Burial will be in Memorial Heights Cemetery in Lefors by Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors of Pampa. Mrs. Wells was born in Kingfisher, Okla. She had been a resident of Lefors since 1957. She married Byron Wells in 1954 at Wheeler. He died in 1992. Mrs. Wells worked as a registered nurse, working at Coronado and Groom hospitals for 34 years. She retired in 1993. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Lefors. Survivors include a son, Thomas Byron Wells, Jr. of Amarillo; three brothers, Carl Snethen of Moore Okla., Ben Snethen of Chino, Calif., and Al Snethen of Cheyenne, Okla; and two grandchildren. She was a member of the Church of Christ of Lefors, teaching Sunday School. She was a homemaker. She married C.B. "Buck" Todd in 1943 at Bend, Ore. He died in 1985. Survivors include two daughters, Carolyne Lee Todd Howe of Lefors and Peggy Elizabeth Todd Finney of Amarillo; a sister, Mary Jones of Hereford; five grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren. Amarillo Daily News, Oct. 30, 1999 Charles Raymond Tarkenton PLAINVIEW - Charles Raymond Tarkenton, 83, died Friday, Oct. 29, 1999. Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday in Bartley-Silva Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Eli Cooper and the Rev. Don Robertson officiating. Graveside services will be at 2:30 in City of Lubbock Cemetery. Mr. Tarkenton was born in Waurika, Okla., and graduated from Fort Worth High School in 1936. In 1938, he moved to Lubbock where he owned a sandwich shop. He moved to Roswell, N.M., in 1939 then returned to Lubbock. Mr. Tarkenton worked for an oil company in California, then returned to Lubbock in 1940 where he entered the insurance business. From 1942 until 1945, he served in the Army Air Corps with the 404th bomb group. In 1951, Mr. Tarkenton moved to Plainview where he was associated with Lemons Funeral Home for 32 years. He was a lifetime member of the Grand Lodge of Texas AF&AM and was a master mason for 50 years with Lodge No. 709. He married Cora Lee Garrison in 1946. Survivors include his wife; three daughters, Nicki Charlene Cates of Houston, Janet Reeves of Plainview and Carey Rhea Clingan of Topeka, Kan.; eight grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. Mrs. Orr was born in Dallas and attended school in Houston. Orr in 1941 at Richmond. He died in 1989. Private family burial will be in Lawn Haven Memorial Gardens by Muffley Funeral Home of Clovis. Mr. Snelson was born in Clovis. He attended New Mexico Military Institute and graduated from Portales High School. A Navy veteran, he received both his bachelor's and master's degrees from Eastern New Mexico University. In 1986, he retired as principal of R.M. Jones Elementary in Portales. He previously had taught fourth and fifth grades at John P. Steiner Elementary. After his retirement, Mr. Snelson sold and appraised real estate for Master Realty in Portales and Kenneth Realty in Clovis. In 1993, he was employed as a supervisor of student teachers for Eastern New Mexico University. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Portales and attended Central Christian Church in Clovis. He married Chris Dooley in 1951 at Portales. Services will be at 2 p.m. today in Key Heights Baptist Church at Perryton, Texas, with Jeff Staton officiating. Burial will be at 4 p.m. today in Restlawn Cemetery at Liberal, Kan., by Bunch-Roberts Funeral Home. Mrs. Tuttle was born near Guthrie. She graduated from high school at Salina, Kan., and attended business school at Denver. She was employed by the Denver National Bank. She married Karl Southern in Denver. They also lived in Nebraska and Waco, Texas. During World War II, they moved to Liberal, and Mrs. Tuttle worked as a civilian counselor at Liberal Air Base. After the war, they moved to Guymon where they owned and operated Casey's Coffee Shop. She also worked in the clothing retail business at J.C. Penny Co., and Ethel's Dress Shop. She was a member of the Business and Professional Women's Club, serving as president. She married Frank Tuttle in 1952 at Liberal. He died in 1962. Mrs. Tuttle was a member of First Christian Church where she served on the church board, was president of the Ladies Missionary Group and was a children's Sunday school teacher. She was a member of the Hobby Club and Book Club. She also was preceded in death by a stepdaughter, June Southern. Survivors include two daughters, Karlyne Wadley of Perryton, Texas, and Margo Riddles of Arlington; two brothers, Mory Bell of Littleton, Colo., and Louis Bell of California; a stepson, M.L. Southern of Tyrone, Okla.; seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren. Mr. Hintergardt was born in Los Angeles and graduated from Hardesty High School in 1971. He was employed as a licensed practical nurse for the Memorial Hospital of Texas County. For the past two years, he worked for Drs. Rita and Chris Slater in the Medical Arts Clinic. He was a member of Foursquare Church. He married Mary Jo Ketcherside in 1972. Amarillo Daily News, Oct. 30, 1999 Gladys Marie Summers BOISE CITY, Okla. - Gladys Marie Summers, 93, died Thursday, Oct. 28, 1999. Graveside services will be at 2:30 p.m. today in Boise City Cemetery with David Peterson officiating. Arrangements are by Cimarron Mortuary in Boise City. Mrs. Summers was born near Mount Ayre, Iowa, and started school in Tingley, Iowa. In 1915, the family moved to Oklahoma City and later to Portales, N.M. They returned to Oklahoma City then moved to Cimarron County in 1917. She graduated from Cimarron County High School in 1925 and later took a business course. Mrs. Summers worked for the post office and the Johnson Motor Co., before being elected City Treasurer of Boise City. Later, she was employed by the Oklahoma State Extension Department. After her marriage, she lived in Felt until 1952 when the family moved to a farm in Gentry, Ark. She was a member of First Baptist Church. In 1960, she returned to Boise City. Mrs. Summers worked in Coly's Store and Palmer's Variety Store until her retirement in 1972. She was a member of First Christian Church. She married Roy Summers in 1935. He died in 1989. Survivors include four sons, Robert Summers of Texline, Chuck Summers of Boise City, Lee Summers of Siloam Springs, Ark., and John Summers of Lamar, Colo.; a daughter, Annabelle King of Boise City; 11 grandchildren; 12 greatgrandchildren; and eight great-greatgrandchildren. Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Monday in Floral Haven Cemetery in Tulsa with the Rev. Warren C. Hultgren officiating. Arrangements are by Henson-Novak Funeral Directors of Guymon. Mrs. Teel was born in Pawnee. After graduating from Tahlequah High School, she attended Draughon's Business College and Northeastern Oklahoma College. She retired from the Bank of Oklahoma after 27 years in banking. Mrs. Teel was a member of Epworth Methodist Church in Tulsa. In 1982, she moved to Guymon. She married J. Sterling Teel in 1934 at Tahlequah. He died in 1973. Survivors include a daughter, Nancy Howard of Guymon; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends from 1 until 3 p.m. Sunday at Henson-Novak Funeral Directors of Guymon. The family suggest memorials be to the Elizabeth Teel Memorial for the Hansford County Hospice and the Victory Memorial United Methodist Church Bus Fund. Amarillo Daily News, Oct. 30, 1999 Elsewhere Minnie Lee Hedrick STEPHENVILLE - Minnie Lee Hedrick, 91, a former longtime resident of Walnut Springs, died Thursday, Oct. 28, 1999. Services will be at 2 p.m. today in the Walnut Springs Memorial Methodist Church with the Rev. Diane Cree officiating. Burial will be in the Oak Grove Cemetery at Walnut Springs. Arrangements are by Lawson Funeral Home of Meridian. Mrs. Hedrick was born in Henderson County. She moved to Walnut Springs at a young age where she completed school. She was a homemaker and a member of the Walnut Springs Memorial Methodist Church. She had lived in Stephenville since 1982. She married B.B. Hedrick in 1927 at Meridian. He died in 1988. Survivors include a daughter Natrelle Long of Canyon; two sons, Warren Hedrick of Alvarado and John Hedrick of Midlothian; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. Amarillo Daily News, Oct. 30, 1999 Beecher Dees CORPUS CHRISTI - Beecher "Val" Dees, 65, died Saturday, Oct. 23, 1999. Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in CageMills Funeral Home Chapel in Corpus Christi. Burial with graveside services will be at a later date in Evergreen Cemetery in Parkersburg, W.Va. Mr. Dees was born in Electra and graduated from Borger High School in 1952. He attended the University of Houston then lived in Houston, Louisiana and West Virginia before moving to Corpus Christi in 1983. Mr. Dees was employed as maintenance supervisor for United States Ashland Chemical Co. plants. He previously owned Dr. Livingston's Club and was a project engineer at CDI Engineering Group and Celanese Bishop Plant. He married Delores Lewis in 1953 at Phillips. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Pamela, in 1977. Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Kim Annette Dees of Corpus Christi; two sons, Eric Dees of Corpus Christi and Vincent Dees of Arlington; his mother, Dorine Dees of Amarillo; two brothers, Mike Dees of Fritch and Bill Dees of Reeds Spring, Mo.; and three grandchildren. Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday in Crescent Park Church of Christ with Wilburn Dennis, retired minister of the church, officiating. Burial will be in Littlefield Memorial Park by Hammons Funeral Home of Littlefield. Mrs. Fitzgerald was born in Carey and had lived in Littlefield for 50 years. She worked at the Littlefield Clinic and was a member of the Littlefield Hospital Auxiliary. She was a member of Crescent Park Church of Christ. She married F.A. Fitzgerald in 1934 at Silverton. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1983 and a son, Gary Fitzgerald, in 1989.
