Harris WELLINGTON - R.F. Harris, 79, died Thursday, June 24, 1999. Services were at 2 p.m. Saturday in First Baptist Church with Joe Martin, the Rev. Jim Ikner, pastor of Church of the Nazarene, and Sandi Seale, granddaughter, officiating. Burial was in Northview Cemetery by Adams Funeral Home. Mr. Harris was born in Bomarton and as a young child, moved to Childress, where he attended school. From 1946 until 1952, he farmed in the Tell community and moved to Swearingen community, where he managed the HD Ranch. In 1985, Mr. Harris retired and moved into Wellington. He was a member of First Baptist Church. He married Joyce Bryant in 1938 at Childress. Survivors include his wife; three sons, Glenn Harris of Colorado City, Joe Harris of Wellington and Ted Harris of Crowell; a daughter, Sue Skelton of Wellington; eight grandchildren; seven step-grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and six step-great-grandchildren. The family suggests memorials be to Wellington Cemetery Association, Crown of Texas Hospice or First Baptist Church. Nena D. Caudle PLAINVIEW - Nena D. Caudle, 85, of Lubbock, died Thursday, June 24, 1999. Services were at 11 a.m. Saturday in First Baptist Church Chapel with Dr. Cleve Haley, pastor of Oakwood Baptist Church in Lubbock, officiating. Burial was in Hale Center Cemetery by Lemons Funeral Home. Mrs. Caudle was born in Frost where she grew up and graduated from high school. She attended college for two-anda-half years, then moved to Dallas. In 1940, she moved to Hale Center, where she and her husband were in the ginning business. In 1942, the Caudles moved to Halfway, then to Plainview in 1952. They were in partnership in the West Side Gin and later the 400 Gin. They moved to Dallas in 1969 then returned to Lubbock in 1982. Mrs. Caudle was a member of the Plainview Altrusa Study Club, Lubbock Christian Women's Club and Oakwood Baptist Church. At the church, she taught Sunday School, worked with the Sunbeams and GAs, and was president of the Women's Missionary Union for two years. She married Robert Caudle in 1940 at Dallas. He died in 1991. Survivors include two daughters, Linda Kay Ehle of Greeley, Colo., and Betty Horan of Plainview; a brother, John Downey of Halfway; four grandsons; and six great-grandchildren. The family suggests memorials be to Wayland Baptist University; or the Alzheimer's Association. Jessie Ruth Lewis Evans FLOYDADA - Jessie Ruth Lewis Evans, 87, died Saturday, June 26, 1999. Services will be at 2 p.m. in MooreRose-White Funeral Home Memorial Chapel with Doug Rainbolt, pastor of City Park Church of Christ, officiating. Burial will be in Floydada Cemetery. Mrs. Evans was born in Chalk and attended schools in Paducah, where she graduated from high school. In 1954, she moved from Batesville to Floydada, where she owned and operated Westside Trailer Park until her retirement. She was a member of City Park Church of Christ. She married Earl Evans in 1931 at Paducah. He died in 1967. She married Neil Webb in 1982. He died in 1997. Survivors include a son, Nelson Evans of Bryan; a brother, R.B. Lewis of Hughes Springs; a grandchild; and two great-grandchildren. Visitation will be from 7 p.m. until 8 p.m. today at the funeral home. Rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. both today and Monday in the CCU Building. Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday in Holy Family Catholic Church with Jerry Steine, Monsignor Harold Waldo and Deacon Jerone Brockman officiating. Burial will be in Holy Family Cemetery by Foskey-Lilley-McGill Funeral Home. Mrs. Steffens was born in Nazareth, where she graduated from high school in 1947. She was a member of the Catholic Daughters of America, Nazareth Senior Citizens, Holy Family Catholic Church and was activity director at Canterbury Villa in Dimmitt for 11 years. She married Ralph Steffens in 1955 at Nazareth. He died in 1973. Survivors include four daughters, Janey Anderson, Judy Brax, Rosemary Steffens and Barbara Dennis, all of Amarillo; three sons, John Steffens of Van Alstyne, Edward Steffens of Nazareth and Billy Steffens of Hereford; four brothers, Jerone Brockman and Cyril Brockman, both of Nazareth, Tom Brockman of Friona and Phillip Brockman of Lazbuddie; two sisters, Rita Book of Bluffton and Irene Wilhelm of Nazareth; and 15 grandchildren. Burial will be in Vigo Park Cemetery by Wallace Funeral Home of Tulia. Mr. Henderson was born in Pep, N.M., and attended schools in Weed, N.M., and Portales, N.M. He moved to Tulia in 1964 and to Vigo Park in 1968. He was a farmer and worked for Swisher County as a heavy equipment operator for 10 years. He was a member of Vigo Park Baptist Church. He married Thelma Ila Mae Bethel in 1948. She died in 1959. He married Frances Green in 1964 at Portales. Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Vicki Ellis of Dumas and Charl Green of Amarillo; two sons, Clinton Henderson of Vigo Park and Jimmy Green of Amarillo; a brother, Doyle Henderson of Tatum, N.M.; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Marylu Markham ALLISON - Marylu Markham, 81, died Friday, June 25, 1999. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. today in Zybach Cemetery with the Rev. Robert Meller, pastor of First Baptist Church, officiating. Arrangements are by Wright Funeral Home of Wheeler. Mrs. Markham was born in Coryell County. She was a homemaker and worked for Pantex in Amarillo until 1945 before she moved to Allison to farm and ranch. She was a member of First Baptist Church and a 50-year member of the Order of Eastern Star. She married Clyde Robert "Bob" Markham, in 1943 at Amarillo. He died in February. She was also preceded in death by two sons, Jay Markham and George Markham. Survivors include a daughter, Clydene Hall of Allison; a sister, Cleone Fulford of Fluvanna; four brothers, Wesley Kinsey of Robert Lee, Melvin Kinsey of Stephenville, Arvin Kinsey of Williston, N.D., and Marvin Kinsey of Plano; six grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. The family suggests memorials be to a favorite charity. Modene Tremble DUMAS - Modene Tremble, 81, died Saturday, June 26, 1999. Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Monday in Dumas Cemetery with Dr. Vince Kolb, pastor of First Presbyterian Church, officiating. Arrangements are by Morrison Funeral Directors. Mrs. Tremble was born in Oklahoma and moved to Dumas in 1950 from Perryton. She retired as a secretary for Dumas Independent School District and was a member of First Christian Church. Her husband, Al Tremble, died in 1988. Her daughter, Diane Goddard, died in 1980. Survivors include a son, Al Tremble III of Dumas; three grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Erwin Nieman MULESHOE - Erwin Nieman, 81, died Friday, June 25, 1999. Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday in Trinity Baptist Church with the Revs. Robert Brown, pastor, and J. Dean McNamara, chaplain of Vista Care Family Hospice of Plainview, officiating. Burial will be in Muleshoe Memorial Park Cemetery by Ellis Funeral Home. Mr. Nieman was born in Lynn County and moved to Muleshoe in 1948 from Wilson. He was a farmer and served with the Army during World War II. He attended Trinity Baptist Church in Muleshoe and was a member of St. Martin Lutheran Church in Littlefield. He married Mildred Clevenger in 1968. She died in 1991. He married Thora Baker in 1996 at Muleshoe. Survivors include his wife; two sons, Connie Clevenger of Aztec, N.M., and Curtis Clevenger of Floydada; a daughter, Judy Moore of Muleshoe; two stepsons, Roy Baker of Portales, N.M., and Larry Baker of Greenville; a stepdaughter, Alice Moffitt of Borger; a brother, Marvin Nieman of Muleshoe; 14 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. The family suggests memorials be to a favorite charity. Oklahoma Blanche Mary Day BEAVER, Okla. - Blanche Mary Day, 88, died Wednesday, June 23, 1999. Services were at 2 p.m. Saturday in Beaver Presbyterian Church with Bill Moore officiating. Burial was in Pioneer Cemetery by Clark Funeral Service. Mrs. Day was born in Anthony, Kan. She graduated from high school and attended three years of college. For many years, she was a teacher and secretary at the Beaver schools. She was a 50-year member of Order of Eastern Star, a member of the Missionary Society, the Retired Teachers Association and the Beaver Garden Club. She married Julius Nelson Day in 1936 at Forgan. He died in 1966. Survivors include a daughter, Pamela Kay Muller of Jenks; a sister, Virginia Correll of Satana, Kan.; and a grandchild. Elsewhere Joan Parsons LANCASTER, Pa. - Joan Parsons, 73, formerly of Amarillo, died Thursday, May 27, 1999. Memorial services were held Saturday, May 30, in Willow Valley Lakes Manor in Willow Street, Pa., with John Smith, pastor of Grace Brethren Church, officiating. Cremation and memorial arrangements were by Cremation Society of Pennsylvania. Miss Parsons was born in Tulia, Texas, and graduated from Amarillo High School in 1943. She excelled in mathematics and was inducted into the National Honor Society in 1940. She was employed as a secretary for Western Union, Cotton Belt Railroad, Southside Church of Christ and Northwest School of Nursing in Amarillo. In 1969, Miss Parsons moved to Anchorage, Alaska, where she was employed by the Defense Mapping Agency at Elmendorf Air Force Base until her transfer to the base finance office. She joined the Air Force Office of Special Investigations (OSI) in 1979. Miss Parsons moved to London, England, and worked for the OSI at Uxbridge Royal Air Force Base. Her final assignment was at Ankara Air Force Base in Turkey. During her career, she received numerous honors and decorations. She retired after 20 years of service and moved to Lancaster. Survivors include two sisters, Hattie McCain of Lompoc, Calif., and Jereen Rugis of Lancaster; and a brother, Ernest Parsons of Amarillo. Short, 68, died Friday, June 25, 1999. Graveside services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday in Resthaven Memorial Park with Richard Grubbs, pastor, officiating. Arrangements are by Resthaven Funeral Home of Lubbock. Mr. Short was born in Paris, Texas, and moved to Lubbock in 1966 from Amarillo. He was an Army veteran of the Korean War. From 1983 until 1984, he served as president of the Monterey Baseball Booster Club and was a retired member of Lubbocks Lion Club. In 1961, Mr. Short started in the insurance business as an adjuster with the Floyd Weston Co. He was transferred to Lubbock in 1966 and worked for Reed and Co., and as an agent for Jack Wright Insurance. In 1974, he became an independent insurance agent, starting the Charles Short Agency. He was a member of the Independent Insurance Agents of Lubbock. Survivors include a daughter, Karen Kalogero of Sacramento, Calif.; two sons, Kyle Short and Kevin Short, both of Lubbock; his mother, Paralee Short of Amarillo; two sisters, Evelyn Foster of Amarillo and Mary Noland of Dallas; and four grandchildren. The family suggests memorials be to any neonatal unit. Evelyn Stewart ABILENE - Evelyn Stewart, 69, died Friday, June 25, 1999. Burial will be in Dewey Cemetery by ElliottHamil Funeral Home of Abilene. Mrs. Stewart was born in Bryan and graduated from high school in Pampa. She attended Draughon's Business College and was a longtime resident of the Abilene area. She was a homemaker and member of Hope Chapel Foursquare Church. She married Ebert E. Stewart in 1947 at Lawn. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1981 and by a son, David Stewart, in 1991. Griggs & Sons Funeral Directors, 2615 Paramount Blvd. Mrs. Rankin was born in Sage, Ark., and moved to Amarillo in 1927. She was a Harvey Girl at the Santa Fe Depot. For more than 55 years, she was a tailor. Mrs. Rankin worked for W.H. Cobb Clothiers, the Hub Clothiers and Blackburns for many years then worked out of her home until 1995. She was a longtime member of First Baptist Church. For more than 15 years, she was a summer lodge hostess at the church's lodge in Glorieta, N.M. She married Claude Rankin in 1931 at Clovis, N.M. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1956, a daughter, Marguerite Barker in 1993, and four sons, Weldon O. Rankin in 1997, Doyle Rankin in 1993, Wayne Rankin in 1989 and Mike Rankin in 1996. Survivors include a daughter, LaFaun Ward of Amarillo; 11 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and five great-greatgrandchildren. Georgia St. Mr. Eddings was born in San Augustine and moved to Amarillo in 1960 from Clarendon. In 1979, he retired as a truck driver from Gulf Oil Wholesale. He worked for the Department of Public Safety for almost four years and worked for Deason's Cleaners for several years. He was a member and deacon at South Georgia Baptist Church and the Senior Men's Sunday School Class. He married Gladys Pittman in 1932 at Hollis, Okla. He was a school crossing guard for Lamar School and was recently featured in an article published by the school. He married Grace Fern Thompson in 1929 at Elk City. She died in 1993. He served with the Navy during World War II and worked as a commercial pressman until his retirement. He married Mellodean Tyler in 1970 at Amarillo. Survivors include his wife; two sons, Billy Neal Mitchell of California and Michael Neal Mitchell of Amarillo; a daughter, Peggy Ann Mitchell of Arizona; a stepdaughter, Dianne Rogers of Amarillo; two stepsons, David Tutter and Chris Tutter, both of Amarillo; 11 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren. New Mexico Margaret Sandoval CLOVIS, N.M. - Margaret "Peggy" Sandoval, 55, died Tuesday, June 22, 1999. Rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. today in Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday in Sacred Heart Catholic Church with the Rev. Carlos Chavez officiating. Arrangements are by Muffley Funeral Home of Clovis. Mrs. Sandoval was born in Gloucester City, England, and moved to Clovis in 1975. She was employed as golf course manager at Whispering Wind Golf Course and was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. She married Oscar Sandoval in 1976 at Clovis. Survivors include her husband; two stepdaughters, Josie Swecker of Columbus, Ga., and Dora Upchurch of Bogart, Ga.; her mother, Kathleen Watkins of Cheltenham, England; three brothers, David Axford, Robert Axford and Brian Axford, all of Cheltenham; a sister, Gill Herbert of Cheltenham; and 16 grandchildren. Alex Vallejos CLAYTON, N.M. - Alex Vallejos, 95, died Friday, June 25, 1999. Services were at 10 a.m. Saturday in St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church with the Rev. George Silva, pastor, officiating. Burial was in Clayton Memorial Cemetery by Hass Funeral Directors. Mr. Vallejos was born in Watrous and moved to Union County as a young child. The move took the family seven days in a mule-drawn wagon. He worked for several ranches, including the JE Ranch, JB Kimble Ranch, the Roy Kimble Ranch and the JT Harris Ranch. In 1975, Mr. Vallejos retired from ranching and moved into Clayton. He was a member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church. He married Adela Margarita Archuleta in 1938. She died in 1986. Survivors include two sons, Joe Al Archuleta Jr. of Rolla, Kan., and Sam Arguello of Clayton; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and a greatgreat-grandchild. Ann McGee CLOVIS, N.M. - Ann McGee, 90, died Thursday, June 24, 1999. Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday in Central Christian Church with the Revs. Kenneth Broad and Pete Jones officiating. Burial will be in Mission Garden of Memories by Muffley Funeral Home. Mrs. McGee was born in Amarillo, graduated from Amarillo High School and attended West Texas State Normal School in Canyon. In 1942, she moved to Clovis, where she worked as a travel agent and was owner of Holiday Travel and PRMC and former owner of Ann-Lee's Dress Shop. She was a member of Central Christian Church, Christian Church Women's Circle, the American Legion Auxiliary, and the Elks Club Auxiliary. She was also a member of Altrusa International, where she was Woman of the Year, Beta Sigma Phi, Master Kappa Chapter, Business and Professional Women and American Society of Travel Agents. She married Robert Donald McGee in 1929 at Amarillo. He died in 1950. Survivors include a son, Robert Lee McGee of Amarillo; a daughter, Mary Ann Wuest of Clovis; a sister, Isabelle Perkins of Clovis; nine grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. Santos Gomez CLOVIS, N.M. - Santos "Ama" Gomez, 84, died Friday, June 25, 1999. Rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. today in Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Community. Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday in Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Community with Daniel M. Balizan as celebrant. Burial will be in Mission Garden of Memories by Muffley Funeral Home. Mrs. Gomez was born in Corsicana, Texas and moved to Clovis in 1954. She was a homemaker and a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Community. She married Pete Gomez in 1942 at Plainview. Survivors include six sons, Henry S. Gomez of Modesto, Calif., John C. Gomez, Jesse C. Gomez and Ernest C. Gomez, all of Clovis, Paul C. Gomez of Albuquerque and E.C. Gomez of Roswell; two daughters, Hipolita Monsivaiz of Dallas and Pauline Pacheco of Clovis; four brothers, James Santos, Charles Santos, John Santos and Chon Santos, all of Ennis, Texas; three sisters, Christine Sanchez, Timotea Martinez and Anastacia Correa, all of Ennis; 18 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and three great-greatgrandchildren. Robert Irvin Hazelwood ROSWELL, N.M. - Robert "Bob" Irvin Hazelwood, 70, died Thursday, June 24, 1999. Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday in First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Steve Chappell officiating. Burial will be in South Park Cemetery by La Grone Funeral Chapel. Mr. Hazelwood was born in Spearman, Texas, and graduated from Amarillo High School in 1947. He served with the Navy, attended New Mexico Institute of Mining and Technology at Socorro and, for several years, was in the petroleum industry. He lived in Roswell from 1956 until 1977, when he moved to Artesia. He served as Eddy County Commissioner, District 2 from 1987 until 1989 and was on the Eastern New Mexico State Fair Board, where he served two terms as president. He was a life member and past National Director of the New Mexico Jaycees and, at the time of his death, was an independent appraiser in commercial, residential and land. He was a banking officer with S.I.C., Roswell State Bank, Pioneer Savings and Valley Savings and Loan. He was included in the Personalities of the West and Midwest publication, officiated at local and regional athletic events, was on the Wool Bowl Selection Committee and participated in the Roswell Lenders Tournament for more than 30 years. He was a member of First United Methodist Church. His wife, Margaret "Mutt" Hazelwood, preceded him in death. Charlie William Meyer CLOVIS, N.M. - Charlie William Meyer, 76, died Friday, June 18, 1999. Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Steed-Todd Funeral Home Chapel with Clyde Davis officiating. Mr. Meyer was born in Belton and moved to Clovis in 1960. His first wife, Silvia Geraldine Richardson Meyer, died in 1996. Survivors include his wife, Kate Smith Meyer of Friona; a son, Robert C. Meyer of Albuquerque, N.M.; three daughters, Silvia Francis Ridings of Quinlan, Silvia Sue Reid of Tucson, Ariz. and Lisa Lynn Brannon of Graham; and five grandchildren.
