Arrangements are by Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors. Mrs. Slaymaker was born in Newton, Kan., and moved to Pampa from western Kansas in 1973. She was a homemaker and a member of First Christian Church, Pampa Fine Arts, Friends of the Library and a life member of the Hospital Auxiliary. She married Marvin Slaymaker in 1952 at Potwin, Kan. Survivors include her husband; two sons, Kerry Slaymaker of Enid, Okla., and Nick Slaymaker of Noble, Okla.; three daughters, Sherry Richardson and Geri Shaw, both of Pampa, and Julie Slaymaker of El Reno, Okla.; a sister, Patricia Campbell of Salina, Kan.; and 10 grandchildren. The body will be available for viewing until noon today. John J. Schumann VERNON - John J. Schumann, 83, died Sunday, June 27, 1999, at Wichita Falls. Services will be at 2 p.m. today in the Immanuel Lutheran Church of Harrold, with Robert Holaday, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Eastview Cemetery by Sullivan Funeral Home. Mr. Schumann was born in Elliott and had lived most of his life in the Harrold area. He farmed and ranched and did carpentry work. He also was an appraiser and adjuster for Farmer's Mutual Protective Insurance Co. He was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church. He married Alice C. Schoppa in 1941 at Harrold. Survivors include his wife; three daughters, Betty Weiser of Harrold, Joyce Polster of Amarillo, and Agnes Jeske of Olney; five brothers, Gus Schumann, Ed Schumann, Marvin Schumann, Dan Schumann, and Walter Schumann, all of Vernon; two sisters, Alma Gregory of Lawton, Okla., and Edna Ryan of Vernon; eight grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. Burial will be in Highland Park Cemetery by Brown Funeral Directors. Mrs. Baker was born in Van Zandt County and had lived in Borger for 61 years. She was a retired maintenance employee for Phillips Petroleum Co., and attended Bible Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Rex Baker, in 1970. Survivors include two sons, Dennis Baskin of Mesquite and John Baskin of San Antonio; a stepson, Sam Baker of Columbia, S.C.; a half sister, Ruth Lane of Dumas; seven grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. Lester Sparks McLain SPEARMAN - Lester Sparks McLain, 97, died Sunday, June 27, 1999. Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday in First Christian Church with the Rev. Joseph Weaks, the Rev. Ken Cole and Jim Brown officiating. Burial will be in Hansford Cemetery by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Home of Spearman. Mr. McLain was born in Cassopolis, Mich., and moved to the area in 1919 from Gray, Okla. A farmer, he was a member of First Christian Church of Spearman, Masons Lodge No. 1040, Shriner and Scottish Rite. He married Ada Estelle Hamilton in 1929 at Lake Charles, La. She died in 1996. Survivors include a son, Don McLain of Spearman; three daughters, Mary Brock of Spearman and Mona May and Reva Money, both of Austin; 15 grandchildren; and 33 great-grandchildren. The family suggests memorials be to Hansford Hospice or the First Christian Church of Spearman. Sammy Dunn PLAINVIEW - Sammy Dunn, 57, died Saturday, June 26, 1999 at Lake LBJ. Services will be at 2 p.m. today in College Heights Baptist Church with the Rev. Don Robertson, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Plainview Cemetery by Lemons Funeral Home of Plainview. Mr. Dunn was born and raised in Amarillo where he graduated from Amarillo High School. He served with the Army during the Vietnam War. After his discharge, he drove an armored truck in Amarillo. After moving to Plainview, Mr. Dunn worked for the Plainview Police Department and attended Wayland Baptist University. He received his degree in criminal justice and became an officer in the Adult Probation Department for Hale County. At the time of his death, he was a deputy for the Hale County Sheriff's Department. Mr. Dunn was a member of College Heights Baptist Church, Noon Lions Club, Masons and Scottish Rite. He was active in youth sports as a coach and was on the Sports Commission. He married Jo White in 1967 at Perryton. Survivors include his wife; three daughters, Darlene Needham of Plainview, Teresa Reed of Pineville, La., and Karen Wyatt of Lovington, N.M.; a sister, Barbara Chrostowski of Amarillo; and five grandchildren. Elvie Jennings FRIONA - Elvie Jennings, 84, died Monday, June 28, 1999. Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in First United Methodist Church of Friona with the Rev. Archie Echols of Abilene and Leon Talley of Friona officiating. Cremation and arrangements are by EllisBlackwell Funeral Home of Friona. Mr. Jennings was born in Cone and moved to Muleshoe in 1919 where he farmed and obtained his pilot's license. He attended Spartan School of Aeronautics in Tulsa then became a flight instruction for the Army during World War II. Mr. Jennings instructed at Thompson Robbins field in West Helena, Ark., until it closed. He then operated the airport in Moorhead, Miss., and moved to Friona in 1945 to operate its airport. In 1948, he purchased the airport, which he re-named Benger Air Park, and operated it for 51 years. During that time, Mr. Jennings taught flight instruction, flew air charter and later added an aerial application service. He was a member of several antique tractor associations and collected and restored antique tractors. He married Virginia Gayarre in 1939 at Helena. Survivors include his wife; a son, Rick Jennings of Friona; three daughters, Gaye Tannahill of Canyon, Jo Anne Hill-Danner of Amarillo and Teto Milner of Friona; a brother, Bill Jennings of Muleshoe; a sister, Helen Carthel of Rio Rancho, N.M.; six grandchildren; and a greatgrandson. The family suggests memorials be to Make A Wish Foundation or Boys Ranch. Wayne Mills FRIONA - Wayne Mills, 69, died Monday, June 28, 1999. Mr. Mills was born in Oklaunion and moved to Friona from Muleshoe in 1960. He was the manager of the Credit Bureau of Friona and worked for the City of Friona for more than 20 years. He was a member of Sixth Street Church of Christ. He married Joann Chitwood in 1948 at Henrietta. Survivors include his wife; a son, Michael Mills of Amarillo; a daughter, Susan Hewitt of Odessa; a brother, W.B. Mills of Oklahoma City; five grandchildren; and a great-grandchild. Amarillo Cas Anis Mace Cas Anis Mace, 79, of Amarillo, died Sunday, June 27, 1999. Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday in St. Peter's Episcopal Church, 4714 N.W. Fourth, with the Rev. Mrs. Mace was born in Plainview and graduated from Silverton High School and Texas Technological College. While attending Tech, she worked at Penrod's Department Store. She returned to Lubbock in 1958, moved to Plainview in 1966 and had lived in Amarillo since 1980. She married M. Clyde Mace in 1963 at Lubbock. Her first marriage was to James Ross Clanahan in 1942 who preceded her in death. Survivors include her husband; four daughters, Kay Carpenter and Toni Woody, both of Lubbock, Pat Jones of Colorado and Judy Arredondo of Toledo, Ohio; a sister, Clay Rackley of Ruidoso, N.M.; a brother, J.C. In 1968, she and her husband moved to Amarillo from Oklahoma City to open the Texas division of Western Uniform and Towel. She was a homemaker, a member of Amarillo Garden Club and a Presbyterian. She married H.J. "Joe" Seabrook in 1924. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1978 and by a daughter, Gloria Prescott, in 1992. Survivors include two daughters, Beryl S. Mr. Ancira was born in Lamesa, Texas, and moved to Clovis in 1986. He was a grain truck driver and a member of First Baptist Church. He married Adriana Hernandez in 1990. Survivors include his wife; six sons, Basilio Ancira II of Lufkin, Texas, Robert Ancira of Clintonville, Wis., Samuel D. Mrs. Weatherford was born in Texas. She was a Methodist. She married Doc Weatherford in 1939 at Austin, and they later moved to Clovis. He died in 1993. Graveside service will be at 4 p.m. CDT Wednesday in St. Rose Catholic Cemetery at Perry, Okla. Mr. Zelle was born in Hayward, Okla. He was a glider pilot instructor at Fort Sumner, N.M., in 1941. He served in the Air Force for 30 years, retiring in 1971. He was a lifetime member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3280. He married Helen Harkins in 1947 at Enid, Okla. She died in 1971. He married Dorothy Pierce in 1971. Survivors include his wife; two stepsons, Dewey Gale Pierce of Texico and Terry Pierce of Craig, Colo.; and a stepdaughter, Dona Kay Guy of Durango, Colo. They moved to Texhoma in 1987. He farmed for Bob Evans for 12 years and for the last two years was employed by Seaboard Farms. Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Veronica Garay and Jenny Garay, both of Texhoma; six sisters, Sandy Garay, Maria De Jesus, Julia Garay, Ana Garay, Mayra Garay, all of Fresnillo, Zacatecas, Mexico, and Rosa Sanchez of Texhoma; and three brothers, Juan Garay, Moises Garay and Raul Garay, all of Zacatecas. Kansas Ruby P. Velasquez TOPEKA, Kan. - Ruby P. Velasquez, 67, died Sunday, June 27, 1999. Rosary will be recited at 5:30 p.m. today in Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home. Mass will be celebrated at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Most Pure Heart of Mary Catholic Church. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Mrs. Velasquez was born in Forestburg, Texas. She operated a day care in her home while living in Amarillo and also for 20 years in Topeka. She had moved to Topeka in 1972 from Texas. She was a member of Most Pure Heart of Mary Catholic Church and the Auxiliary for Capitol Post 1 of the American Legion. She married Jesus P. "J.P." Velasquez in 1955 at Clovis, N.M. Survivors include her husband; a son, Raymond L. Velasquez of Topeka; and a daughter, Liz Beth Velasquez of Topeka. Memorial services were at 10 a.m. Saturday in St. Michael's Episcopal Church in Austin with the Rev. Robbey Vickery officiating. Graveside services will be Wednesday in Llano Cemetery in Amarillo. Arrangements were by Amey Funeral Home in Austin. Mrs. Hill was born and raised in Amarillo where she graduated from Amarillo High School. She attended Amarillo Junior College and Lindenwood College in St. Louis. During World War II, she went to New York for nurse's training. An Austin resident for eight years, Mrs. Hill previously lived in Pampa, Marin County, Calif., and Oklahoma City. She married Chilton Baird Hill in 1950 at Amarillo. He died in 1982. Survivors include her children, Connie Anderson, Jeannie Bryant and Laura Hunt, all of Austin, and Ann Fruits and Sam Hill, both of Tulsa; and nine grandchildren. Mrs. King was born in Wellington, Texas. She was a 1939 graduate of Amarillo High School in Amarillo. She was a member of Elizabeth Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence E. King Jr. Survivors include a daughter, Bryna I. Scheuerle of Belle Vernon, Pa.; a son, C.
