening Lions Club and the White Deer Lions Club and was an active member of the Pampa Senior Citizens Center. He married Helen Gibbs in 1930 at Chanute, Kan. Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Marilyn Kirkwood of Pampa and Ruthann Bailey of Muncie, Ind.; a son, George R. Bagley Jr. of Lovington, N.M.; a brother, Bill Bagley of Houston; a sister, Mattie Claire of Arizona; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Almeda Catherine Jarrell Fraser PAMPA - Almeda Catherine Jarrell Fraser, 85, died Wednesday, Jan. 20, 1999. Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors Colonial Chapel with the Rev. Todd Dyess, pastor of First United Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery. Mrs. Fraser was born in Memphis, Texas, and raised in the Swearingen community. She moved to Pampa in 1937 from Memphis. She was a graduate of Memphis High School and attended West Texas State University. She was an honorary member of the 20th Century Forum Study Club and a member of First United Methodist Church. Her grandparents were Panhandle pioneers who settled in Hall County in 1890 and her parents settled in Collingsworth County in 1916. She married William T. Fraser in 1937 at Memphis. He died in 1966. Survivors include two sons, Lee Fraser of Pampa and Bill Fraser of Denver; two daughters, Nicki Lyon of Manhattan Beach, Calif., and Linda Chilton of Heath; two sisters, Wilma Weston of Amarillo and June Atkins of Shalimar, Fla.; 10 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. The family requests memorials be to a favorite charity. They will be at 102 W. 18th. Barbara Ann Lewis PAMPA - Barbara Ann "Sue" Lewis, 57, died Thursday, Jan. 21, 1999. Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in Central Baptist Church with the Rev. Rick Parnell, associate pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Memory Gardens Cemetery by Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors. Mrs. Lewis was born in Gordon. She graduated from Tarleton State University and received her master's of business administration degree from West Texas State University. A former Borger resident, she moved to Pampa in 1971. Mrs. Lewis was an elementary school teacher at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church and retired in 1993 from Woodrow Wilson Elementary. She was a homemaker, member of Central Baptist Church and an Army veteran. She married L.D. Lewis in 1968 at Mineral Wells. Survivors include her husband; a son, Tim Lewis of Laverne, Okla.; her mother, Eva Mayes of Pampa; two brothers, Charles Mayes of Mineral Wells and Jerral Mayes of Savannah, Ga.; and two grandchildren. Austin Kyle Hunter BORGER - Austin Kyle Hunter, 6month-ld son of Kelly Foran and Mark Hunter Jr., died Wednesday, Jan. 20, 1999. He was a retired teacher and chemist with Phillips Petroleum. He was a member of First Christian Church. He married Klina Vondell Kees in 1937 at Canyon. Survivors include his wife; a son, James R. Frances Cass PLAINVIEW - Frances Cass, 87, died Thursday, Jan. 21, 1999. Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in St. Mark's Episcopal Church with the Rev. Jim Mock, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Parklawn Memorial Gardens by Lemons Funeral Home of Plainview. Mrs. Cass was born and raised in Amarillo and was a graduate of Amarillo High School. She graduated from Kansas State University where she was a member of Alpha Delta Phi. In 1940, she moved to Plainview. Mrs. Cass was a teacher for St. Mark's Parish Day School. Since 1951, she was a member of St. Mark's Episcopal Church. She married R.L. "Red" Cass in 1931 at Amarillo. He died in 1997. Survivors include a son, Ross Cass of Dallas; two sisters, Inga Pratt of Albuquerque, N.M., and Flora Spangler of Olympia, Wash.; two grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren. Mr. Galyen was born in San Diego and graduated from Arroyo Grande High School. He served for three tours in the Navy. Survivors include a daughter, Robin Galyen of Santa Maria, Calif.; a brother, Jim Galyen of Lompoc, Calif.; and two sisters, Maureen Jackson of Reno and Fran Schilt of Golden, Colo. Virginia Walker Palmer HEREFORD - Virginia Walker Palmer, 92, died Thursday, Jan. 21, 1999. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Monday in Enid Cemetery in Enid, Okla., with Harold Beltz Jr. of the Seventh-day Adventist Church officiating. Arrangements are by Gililland-Watson Funeral Home of Hereford and Brown Funeral Home of Enid. Mrs. Palmer was born in Enid. During World War II, she worked at Boeing Aircraft. In 1965, she retired as a teacher, having taught in Oklahoma, Kansas, Colorado, Wyoming and California. She last taught at the Military Academy in California. She moved to Deaf Smith County in 1966 from California. She was a member of First Christian Church. Her first marriage was to Roy Walker in 1932 at Taloga, Okla. He died in 1962. She then married Homer Palmer in 1980 at Las Vegas. He died in 1993. Survivors include two sons, Dan Walker of Hereford and Jim Walker of Ridgecrest, Calif.; a brother, Wilson Jomnes of Clinton, Okla.; two grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. She married Ray Corcoran in 1981 at Pampa. She was preceded in death by an infant son, Mark Lane Dunn, in 1974. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1991 and by a daughter, Ruby Lee Kitchens, in 1997. For 38 years, he had lived in Memphis where he was a farmer and worked for the compress. He married Eula in 1937 at Commerce. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Levern Rea. Survivors include his wife; five sons, Don Booth of Childress, Kenneth Booth of Clarendon, Bobby Booth and Jimmy Booth, both of Memphis, and Alan Booth of Amarillo; a daughter, Mary Middleton of Memphis; 17 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren. Amarillo David Leo Keys David Leo Keys, 48, of Amarillo, died Wednesday, Jan. 20, 1999. He was a janitor at Texas Tech University Health Science Center and attended Borger Missionary Baptist Church. He married Marie Anders in 1996 in Amarillo. Survivors include his wife; father and stepmother, Charlie Clyde and Pat Keys of Dumas; a brother, Bill Keys of Durante; a stepbrother, Garland Banes of Plainview; a sister, Goldie Dziuk of Amarillo; a half-sister, Patricia Keys of Midlothian; and a stepsister, Alveta Fergueson of Melrose, N.M. Mr. Mitchell was born in Trinidad, Colo., and moved to Amarillo in 1951 from Rifle, Colo. He married Doris Wilkins in 1937 at Lincoln, Neb. Survivors include his wife; a son, Jim Mitchell of Korea, R.O.C.; a daughter, Jane Stewart of Amarillo; and four grandchildren. Charles E. Butler Charles E. Butler, 84, of Amarillo, died Wednesday, Jan. 20, 1999. Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in Woodbine Cemetery at Artesia, N.M. Arrangements are by Colonial Funeral Chapel, 1010 W. Ninth Ave. Mr. Butler was born in Tulsa, Okla., and moved to Amarillo in 1995. He attended a private Catholic school in Tulsa. He had worked for Sinclair Oil, which is now Arco Oil, for 35 years where he was a senior drill operator. He also worked for Mack Chase Inc., in Artesia for 10 years. He was an Army Air Corps veteran and received the Theater Ribbon with one Silver Service Star; Two Bronze Service Stars; the American Theater Ribbon; World War II Victory Ribbon; Good Conduct Medal; and the District Unit Badge. He was preceded in death by his wife, Wilma Lea. Survivors include two sons, Mark Butler of Ackworth, Ga., and Mike Butler of Amarillo; two daughters, Diana LaPrade of Phoenix and Michelle Butler Blackham of Glendale, Calif.; and 11 grandchildren. James Whitney Mangum James Whitney Mangum, 82, of Amarillo, died Wednesday, Jan. 20, 1999. Services will be at 10 a.m. today in Rector Funeral Home Chapel, 2800 S. Osage, with Dr. Dana Moore, pastor of Pleasant Valley Baptist Church, officiating. Graveside services will be at noon in Panhandle Cemetery. Mr. Mangum was born in Canadian and moved to Panhandle in 1943 from Oklahoma. He moved to Amarillo nine years ago. He had worked for Pantex as a forklift operator for more than 35 years. He was a member of River Road Fellowship Church. He married Oma Vee McLaughlin in 1934 at Sayre, Okla. She died in 1997. He also was preceded in death by a daughter, Lorraine Poole in 1976. Survivors include a daughter, Lora Etta Harris of Amarillo; a son, Rick Mangum of Amarillo; 10 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and eight greatgreat-grandchildren. The family will be at 314 Fairlane and request memorials be to the ARC fund at Pleasant Valley Baptist Church. Evelyn Wheeler Evelyn "Sally" Wheeler, 63, died Thursday, Jan. 21, 1999. Private services are planned. Cremation and arrangements are by Memorial Park Funeral Home, 6969 E. Interstate 40. Mrs. Wheeler was born in Oklahoma City. She moved to Amarillo in 1951 from Boise City, Okla. In 1987, she retired as grader inspector from Southwestern Publications. Mrs. Wheeler was of the Baptist faith. She was a member of Texas Motorcycle Road Riders Association and Panhandle Road Riders Motorcycle Association. She married Buford Wheeler Sr., in 1951 at Clayton, N.M. He died in 1990. Survivors include five sons, Roger Wheeler of Mathis, Buford Wheeler and Billy Joe Wheeler, both of Amarillo, Walter Wheeler of Dalhart and Charles Wheeler of Union, Mo.; three daughters, Jean Lucas of Canyon and Melinda Wheeler and Cheryl Wheeler, both of Amarillo; a brother, Rex Williams of Stratford; two sisters, Goldie Morgan and Babe Ruth Warner, both of Amarillo; 23 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. After graduation from Mary-Hardin Baylor College, she went to Europe to study music and languages. In 1935, she moved to Amarillo where she taught language in Amarillo public schools. She was a member of First Baptist Church and was active as a Sunday school teacher for many years. She married Guy L. Carlander in 1935. He died in 1975. Survivors include her cousins, F. Lynn Lile of Wichita Falls, Sue Reeves of Manhattan, Kan., and Virginia Lessert. The family suggests memorials be to First Baptist Church or Ware Memorial Care Center. Mr. Morse was born in Okemah, Okla., and moved to Amarillo in 1946. He retired as a heavy equipment operator for Enix Construction Co. During World War II, he was a Navy seabee. Survivors include two daughters, Marla Jean McEachern of Amarillo and Glenda Ann Kessler of Gonzales; two brothers, Jake Morse of Midland and Ronald Morse of Dumas; a sister, Jewel Robertson of Allison; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Oklahoma Laura May Melkus FREEDOM, Okla. - Laura May Melkus, 81, died Wednesday, Jan. 20, 1999. Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in Marshall Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Mel Brown officiating. Burial will be in Preston Hill Cemetery. Mrs. Melkus was born in Woods County, Okla., and attended Farry School. She was a longtime resident of Freedom where she helped her husband farm. She was a member of Woods County Mineral Owners Association, the Cattlemen's Association, a lifetime member of Rebekah Lodge and a lifetime member of Cimarron Cowboys Association. She married Alba C. Melkus in 1934 at Alva. Survivors include her husband; three sons, Keith Melkus of Larnard, Kan., Francis Melkus of Amarillo and Lowell Melkus of Freedom; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and special friends, Harold and Sharon Snow and Mary Snow. Burial will be in Llano Cemetery in Amarillo by French Mortuary, 10500 Lomas Blvd. N.E., Albuquerque. She was preceded in death by her husband, Foster L. Kemp, and a son, William A. Kemp. Survivors include her five children, James N. Kemp of Henderson, Nev., Frances E. Schumacher and John L. Kemp, both of Amarillo, and Barbara Sue McKennon and Kathleen D. Laney, both of Albuquerque; 19 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.
