Burial will be in Hartley Cemetery by Hass Funeral Home of Dalhart. Mrs. Harbert was born in Seiling, Okla. She attended college at Seiling before moving to Hartley in 1930. She received a master's degree from West Texas State University. She taught first grade in Hartley for more than 42 years and was a member of the Hartley Christian Fellowship Church. In 1956, she married Eddie Harbert in Amarillo. He died in 1983. Survivors include two brothers, David V. Kimball of Longdale, Okla., and Richard L. Kimball of Port Orchard; and two sisters, Euletta J. Martin of Wichita, Kan., and Anna L. McCrabb of Belle Fourche, S.D. Orval D. Slaughter PLAINVIEW - Orval D. Slaughter, 76, of Edmonson, died Sunday, June 20, 1999. Services will be at 2 p.m. today in Lemons Funeral Home Memorial Chapel with the Rev. A.C. Hamilton, retired Baptist minister, officiating. Burial will be in Plainview Cemetery. Mr. Slaughter was born in Quanah and was raised in Plainview. He was a member of Edmonson Lions Club and the American Legion. He also coached Little League baseball teams for many years. He retired as a welder from Franklin Bains Repair Shop in Edmonson. He married Jewell Aleen in 1976. She died in 1998. Survivors include two sons, Richard Slaughter of Cisco and Everett Oscar Slaughter of Fort Worth; three stepsons, Charles DeGraff of Tucson, Ariz., Andy DeGraff of Plainview and Don DeGraff of Greeley, Colo.; grandchildren and greatgrandchildren. John Henry Phillips QUANAH - John Henry Phillips, 71, died Monday, June 21, 1999, at Altus, Okla. Wake service will be from 7 to 8 p.m. Thursday in Price-Jackson Funeral Home Chapel. Mr. Phillips was born in Sharp, and moved to Quanah in 1964 from Chillicothe. He worked for the Quanah Cotton Oil Mill, recently retiring as a supervisor in the mixed feed plant. He was a member of the Macedonia Baptist Church and was a Mason. He married Mae Helen Longmiles in 1947 at Chillicothe. Survivors include his wife; two sons, John Henry Phillips Jr. of Albuquerque, N.M., and Raymond C. E.C. Burchett BORGER - E.C. "Ernie" Burchett, 82, died Monday, June 21, 1999. Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday in Brown Funeral Directors Chapel of the Fountains with the Rev. Merrill Silvey officiating. Burial will be in Westlawn Cemetery. Mr. Burchett was born in Stambaugh, Ky., and had been a Borger resident for 49 years. He retired as a photographer from Phillips Petroleum Co., where he had worked for 30 years. He was an Air Force veteran of World War II and a member of Abundant Life Fellowship. He was preceded in death by his wife, Emilou "Sue" on January 27. Survivors include a daughter, Peggy Waldrop of Borger; a son, Gary Burchett of Valley View; four sisters, Grace Caudill of Kilburn, Ohio, Angeline Dearing of Columbus, Ohio, Mae Baldwin of Delaware, Ohio, and Gusta Bevins of Louisa, Ky.; six granddaughters; and four great-grandchildren. Sharon Rae Dougherty SHAMROCK - Sharon Rae Dougherty, 44, died Monday, June 21, 1999. Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in Calvary Christian Fellowship Church with Joe G. Jernigan, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Shamrock Cemetery by Wright Funeral Directors of Shamrock. Mrs. Dougherty was born in Shamrock where she lived most of her life. She attended Amarillo College School of Nursing and received her nurse's degree in 1989. For the past five years, Mrs. Dougherty worked for Shamrock General Hospital as a registered nurse. She was a member of Calvary Christian Fellowship Church. She married R.B. Dougherty in 1973 at Wheeler. Mrs. Floyd was born in Corona, N.M., and lived in Childress County for four years before moving to Donley County in 1918. She was the school cafeteria supervisor at Lelia Lake, then at Clarendon schools for 21 years before retiring in 1973. She was a member of First Baptist Church. She married Ferral Almon Floyd in 1935 at Lelia Lake. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1984 and by a son, Eddie Floyd, in 1991. Survivors include a daughter, Mollie Moffit of Memphis; a sister, Bessie Reynolds of Amarillo; six grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. Cecil Matthews CLARENDON - Cecil Matthews, 75, of Howardwick, died Sunday, June 20, 1999. Services will be at 2 p.m. today in First Baptist Church of Howardwick with the Rev. Jim Powell, pastor, officiating. Burial with Masonic rites will be at 4 p.m. in Memorial Park Cemetery in Amarillo by Robertson Funeral Directors of Clarendon. Mr. Matthews was born in King Mills, Ohio, and lived in Amarillo before moving to Howardwick in 1975. He was a World War II veteran of the Army. In 1986, he retired from Pantex in Amarillo. Mr. Matthews was a long-time member of the Howardwick Volunteer Fire Department, a member of Clarendon Masonic Lodge No. 700 and Order of Eastern Star Clarendon Chapter No. 6. He also was a member of First Baptist Church in Howardwick. He married Mary Frances Burton in 1946 at King Mills. Survivors include his wife; a son, Dennis Matthews of Tecumseh, Kan.; a sister, Myrtle Slayhack of Cincinnati; two grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. W.P. Isom FRITCH - W.P. "Pete" Isom, 81, died Monday, June 21, 1999. Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in Bible Baptist Church with the Rev. Leonard Forsythe, pastor, officiating. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in Isom Cemetery in Denison by Minton / Chatwell Funeral Directors of Borger. Mr. Isom was born in Denison and had been an area resident since 1941. He was a business representative for Local Union 897 and was a Baptist. For more than 10 years, he was a member of Hutchinson County Sheriff's Association. He married Bessie M. Coker in 1938 at Denison. She died in 1990. Mrs. Pitmon was born in Clarendon, Texas, and moved to Texico as a child. She moved to Levelland, Texas, in 1970. In 1998, she moved to Alamogordo. She had been the Woman's Page Editor and feature writer for the Stateline Tribune at Farwell, Texas, where she received many awards. She was a longtime dorm mother at South Plains Junior College at Levelland and had been a member of College Avenue Baptist Church of Levelland. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Jim Moss; her second husband, Doyel Pitmon; and a son, Jimmy Don Moss. Mrs. Taylor was born in Barney, N.M., and was a longtime resident of Clayton. She and her husband owned and operated the Spic-n-Span Dry Cleaners for many years. She closed the dry cleaners and worked for Clayton Public Schools until her retirement. She was a member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church. She married Lloyd L. Taylor in 1935. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1957 and an infant son, Joseph Taylor. Mrs. White was born in Vernon, Texas. After her marriage, she lived in Dumas, Texas for 40 years then moved to Guymon. In 1990, she moved to Perryton. She was a homemaker and member of Perryton Jehovah's Witnesses. She married Glenn White in 1929 at Sayre. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1995 and by two sons, Kenneth and Tim White. Fielding Funeral Home at Covington, La. Mr. Egleson was born and raised in Amarillo and graduated from Amarillo High School in 1952. While in high school, he was captain of the Sandie football team. He graduated from the University of Texas at Austin. He had retired from J. McDermott Co., an offshore drilling company, where he was a comptroller. Survivors include his wife, Grace; a son, Kelly Egleson of Mandeville; a daughter, Holly of Mandeville; a sister, Mrs. James (Pat) Barker of McLean; and five grandchildren. Mrs. Rex-Coulson was born in Perryton and lived in Spearman, Canadian, Pampa and Amarillo before moving to Springfield in 1985. She was employed as a cashier in retail stores. She married James "Jim" Coulson in 1995 at Springfield. Arrangements are by Rix Funeral Directors. Mrs. Masterson was born in Taylor County, Ark., and graduated from Texas Tech University. For many years, she owned and operated the F Cross Ranch near Paducah prior to selling it to the 6666 ranch. She was involved in obtaining water lines for rural Cottle, Knox and King counties. Mrs. Masterson was a member of Ranching Heritage Association and donated a bunkhouse to the center. She managed investments in the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex, Lubbock and Natchez. She was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church, the Daughters of the American Revolution, the First Families of Mississippi, the Natchez Historical Society, the Pilgrimage Garden Club and the Museum Association of Texas Tech University. She married Thomas B. Masterson Jr. in 1938. He died in 1953. Survivors include two brothers, Dr. John M. Taylor of Natchez and E.E. Taylor Sr. of Ferriday, La.; three nieces; and five nephews. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Mrs. Hamby was born in Nazareth. A registered nurse, she graduated from St. Anthony's School of Nursing in 1942 and was an industrial nurse in Amarillo. She served as first lieutenant in the Army Nurse Corps in northern France and Germany. In 1946, Mrs. Hamby was head nurse on the surgical floor at St. Anthony's Hospital, then was a school nurse. She also was a public health nurse for Potter County. She was a school nurse in Dumas, a nurse for Proctor and Gamble in Amarillo and then was head nurse for Mason and Hanger Corp., from 1957 until her retirement in 1993. Mrs. Hamby was listed in Who's Who of the Southwest. She was founder, member and program chairperson for the Southwest Occupational Workshop in 1974 and member of the health career commission in Amarillo. She was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 1475, active with the Boy Scouts of America, member of Certified American Board of Occupational Health Nurses, Amarillo Nurses Association, American Association of Occupational Health Nurses, Business and Professional Women's Club, the American Defense Preparedness Association and St. Hyacinth's Catholic Church. She married Pat E. Hamby in 1946. He died in 1990. Survivors include two daughters, Cynthia C. Just of Davie, Fla., and Danette M. Green of Covington, Wash.; her mother, Cecelia Frazier of Amarillo; a sister, Viola Jakim of Lima, Ohio; and four grandchildren. James Owens James "Fred" Owens, 86, of Amarillo, died Monday, June 21, 1999. Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday in Memory Gardens Cemetery with the Rev. Bill Fitzgerald officiating. He was a truck driver for Merchants Motor Freight and was of the Baptist faith. He was preceded in death by a son, Bobby Owens, in 1984. Survivors include a son, Kenny Owens of Dodge City, Kan.; three daughters, Joyce Wilson, Ann Thomas and Glenda Webb, all of Amarillo; a sister, Esta Reel of Longview; 17 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren. The family suggests memorials be to Baptist St. Anthony's Hospice and Life Enrichment Center. Steve Vatole Steve Vatole, 42, of Amarillo, died Monday, June 21, 1999. Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in Memorial Park Funeral Home, Chapel of Memories, 6969 E. Interstate 40, with Phil Mercado, pastor of Trinity Fellowship Church, officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Mr. Vatole was born in Alton, Ill., and attended school in Sterling, Colo. In 1976, he moved to Amarillo from California. He was a member of River Rats Offroaders and attended Trinity Fellowship. He was employed for six years by Red Parker Farms in Dalhart. Survivors include his former wife, Ranea Vatole of Algona, Iowa; a son, Chris Kimbrell of Amarillo; a daughter, Tara Vatole of Algona; his mother and stepfather, June and Dean London; two halfsisters; and a half-brother. Viewing will be this morning at the funeral home. The family suggests memorials be to PASO (Panhandle AIDS Support Organization) or Make a Wish Foundation.
