Services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday in First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Robert Lindley, pastor, officiating. Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday in Rose Hill Cemetery at Merkel. Arrangements are by Stickley-Hill Funeral Directors of Canadian. Mr. Mayfield was born and raised in Merkel. In 1957, he graduated from Texas Tech University with a bachelor of science degree in agriculture. For 35 years he was a ranch manager for Indian Mound Ranch. For the past 26 years, he lived in Allison, where he was a member of First United Methodist Church. He was preceded in death by a son, Robert Booth Mayfield Jr. in 1992. Survivors include a daughter-in-law, Debbie Griffin of Perryton; a granddaughter, Lisa Michelle Mayfield of Perryton; and a grandson, Scott Wesley Mayfield of Perryton. Viewing will be until service time today at the funeral home. The family suggests memorials be to Allison First United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 28, Allison, TX 79003. A.J. Streeter CANADIAN - A.J. "Jim" Streeter, 83, died Saturday, Sept. 25, 1999. Services will be at 10 a.m. today in W.S.&E.C. Jones Community Pavilion with Donald Hill officiating. Graveside services will be at 4 p.m. today in Mount Carmel Cemetery at Baca County, Colo., with Donald Hill officiating. Local arrangements are by Stickley-Hill Funeral Directors, and Colorado arrangements are by Dykes Mortuary of Walsh. Mr. Streeter was born on the Streeter Ranch in Baca County. He attended schools in Valley View, Colo., and Walsh. He married Laura Wray in 1940 at Guymon, Okla. They moved to Roberts County in 1953 and to Canadian in 1996. He worked with cattle and horses most of his life on ranches in Colorado, in Oklahoma on the Cimarron River Valley and along the Canadian River in Texas. For 40 years, he was a deputy in Roberts County and was a member of the Sheriff's Association of Texas. Survivors include his wife; three daughters, Lonita Beaty of Tulsa, Okla., Noveta Stephenson of Canadian and Nadean Morris of Pampa; a sister, Augusta Meyeres of Jal, N.M.; seven grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. The family will be at 836 Conklin in Canadian. They suggest memorials be to Hemphill County Hospice, Cal Farley's Boys Ranch & Affiliates; or a favorite charity. Kathleen Herring WELLINGTON - Kathleen Herring, 82, died Sunday, Sept. 26, 1999. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. today in North Fairview Cemetery with the Rev. Monte Kris, pastor of the First United Methodist Church, officiating. Arrangements are by Adams Funeral Home of Wellington. Ms. Herring was born in Hillsboro where she graduated from Hillsboro High School and attended Hill Junior College. She moved to Wellington 20 years ago from Whitney. A farmer and rancher, she was a partner with her brother, Joe, for 20 years. Survivors include two brothers, James Herring and Joe Herring, both of Wellington. The family suggests memorials be to the Wellington Cemetery Association. The body will not be available for viewing. Marshall Carroll Messer CLARENDON - Marshall Carroll Messer, 79, of Hedley, died Monday, Sept. 27, 1999. Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday in First Baptist Church in Hedley with the Rev. Bryan Knowles, pastor of Martin Road Baptist Church of Clarendon, and the Rev. Bruce Howard, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Rowe Cemetery by Robertson Funeral Directors Inc. of Clarendon. Mrs. Messer was born in McKnight where he lived until moving to Hedley in 1970. He worked on the family farm in McKnight for much of his life. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Hedley where he served in various volunteer capacities. Survivors include a brother, C.D. Messer of Wellington; a sister-in-law, Dorothy N. "Dot" Messer of Hedley; and several nieces and nephews. Melba Morris Bibby EARTH - Melba Morris Bibby, 72, of Springlake, died Saturday, Sept. 25, 1999. Services will be at 2 p.m. MST Wednesday in First Baptist Church of Fort Sumner, N.M., with the Rev. Jim Peabody, pastor of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church of Pleasant Hill, N.M., officiating. Burial will be in Fort Sumner Cemetery in Fort Sumner by Parsons-Ellis Funeral Home of Earth. Mrs. Bibby was born in Fouke, Ark. She was a dietitian and nurse's aide for the Fort Sumner Hospital. She was a homemaker and member of First Baptist Church. She married Orlan Bibby in 1982 at Clovis, N.M. Her first marriage was to Myron Eugene Morris in 1949 at Fort Sumner. He died in 1980. Survivors include her husband; four daughters, Myria Gail Morris of Detroit, Mary Gwendolyn Sena of Fort Sumner, Frances Margo Evrenidis of Raleigh, N.C., and Libbye Ann Belgrade of Sterling, Va.; two stepdaughters, Kathy West and LaVerne Fennell, both of Springlake; a sister, Merle Smith of Wyoming; a brother, Neil Benton of Melbourne, Fla.; two grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; and five step-great-grandchildren. The family suggests memorials be to Earth EMS. Delton Blakley Jones HALE CENTER - Delton Blakley Jones, 86, died Saturday, Sept. 25, 1999. Services will be at 3 p.m. today in Hammons Funeral Home Chapel in Littlefield with the Rev. Gene Meacham, pastor of the First Baptist Church in Hale Center, officiating. Burial will be in Littlefield Memorial Park. Mr. Jones was born in Nathan, Ark., and served in the Army during World War II. He moved to Littlefield in 1952. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Hale Center. Mr. Jones worked in a tire shop until becoming a car salesman in 1958. He worked for several dealerships including Armes Chevrolet. He was a former deacon of First Baptist Church in Littlefield where he taught Sunday School and served as Sunday School superintendent. He married Edna Westbrook in 1941 at Dierks, Ark. Survivors include his wife; three sons, Howard Ray Jones of Fillmore, Calif., Bobby G. Jones of Little Rock, Ark., and William L. Jones of Fort Worth; a daughter, Hilda "Heidi" Trimmier of Hale Center; 10 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. Henry Schoenhals FOLLETT - Henry "Fritz" Schoenhals, 56, formerly of Lipscomb County, died Sunday, Sept. 26, 1999. Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday in Fairview Cemetery southwest of Follett. Arrangements are by Good Samaritan Funeral Service of Booker. Mr. Schoenhals was born in Lipscomb County and grew up on the family homestead where he lived until 1987. He then lived in various places until moving to Elk City, Okla., in April. Survivors include eight brothers, Harold Schoenhals, Clarence Schoenhals and Elmer Schoenhals, all of Perryton, Alvin Schoenhals of Tucson, Harry Schoenhals of Bethany, Okla., Edward Schoenhals of Gate, Okla., and Lawrence Schoenhals and Roy Schoenhals, both of Carthage, Mo.; and a sister, Gertrude Born of Darrouzett. Oklahoma Kathryn May Funk Holland GUYMON, Okla. - Kathryn May "Kappy" Funk Holland, 89, died Sunday, Sept. 26, 1999. Graveside services will be at 4 p.m. today in Elmhurst Cemetery with the Rev. Jim Jamieson officiating. Arrangements are by Bunch-Roberts Funeral Home. Mrs. Holland was born and raised in Guymon. She worked at the American and Royal theatres, which her parents owned and operated. She graduated from Guymon High School in 1926 and from Oklahoma Panhandle State University. She attended Oklahoma City University, where she studied dance and reigned as Miss Oklahoma. She taught elementary school in California after her marriage to Homer Holland. After returning to Guymon, she owned and operated Kappy's School of Dance for many years. In Guymon, she and her husband were in the dry cleaning business for many years, where she did alterations. She was a member of the Guymon Assembly of God Church. Survivors include a son, Mike Holland; three granddaughters; and four great-grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be to The Gideons to purchase Bibles. The family will be at 716 Main St. New Mexico Barbara L. Plummer TUCUMCARI, N.M. - Barbara L. Plummer, 66, died Sunday, Sept. 26, 1999. Memorial services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday in Dunn Funeral Home Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Scott Seymour, minister of Center Street United Methodist Church, officiating. Following her wishes, Mrs. Plummer was cremated. Mrs. Plummer was born in Tucumcari where she was a lifelong resident. For more than 16 years, she was an accountant with the H&R Block accounting office in Tucumcari. She was preceded in death by her husband, Roy Plummer, in July. Survivors include three sons, Lee Plummer of Dimmitt, Texas, Lyn Plummer of Casa Grande, Texas, and Bill Plummer of Laveen, Ariz.; and five grandchildren. Billy Joe Hunter PECOS, N.M. - Billy Joe "B.J." Hunter, 76, died Sunday, Sept. 26, 1999. Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Glorieta Baptist Church in Pecos. Burial will be at 2 p.m Thursday in Llano Cemetery in Amarillo by Santa Fe Funeral Options in Santa Fe. Mr. Hunter was born in Amarillo and raised on a ranch near Canyon, Texas. He attended Canyon schools and West Texas State College from 1940 until 1942. From 1942 until 1945, Mr. Hunter served in the Navy with the Seabees. He attended Londig College of Mortuary Science. For most of his life, he served as a funeral director. Survivors include his wife, Elaine "Sonny" Hunter; two daughters, Nancy Karon Lovelady of El Paso, Texas, and Donna Sharon Reasoner of Plano, Texas; and six grandchildren. Visitation will be from 5 until 8 p.m. today in Glorieta Baptist Church. Amarillo Elizabeth J. Schwind Elizabeth J. "Betty" Schwind, 77, of Amarillo, died Friday, Sept. 24, 1999. Memorial services will be at 1 p.m. today in N.S. Griggs & Sons Funeral Directors Pioneer Chapel, 2615 Paramount Blvd., with the Rev. Ken Keller of St. Mary's Catholic Church officiating. Cremation was handled by N.S. Griggs & Sons. Ms. Schwind was born in Breckenridge. She lived in Pampa from 1935 to 1964, when she moved to Amarillo. She was an Army veteran of World War II, serving in the Women's Auxiliary Corps. She was a nurse at Northwest Texas Hospital for many years before retiring. She was a Catholic and attended St. Mary's Catholic Church. Survivors include two sisters, Madeleine Collins and Margaret Dial, both of Pampa; two brothers, Francis Schwind of Laveta, Colo., and John Schwind of Fort Worth. Philip Ray Baland Philip Ray Baland, 64, of Amarillo, died Friday, Sept. 24, 1999. Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Llano Cemetery with the Rev. David Shelly, pastor of Bible Missionary Church, officiating. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2820 Virginia Circle. Mr. Baland was born in Memphis, Tenn., and had been a resident of Amarillo since 1949. He was a Navy veteran and was a retired maintenance worker. Survivors include a son, Nelson R. Baland of Lubbock; his mother, Mary Baland of Amarillo; two sisters, Bobbie Neidig of Fort Myers, Fla., and Marilyn Gibson of Baltimore; and two grandchildren. The body will not be available for viewing. Katie Lee Hollifield Katie Lee Hollifield, 89, died Sunday, Sept. 26, 1999. Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Schooler-Gordon Funeral Directors, Bell Avenue Chapel, 5400 Bell St., with Tommy Smith officiating. Mrs. Hollifield was born in Murfreesboro, Tenn., and moved to Amarillo in 1973 from Dumas. She was a homemaker and in the banking industry. She was a member of Olsen Park Church of Christ, Order of Eastern Star in New Mexico, was a Girl Scout and Cub Scout leader and taught Bible class. She married W. Grady Hollifield in 1938 at Melrose, N.M. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1996 and by a son, John Hollifield, in 1994. Survivors include a son, Dr. Jim Hollifield of Amarillo; three daughters, Kae Sanders of Lafayette, La., Gae Smith of Langhorne, Pa., and Kim Domanico of Denver; two sisters, Johnnie Johnson of Belen, N.M., and Christine Drennon of Murfreesboro; 12 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. The family suggests memorials be to Alzheimer's Association Panhandle Chapter or a favorite charity. W.J. Hill Jr. W.J. Hill Jr., 84, of Amarillo, died Monday, Sept. 27, 1999. Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday in San Jacinto United Methodist Church with the Rev. Bill Fitzgerald, pastor, and the Rev. John Love, pastor of Trinity Fellowship, officiating. Burial will be in Llano Cemetery by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2820 Virginia Circle. Mr. Hill was born in Bushland where he graduated from Bushland High School. He attended Amarillo College and graduated from West Texas State University in 1938. Mr. Hill was a member of Toastmasters, Panhandle Livestock Association, Federal Land Bank and a 60-year member of Amarillo Masonic Lodge No. 731. He was a member of San Jacinto United Methodist Church where he served on the administrative board and attended Ambassadors Sunday School Class. He married Evelyn Dale in 1938 at Amarillo. Survivors include his wife; a son, W.J. Hill III of Dimmitt; a sister, Ruth P. Forbes of Silver Spring, Md.; and three grandchildren. Musa Carter Coffee Musa Carter Coffee, 99, of Amarillo, died Sunday, Sept. 26, 1999. Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday in Blackburn-Shaw Funeral Directors, Memorial Chapel, 315 E. Fifth, with Dr. Howard Batson of First Baptist Church of Amarillo, officiating. Burial will be in Llano Cemetery. Mrs. Coffee was born in Miami to pioneers, Mr. and Mrs. S.G. Carter. In 1907, she moved with her family by wagon to Amarillo. She was valedictorian of the class of 1917 of Amarillo High School. She attended Baylor Belton College, the University of Texas and West Texas Normal College. She was a member of First Baptist Church. Mrs. Coffee taught school at Alice Landergin Elementary School, Margaret Wills Elementary School and Miami High School. During World War II, she was an instructor of electronic systems of B-17s and B-29s. She was the first lay person to head a department at St. Anthony's Hospital, where she retired in 1967 as medical records librarian. She married William Cleaveland Coffee in 1923. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1986 and by a son, William C. Coffee Jr. Survivors include two daughters, Doris Morgan of Amarillo and Peggy Salisbury of San Marino, Calif.; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. The family suggests memorials be to the Employee Recognition Fund of Craig Methodist Retirement Community. Lottie Zaring Slocum Lottie Zaring Slocum, 77, died Monday, Sept. 27, 1999. Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Rector Funeral Home Chapel, 2800 S. Osage, with Dr. Jim Garrett, pastor of Polk Street United Methodist Church, officiating. Mrs. Slocum was born in Adrian and lived in Amarillo for most of her life. During World War II, she served in the Marine Corps. She was a homemaker and member of Polk Street United Methodist Church. She married Thomas Howard Slocum in 1944 at Elizabeth City, N.C. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1998 and by a son, Thomas W. Slocum, in 1997. Survivors include three daughters, Len Crisler, Vicki Hooten and Karen Renfroe, all of Amarillo; nine grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. The body will not be available for viewing. Ping, 75, of Amarillo, died Sunday, Sept. 26, 1999. No services are planned. Cremation and arrangements are by Schooler-Gordon Funeral Directors, 5400 Bell St. Mr. Ping was born in Bonsteel, S.D. In 1980, he moved to Amarillo from Eugene, Ore. He was a roofer. Survivors include a son, Randy Ping of Taylor; a daughter, Linda Ping of Taylor; two brothers, Jack Ping of Amarillo and Bob Ping of Eugene; and three sisters, Flossie Wilen of Whiting, Iowa, and Dorothy Allen and Betty Jones, both of Eugene. The family suggests memorials be to a favorite charity. Elsewhere Mary Souder EVANSVILLE, Ind. - Mary Souder, 78, a former Brownsville, Texas, resident, died Monday, Sept. 20, 1999. Mass and burial were Sept. 22, 1999, at St. Theresa Church and Sunset Memorial Cemetery at Evansville. Mrs. Souder retired in 1980 from the Social Security office after 25 years. She was a member of St. Theresa Catholic Church. She was married to Ray J. Souder for 52 years. Survivors include her husband; two daughters, Gloria J. Morton of Tacoma, Wash., and Sarah E. Johnston of Amarillo; two sons, Robert A. Souder and Ronald A. Souder, both of Evansville; three sisters, Sofia Villareal and Elvira Montalvo, both of Weslaco, Texas, and Juanita Gonzalez of Harlingen, Texas; a brother, A.L. "Sonny" Martinez of Rockdale, Texas; and 11 grandchildren. Harmon Bagley HARRAH, Okla. - Harmon Bagley, 72, died Sunday, Sept. 26, 1999. Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday in Asa Smith Funeral Service Chapel of Harrah. Burial will be in Erin Springs Cemetery in Erin Springs. Mr. Bagley was born in Ada, Okla. He was a truck driver for LeeWay and a farmer. Survivors include three sons, Tom Bagley and Chris Bagley, both of Harrah, and Randy Bagley of Oklahoma City; and four sisters, Betty Lois Garrison and Bobbie Busby, both of Amarillo, JoAnn Willis of Marietta and Peggy Ezell of New Mexico. Gloria Aleman LUBBOCK - Gloria Aleman, 68, died Saturday, Sept. 25, 1999. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. today in Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church with the Rev. James O'Connor officiating. Burial will be in Resthaven Memorial Park by Chapel of Angels Funeral Home of Lubbock. Mrs. Aleman was born in Alpine. She had lived in Brownfield until moving to Lubbock in April. She married Antonio V. Aleman Sr. in 1947. He died in 1973. Survivors include two daughters, Linda Gonzalez of Lubbock and Margie Flores of Brownfield; four sons, Carlos Aleman of Lubbock, Antonio Aleman Jr. of Amarillo, Jerry Aleman of Longmont, Colo., and Arthur Aleman of Dayton; a sister, JoAnn Ybarra of California; three brothers, Wally Reschman of San Antonio and Freddy Reschman and Harvey Reschman, both of California; 22 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren.
