He married Linda Walker in 1990 at Amarillo. Survivors include his wife; a son, Bobby John Sanders of Amarillo; three daughters, Crystal Ferris of Boise, Idaho, Terri Dawn Sanders of Denver and Heidi Anne Sanders of Amarillo; a stepson, James Glenn Carnagey of Oklahoma City; four stepdaughters, Barbara Bewley and Karen Williams, both of Gainsville, Pamela Mitchell of Floresville and Jeanette Hulse of Amarillo; his mother, Roena Sanders of Sunray; 12 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Mrs. Walton was born in Rhome and lived in Memphis for more than 40 years. She was a homemaker and member of First Baptist Church of Memphis. In 1989, she moved to Amarillo. Aletha Mae Linville Aletha Mac Linville, 88, of Amarillo, died Wednesday, Jan. 20, 1999. Dr. Allen Wiese Dr. Allen Wiese, 73, of Amarillo, died Thursday, Jan. 21, 1999. Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday in Beautiful Savior Lutheran Church, 3500 Bowie with the Rev. Charles Meyer, pastor, officiating. Arrangements are by Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 S. Georgia. Dr. Wiese was born in Evota, Minn. and moved to Amarillo in 1953. He was Professor Emeritus and employed by Texas Agricultural Experiment Station and Agricultural Consulting. He graduated from the University of Minnesota, Department of Agronomy with a bachelors degree in 1949, a master's in 1951, and a doctorate in 1953. He published over 500 papers on Weed Science, edited two books and contributed 10 chapters to other books on the subject. He received numerous awards from 1970 to 1987, including the Agriculture Chemicals Award from West Texas Agricultural Chemicals Institute in 1970, the Distinguished Service Award from Southern Weed Science Society in 1977, the No-Till Educator of the Year Award, granted by No-Till Farmer Magazine in 1978, and the Research Award from the Soil and Crop Science Department, Texas A&M University in 1982. He was in the 1992-1993 edition of "Who's Who in Science and Engineering." Dr. Wiese was a member of the Weed Science Society of America, serving as president of the Southern Weed Science Society in 1974, the American Society of Agronomy, the Crop Science Society of America and the Soil Science Society of America. He married Joan Margaret Hanson in 1948. She died in 1998. He was also preceded in death by a son, David Wiese, in 1988. Arrangements are by Muffley Funeral Home of Clovis. Mr. Skeen was born in Sweetwater, Texas, and moved to Clovis in 1936. He attended West Texas State University on a tennis scholarship, the University of Colorado where he was a member of Sigma Chi, and North Texas State University. Until 1979, Mr. Skeen owned and operated Skeen Dry Cleaners. He was in real estate sales until his retirement. He was a member and past deacon of Central Christian Church. He married Joella "Jody" Shelton in 1949 at Pampa. Survivors include his wife; two sons, Mike Skeen of DeSoto, Texas, and Marc Skeen of Midland; a daughter, Shelley Skeen of Canyon, Texas; and four grandchildren. Johnny Leslie Baugh ODESSA - Johnny Leslie Baugh, 55, formerly of Amarillo, died Friday, Jan. 22, 1999. Graveside services were at 2 p.m. Saturday in Monahans Memorial Cemetery in Monahans. Arrangements were by Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home of Odessa. Mr. Baugh was born in Monahans. He was a law enforcement officer in Liberal, Kan., Guymon, Okla., Amarillo and Shallowater and in security for the Sahara Hotel in Las Vegas. He was an active member of the South Plains Criminal Investigators Association, Texas Police Association and Sheriffs Association of Texas. Mr. Baugh was the KVII Channel 7 "Man in Motion" news reporter in Amarillo from 1969 to 1970. In 1967, he was instrumental as a co-owner in bringing Metropolitan Ambulance Co. to Amarillo from Wichita, Kan. Graveside services will be in Elmhurst Cemetery in Guymon. Mr. Brewer was born in Beckham County, attended school in Hardesty and moved to Sayre in 1941. He was a farmer / stockman and worked construction for six years in Oklahoma, Texas, Wyoming and Idaho before returning to operate the family farm and ranch outside of Hardesty. He married Mary Ellen Miller in 1952. Mr. Whisenhunt was born in Winona and raised in Tyler where he graduated from high school. From 1944 until 1946, he served in World War II with the Navy. After his discharge, he returned to Tyler where he was a millwright. In 1958, Mr. Whisenhunt moved to Tulia where he owned Omer's Restaurant until his retirement in 1984. He was a member of First Baptist Church and the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He married Joyce Kay in 1938 at Winona. For more than 40 years, she was employed at Wells & Wells Insurance Co. Mrs. Smith was a charter member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary and Ex-Students Association. She was a member of First Baptist Church and a former member of the Civil Air Patrol. She married Keith Smith in 1953 at Tucumcari, N.M. He died in 1990. Survivors include a daughter, Ann Husband of Childress; two stepdaughters, Sherrie Clements of Amarillo and Judy Hall of Wellington; a sister, Mary Armstrong of Huffman; four grandsons; four great-grandchildren; four stepgrandchildren; and nine stepgreat-grandchildren. The family suggests memorials be to WHS Ex-Students Scholarship Fund or Wellington Care Center Activity Fund. Warren L. Elver BORGER - Warren L. Elver, 74, died Thursday, Jan. 21, 1999. Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Monday in Highland Park Cemetery with Frank Gordoa, assistant minister of Cornerstone Church, officiating. Arrangements are by Minton / Chatwell Funeral Directors of Borger. Mr. Elver was born in Phillipsburg, Kan., and had been a Borger resident since 1926. During World War II, he served in the Army and was a prisoner of war. He was employed as a painter and was a member of Cornerstone Church. Ray Rangel HEREFORD - Ray Rangel, 46, died Friday, Jan. 22, 1999. Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday in Church of Nazerene with the Rev. Tony De Aquino officiating. He moved to Hereford in 1964 and had worked in the cooler department for Excel Meat Packers in Friona for several years. He married Herminia Valdez in 1974. Survivors include his wife; a son, Ferrel Kellar of Bastrop, Texas; and a sister, Jewell Whatley of Union City, Calif. The family will be at 1205 N.E. 2nd in Dumas. O.D. Speed MEMPHIS - O.D. Speed, 78, died Saturday, Jan. 23, 1999. Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Monday in Travis Baptist Church with the Rev. Phillip Shelton officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery by Memphis Funeral Home. Mr. Speed was born in Hollis, Okla. and had lived in Memphis since 1963. He worked for Donley County Water Department and for the Memphis Water Department and was a well operator for 15 years. He was a member of VFW Post No. 10686 and of Travis Baptist Church. He was a veteran of the Army and served in World War II. He married Ellen Copeland in 1947. Survivors include his wife; two sons, Tommy Speed of Mission and Garvin Speed of Memphis; a sister, Pauline Grant of Springfield, Ore.; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. The body will be available for viewing at the funeral home. Alvin K. Gaines Sr. FRIONA - Alvin K. Gaines, Sr., 77, died Saturday, Jan. 23, 1999. Mr. Gaines was born in Seagraves and moved to Parmer County in 1932 where he was a member of Sixth Street Church of Christ in Friona. He owned and operated a service station for many years, was a past member of Friona Cemetery Association, and of the Loan Committee of Friona Credit Union. He was a veteran of the Army and served during World War II. He married Murlene Horton in 1941. Survivors include his wife; two sons, Kenneth Gaines and Doug Gaines, both of Amarillo; a daughter, Kay Merrell of Friona; two sisters, Dorothy Overstreet of Richardson and Pat Goycoocheaof San Diego, Calif; seven grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
