Services will be at 11 a.m. today in Boxwell Brothers Funeral Home Chapel with Saul Ruvalcaba of Booker officiating. Burial will be in Guadalajara Jalisco, Mexico. Mr. Lopez was born in San Marcos Jalisco, Mexico, and moved to the Perryton area in 1994 from California. He was a laborer. He was a member of Church of the Living God in Booker. Survivors include his wife; a son, Benito Rodriquez of Redondo Beach, Calif.; three daughters, Monica Rodriquez, Ruperta Ramirez, and Alexandra Rodriquez, all of Mexico; and two grandchildren. Mary A. Scoggin MULESHOE - Mary A. Scoggin, 76, died Thursday, June 24, 1999. Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in First United Methodist Church of Muleshoe with the Rev. Brad Reeves, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Lazbuddie Cemetery in Lazbuddie by Ellis Funeral Home of Muleshoe. Mrs. Scoggin was born in Mitchell County and moved to Muleshoe in 1948 from Hope, N.M. A school teacher for most of her life, she taught in Muleshoe schools for 27 years. She was a homemaker and a member of First United Methodist Church. She married W. Lewis Scoggin in 1945 at Melrose, N.M. Survivors include her husband; three sons, Kearney Scoggin of Muleshoe, Verlyon Scoggin of Alamogordo, N.M., and Jerry Scoggin of Las Cruces, N.M.; three sisters, Lola Pearl Smith and Jessie Butler, both of Alamogordo, and Audna Balko of Amarillo; 13 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. The family suggests memorials be to First United Methodist Church of Muleshoe. Virginia Louise Payne CLARENDON - Virginia Louise Payne, 85, died Thursday, June 24, 1999. Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in Robertson Funeral Directors Chapel of Memories with the Rev. James Ivey Edwards, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Citizens Cemetery. Mrs. Payne was born in Paducah, Ky., and moved to Clarendon in 1946. She moved to Amarillo in 1976 and moved to Hereford in January. Mrs. Payne was manager of Murphy Funeral Home in Clarendon from 1953 until her retirement in 1976. She was a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church in Amarillo. She was preceded in death by a son, John Payne, in 1994. Survivors include a sister, Ruth Neal of Amarillo; three grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. Elsewhere Daniel M. Moniz Jr. SULPHUR SPRINGS - Daniel M. "Pineapple" Moniz Jr., 64, died Monday, June 21, 1999. Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. today in St. James Catholic Church by the Rev. Kingsley Nonis. Cremation will follow services by West Oaks Funeral Home. Mr. Moniz was born in Hilo, Hawaii. He graduated from Hilo High School and attended college majoring in engineering and accounting. He moved to Sulphur Springs in 1983. He served in the military for 16 years, serving both in the Marines and Army in Korea, Vietnam and Germany. He was a prisoner of war for 16 months. He was a retired construction consultant and built 650 silos during his career. He was a member of St. James Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus, the AARP and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 8560 at Sulphur Springs. He also had been active with the Boy Scouts of America. Mr. Moniz played professional baseball as a pitcher with the Toyko Giants in Japan. He married Debora Acker in 1982 at Dalhart. Survivors include his wife; four sons, Gary Mayes of Amarillo, Daniel Moniz III of Tulsa, Okla., Chad Lee Moniz of College Station, and Monte Don Moniz of Florida; a daughter, Monica Lynn Rose of Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; a brother, Melvin Moniz of Hilo; two sisters, Ida Smith of Fayetteville, N.C., and Debbie DeMello of Seattle, Wash.; and six grandchildren. Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in Park Row Church of Christ. Burial will be in Moore Memorial Gardens by Arlington Funeral Home of Arlington. Mrs. Minton was born in Amarillo. She was the assistant director of Parkrow Children's Center and a member of Park Row Church of Christ. Survivors include her husband, Michael Minton; two sons, Christopher Minton and Nicholas Minton, both of Arlington; her mother, Opal Serzy of Amarillo; and a brother, Forrest Serzy of Amarillo. Visitation will be from 6 until 8 p.m. today at the funeral home. The family suggests memorials be to the American Cancer Society. Y.B. Thompson LITTLEFIELD - Y.B. "Jumbo" Thompson, 76, died Wednesday, June 23, 1999. Services will be at 2 p.m. today in Hammons Funeral Home Chapel in Littlefield with the Rev. Benny Goss, pastor of Sunset Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Littlefield Memorial Park. Mr. Thompson was born in Cheyenne, Okla., and was a World War II veteran of the Army Air Corps. In the early 1980s, he retired after 35 years in the trucking business. He and his wife then owned and operated Jumbo's Drive-In for 10 years. Mr. Thompson was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars, Odd Fellows and Circle Eight Square Dancers. He also was a member of First Baptist Church of Littlefield. He married Mildred Lyda in 1941 at Clovis, N.M. She died in 1987. Survivors include a son, Gary Thompson of Borger; two daughters, Judith Henderson of Littlefield and Therese Sell of Rochester, Minn.; a brother, Charlie Thompson of Hawthorn, Calif.; nine grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. The family suggests memorials be to the American Lung Association. Amarillo Wanda Nadine Pickrell Wanda Nadine Pickrell, 73, of Amarillo, died Tuesday, June 22, 1999. She was a homemaker and a member of Friendship Baptist Church at Salome, Ariz. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Darwin Clifford Nutter, in 1962. Survivors include her husband, Loyd G. Helen Baker Helen Baker, 99, died Sunday, June 20, 1999, in Amarillo. Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday in Martin Funeral Chapel at Sayre, Okla., with the Rev. Lin Sylvester of First United Methodist Church at Sayre officiating. Burial will be in Delhi Cemetery at Delhi, Okla., by Blackburn-Shaw Funeral Directors, 315 E. Fifth. Mrs. Baker was born in Sulphur, Okla. She married Sheldon S. Baker in 1927 at Sayre. He died in 1932. She was the postmaster in Delhi until retiring in 1972. She was a member of First United Methodist Church at Sayre. Survivors include a daughter, Dena Holland of Amarillo; a son, William Baker of Patterson, La.; three grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and four greatgreat-grandchildren. Keith Hayhurst Keith Hayhurst, 62, of Amarillo, died Thursday, June 24, 1999. Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday in Westminster Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Ron Holmes, associate pastor, and Dr. Murray Gossett, associate pastor of First Presbyterian Church, officiating. Private burial will be on the family ranch by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2820 Virginia Circle. Mr. Hayhurst was born in Wellington and had lived in Amarillo for 50 years where he graduated from Amarillo High School. He owned and operated Texas Sprinkler System for 20 years then, in 1979, became an independent oil and gas operator. Mr. Hayhurst was chairman of Kat Energy. He also was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church. He married Tracy Stewart in 1983 at Amarillo. Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Julie Golladay of Amarillo; two sons, John Hayhurst and James "Goose" Hayhurst, both of Amarillo; a brother, Kenny Hayhurst of Amarillo; three sisters, Carol Pollak of Fort Worth, Gay Passmore of Lewisville and Glenda Schmidt of Albuquerque, N.M.; six grandchildren; and a special friend, Dolly Hayhurst. Cary Eugene Trowbridge Cary Eugene Trowbridge, 81, of Amarillo, died Wednesday, June 23, 1999. In 1967, he retired from civil service at Amarillo Air Force Base. Survivors include his wife, Freda Trowbridge; a son, Mark Trowbridge; two daughters, Diane Meeker and Lou Jean Barker of Greenville, S.C.; a sister, Esthel McCool of Oklahoma City; seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Mrs. Harvey was born in Clarendon and moved to Amarillo in 1938. She was a homemaker and member of Victory Tabernacle. She also attended Northside Assembly of God. She married Ralph W. Harvey in 1938 at Hollis, Okla. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1985 and by a son, Richard Weldon Harvey, in 1974. Mrs. Taylor was born in Weatherford. In 1967, she moved to Amarillo from Lubbock. She was a dietitian who was employed by the Lubbock Independent School District and retired from the Amarillo Independent School District. She was a member of First Baptist Church. She married Robert L. Taylor in 1929 at Seymour. He died in 1991. Survivors include two sons, Arthur L. Taylor of Amarillo and Jack R. She was preceded in death by her husband, James Henry Sebastian, in 1992. Survivors include a sister of Hawaii. Oklahoma Bertha Orletha Hale GUYMON, Okla. - Bertha Orletha Hale, 82, of Shattuck, died Wednesday, June 23, 1999. Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in Henson-Novak Funeral Home Chapel in Guymon. Burial will be in Goodwell Cemetery. Mrs. Hale was born in Goodwell and attended Hardesty schools. With her family, she lived in Guymon and Goodwell where she was a telephone operator for 10 years. She also worked in the cafeteria at Panhandle State University and was a member of First Christian Church of Guymon. She married Robert L. Hale in 1934 at Guymon. He died in 1984. She also was preceded in death by a daughter, Robbie Keenan. Survivors include three sons, David Hale of Cordell, Aaron Hale of Columbia, S.C., and Bruce Hale of Hugoton, Kan.; a sister, Mona B. Driscoll of Spearman, Texas; and six grandchildren. A Bertha Hale Memorial has been established for the American Cancer Society.
