Pruitt Jr. HEREFORD - Elvin E. Pruitt Jr., 67, died Thursday, June 1, 2000. Memorial services will be at 4 p.m. today in New Beginnings Church with the Rev. Armando Pinales, pastor, officiating. Cremation and other arrangements are by Gililland-Watson Funeral Home. Mr. Pruitt was born in Pittsburg, Kan. He served in the Army and was a mill operator for Hi-Pro Feeds. He lived in Friona from 1970 to 1989. He moved to Deaf Smith County in 1992 from Plainview. He married Bonnie Abney in 1966 at Lubbock. Survivors include his wife; five sons, Jimmy Burns of Alice, Paul Burns and Elvin Pruitt III, both of Hereford, Jesse Burns of Kress and Patrick Pruitt of Plainview; a daughter, Kristy Pruitt of Hereford; a sister, Shirley Munson of Lathrop, Mo.; and five grandchildren. Amarillo Daily News, June 3, 2000 Virgil W. Wallin Sr. PAMPA - Virgil W. "Corky" Wallin Sr., 69, died Thursday, June 1, 2000. Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. today in Memory Gardens Cemetery with the Rev. Paul Nachtigall of Highland Baptist Church officiating. Arrangements are by Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors. Mr. Wallin was born in Pampa and was a lifelong resident. He served in the Air Force during the Korean War. He was a firefighter for the city of Pampa for 20 years, retiring in 1986. He was a Baptist and Scoutmaster for First Baptist Church Troop 22. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars in Pampa and the American Legion in Miami. Mr. Wallin married Alice Heidekrueger in 1952 at Chicago. She died in 1991. He also was preceded in death by a daughter, Becky Lee, in 1959; and by a son, Kenneth Lee Wallin, in 1991. Survivors include three sons, Virgil Wade Wallin Jr. of Texas, Dennis Michael Wallin of Elk City, Okla., and Steven Timothy Wallin of Pampa; a daughter, Coralee Unruh of Pampa; a brother, Bobby Wallin of Lawton, Okla.; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. The family suggests memorials be to Pampa Sheltered Workshop or the American Heart Association. Amarillo Daily News, June 3, 2000 Everett J. Tarbox PAMPA - Everett J. Tarbox, 91, died Friday, June 2, 2000, in Amarillo. Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday in Carmichael-Whatley Colonial Chapel with the Rev. Marcus Adair, pastor of Faith Bible Center in Canyon, and the Rev. John Glover, associate pastor of First Baptist Church of Pampa, officiating. Graveside services will be at 1:30 p.m. Monday in Higgins Cemetery at Higgins. Mr. Tarbox was born in Ellis County, Okla. He had been a resident of Pampa for over 30 years, moving from Follett. He last resided in Amarillo. In 1935 he was city marshal at Higgins. In Lipscomb County he served as deputy sheriff from 1936-42 and sheriff from 1942-44. During World War II he served in the Navy, returning to Lipscomb County. He was reelected sheriff and served from 1946-60. Mr. Tarbox was Lipscomb County judge from 1963-71. He served one term on the City Council and operated motels in Pampa from 1971-78, retiring in 1978. He was a member of First Baptist Church and the Texas Sheriff's Association. He was a longtime member of the Masonic Lodge. Mr. Tarbox married Thelma Murl Crites in 1931 at Arnett, Okla. She died in 1996. Survivors include a son, Dr. Everett J. Tarbox, Jr. of Highlands, N.C.; a brother, Clyde Tarbox of Amarillo; four grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. The family suggests memorials to First Baptist Church of Pampa. Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. today in Dumas Cemetery with Allen Kramer, minister of Fifth and Meredith Church of Christ, officiating. Arrangements are by Morrison Funeral Directors. Mr. Six was born in Alanreed and lived in Dumas 21 years. He served in the Army and was a retired carpenter. Mr. Six is survived by a sister, Valda Foyil of Dumas. The family will be at 203 N. Meredith. Amarillo Daily News, June 3, 2000 Hal C. Kester HEREFORD - Hal C. Kester, 87, formerly of Hereford, died Wednesday, May 17, 2000, in Poulsbo, Wash. Memorial services will be later. Cremation and arrangements by Stone Chapel of Poulsbo, Wash. Mr. Kester was born in Mertzon and had lived in Lockney and Hereford, where he graduated from high school. He studied watchmaking as an apprentice to his older brother in Glenwood Springs, Colo., and in Denver. He married Lueta Borden in 1939 at Hereford and they settled in Denver. During World War II they lived in Seattle, where he worked as an inspection supervisor at the Boeing aircraft factory. After the war they moved to Bainbridge Island and he worked at a jewelry store in Seattle. After he retired they moved to Poulsbo. Survivors include his wife; a son, Charles Kester of Shoreline, Wash.; a daughter, Katrina O'Neill of Coeur d'Alene, Idaho; a sister, Nell Culpepper of Hereford; and two grandchildren. Amarillo Daily News, June 3, 2000 Herschel Montgomery MEMPHIS - Herschel Montgomery, 92, formerly of Memphis, died Thursday, June 1, 2000, in Richardson. Services will be at 3 p.m. today in Memphis Funeral Home Chapel with Tom Posey officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery. Mr. Montgomery was a former resident of Memphis and lived in Richardson the past 47 years. During World War II he served in the South Pacific with the Army 51st Hospital. He was a proofreader for the Dallas Times Herald for 35 years and a member of the Memphis Veterans of Foreign Wars. He married Maurine Thompson in 1946 at Amarillo. He is survived by his wife and several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends this morning at the home of brother Edwin Thompson in Memphis. Burial will be in Lane Memorial Cemetery at Sunray. Mrs. Lawley was born in Newcastle and had lived in Dumas and Moore County since 1937. She was a homemaker and member of the Church of God of Borger. She married W.E. "Red" Lawley in 1931 at Sayre, Okla. He died in 1996. Survivors include three sons, L.K. "Buck" Lawley of Weatherford, Weldon Lawley of Canyon and Estle Lawley of Bullhead City, Ariz.; a sister, Inez Messer of Twitty; eight grandchildren; 14 greatgrandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren. Ms. Harris was born in Baca County, Colo. She was a graduate of Muleshoe High School and attended a business school in Amarillo. She helped run the family farm and worked as a secretary and assistant for a doctor in Ann Arbor, Mich. She was a homemaker and a member of the 16th and Avenue D Church of Christ. She is survived by two sisters, Faye Aldersen of Baker, Ore., and Opal Harris of Lubbock. Mrs. Orona was born in Ojinaga, Chihuahua, Mexico and had lived in Borger 34 years. She was a homemaker and a member of St. John's Catholic Church. She was a nurses aide at Shamrock General Hospital and Parkview Hospital in Wheeler for several years. She also worked for Shepards Crook Home Health Agency in Wheeler. She was a member of First Baptist Church. She married Leo Lamb in 1946 at Lela. He died in 1979. He owned M&R Insulation and Universal Builders Inc. He was active in the Builder's Association and received the Associate of the Year award. He served on the Board of City Development. He was a former race car driver at the Amarillo Speed Bowl. He was a member of Paramount Terrace Christian Church, Moose Lodge, Masonic Lodge No. 1330, Lubbock Consistory of Scottish Rite and Khiva Temple. He was also was past president of the patrol unit. He married Robbie Thrasher in 1953 at Amarillo. Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Terri Hawkins of Amarillo; a son, Jerry Sinclair of Lakeland, Fla.; three sisters, Pat Tyler and Rose Hadaway, both of Amarillo, and Elsie Barnett of Oklahoma City; three brothers, B.G. He was an independent truck driver and worked for O.T.R. of Olathe, Kan. He was a member of the Trucker's Chapel. He married Daryline Caywood in 1977 at Amarillo. Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Leslie Carranza and Elizabeth, both of Amarillo; five sons, Chris Sharp of Amarillo, Kyle Sharp of Comanche, Eric Wolters of Amarillo, Ralph Mollett Jr. of Hinesville, Ga., and Paul Mollett of St. Paul, Minn.; and seven grandchildren. Barnett in 1926 at Knox City. He died in 1957. Eddie Tubbs, pastor of First Baptist Church, officiating. Graveside services will be at 4 p.m. Monday in Llano Cemetery at Amarillo. Mrs. Erhardt was born in Shawnee, Okla., and moved to Big Spring in 1955. She worked as a nurse and X-ray technician at Big Spring State Hospital for 15 years. She was a member of Rebekah Lodge and Phi Sigma Alpha. She was a member of First Baptist Church and worked in the pre-school department and library for many years. She was a member of the senior choir and sang at nursing homes. She married Marvin Richey Erhardt in 1941 at Amarillo. He died in 1957. She also was preceded in death by a son, Marvin Thomas Erhardt, in 1974. Survivors include several nieces and nephews.
