Fillingim WHEELER - Leon G. Fillingim, 87, died Thursday, Jan. 28, 1999. Services were at 2 p.m. Saturday in First United Methodist Church of Wheeler with the Rev. Ernie McGaughey of Tulia and the Rev. Bob Lindley, pastor, officiating. Burial was in the Gageby Cemetery by Wright Funeral Home of Wheeler. Mr. Fillingim was born in Turkey and attended school in Pleasant Valley and Canadian. A farmer and rancher, he moved to Wheeler from the Gageby Community in 1961. He was a member of First United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Men. He married Vea Rose in 1935 at Arnett, Okla. Survivors include his wife; six daughters, Anna Dell Myers of Redington Shores, Fla., Evalyn Free of Tyler, Ruth Irvine of Brisco, Violet Farris of Houston, Estelle McAdams of Plains and Mozelle Thomas of Amarillo; six brothers, E.G. Fillingim and Willis Fillingim, both of Brisco, Talmage Fillingim of Providence, Utah, William Fillingim of Prescott, Ariz., Horace Fillingim of Allison and Hugh Fillingim of Grand Prairie; two sisters, Eula Newman of Fort Worth and Cornelia Lehman of Mcgregor,Minn.; 18 grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren. Ralph Milligan PAMPA - Ralph "Shorty" Milligan, 89, died Thursday, Jan. 28, 1999. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Monday in Memory Gardens Cemetery with the Rev. Lonny Robbins, pastor of Trinity Fellowship, officiating. Arrangements are by Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors of Pampa. Mr. Milligan was born in Jasper County, Mo. He grew up near Tonkawa, Okla., and moved to Pampa in 1934. He was an operator for Cargile Pulling Unit. After his retirement, he moved to Arkansas and bought a ranch. Survivors include a daughter, Beverly Robbins of Pampa; three brothers, Judd Milligan of Henryetta, Okla., Max Milligan of Tonkawa and Neil Milligan of Wichita, Kan.; two grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. Mary Eileen Yinger PAMPA - Mary Eileen Yinger, 76, died Thursday, Jan. 28, 1999. Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday in Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors Colonial Chapel in Pampa with Monsignor Kevin Hand, pastor of Sacred Heart Catholic Church of White Deer, and Mike Sublett, pastor of Hi-Land Christian Church, officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery. Mrs. Yinger was born in Hamilton, Ohio. In 1944, she graduated from Mount St. Joseph College in Cincinnati with a bachelors degree in nursing. She was a nursing instructor at Good Samaritan Hospital in Dayton, Ohio, until 1950. Mrs. Yinger became nursing in-service coordinator at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Dayton in 1966. From 1977 until her retirement in 1989, she taught at the Dayton School of Practical Nursing. She was a volunteer instructor for the American Red Cross. In 1997, Mrs. Yinger received the American Heroism Medal. She was a life member and past president of the American Legion Auxiliary Post No. 2800. She was a member of the Church of the Incarnation Parish in Centerville, Ohio, from 1966 until 1998 when she moved to Pampa. She then attended the Hi-Land Christian Church and St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church. She married John Richard Yinger in 1950 at Cincinnati. Survivors include her husband; four children, Jeanne Ann Gould of Dallas, Richard Joseph Yinger of Dayton, Mary Julia Long of Pampa and John Carl Yinger of Del City, Okla.; 12 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Vigil will be at 7 p.m. Monday in Stickley-Hill Funeral Directors Chapel. Funeral mass will be celebrated at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday in Sacred Heart Catholic Church with the Rev. James McGhee, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Edith Ford Memorial Cemetery in Canadian. Mrs. Williams was born in Durham, Okla., and moved to Canadian in 1919 in a covered wagon. She graduated from Canadian High School. She was employed by Noble Trueblood Motor Co., and was a clerk at the Hemphill County tax office for many years. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. She married R.L. "Jack" Williams in 1934 at Pampa. He died in 1991. Survivors include a nephew, R.E. "Bobby" Norvill of Chinle, Ariz.; and three nieces, Barbara Hale and Patricia Salvato, both of Amarillo, and Carolyn Hunter of Sunset. Bonnie Wilson HEREFORD - Bonnie Wilson, 75, a former Hereford resident, died Thursday, Jan. 28, 1999. Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday in Parkside Chapel Funeral Home with the Rev. Bob Miller officiating. Burial will be in Restlawn Memorial Park. Mr. Wilson was born in Royce City. During World War II, he served in the Navy. After his marriage, Mr. Wilson moved to Hereford where he opened a produce market he ran until retiring. He was a member of the Avenue Baptist Church and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 4818. He married Joann Howard in 1949 at Clovis, N.M. He was preceded in death by his wife and a son, Bobby Stockinger. Survivors include two sons, T. In 1983, Mrs. Foster was Earth's Woman of the Year. She was a cook for the chamber of commerce, a homemaker and a grocery clerk. She married Leon Foster in 1941 at Eldorado, Okla. Mr. Blakely was born in Snyder and was a Navy veteran of World War II. He owned and operated Blakely Oil and Gas for more than 31 years. He was a member and past president of Hereford Kiwanis Club and a member of the Hereford Booster Club and Big Brothers and Big Sisters organization. He married Opal McCormick in 1950 at Snyder. The family suggests memorials be to St. Anthony's School Endowment Fund. Ton E. Price PAMPA - Ton E. Price, 77, died Wednesday, Jan. 27, 1999. Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday in The Carpenter's Church with the Rev. Don Rice, pastor of First Baptist Church of Fritch, officiating. Burial will be in Kelton Cemetery by Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors. Mr. Price was born in Kelton. In 1941, he was employed by Phillips Petroleum then joined the Army in 1942. He served with the Fifth Armored Division in the European Theater of World War II. In 1945, Mr. Price was discharged from the Army and returned to Phillips Petroleum. He retired in 1983. He was a former member of Harrah United Methodist Church, now The Carpenter's Church, and was a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church. His second marriage was to Wanda Ensey in 1995 at Amarillo. His first marriage was to Julia Francine Reed in 1941 at Wheeler. She died in 1994. She was a member of First United Methodist Church, Phi Mu fraternity and had been a Red Cross volunteer for 14 years. She also was chairman of the hospital volunteers. She married Charles Russell Cuthbertson in 1946 at Concord. He died in 1985. Survivors include a son, Bill Cuthbertson of Lubbock; two granddaughters; and a great-granddaughter. Mr. Cupell was born in Briscoe County and had lived in Vega for more than 30 years. During World War II, he was a seabee with the Navy. Mr. Cupell was a farmer who did custom harvest. He also was a mechanic who owned Southside Garage and a body shop. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Vega. He married Luella in 1952 at Vega. She died in 1995. Survivors include three daughters, Arlene Neubauer of Burleson, Brenda Watkins of Amarillo and Sue Brandt of Vega; four sons, James Barnett of Paris, Don Barnett of Dublin, Roger Barnett of Vega and Charles Cupell of Amarillo; a brother, JoEd Cupell of Amarillo; a sister, Clara Belle Stodghill of Amarillo; 24 grandchildren; and 25 great-grandchildren. Lewis Ellis, pastor of Lefors First Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Memory Gardens at Pampa. Mr. Nichols was born in Sunset. He graduated from Park Springs High School in 1932 at Wise County. He had lived in Fort Sumner, N.M. for several years before moving to Pampa in 1934. He was a driller for Magnolia Oil Co. at Pampa. In 1943, he became an oil field superintendent for Clayton Dwyer Drilling Co. which later became Hawley Oil Co., located on the little Seminole Ranch south of Pampa. He retired in January after 55 years. He was a member and an elder of First Baptist Church of Lefors. He had been a deacon over 23 years. He married Viola Brainekool in 1939 at Shamrock. Survivors include his wife; three daughters, Jane Louise Blair and Mary Ann Osborn, both of Amarillo and Edith Elaine Morris of Waco; a son, Jerry K. Nichols of Amarillo; a sister, Willie Belle Baldwin of Long Beach, Calif.; and several grand- and great-grandchildren. Herb Sorrell DUMAS - Herb Sorrell, 62, died Friday, Jan. 29, 1999. Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday in Morrison Funeral Directors Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Scott Willingham, pastor of First Baptist Church of Dumas, officiating. Burial will be in Northlawn Memorial Garden by the funeral home. Mr. Sorrell was born in Salem, Ill. and had lived in Dumas since 1966. He worked for the Moore County Airport as an aircraft mechanic until his retirement 29 years later in 1995. He was an Army veteran. He married Janice Miller in 1959. Williams CHILDRESS - Johnie K. Williams, 88, died Saturday, Jan. 30, 1999. Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday in First Baptist Church with the Rev. Jim McCurley, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in the Childress Cemetery by Johnson Funeral Home. Mr. Williams was born in Portales, N.M. and moved to Childress as a young boy in a covered wagon. He graduated from Childress High School in 1928 and did chiropractor training under Dr. Cates in Childress, working until the N.Y.A. was formed. He was a supervisor of the local unit until 1941 when war was declared. He enlisted in the Army Air Corps serving four years in the Philippines and New Guinea. After returning to Childress, he worked at The Childress Index. He was co-owner of the Prather-Williams Drug Store. He also worked for Thaten Brothers Construction Co. He was a member of First Baptist Church, the Childress Heritage Museum, a board member of the Anglers and Sportsman Club, and a volunteer for Meals on Wheels. He married Alma Griffin in 1946 at Columbia, S.C. Survivors include his wife; and two daughters, Mary Cappleman of Childress and Johnie K. Wilson of Fort Worth. Berta Bell QUANAH - Berta Bell, 91, died Saturday, Jan. 30, 1999, at Vernon. Services will be at 4 p.m. today in the First Baptist Church with the Rev. Clinton Young, minister, officiating. Private graveside services were in Quanah Memorial Park by Price-Jackson Funeral Home. Mrs. Bell was born in Tivoli and moved to Quanah in 1933. She was a homemaker and a member of First Baptist Church. She graduated from San Marcos Baptist Academy and in 1929 from Baylor University. She married O.L. Bell in 1933 at Long Mott. He died in 1994. Survivors include a daughter, Steva Brinkerhoff of Quanah; and two grandchildren. Burial will be in the Garden of Memories by Seigler Funeral Home. Mrs. Henson was born in Ballinger and moved to Paducah in July from Brownwood, where she retired as a furniture store owner. She married Otto Savage in 1940 at Coleman. He died in 1967. She married Troy Henson in 1968 at Lubbock. He died in 1998. Survivors include two sons, Lewis Savage of Amarillo and Carl Savage of Paducah; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Burial will be in Memorial Park Mausoleum East by the funeral home. Mrs. Kellogg was born in Kanawa, Iowa and came to Amarillo in 1944 from Rockyford, Colo. She was a homemaker and a member of North Amarillo Christian Church. She married E.J. Kellogg in 1935. He preceded her in death. Survivors include a son, Dennis J. He worked for Phillips Petroleum for 33 years until his retirement in 1969, and was a member of Second Baptist Church. He married Evelyn Jones in 1931. He was preceded in death by a son, Mitchell Irwin, in 1995. Survivors include his wife; three sons, Vern Irwin and Jerry Irwin, both of Houston and Terry Irwin of New Orleans; a brother, Lionel Irwin of Harlingen; a sister, Thella Jones of Walsenburg, Colo.; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and two step-great-grandchildren. Oklahoma Laura Hudson HOLLIS, Okla. - Laura Hudson, 90, died Thursday, Jan. 28, 1999. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday in First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Don Hull and the Rev. Hoyt Ellis officiating. Burial will be in Fairmont Cemetery by Stewart Funeral Service of Hollis. Mrs. Hudson was born in Harmon County. She married Robert Wilson in 1926 at Dodson, Texas. They farmed in Harmon County until 1939 when they moved to Hollis. She helped with their business, Wilson Produce, until moving to Amarillo in 1957. They divorced in 1968. In 1969, she married Jody Hudson at Amarillo. They lived on the Hudson farm until moving to town in 1991. She was a member of First United Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by her second husband in 1993 and by a daughter, Grace Mildred, in 1930. Survivors include a daughter, Glenda Chevrier of Amarillo; a sister, Vivian Bilderback of Denver; six stepchildren, LeeRoy Hudson of Hollis, Ralph Hudson of Oklahoma City, Carl J. Hudson of Pharr, Texas, Margaret Boddy of Spokane, Wash., Joyce Combs of Owensboro, Ky., and Joan West of Indio, Calif.; two grandchildren; many step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren. Valentine G. Benavidez ERICK, Okla. - Valentine G. Benavidez, 80, died Thursday, Jan. 28, 1999. Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday in Erick Assembly of God Church with Charlie Floyd officiating. Burial will be in Erick Cemetery by Fatheree-Albert Funeral Home. Mr. Benavidez was born in Hebbronville, Texas. After his marriage, he lived in Robstown, Texas. In 1962, he moved to the Texas Panhandle and lived in Kelton and Wheeler until moving to Erick in 1969. He attended the Assembly of God. He married Maria C. Castro in 1938 at San Diego, Texas. He was preceded in death by his wife and a daughter. Survivors include a daughter, Susie Erwin of Wheeler; four sons, Valentine Benavidez Jr., of Hollis, Juan Benavidez of Shamrock, Ruben Benavidez of Dallas and Raul Benavidez of Erick; two brothers, Jesus Benavidez and Pablo Benavidez, both of Corpus Christi, Texas; two sisters, Fina Reyes and Julia Reyes, both of Corpus Christi; 30 grandchildren; and 44 great-grandchildren. Elsewhere Mirth Pilkinton Mirth Pilkinton, 96, a former Amarillo resident, died Tuesday, Jan. 26, 1999. Services were held Thursday in the chapel at Kemp Cemetery in Kemp. Arrangements were by Anderson-Clayton Brothers Funeral Home of Kemp. Mrs. Pilkinton was born in Mississippi and moved to Texas in 1906. She moved to Amarillo in 1943. She was a teacher in the Texas Public School System for 49 years. She was a member of the Texas State Teachers Association, Amarillo Classroom Teachers Association, Amarillo Retired Teachers Association, the Delta Kappa Gamma Society, the First Baptist Church and the Amarillo Sunday School Class. Survivors include a nephew, Bob Pilkinton of Corpus Christi. Kevin Leon Crum BROWNSVILLE - Kevin Leon Crum, 33, died Sunday, Jan. 24, 1999 at Rancho Viejo. Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Monday in First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Ralph Mann officiating. Arrangements are by Delta Funeral Directors of Brownsville. Mr. Crum was born in Waco. He graduated from Wheeler High School in Marietta, Ga. and attended Kennesaw College. He was employed in sales in Atlanta and was active in sports. He moved to Brownsville 18 months ago. Survivors include his parents, Leon and Adela Crum of Brownsville and Nancy Coyte of Marietta; a sister, Tonya Wyatt of Marietta; and two brothers, Barry Crum of Dallas and Scot Louis Crum of Brownsville. The family suggests memorials be to the American Cancer Society. Hugh Edmund Branch CUT BANK, Mont. - Hugh Edmund Branch, 80, a former resident of Miami, Texas, died Saturday, Jan. 16, 1999. Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in the Elks Lodge at Cut Bank with Burial in Crown Hill Cemetery at Cut Bank. Mr. Branch was born in Mobeetie, Texas. He graduated from Miami High School in 1936. He spent some time in the East Texas oil field, later moving to Cut Bank. He entered the service at Fort Lewis Washington in 1941 with the 194th Tank Battalion and was based in the Philippines. He was on the Death March of Bataan and was held prisoner for about three years at Cabanatuan. He was a member of the Elks, Moose and Eagles lodges and served as secretarytreasurer of the American Defenders of Bataan and Corregidor, Northwestern States Chapter for 15 years. He owned and operated the Stables Bar for 32 years. She married to Maxine Olson in 1945. She died in 1992. He also was preceded in death by a son, Bobby Hugh, in 1968. Survivors include a daughter, Kerma Morgan of Cut Bank; two sons, Steve Branch of Cut Bank and Lanny Branch of Columbia Falls, Mont.; a sister, Sara Wheeley of White Deer; and five grandchildren. The family requests memorials be to the Miami Public Library or Roberts County Museum. Oleta M. Warren AMHERST - Oleta M. Warren, 74, died Friday, Jan. 29, 1999. Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday in Fairlawn Cemetery in Amherst with the Rev. Aaron Reed officiating. Arrangements are by Muffley Funeral Home of Clovis. Mrs. Warren was born in Altus, Okla. and lived in Clovis, N.M. where she worked as a teller for Sunwest Bank and as a secretary for Dr. Goodwin's office. She moved from Clovis 25 years ago. She married J.R. Warren. He died in 1998. Survivors include a brother, Gerald Claney of Clovis; two grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
