Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in First Baptist Church of Spur with the Rev. Richard Harbison, pastor, officiating. Cremation and arrangements by Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors. Mrs. Gruben was born in Townsville. She attended North Texas State University in Denton and taught school in Spur. She had lived in Spur since 1921 and moved to Pampa in 1984. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Spur. She married Henry C. Gruben in 1922 at Spur. He died in 1984. Survivors include a son, Henry W. Gruben of Pampa; a sister, Gladys West of Lubbock; two grandsons; and a greatgranddaughter. The family suggests memorials be to First Baptist Church of Spur; or a favorite charity. The body will not be available for viewing. Amarillo Daily News, Dec. 7, 2000 George Bernard Ray SPEARMAN - George Bernard Ray, 73, of Spearman and formerly of Adams and Hardesty, Okla., died Tuesday, Dec. 5, 2000. Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday in Adams Mennonite Brethren Church at Adams with John Flaming and Frank Hubert, pastors, officiating. Burial will be in Hartville Cemetery of Hardesty by Henson-Novak Funeral Directors of Guymon, Okla. Mr. Ray was born in Dombey, Okla. He was a World War II Army Air Corps veteran. He had worked for Panhandle Eastern Pipeline and Anadarko Productions, transferring to area places, including Liberal, Kan., Aztec, N.M., Adams and Hardesty. He moved to Spearman in 1997. He was a member of the Adams Mennonite Brethren Church. He married Ida M. Collinsworth in 1948 at Hardesty, Okla. Survivors include his wife; three sons, Michael Ray of Liberal, Monty Ray of Aztec and Steve Ray of Lewisville; a daughter, Cindy Ray Trent of Hardesty; eight grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. The family suggests memorials be to the American Cancer Society; or the Hartville Cemetery. Memorials will be accepted at the funeral home. Amarillo Daily News, Dec. 7, 2000 Ruby Pearl Collins PAMPA - Ruby Pearl Collins, 76, died Tuesday, Dec. 5, 2000, in Houston. Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday in Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors Colonial Chapel with the Rev. Norman Rushing, pastor of First Baptist Church of Childress, officiating. Burial will be in Memory Gardens Cemetery. Mrs. Collins was born in Yale, Okla., and had lived in Pampa for 45 years before moving to Houston in 1995. She was a homemaker and a former member of the Fellowship Baptist Church. She married Buster Collins in 1944 at Durham, Okla. He died in 1990. Survivors include four sons, Perry Collins of Houston, Kenneth Collins of Copperas Cove, Wayne Collins of Leoti, Kan., and Buster Collins Jr. of Scottsboro, Ala.; two daughters, Susan Ballard of Houston and Yvonne Piontkowski of Grand Island, Neb.; two brothers, Elmo Gibson of Oklahoma City and Merle Gibson of Pryor, Okla.; two sisters, Laura Freeman of Oklahoma City and Delores Sanders of Corpus Christi; 10 grandchildren; great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home. Amarillo Daily News, Dec. 7, 2000 Jimmie Marvin Brewer PADUCAH - Jimmie Marvin Brewer, 66, died Tuesday, Dec. 5, 2000. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Friday in Paducah Garden of Memories Cemetery with Richard Gregory officiating. Arrangements are by Seigler Funeral Home. Mr. Brewer was born in Comanche, Okla. He was a truck driver and he and his wife operated a hotel in Paducah. He was a member of the First Baptist Church. He married Brenda Sossaman in 1961 at Woodrow. Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Suzette Conyer of Gould, Ark.; a brother, John Brewer of Killeen; and a grandson. Amarillo Daily News, Dec. 7, 2000 Ruby Burkhalter DUMAS - Ruby Burkhalter, 94, died Wednesday, Dec. 6, 2000. Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday in Temple Baptist Church with the Rev. Jay McGaughy, pastor, and the Rev. Doug Harris, associate pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Texhoma Cemetery at Texhoma by Morrison Funeral Directors. Mrs. Burkhalter was born in Crescent, Okla. She moved from Sedan, N.M., to Moore County in 1968. She was a homemaker and a member of the First Baptist Church in Etter. She married David Burkhalter in 1930 at Logan, Okla. He died in 1972. Survivors include a daughter, Monee Grubb of Pawnee, Okla.; a son, Bill Burkhalter of Dumas; six grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren. The family suggests memorials be to Temple Baptist Church, 311 N. Maddox, Dumas, TX 79029; or a favorite charity. The family will be at 403 Spruce. Amarillo Daily News, Dec. 7, 2000 Elsewhere Mildred L. Miller CORPUS CHRISTI - Mildred L. Spieth Madery- Miller, 82, died Monday, Nov. 27, 2000. Services were at 10 a.m. Monday in Steed-Todd Funeral Home of Clovis, N.M. with Larry Tedrow officiating. Burial was in Lawn Haven Memorial Gardens. Mrs. Miller was born in Bantry, N.D. She graduated from Western Union College in 1940. She married Harold E. Madery in Coggon, Iowa, in 1940. In 1949 they moved to Clovis where they operated Madery's Flowerland. He died in 1969. She continued to operated their business, retiring in 1987. She was past president of Soroptimist Club and the Benevolent Protective Order Does No. 108, and active in florist organizations and church activities. She was church organist for many years at Central Christian Church. She married J. Le Roy Miller in 1988 and moved to Corpus Christi. Survivors include her husband; a son, Ron Madery of Taft, Calif.; a daughter, Camille Madery Pavao of Houston; two stepdaughters, Sharolyn Linton of Corpus Christi and Susan Green of Lockhart; and three grandchildren. Amarillo Daily News, Dec. 5, 2000 Josephine Killebrew NEODESHA, Kan. - Josephine Noret "Jo" Killebrew, 82, died Tuesday, Nov. 28, 2000. Services were at 2 p.m. Friday in Loran Fawcett Funeral Home with the Rev. Carl K. Ellis officiating. Burial was in Neodesha Cemetery. Mrs. Killebrew was born in St. Joseph, Mo., where she graduated from Oak Grove High School. She attended Fort Scott Junior College and graduated from Pittsburg State University in 1963. She taught grade school and kindergarten for 26 years, five years in Missouri and Kansas schools and 21 years of kindergarten in Neodesha. She was a member of Neodesha United Methodist Church and United Methodist Women. She was a Worthy Matron of the Order of the Eastern Star. She was a member of the National Education Association, the Tuesday Club and the Delta Kappa Gamma Society. She married Oris R. Killebrew in 1943 at Galveston, Texas. Survivors include her husband; two sons, Lewis G. Killebrew of Amarillo and John R. Killebrew of Ocala, Fla.; a brother, Eldon Hellums of Savannah, Mo.; and four grandsons. The family suggests memorials be to Neodesha United Methodist Church. Memorial will be accepted at the funeral home. Amarillo Daily News, Dec. 5, 2000 New Mexico David Harley Butler CLAYTON, N.M. - David Harley Butler, 52, died Friday, Dec. 1, 2000, in Las Vegas, Nev. Memorial services will be at 1 p.m., Saturday in Hass Funeral Home with P. Louis Montoya, deacon, officiating. Interment of cremains will be in Clayton Memorial Cemetery. Mr. Butler was born in Albuquerque. He was a 1966 graduate of Clayton High School and attended the University of New Mexico and New Mexico State University, where he earned an associate degree in business. He served eight years in the Navy Nuclear Submarine Division, obtaining the rank of chief petty officer. He had lived in Las Vegas since 1995. Survivors include his twin sister, Diana Butler Foreman of Danville, Ky.; and a brother, Donald J. Butler of Clayton. The family suggests memorials be to Union County General Hospital Memorial Fund, 301 Harding St., Clayton, NM 88415. Amarillo Daily News, Dec. 7, 2000 Oklahoma V.E. Lowe MCLEAN - V.E. "Barney" Lowe, 84, died Monday, Dec. 4, 2000. Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday in First Baptist Church with the Rev. Z.A. Myers and Brian Quisenberry, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Hillcrest Cemetery by Lamb Funeral Home. Mr. Lowe was born in Pushmataha County, Okla. He had lived in McLean for the past 50 years. He was a retired rancher and a member of the Jumbo Baptist Church of Oklahoma. He married Betty Payne in 1938 at Pushmataha County. Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Jessie Bailey and Judy Green, both of Amarillo; a sister, Mary Varco of Bend, Ore.; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and a great-greatgrandchild. The family suggests memorials be to McLean Care Center Activity Fund, Box 780, McLean, TX 79057. The family will be at the Lowe residence. Amarillo Daily News, Dec. 7, 2000 Hurlie Lee Reed BOISE CITY, Okla. - Hurlie Lee Reed, 85, died Tuesday, Dec. 5, 2000, in Springfield, Colo. Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday in Cimarron Mortuary Chapel with Frank Lynch officiating. Burial will be in Boise City Cemetery. Mr. Reed was born in Grand Prairie, Texas, and at an early age moved to Mount Dora, N.M. He attended schools in Mount Dora and Clayton, N.M., and graduated from high school in 1933. He moved to Boise City in 1942. During World War II, he served in the military at the Aleutian Islands. He was a butcher for Coly's and Ideal Grocery Stores. Mr. Reed was a member of the First Baptist Church and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 5092. He married Hazel Terry in 1937 at Springer, N.M. He was preceded in death by his son, Carl Reed, in 1970. Survivors include his wife; a brother, Lawrence Reed of Mount Dora; two granddaughters; and two great-granddaughters. The family suggests memorials be to Senior Citizens Center, Boise City; or Southeast Colorado Alzheimer's Long Term Care Unit in Springfield, Colo. Memorials will be accepted by the funeral home.
