Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2820 Virginia Circle. Mr. Heidel was born in Durango, Colo. During World War II, he served in the Navy. He received his bachelor's degree in recreation and parks from Texas A&M University in 1986. Prior to moving to Amarillo in 1998, Mr. Heidel lived in El Paso and Grand Junction, Colo. He retired as records manager from El Paso Natural Gas. He was a member of Beautiful Savior Lutheran Church. He married Joyce Jonz in 1953 at Las Cruces, N.M. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Jodie Baker, and by a son, John Barton Heidel. She graduated from West Plains High School then Burge Hospital School of Nursing in 1928. She was a nurse in hospitals in Lebanon and Springfield. During World War II, Ms. Gardner worked in war plants as an industrial nurse. She later was a nurse for Western Auto in Kansas City, Mo. She retired in 1971 and moved to Amarillo. She was a Methodist. Survivors include a niece, Veda Holman of Amarillo; a nephew, Al Geisler of Amarillo; four great-nieces; a greatnephew; and nine great-grand nieces and nephews. During World War II, he served in the Army. In 1986, he retired after 33 years as a lineman for Southwestern Bell Telephone. He also worked for the Amarillo Police Department for three years. Mr. Mathis was a Baptist and member of Southwestern Bell Pioneers. He married Billie Reece Cloude in 1952 at Clovis, N.M. He was preceded in death by his wife in 1992 and by a daughter, DeLinda Owens, in 1978. Survivors include three sons, Melvin Mathis of Wichita Falls and Gary Mathis and Wade Mathis, both of Amarillo; two daughters, Sharron Mathis of Amarillo and Colleen Schantz of Glen Ullin, N.D.; a brother, Billy Ray Mathis of Lawton, Okla.; a sister, Betty Seavers of Wichita Falls; and seven grandchildren. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. today in Friona Cemetery with Monsignor Blume of St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Hereford officiating. Mass was celebrated Monday in Del City, Okla. Arrangements are by Ellis-Blackwell Funeral Home. Mr. Southall was born in Friona. He graduated from Hereford High School in 1950. He attended Texas Tech University and graduated from the University of Texas at El Paso. He served in the Army between 1954 and 1956 and then was in the Army Reserve until 1964. He earned a master's degree from the University of Oregon in Eugene, Ore., and then earned his doctorate in mathematics from the University of Texas at Austin. He taught mathematics in several Texas high school and at the University of Texas at Austin. Mr. Southall lived in Friona for 10 years and was active in St. Teresa Catholic Church. Prior to moving to Norman, Okla., three years ago, he lived in Amarillo. While in Amarillo, he had helped homeless men through Another Chance House. John Rollinson officiating. Burial will be in Lawn Haven Memorial Gardens. Mr. Ollom was born in Jeffers, Minn. He served in the Marine Corps on the USS Missouri and USS Breckenridge during World War II. He moved to Clovis in 1969. When the Swift plant in Clovis closed, he moved to Omaha, Neb., for two years. He retired from Swift after 41 years and moved back to Clovis. He was a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 295 in South St. Paul, Minn. He also was a member of the AFL-CIO. Ollom of St. Paul; and four grandchildren. Amarillo Daily News, Jan. 6, 2000 Neal E. Strader CLOVIS, N.M. - Neal E. Strader, 64, died Jan. 4, 2000. Services will be at 2:30 p.m. Friday in Muffley Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. James R. Burke officiating. Burial will be in Mission Garden of Memories at a later date. Arrangements are by Muffley Funeral Home Inc. of Clovis. Mr. Strader was born in Houghton, Kan. He was a 1952 graduate of Satanta High School in Satanta, Kan. After high school he entered the U.S. Air Force. He was stationed at Cannon Air Force Base from 1950 until 1956, serving in the Korean War. Mr. Strader graduated from West Texas State University with a bachelor's degree. He moved to San Antonio in 1970 and worked as a credit manager for Azrock Industries for 28 years. He also was a real estate agent, a member of National Realtors Association and was active in Cub Scouts of America. After his retirement in 1998, Mr. Strader returned to Clovis. He married Dawn Coffey in 1958 at Amarillo. Survivors include his wife, Dawn Strader; three sons, Mike Strader of Clovis, Steve Strader of Corpus Christi, Texas and Joel Strader of San Antonio; one brother, Rodney Rooney of Satanta; a sister, Vickie McDonald of Chanute, Kan.; and one grandchild. Amarillo Daily News, Jan. 6, 2000 Oklahoma Glenn Grounds HOOKER, Okla. - Glenn Grounds, 79, formerly of Hooker, died Tuesday, Jan. 4, 2000. Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday in the Church of Christ with Neville Buchanan and Lloyd Riddles of Sunset Lane Baptist Church in Guymon officiating. Burial will be in the Hooker Cemetery with John Maynard officiating. Arrangements are by Robert Brothers Funeral Home. Mr. Grounds was born in Hooker. In 1937, he moved to Puyallup, Wash., where he joined the Civilian Conservation Corps and later served in the National Guard. He also served six years in the Army during World War II. He then moved back to Hooker, where he married Vera Bertha Oxley in 1950. Mr. Grounds worked as a butcher in several stores, and he and his wife later owned and operated 54 Diner. Mrs. Grounds died in 1991. He was living in Guymon at the time of his death. He was a member of the Church of Christ. Survivors include a son, Larry Glenn Grounds of Guymon; two daughters, Rhonda Kay Critcher and Carolyn Lee Keith, both of Hooker; a brothers, D.J. Grounds of Puyallup; two sisters, Imogene Hill of Hooker and Marvella Massie of Tacoma, Wash.; seven grandchildren; and a great-granddaughter. Summar EDMOND, Okla. - Melvin H. Summar, 78, died Tuesday, Jan. 4, 2000. Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday in Highland Park Baptist Church. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery by Baggerley Funeral Home. Mr. Summar was born in Bovina and served with the Army Air Corps during World War II. He worked for the MKT and Rock Island Railroads. In 1984, he retired from Kerr McGee and spent 15 years in Bella Vista, Ark.. He married Dorothy Dee Scott in 1946 at Amarillo. Survivors include his wife; two sons, Kenneth Summar of Edmond and Richard Summar of Plano, Texas; a sister, Edith Bray of Amarillo; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Mrs. Christie was born in No Man's Land, Indian Territory, and attended school at Elmwood, Okla., through the eighth grade. She was a cook and dressmaker. She married Ira Lee Christie. He died in 1960. She also was preceded in death by infant twins. She is survived by a brother, Francis M. Parker of Liberal, Kan. Bowman Memorial Chapel of First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Keith Wiseman officiating. Burial will be in Resthaven Cemetery by Rix Funeral Directors. Mrs. Robinson was born in Blackwell. She moved with her family to Lubbock in 1930 and graduated from Lubbock High School and Texas Tech University. She worked at Reese Air Force Base, the Lubbock County Clerk's Office and then for the Dean of the College of Education at Texas Tech University. She retired in 1981. She received the Top Techsan Staff Award from the Texas Tech Ex-Students Association in 1981. She was a member of First United Methodist Church. She married Rayburn Robinson in 1945 at Crosbyton. He died in 1971. Survivors include nieces and nephews, including Terrie Turner of Dumas. She was a longtime USC women's basketball administrative assistant and had been a USC employee since 1980.
