Graveside services will be at 3 p.m. Tuesday in Rosehill Cemetery at Tulia. Arrangements are by Heartfield Funeral Home. Mrs. Prater was born in Amarillo. She retired as an operator from Southwestern Bell Telephone Co. in Amarillo. She was a Baptist. She moved to Belton four years ago. Survivors include a son, Jeffrey Scott Prater of Temple; her mother, Helen Winona Lain of Belton; a brother, Millerd Lain of Houston; a sister, Judy Kennedy of Belton; and three grandchildren. Amarillo Daily News Oct. 2, 2000 Ruth McBride HEREFORD - Ruth McBride, 77, died Sunday, Oct. 1, 2000. Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Hereford Church of the Nazarene with Pastor Ted Taylor of the church and Pastor Randy Bird of Hereford Barn Church officiating. Burial will be at 10 a.m. Thursday in Greenleaf Cemetery at Brownwood. Arrangements are by Gililland-Watson Funeral Home. Mrs. McBride was born in Brownwood and moved to Deaf Smith County in 1964 from Oldham County. A homemaker and interior designer / decorator, she was owner of Ruth McBride Interiors. She was an award-winning artist and member of Hereford Art Guild and cochairman of Hereford Bicentennial 1990. She was a honorary member and former president of Hereford Bayview Study Club. A founding director and original exhibit director of Deaf Smith County Museum, she was honorary director of the Deaf Smith County Historical Society and was appointed to the Historical Commission of Deaf Smith County. She taught Sunday school at First Baptist Church in Vega, First Baptist Church in Hereford, and Hereford Church of the Nazarene. She was a Nazarene Mission board member. She married Juston T. McBride in 1948 at Brownwood. Survivors include her husband; a daughter, Martha Ann Gilbert of Colorado Springs, Colo.; and two grandchildren. The family suggests memorials be to Hereford Church of the Nazarene; Nazarene Christian Academy; or Hereford Barn Church. Amarillo Daily News Oct. 2, 2000 Leroy Banks DALHART - Leroy Banks, 69, died Saturday, Sept. 30, 2000. Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday in Channing Cemetery at Channing. Arrangements are by Hass Funeral Home. Mr. Banks was born in Elmer, Okla., and reared in the Earth-Springlake Community. A farmer / rancher and cowboy, he worked at the LS Ranch, the Central Cattle Co., and Hope Brothers Ranches. He played baseball with the Outsiders Baseball Club. He married Doris Daley in 1957. He later married Elice Garver in 1980 at Channing. She preceded him in death. Survivors include a son, Mike Banks of Booker, Okla.; four daughters, Joe Lee Banks of Washington, Pam Banks of Lubbock, Donna Chambers of Boys Ranch, and Jackie Abernathy of Rio Rancho, N.M.; a brother, Jimmy Banks of Spring Lake; eight grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. Burial will be in Lane Memorial Cemetery at Sunray by Morrison Funeral Directors. Mrs. Gunn was born in Lamar County and had lived in Moore County since 1950. She was a homemaker. She married Frank Bennett Gunn in 1923 at Rockford. He died in 1963. Her son, Jesse "Pete" Gunn, died in 1998. Survivors include a daughter, Margie Brookmole of Dumas; a son, Norris Gunn of Lake Brownwood; nine grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and 11 greatgreat-grandchildren. Jay McGaughy, pastor of Temple Baptist Church, officiating. Arrangements are by Morrison Funeral Directors. Mr. Mulkey was born in Tulare, Calif., and was a graduate of Tascosa High School in Amarillo. A former resident of Stinnett, he worked in the oil and gas industry. He had lived in Dumas for 10 years. He married Linda Oldham in 1995 at Perryton. Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Krystle Traylor of Dumas; two sons, Denzil Traylor Jr., and Kendall Traylor, both of Dumas; his mother, Norma Jean McBroom of Stinnett; his father, Cecil Mulkey of Little Rock, Ark.; two sisters, Mandy Sue Morgan and Debbie Webb, both of Stinnett; three brothers, Lloyd Mulkey of Chickasha, Okla., Chuck Mulkey of Stillwater, Okla., and Cecil Wayne Mulkey of Stinnett; and a grandchild. He served on the Bailey County Livestock Show Board and the Bailey County Farm Bureau Board. He was a member of Enochs Church of Christ and the Three Way Lions Club. He married Betty Arnn in 1957 at Stegall. Survivors include his wife; two sons, Craig Kirby of Portales, N.M., and Brian Kirby of Three Way; a daughter, Staci Burris of Muleshoe; a sister, Ernice Weaver of Goldthwaite; eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery by Hass Funeral Home. Mr. Young was born in Sawyer, Kan., and attended school in Ashland, Kan. After graduating from high school, he worked for John Deere Co. in Ashland, John Deere Plow Co. in Dalhart, and Dalhart Implement and Mission Auto. He was a member of Central United Methodist Church, where he was church school secretary, a member of the board, Sunday school class president, and chairman of the ushering committee. He was a member of the Dalhart Lions Club, served two terms as City Councilman, and was a charter member of the XIT Rangers. He served the Boy Scouts of America as local and district chairman and served numerous positions with the Dalhart Senior Citizens Center. He married Willie Ethel Small in 1937. Survivors include his wife; three sons, Ronald Young of Broken Arrow, Okla., Paul Young of Dodge City, Kan., and Kent Young of Saginaw; a brother, Walter D. Griggs & Sons Funeral Directors, 2615 Paramount Blvd. Mrs. Thomason was born and reared on her family's tobacco farm in Franklin County, Ohio. A homemaker, she moved to Amarillo in 1952. She married William Thomason in 1926. He died in 1964. She was also preceded in death by her son, William Thomason Jr. Survivors include a daughter, Audrey Fenwick of Amarillo; a sister, Alice Worrell of Ohio; four grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and six great-greatgrandchildren. Amarillo Daily News Oct. 2, 2000 Elsewhere Jewell Stanton SHALLOWATER - Jewell Stanton, 90, died Friday, Sept. 29, 2000. Services will be at 2 p.m. today in First Baptist Church with the Rev. Mitch Wilson officiating. Burial will be in the City of Lubbock Cemetery by Sanders Funeral Home. Mrs. Stanton was born in Shallowater and attended Hardy School, Shallowater High School and graduated from Lubbock High School in 1928. In Shallowater, she was president of Home Demonstration Club and an officer in the Home Quilting Club. A homemaker, she was a member of First Baptist Church of Shallowater, the Homemakers Sunday School Class and the Glory Singers. She also taught Sunday school. She married M.T. Stanton in 1928 at Shallowater. He died in 1981. She married Frank Allen in 1985 at Lubbock. Survivors include her husband; two sons, Tommy Stanton of Dimmitt and Jay Stanton of Shallowater; two sisters, Lorene Cullison of Monticello, Fla., and Jennie Lee Sprague of Fort Worth; seven grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. Amarillo Daily News Oct. 2, 2000 Ruth Snider LUBBOCK - Ruth Snider, 91, died Saturday, Sept. 30, 2000, in Amarillo. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Resthaven Cemetery. Arrangements are by Resthaven Funeral Home. Mrs. Snider was born in Harrison, Ark. A lifetime member of the Church of Christ, she retired as a sales clerk from Harman's Department Store in Dimmitt. She moved to Amarillo from Dimmitt in 1992. She married W.C. "Bill" Snider in 1932 at Clovis, N.M. He died in 1992. Survivors include two daughters, Dana Margarete Allen of Hobart, Okla., and Vana Marie Raines of Lubbock; a son, Don Paul Snider of Amarillo; 11 grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren. Visitation will be from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. today at the funeral home. Amarillo Daily News Oct. 2, 2000 Tim Carl Norton WEATHERFORD - Tim Carl Norton, 78, died Saturday, Sept. 30, 2000. Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday in White's Funeral Home Chapel of Memories. Burial will be in Memory Gardens of the Valley Cemetery. Mr. Norton was born in Ada, Okla., and had lived in the area since 1986. During World War II, he served with the Army Air Corps. He retired from Amarillo International Airport, where he worked in maintenance. He married Minnie Lee Dowdle in 1942 at Oklahoma City. Survivors include his wife; a son, David Dale Norton of Azle; three daughters, Tammy Ann Jones, Shari Lou Byrd, and Joyce Elaine Russell, all of Weatherford; three sisters, Ruth Birdwell and Shirley Hunt, both of Ada, and Betty Benson of Dalhart; four brothers, Albert Norton of Burkburnett, Phillip Norton and Richard Norton, both of Dalhart, and Kenneth Norton of Arlington; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. Visitation will be from 6 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. today at the funeral home.
