Boyd Dr. William E. Boyd, 80, of Amarillo, died Saturday, May 22, 1999. Services will be at 4 p.m. Thursday at Southwest Baptist Church with the Rev. Keith Boutwell, chaplain of Baptist St. Anthony's Hospice, officiating. Arrangements are by Rector Funeral Home, 2800 S. Osage St. Dr. Boyd was born in Ivanhoe. He was an Army veteran and belonged to the 82nd Field Artillery, Battery B. Calvary Division from 1936-1939. Dr. Boyd graduated in 1946 from Texas Chiropractic College in San Antonio as the first blind graduate. He started his practice in Dumas. He then moved to central Texas, where he practiced for a short time before moving back to San Antonio for a year of post-graduate work. He moved to Amarillo 47 years ago, where he practiced until 1998. Dr. Boyd was a member of the American Chiropractic Association and the Lions Club for more than 20 years, and was nominated in 1998 for the Most Successful Disabled Veteran Businessman. He read more than 10,000 books from the United States Congress, Library for the Blind. He married Ann Evans Fleetwood in 1971 at Carlsbad, N.M. Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Diana Lynn Horton of Amarillo; a son, Keith Boyd of Amarillo; two stepdaughters, Judy Herring of Wills Point and Joann Roberson of Amarillo; a stepson, Dr. Terry Fleetwood of Amarillo; a sister, Hermia Murphy of Irving; eight brothers, Dr. Bruce Boyd of Denver City, Wayne Boyd of Austin, Dr. Joe T. Boyd of Big Spring, Lewis "Bud" Boyd of Lubbock, James "Heavy" Boyd of Pipe Creek, Dalton Boyd of Mesquite, Jerry Boyd of Mexia and Dr. Dayton Boyd of Abernathy; nine grandchildren; and nine greatgrandchildren. Anatomical donation was to Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center in Lubbock. The family will be at 7402 Baughman. Eula Rachel Curd Eula Rachel Curd, 100, of Richland Hills and a former Amarillo resident, died Tuesday, May 25, 1999. Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday in N.S. Griggs & Sons Funeral Directors, Pioneer Chapel, 2615 Paramount Blvd. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in Rowe Cemetery in Hedley. Miss Curd was born and raised in Hedley. She lived in Amarillo for most of her adult life until moving to Richland Hills in 1996. For more than 20 years, Miss Curd was employed as a cook for Northwest Texas Hospital. She was a member of San Jacinto United Methodist Church. Survivors include two nephews, Raymond Bailey of Hurst and Cordell Green of Lubbock; and two nieces, Ann Reckling of Fort Worth and Melba Bench of Las Vegas. The family suggests memorials be to San Jacinto United Methodist Church. Faye Elaine Philips Boyd Faye Elaine Philips Boyd, 57, of Amarillo, died Monday, May 24, 1999. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in Llano East Cemetery with the Rev. Barry Loving, associate minister of First Christian Church in Pampa, officiating. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2820 Virginia Circle. Mrs. Boyd was born in Seymour and had lived in Amarillo for most of her life. She was a hairdresser and member of First Christian Church of Pampa. Survivors include four sons, Jody Gamblin and Jay Gamblin, both of Amarillo, Tom Gamblin of Dallas and Coby Gamblin of Clovis, N.M.; a sister, Martha Boyd of Pampa; a brother, Robert Phillips of Amarillo; eight grandchildren; and a great-grandson. Mrs. Mills was born in Mineola and attended public schools in Quitman. She was a former member of New Hope Baptist Church. Upon moving to Canyon, she became a member of Calvary Baptist Church. She was a homemaker. She married J.D. Mills in Amarillo. She was preceded in death by her husband. Survivors include a brother, Floyd Miller of Houston; a sister, Jennie V. Haley of Houston; and nephew, Charles Haley of Canyon. Oklahoma Arizona Marie Jackson CALERA, Okla., - Arizona Marie Jackson, 85, died Monday, May 24, 1999. Services will be at 2 p.m. today in New Life Assembly with the Rev. David Sanders officiating. Burial will be in Platter Cemetery by Coffey Funeral Home of Durant. Mrs. Jackson was born in Durant. A homemaker, she moved to Calera from Amarillo in 1995. She also had lived in Happy Jack, Ariz., where she cooked for lumberjacks. In Salem, Ore., she was a nurse's aide for a state mental hospital. Mrs. Jackson attended the New Life Assembly of God Church in Calera. She married Arnes Lee Jackson in 1928 in Durant. He died in 1996. Survivors include a son, Arnes L. Jackson of Amarillo; two daughters, Marquitta Elliot of Calera and Sandra Hutchens of Amarillo; a brother, Jesse Jackson; two sisters, Betty Brewer of Durant and Missie Shipman of Amarillo; 14 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and nine great-great grandchildren. Elsewhere Jennifer Hart Tidwell LUBBOCK - Jennifer Hart Tidwell, 25, of Lubbock formerly of Gruver, died Saturday, May 22, 1999. Burial will be in Gruver Cemetery by Bunch-Roberts Funeral Home of Guymon. Mrs. Tidwell was born in Spearman. She graduated from Gruver High School in 1991. She received her bachelor's degree in accounting from Texas Tech University. She was a member of the United Methodist Church and Alpha Phi. She married Crockett Tidwell in 1995 in Canyon. They moved to Lubbock earlier this year. Survivors include her husband; her mother, Brenda Hart of Dumas; her father, Jerry Hart, and his wife, Christy of Morse; three sisters, Janyth Hart of Amarillo, Tonya Hart and Trudy Hart both of Morse; a brother Haden Hart of Morse; grandparents, Ila Jo Hart of Gruver; and Jack and Bobbie Hart of Amarillo. Donald Grandberry officiating. Burial was in San Jacinto Memorial Park. Mrs. Spradlin was born in Shamrock. Survivors include two sons, Kenneth Roberts of New Caney and Tommy Spradlin of Houston; a daughter, Debrina Hogue of Houston; 12 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. The family requests memorials be to the Lupus Foundation in Mrs. Spradlin's name. Mary Joyce Freeman LUBBOCK - Mary Joyce Freeman, 69, died Tuesday, May 25, 1999. Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in Lubbock Primitive Baptist Church with George Johnson and Gary Flinn officiating. Burial will be in Abernathy Cemetery by Chapel of Angels of Lubbock. Mrs. Freeman was born in Lubbock County and attended school at Caldwell and Monroe. She graduated from New Deal High School in 1947 and from Texas Tech in 1952 with a bachelor's degree in Home Economics. She later earned certification in math from Angelo State University and a reading specialist endorsement from Sul Ross State University. She was a retired teacher and a member of Lubbock Primitive Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, John Garlon Freeman. Survivors include three sons, Dale Freeman of Abilene, Leon Freeman of Lohn and Jesse Freeman of Lubbock; a stepdaughter, Jennifer Priestley of Plymouth, Minn.; a brother, W.R. "Randell" Flinn of Abernathy; three sisters, Vee Flinn and Wilda Myers, both of Lubbock and Donnell King of Atlanta, Texas; and 10 grandchildren. The family suggests that memorials be to the Lubbock Primitive Baptist Church, American Cancer Society or Hospice of Lubbock. Barbara K. Dietz KINGSPORT, Tenn. - Barbara K. Dietz, 53, died Tuesday, May 25, 1999. Memorial services will be at 7 p.m. Friday in Colonial Heights United Methodist Church with the Rev. Freddrick L. Long and the Rev. Judith W. Long officiating. Arrangements are by Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home of Kingsport. Mrs. Dietz was a member of Colonial Heights United Methodist Church. She was president of the Women's Basketball Hall of Fame project. When it is completed, the boardroom will be named in her honor. Mrs. Dietz was the first woman president and CEO of Minifibers, Inc. She actively supported the Boys and Girls Clubs, Boy Scouts of America, Holston Valley Hospital Foundation, Roane County Chamber of Commerce and the East Tennessee State University Foundation. Survivors include her husband, Jose F. Flores; three sons, Richard Dietz II and Michael Dietz, both of Johnson City, and Stephen Dietz of Knoxville; her parents, James and Ruby Johnson of Amarillo; two sisters, Geneva Phelan of Pasadena, Texas and Betty Jennings of Abilene, Texas; and four grandchildren. Thelma Struve Williams ABILENE - Thelma Struve Williams, 83, died Tuesday, May 18, 1999. Services will be at 1 p.m. Friday in Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home Chapel of Memories in Abilene with Don Cauble, retired chaplain, officiating. Burial will be in Elmwood Memorial Park. Mrs. Williams was born in Plainview and graduated from Olton High School in 1934. In 1980, she retired after 16 years as a dorm supervisor at Abilene State School. She was a member of Northwest Church of Christ and a former member of Palm Street Church of Christ. She was a volunteer for Rose Park and a retired volunteer for the income tax program. Her first marriage was to James Belton "J.B." Williams in 1934. Her second marriage was in 1987 to Louis Spratlen who died in 1994. Survivors include five children, Yvonda Keeter of El Paso, Laverne Foy of Sweetwater, Jean "P.J." Lemons of Amarillo, Lynn C. "Rocky" Williams of Maxwell and Leland "Lee" R. Williams of Olympia, Wash.; a sister, Bertha Grant of Scottsdale, Ariz.; a brother, W.V. "Bill" Struve of Hereford; 14 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. New Mexico Polly Sue Riviers CLOVIS, N.M. - Polly Sue Riviers, 34, died Friday, May 21, 1999. Memorial services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday in The Chapel with the Rev. Skip Clark officiating. Cremation and arrangements are by Muffley Funeral Home, 1500 Thornton, Mrs. Riviers was born in Clovis where she was a lifetime resident. She was a nurse's aid in several nursing homes. She worked for the Clovis Municipal School at Cameo Elementary School and in the cafeteria at Gattis Junior High School. Mrs. Riviers was a parent volunteer at Cameo Elementary School. She was a member of Woodmen of the World Lodge 41, assistant den leader for Boy Scout Pack 405 and a member of the Boy Scout Council of Clovis. Survivors include her son, Christopher Riviers of the home; her parents, Thomas and Ester Riviers of Clovis; three sisters, Anita Riviers of Clovis, Julie Riviers Wiess of St. Louis and Michelle Chandler of Landcaster, Calif.; and a grandmother, Martha Rodriquez of Clovis. William Pierce CLOVIS, N.M. - William "Billy" Pierce, 29, died Saturday, May 22, 1999. Rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. today in Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Community. Mass will be at 10 a.m. Thursday in Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Community with the Rev. Carlos Chavez officiating. Burial will be in Mission Garden of Memories by Muffley Funeral Home of Clovis. Mr. Pierce was born in Lubbock, Texas and moved to Clovis in 1985. He was a construction worker and of the Catholic faith. He married Barbara Chavez in 1993 at Clovis. She preceded him in death. Survivors include his mother, Eloisa Perez of Clovis; four sisters, Mari Beachum, Jessica Barron, Irene Sigala and Herlinda Perez, all of Clovis; and his grandparents, Juan and Eulalia Vega of Clovis. Asa Herman Noack CLOVIS, N.M. - Asa Herman Noack, 76, died Monday, May 24, 1999. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in Lawn Haven Memorial Gardens with the Rev. Scott Blazek officiating. Arrangements are by Muffley Funeral Home of Clovis. Mr. Noack was born in Giddings, Texas and was a longtime resident of Clovis and Farwell. For 42 years, he worked in auto body repair including 33 years with Clovis Body Shop. He was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church-LCMS. He married Joyce Holder in 1951 at Colbert, Okla. Survivors include his wife; two sons, Carl Walter Noack of Ellenton, Fla., and Harold Asa Noack of Clovis; a daughter, Deborah Marie Sharrar of Clovis; a brother, Elbert Fred Noack of Clovis; 10 grandchildren. The family suggests memorials be to a favorite charity. Area Mozelle H. Neill HEREFORD - Mozelle H. Neill, 91, died Tuesday, May 25, 1999. Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in First Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Jeremy Grant, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in West Park Cemetery by Gililland-Watson Funeral Home of Hereford. Mrs. Neill was born in Merkel and moved to Deaf Smith County in 1910. She received her master's degree in English from West Texas State College. For 23 years, she taught high school English in Hereford. Mrs. Neill was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Hereford Music Club, LaPlata Study Club and several bridge clubs. She married Jim Neill in 1930 at Clovis, N.M. He died in 1980. Survivors include a brother, O.G. Hill Jr., of Amarillo and several nieces and nephews. The family suggests memorials be to First Presbyterian Church of Hereford. Murl Benge PAMPA - Murl Benge, 68, died Monday, May 24, 1999. Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday in Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors Colonial Chapel with the Rev. Dale Dunn, pastor of Lamount Drive Baptist Church of Amarillo, officiating. Burial will be in Miami Cemetery. Mr. Benge was born in Chickasha, Okla., and in 1936 moved to Miami, where he graduated from Miami High School. He was an equipment operator for Coastal Corp. for 27 years and a former member of the Miami School Board. He was also a member of First Baptist Church and of the American Legion for more than 40 years. He married Inez Bryant in 1961 at Miami. Survivors include his wife; three daughters, Marla Jackson and Jodie Adams, both of Miami and Kara Benge of Denver, N.C.; a son, Brian Benge of Amarillo; a twin brother, Burl Benge of Canadian; four grandchildren. The family suggests memorials be to the American Legion Pulaski Post No. 106 in Miami. Edward Baca BORGER - Edward Baca, 70, died Tuesday, May 25, 1999. No services are scheduled at this time. Arrangements are by Minton / Chatwell Funeral Directors of Borger. Mr. Baca was born in Colfax County, N.M., and had been a Borger resident for 22 years. He moved to Borger from Denver. He was a jockey and horse trainer who was licensed by the New Mexico Racing Commission. Mr. Baca also was foreman for E.D. Baker Co. He was a Protestant. He married Dollie Thomas in 1977 at Borger. Survivors include his wife, a son, two stepsons, six daughters, three stepdaughters, a brother, a sister and several grandchildren. The family suggests memorials be to Hospice of Panhandle, 300 S. McGee, Borger, TX. Jim Hathaway MCLEAN - Jim Hathaway, 90, died Friday, May 21, 1999. Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday in Hillcrest Cemetery with Jim Reyna officiating. Arrangements are by Lamb Funeral Home of McLean. Mr. Hathaway was born in Mobeetie. He was a Navy veteran of World War II where he served with the SeeBees in the Pacific Theater. For 30 years, he was a rural mail carrier for more than 30 years and a carpenter. He was involved in civic affairs, including serving on the school board. He was a member of the Church of Christ and a life member of the Lions Club. Survivors include a son, Dwight Hathaway, of Quitman and two grandsons. The family suggests memorials be to Cal Farley's Boys Ranch. Patsy Ann Hackney BORGER - Patsy Ann Hackney, 65, died Monday, May 24, 1999. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday in First Baptist Church Chapel with the Rev. Gregg Simmons, pastor, officiating. Burial will be at 4:30 p.m. Thursday in Roosevelt Cemetery in Roosevelt, Okla. Arrangements are by Brown Funeral Directors of Borger. Mrs. Hackney was a native of Pampa and a Borger resident for 16 years. She was a homemaker and member of First Baptist Church. She married Gerald L. Hackney in 1951 at Oklahoma City. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Theresa Jo Hackney, in 1994. Survivors include her husband; two sons, Randy Hackney and Larry Hackney, both of Wichita, Kan.; a sister, Laura Ellen Brown of El Reno, Okla.; and seven grandchildren. Loreta Howard OLTON - Loreta Howard, 87, died Monday, May 24, 1999. Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in First United Methodist Church with Donald Sikes and the Rev. Norman Patton, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Olton Cemetery by Foskey-Lilley-McGill Funeral Directors in Olton. Mrs. Howard was born in Erick, Okla., and moved to Olton from Amarillo in 1943. She was a member of the Olton Study Club and First United Methodist Church. She married L.W. "Doc" Howard in 1927 at Wellington. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1983 and by a daughter, Retta Snider, in 1990. Survivors include a son, Charles Howard of Rogers, Ark.; four daughters, Sue Cannon of Olton, Joyce Hoover of Georgetown, Belva Sikes of Ransom Canyon and Kay Gallion of Lubbock; 22 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. Henry Warner Bensel PAMPA - Henry Warner "Hank" Bensel, 78, died Tuesday, May 25, 1999. Memorial services will be at 4 p.m. Friday in Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors Colonial Chapel with the Rev. Robert Bailey of the Assembly of God Church in Hugoton, Kan., officiating. Mr. Bensel was born in Saratoga, N.Y., and had been a longtime resident of Pampa. During World War II, he served in the Army Air Corps. He was a member of the Moose Lodge and Pampa Bowling League. Survivors include a son, Harry Warner Bensel of Hugoton; a sister, Ruth Pierce of Binghamton, N.Y.; and three grandchildren. The body was cremated and will not be available for viewing.
