Services will be at 2 p.m. today in Carmichael-Whatley Colonial Chapel with Nathan Bailey and Raymond Jones, both of Wells Street Church of Christ, officiating. Burial will be in Memory Gardens Cemetery. Mr. Steele was born in Thackler, Ala., and moved from Lone Grove, Okla., to the Texas Panhandle in 1942. Since 1950, he had been a resident of the Lefors and Pampa areas. He worked for the Columbian Carbon Co., from 1942 until his retirement in 1964. He married Alcie Bogle in 1931 at Wilson, Okla. He was preceded in death by two sons, Melvin Steele, in 1937, and David Lee Steele in 1994. Survivors include his wife;, three daughters, Maxcine Chase, Imogene Angel and Lavern Fulton, all of Pampa; a son, Dwayne Steele of LaPorte; a sister, Bertie Whitmire of Tullahoma, Tenn.; a brother, Curtis Steele of Tullahoma; 17 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. The family suggests memorials be to a favorite charity. Jeff George DUMAS - Jeff George, 38, died Tuesday, April 27, 1999. Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in First Presbyterian Church with Dr. Vince Kolb, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Northlawn Memorial Gardens by Morrison Funeral Directors. Mr. George was born in Amarillo and had lived in Dumas since 1969. He graduated from Dumas High School in 1979 and from Wayland Baptist University in 1984. He was a pipefitter and worked in construction. Survivors include a son, Patrick George of Indianapolis, Ind.; his parents, J.A. and Louise George of Dumas; a sister, Gayla Martin of Bovina; and three brothers, Jim George of Amarillo, Joe George of Dumas and Richard George of Galva, Kan. Combs, 81, of Dallas, died Monday, April 26, 1999. Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday in First Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Jeremy Grant officiating. Burial will be in Rest Lawn Memorial Park by Rix Funeral Directors. Mrs. Combs was born and raised in Ritchey, Mo. She attended Kansas State Teachers College. In 1949, she and her husband moved to Hereford from California. Mrs. Combs taught elementary school for many years then later was a substitute teacher. She was active in the Presbyterian Church until moving to Dallas in 1994. She married Leslie W. Combs in 1939. He died in 1976. Survivors include three sons, Greg of Richardson, Dick of Denver and Brent of Dallas; a sister, Thelma Charlton of Fallon, Nev.; two brothers, Bill and Jack Mitchell of Neosho, Neb.; and five grandchildren. Ovie Manasco MULESHOE - Ovie Manasco, 91, died Tuesday, April 27, 1999. Burial will be in Bailey County Cemetery by Ellis Funeral Home of Muleshoe. Mrs. Manasco was born in Polk County, Ark., and moved to Muleshoe from Vandervoort, Ark., in 1947. She was a homemaker and member of New Vision Church of the Nazarene. She married Louis Manasco in 1925 at De Queen, Ark. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1977 and by a son, James, in 1990. Survivors include a son, Ray Manasco of Clovis, N.M.; two daughters, Pat Springwater of Lubbock and Eunice Brinkley of Amarillo; a sister, Thelma Kimbrough of Calera, Okla.; 14 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren. The family suggests memorials be to one's local church. C. Nelson Dyson PAMPA - C. Nelson Dyson, 75, of Lynwood, Calif., died Sunday, April 25, 1999. Arrangements are by CarmichaelWhatley Funeral Directors of Pampa. Mr. Dyson was born in Wheeler and graduated from Briscoe High School. During World War II, he served in the Army and obtained the rank of sergeant. After his discharge, he moved to Lynwood where he worked as a machinist in the aerospace industry. Survivors include four brothers, Richard Dyson of Sayre, Okla., Bill Dyson of Mobeetie and Dale Dyson and R.H. Dyson, both of Pampa. Wynama Hamlin PAMPA - Wynama "Susie" Hamlin, 55, of Weatherford, died Monday, April 26, 1999. Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday in First Assembly of God with Dr. Derrell Monday, pastor of Central Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery by Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors. Mrs. Hamlin was born in Mineral Wells and moved to Pampa when she was six. She was a 1961 graduate of Pampa High School. For many years, she was a homemaker and a hairdresser. In 1996, the Hamlins' moved to Weatherford from Pampa. She married James N. Hamlin in 1963 at Pampa. Survivors include her husband; a son, Marke Hamlin of Pampa; a daughter, Gina Minyard of Pampa; four brothers, Bob Stout of Weatherford, Benny Stout of Pampa and Bill Stout and Hollis Stout, both of Parker County; and three grandchildren. Anna Bell Long Caison WELLINGTON - Anna Bell Long Caison, 86, died Tuesday, April 27, 1999. Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday in First Baptist Church with Keith Martin, deacon, officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Gardens Cemetery by Adams Funeral Home of Wellington. Mrs. Caison was born in Bonham and moved to Collinsworth County in 1914 with her family. A longtime resident, she was a homemaker and an artist. She was a member of First Baptist Church. She married Claude Wilson in 1927 at Memphis. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1977 and by a son, Charles Olin Caison, in February. Survivors include a daughter, Marjorie Ann Jones of Malakoff; two sons, C.W. Caison and David Dee Caison, both of Wellington; 13 grandchildren; 17 greatgrandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild. The family suggests memorials be to the Wellington Cemetery Association. Mrs. Forrest was born in Russellville, Ark., and moved to Canadian in 1980 from Jay, Okla. She was employed as a home health-care provider and was a volunteer for the Edward Abraham Memorial Home for many years. Mrs. Forrest was a member of the 50+ Club and a former member of the Rebekah Lodge. She was a member of First Christian Church. She married Walter Forrest in 1994 at Canadian. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1998 and by a daughter, Anna Marita Sutton, in 1969. Survivors include three sons, Billy Ray Sirmans of Canadian, Johnny K. Sirmans of Bloomfield, N.M., and Bobby Wayne Sirmans of Valrico, Fla.; a daughter, Mary Elizabeth Hughes of Canadian; 16 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild. Burial will be at 11 a.m. Monday in Sunset Memorial Park Cemetery in San Antonio. A native of Pampa, Mr. Wallis was a lifetime Borger area resident. He retired as a supervisor for Phillips Petroleum Co. at Panhandle Valve. He was a member of the Church of Christ. He married Lois Howard in 1946 at Spearman. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Kelly Jean Wallis, in 1965 and by a son, Steven Lynn Wallis, in 1983. Survivors include his wife; a son, Terry Lee Wallis of San Antonio; a daughter, Angie Gay Coleman of San Marcos; four brothers, Herman V. Wallis of Kerrville, William Wallis of San Antonio, Fred Wallis of Gardendale and Ronald Wallis of Palestine; and a sister, Juanita Jones of Palestine. Mrs. Turner was born in Omaha, Texas, and moved to Amarillo in 1950 from Oakland, Calif., where she had lived for many years. She was a domestic worker and a member of Johnson Chapel A.M.E. Church. Survivors include a daughter, Bonnie Graves of Amarillo; two sisters, Avis Carr and Gladys Strickland, both of Oakland; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. The family will be at 1911 N. Hughes St. Wanda Geraldine Warren Wanda Geraldine Warren, 70, formerly of Amarillo, died Wednesday, April 28, 1999. She had worked for the Department of Defense as a budget analyst and was office manager for several automobile dealers. She was a former member of Friendship Baptist Church. Survivors include two sons, Joe Warren of Pampa and Mitch Warren of Amarillo; a daughter, Shari Huntley of Morris, Ill.; two stepbrothers, Ben Cook of Gruver and Larry Cook of Oklahoma City; two stepsisters, Mary Vincent of Hartley and Shirley Harry of Ponca City, Okla.; nine grandchildren; and a great-grandchild. Rueben G. Arriaga Rueben G. Arriaga, 50, of Amarillo, died Tuesday, April 27, 1999. Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday in Arden Road Baptist Church with the Rev. Dale Bigham and the Rev. Andrew Gomez officiating. Burial will be in Memory Gardens Cemetery by Schooler Funeral Home, at 4100 S. Georgia St. Mr. Arriaga was born in Rosebud and moved to Amarillo in 1976 from Petersburg. He was project director for Jan Werner Transportation. He was a volleyball coach for home school girls and a baseball coach for Kids, Inc. Mr. Arriaga was recognized as Volunteer of the Month for Jan Werner. He was a member of Arden Road Baptist where he was active in the church bus ministry. He also was a member of Iglesia Bautista Arden Road and involved in the Spanish ministry. He married Bigenia De La Rose in 1975 at Amarillo. Survivors include his wife; three daughters, Maria Aguillar and Patricia Bethel, both of Greenville, and Elizabeth Arriaga of Amarillo; three sons, David Arriaga of Greenville and Gabriel Arriaga and Nathaniel Arriaga, both of Amarillo; four sisters, Carolina Dominguez, Esmeralda Ray, Esther Bowlin and Janie Stapp, all of Amarillo; four brothers, Simon Arriaga of Petersburg and Rudy Arriaga, Frank Arriaga and Andy Arriaga, all of Amarillo; and five grandchildren. The family suggests memorials be to Jan Werner Adult Day Care, 3108 S. Fillmore, Amarillo, TX 79110. Gracie Ray Baker Gracie Ray Baker, 80, of Amarillo, died Tuesday, April 27, 1999. Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday in Schooler Funeral Home, Brentwood Chapel, 4100 S. Georgia with the Rev. Bill Wade of Polk Street United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Mrs. Baker was born and raised in Amarillo where she graduated from Amarillo High School. In 1961, she retired as a bookkeeper for Quality Sheet Metal. She was a member of Polk Street United Methodist Church and a lifetime member and past president of the Amarillo Women's Bowling Association. She married Sam Baker in 1938 at Amarillo. He died in 1995. Survivors include two daughters, Kaye Venhaus of Happy and Susan Branch of Amarillo; two sons, David Baker of Las Vegas and James Baker of Big Spring; 15 grandchildren; and 35 great-grandchildren. New Mexico Lois Chambliss Jones CLOVIS, N.M. - Lois Chambliss Jones, 76, died Monday, April 26, 1999. Services will be at 3:30 p.m. today in First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Charles Bader officiating. Burial will be in Mission Garden of Memories by Steed-Todd Funeral Home. Mrs. Jones was born in Bowie and was raised on a West Texas farm. She began her teaching career in 1944 at Clovis Junior High School, now Marshall Junior High, where she taught for two years. She returned to the classroom in 1958 at Clovis High School where she taught speech and English until retiring in 1991, after a 351/2 year career. During her years at Clovis High, she served as a class sponsor and worked with the Student Council. She was chairman of the Language Arts Department for the Clovis Municipal Schools and head of the English Department at Clovis High until her retirement. In May of 1992, Mrs. Jones was inducted into the Educators Hall of Fame for the Southeast Region of NEA-N.M. and in 1994, she was inducted into the NEA-N.M. State Hall of Fame. She was an active member of the National Council of Teachers of English; of the New Mexico Education Association, serving on the Standards Commission; of the Clovis Education Association, serving in many offices; of the American Legion Auxiliary, serving as past state president and as the director of New Mexico Girls State. Mrs. Jones was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Clovis where she participated in the Women's Bible Class and had served as education committee chairman. She was a member and past president of the Zeta Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma, also serving on several state committees for Theta State, Delta Kappa Gamma. She also was a member and past president of Chapter AY of the PEO Sisterhood. She married Richard S. Jones in 1946. Survivors include her husband; her children, Dick Jones of Santa Fe, Mark Jones of Tucson and Kathy Jones of Taos; a brother, J.W. Chambliss of Ojai, Calif.; and two grandchildren. Lucy Bocox Sanders CLOVIS, N.M - Lucy Bocox Sanders, 90, died Sunday, April 25, 1999. Services will be at 10 a.m. today in Steed-Todd Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Herbert Bergstrom officiating. Burial will be in Lawn Haven Memorial Gardens. Mrs. Sanders was born in Reydon, Okla., and moved with her family to New Mexico in 1923, settling in the Pleasant Hill community. She graduated from Pleasant Hill High School in 1929 then attended New Mexico State Teachers College at Las Vegas, the University of New Mexico at Albuquerque, and graduated from Eastern New Mexico University at Portales. She taught school for 39 years in primary grades at Ranchvale, Eunice, Texico and Farwell, retiring in 1974 from James Bickley School at Clovis. She was a life member of the National Education Association, C.E.A., N.M.E.A., American Association for Retired Persons, and of the Retired Teachers Association of Clovis. She was a charter member of Kappa Kappa Iota and a member of Daughters of the American Revolution. She also was a member of Kingswood United Methodist Church. She married Calvin E. Sanders in 1934 at Clovis. He preceded her in death. Survivors include a daughter, Gloria Morris of Houston; a son, Ronnie Sanders of Hastings, Neb.; a sister, Margie Tucker of Temecula, Calif.; four grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, and three greatgreat-grandchildren. Jackie Edwin Paris TUCUMCARI, N.M. - Jackie Edwin Paris, 40, of Kennewick, Wash., died Sunday, April 25, 1999. Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday in San Jon First Baptist Church with the Rev. Ben Telle and Roy Mitchell officiating. Burial will be in San Jon Cemetery by Dunn Funeral Home of Tucumcari. Mr. Paris was born in Tucumcari and lived in San Jon, graduating from San Jon High School in 1977. After graduation, he moved to Kansas and worked in the feed yards. Later, Mr. Paris moved to Odessa where he worked in the oil fields. In Washington, he was employed as an equine accupressure therapist. He married Marna Short in 1979. Survivors include three daughters, Shonda Paris, Debra Paris and Tonja Paris, all of Jackson, Mich.; his parents, Jim and Lois Paris of San Jon; a sister, Janice Green of Copeland, Kan.; a brother, Glen Paris of Fritch; and his grandmother, Cora White of San Jon. Services were at 3 p.m. Wednesday in the Chapel of Frank W. Wilson Funeral Directors with the Rev. Randy Rives officiating. Burial was in Sunset memorial Gardens. Mr. Holtzclaw was born in Plainview. He married Juanita Lara in 1971 at Goldsmith. They moved to Monahans in 1994 from Goldsmith. He worked for KN Energy/Sid Richardson for 26 years. Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Robin Holtzclaw of Monahans; a son, Jeff Holtzclaw of Midland; and two brothers, Carrol Wayne and James Holtzclaw, both of Midland. Avanell Odell Peters DALLAS - Avanell Odell Peters, 77, died Tuesday, April 27, 1999. Services will be at noon Friday in Restland Memorial Chapel. Arrangements are by Restland Funeral Home of Dallas. Mrs. Peters was born in Texarkana and had lived in Dallas since 1959. She was a homemaker and member of Bethany Baptist Church in Pleasant Grove. She was preceded in death by her husband of 44 years, Glenn Peters, in 1990 and by a son, Johnny Hargrave, in 1984. Survivors include three daughters, Gail Cook of Logan, N.M., Jan Bigbee of Brenham and Patti Gilbreath of Richardson; 17 grandchildren; and 17 greatgrandchildren. The family will receive friends from 7 until 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.
