Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Neely Landrum, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery by N.S. Griggs & Sons Funeral Directors, 2615 Paramount Blvd., in Amarillo. Mr. Chamberlain was born and raised in Clarendon. He farmed at Spade Flat in Donley County before moving to Memphis in 1935. He was a cotton buyer in Memphis until 1962, when he moved to Lubbock. He then worked as a cotton classer for South Plains Co-op. He retired in 1974 and returned to Memphis. He was living in Amarillo at the time of his death. He was a member of First United Methodist Church and the Victory Sunday school class. He married Helen Goldston in 1934 at Clarendon. She died in 1996. Survivors include a son, John Chamberlain of Memphis; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. The family suggests memorials be to First United Methodist Church. Amarillo Daily News, Oct. 6, 2000 Tomas Martinez PLAINVIEW - Tomas "Tommy" Martinez, 54, died Tuesday, Oct. 3, 2000. Rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. today in Lemons Funeral Home Chapel. Services will be at 3 p.m. Saturday in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Benito Hinojosa of Alpha and Omega Baptist Church officiating. Burial will be in Plainview Memorial Park. Mr. Martinez was born in Rotan and attended school in Plainview. In 1967, he moved to Lampasas and worked at Producers Produce. He moved to Plainview in 1977 and did maintenance work at Excel beef packers. He retired in February. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and held office in the Aaronic priesthood. Mr. Martinez married Ermina Rangel in 1968 at Lampasas. They later divorced. He was preceded in death by a son, Marcial Martinez II. Survivors include four daughters, Lisa Martinez, Jobita Lopez, Rebecca Pulido and Benita Martinez, all of Plainview; a son, Marcial Martinez III of Plainview; four sisters, Juanita Vera, Marge Diaz and Mary Lou Martinez, all of Plainview and Ramona Rodriguez of Phoenix; a brother, Santos Martinez of Plainview; and nine grandchildren. Williams, 73, of Amarillo, died Sunday, Oct. 1, 2000. Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in Mount Olive Baptist Church with the Rev. V. P. Perry, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Llano Cemetery by WarfordWalker Mortuary, 509 N. Hughes St. Mr. Williams was born in Bryan. In 1929 he moved to Amarillo, where he attended public schools and graduated with honors in 1946. He received his bachelor's degree at Sam Houston College and a master's degree in science and mathematics from Texas Southern University in Houston. He was a teacher with Amarillo Independent School District. He was a Baptist. He married Dorothy Sheperd in 1952. Survivors include four sons, Dennye Williams of Dallas, Dwight Williams of Cottonwood, Calif., Robin Williams of Valejo, Calif., and Lowell Williams of Daly City, Calif.; a daughter, Lorrye Williams of Daly City; his mother, Georgia Williams of Amarillo; and a brother, Douglas Williams of Amarillo. The family will be at 211 S. Van Buren St. Amarillo Daily News, Oct. 6, 2000 Virginia York Virginia York, 86, of Amarillo, died Wednesday, Oct. 4, 2000. Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in Caudle-Rutledge Funeral Directors at Lindale. Burial will be in the Lindale Cemetery. Local arrangements are by Blackburn-Shaw Funeral Directors Memorial Chapel, Fifth Avenue and Pierce Street. Mrs. York was born in Dallas and grew up in Lindale. She graduated from Tyler High School. She taught in Mount Sylvan before opening York Hardware and Furniture Store and Dress Shop with her husband. After retiring, she worked for Flemings Dress Shop. In Lindale, she was a past Worthy Matron of the Order of the Eastern Star and was a member of First Baptist Church and the Esther Sunday school class. She moved to Amarillo in 1997 from Lindale. She married Leon "Punk" York in 1933. He died in 1960. Survivors include a son, Leon "Sonny" York of Amarillo; and a special friend, Jeannette Angel. Amarillo Daily News, Oct. 6, 2000 Carmen Sanchez Carmen Sanchez, 78, of Amarillo, died Thursday, Oct. 5, 2000. Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. today in Llano Cemetery with her daughter, Mary Carmen Perez, minister of Assembly of God, officiating. Arrangements are by Rector Funeral Home, 2800 S. Osage St. Mrs. Sanchez was born in Durango, Mexico. She moved to Amarillo in 1999. She was a homemaker. She married Alejandro Perez in 1942 at Mexico. He died in 1993. Survivors include five daughters, Josefina Perez of Mexico, Mary Carmen Perez of Dallas and Maria Lavato, Carmen Calzada and Bertha Perez, all of Amarillo; three sons, Eliseo Perez and Jose Manuel Perez, both of Mexico, and Ruben Perez of Amarillo; a sister, Rosa Rodriguez of Mexico; three brothers, Agustin Rodriguez, Fernando Rodriguez and Juan Rodriguez, all of Mexico; 15 grandchildren; and one great-grandson. The family will be at 1958 S. Woodland St. Amarillo Daily News, Oct. 6, 2000 Kenneth Edward King Kenneth Edward King, 44, of Amarillo, died Thursday, Oct. 5, 2000. Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in Memorial Park Funeral Home, Chapel of Memories, 6969 E. Interstate 40, with the Rev. Winston Curtis, of Highland Baptist Church in Duncan, Okla., and Roger Smith, of Southwest Seminary in Dallas, officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery with a flag presentation by the Disabled American Veterans Chapter No. 26 of Amarillo. Mr. King was born in Albuquerque, N.M. He graduated from Roswell High School in Roswell, N.M. He was a disabled veteran and was a volunteer at the Department of Veterans Affairs Health Care System. Survivors include four sisters, Carla Keiber and Myra McGilvary, both of Amarillo, Kathleen Curtis of Duncan and Patti King of Roswell; a brother, Michael King; his mother, Elsie King of Amarillo; and two grandchildren. Amarillo Daily News, Oct. 6, 2000 New Mexico Chad Smith CLOVIS, N.M. - Chad Smith, 30, died Wednesday, Oct. 4, 2000. Services will be at 3 p.m. Saturday in Grace Fellowship Church with the Rev. Brad Mahan, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Lawn Haven Memorial Gardens by Muffley Funeral Home Inc. Mr. Smith was born in Albuquerque and was a longtime resident of Clovis. He was a member of the Wildcat football team from 1985 to 1987. He earned his associate degree in digital electronics at Clovis Community College. He was a technician in the electronics department at Excel and a member of the Grace Fellowship Church. He married Jennifer Leigh Scroggins in 1992 at Clovis. Survivors include his wife; two sons, Cody Shane Smith and Dylan Quinn Smith; a daughter, Brittany Denay Smith; his parents, Clark H. and Carolyn Pate Smith of Clovis; a sister, Charlotte Whitbeck of Clovis; and a grandfather, Jack Pate of Albuquerque. Amarillo Daily News, Oct. 6, 2000 Mildred Adeline Wallace CLOVIS, N.M. - Mildred Adeline "Mickey" Wallace, 93, died Wednesday, Oct. 4, 2000. Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in Steed-Todd Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Lance Clemmons officiating. Burial will be in Lawn Haven Memorial Gardens. Mrs. Wallace was born in Taylor County, Iowa, and moved to Wagon Mound in 1924. She had lived in Harper, Kan.; Las Vegas, N.M.; and Amarillo before moving to Clovis in 1951. She was a homemaker and a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, the Daughters of the Nile and the First Presbyterian Church. Survivors include two sons, James Paul Wallace of Frisco, Texas, and Roger Bryant Wallace of New Stanton, Pa.; a daughter, Mary Belle Fulcher of Clovis; nine grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. She married James Bryant Wallace in 1925. He preceded her in death. The family suggests memorials be to the American Cancer Society. The family will be at 1720 S. Prince. Amarillo Daily News, Oct. 6, 2000 Oklahoma Charles James Rankin SHATTUCK, Okla. - Charles James "Jim" Rankin, 58, died Tuesday, Oct. 3, 2000, in Woodward. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. today in Shattuck Memorial Cemetery with the Rev. Jess Willsie and the Rev. Kenny Platte officiating. Arrangements are by Good Samaritan Funeral Service. Mr. Rankin was born in Delhi. He trained race horses across the United States for Walter Merrick. In 1963, he lived in Amarillo and was a truck driver. In 1980 he moved to Shattuck after living in northwest Oklahoma communities. He married Charlene Winter in 1963 at Amarillo. He married Louise Cordell in 1975 at Wellington. Survivors include his wife; a son, Jackie Rankin of Amarillo; a daughter, Donna Kaye McCarty of Amarillo; two brothers, Bob Hodgson of Elgin and David Rankin of Sayre; two sisters, Jessie McKinse of Pampa, Texas, and Judy Schumm of Sayre; and two grandchildren.
