Collier FRIONA - Robert E. "Preach" Collier, 76, died Saturday, Feb. 5, 2000. Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday in Calvary Baptist Church with the Rev. Alvin Petty, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Friona Cemetery by Ellis-Blackwell Funeral Home. Mr. Collier was born in Wellington and moved to Friona in 1929. Before running Preach's Shop in Friona before his retirement, he worked for Ford Motor Company at Friona Motors and Watson Motors in Hereford. He served with the Navy during World War II and was a member of the American Legion and First Baptist Church of Friona. He was a scoutmaster in Friona. He married Mary Lou Harrelson in 1973 at Clovis, N.M. She died in 1999. Survivors include a daughter, Rita Richardson of West Jordan, Utah; a son, Darrell Collier of Seagraves; a stepson, Les Harrelson of Clovis; a brother, G.A. Collier Jr., of Amarillo; a sister, Nelda Jo Tedford of Fayetteville, Ark.; 10 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. Amarillo Daily News Feb. 7, 2000 Sue Duncan PLAINVIEW - Sue Duncan, 75, died Friday, Feb. 4, 2000. Graveside services will be at 10:30 a.m. today in Parklawn Memorial Gardens Cemetery with the Rev. Jim Ritter, pastor of Seth Ward Baptist Church, officiating. Arrangements are by Lemons Funeral Home. Mrs. Duncan was born in Vardaman, Miss., where she graduated from high school. From 1949 until 1959, she lived in Henderson, Ky. In 1959, she moved to Plainview, where she was a member of Seth Ward Baptist Church. She married J.B. "Bill" Duncan in 1959 at Henderson. He died in 1982. Survivors include three nieces, Phyllis Lafferty of Hagerstown, Md., Nancy Price of Greenville, Ky., and Carolyn Burdon of Louisville, Ky.; a brother-inlaw; two sisters-in-law; six great-nieces; two great-nephews; a great-great-niece; and two great-great-nephews. Amarillo Daily News Feb. 7, 2000 Lola B. Holmes Brannon SHAMROCK - Lola B. Holmes Brannon, 85, died Saturday, Feb. 5, 2000. Services will be at 3 p.m. Tuesday in First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Steve Rogers, former pastor, of Lubbock, and the Rev. John Dorn, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Shamrock Cemetery by Wright Funeral Directors. Mrs. Brannon was born in Shamrock, where she was a public school music teacher. In 1930, she graduated from Shamrock High School and was crowned Miss Shamrock. She studied music at Texas State College for Women in Denton and then Juilliard Conservatory in New York City. From 1934 until 1981, she gave private piano lessons and was a state theory examiner for band and piano students. She helped found a concert series in Shamrock and worked on the city's St. Patrick's Day celebrations. She served as organist for First United Methodist Church of Shamrock. In 1987, she received the Texas Panhandle Distinguished Women's Service in Fine Arts Award and was recognized by the Amarillo Women's Forum for outstanding community service. She married H. Cabot Brannon in 1934 at Shamrock. They operated Shamrock's Builder's Supply. Mrs. Brannon was a member of the Thursday Fine Arts Club, 1935 Forum Club, First United Methodist Church of Shamrock, and past president of the library board. Survivors include her husband; a son, Holmes Mauney Brannon of Fort Worth; a daughter, Ann Brannon Graves of Kermit; a brother, William Worth Holmes of Beverly Shores, Ind.; and five grandchildren. The family suggests, in lieu of flowers, memorials be to Shamrock Public Library. Amarillo Daily News Feb. 7, 2000 Taylor Scott Genn DUMAS - Taylor Scott Genn, 75, died Saturday, Feb. 5, 2000. Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. today in Northlawn Memorial Gardens with the Rev. Jay McGaughy, pastor of Temple Baptist Church, officiating. Arrangements are by Morrison Funeral Directors. Mr. Genn was born in Oklahoma and retired from American Zinc as a master electrician. Before moving to Amarillo in 1995, he lived in Stinnett and was a longtime resident of Dumas. His wife, Betty Genn, died in 1993. Survivors include a daughter, Joyce Godfrey of Dumas; a son, Odell Genn of Spearman; three brothers, Bill Genn of Midland, Gene Genn of Clayton, N.M., and Frankie Odell Genn of Amarillo; two sisters, Pauline David of Amarillo and Geraldine Barnes of Midtown, Calif.; and three grandchildren. Amarillo Daily News Feb. 7, 2000 Amarillo Enrique Almanzar Enrique Almanzar, 98, of Amarillo, died Friday, Feb. 4, 2000. Rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. today in Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. Mass will be at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday in Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church with the Rev. Rosendo Herrera of the church officiating. Burial will be in Llano Cemetery by Blackburn-Shaw Funeral Directors, Memorial Chapel, Fifth Avenue and Pierce Street. Mr. Almanzar was born in Gallegos, N.M., and moved to Amarillo 68 years ago. He retired from Fort Worth and Denver Railroad. He was a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. He married Paula Salas in 1946. She died in 1982. Survivors include five daughters, Nellie Hernandez, Rosa Solis, Louisa Salinas, and Dominga Almanzar, all of Amarillo, and Maria Almanzar of Hereford; two sons, Joe Almanzar of Salt Lake City and Antonio Almanzar of Abilene; a stepson, Ricardo Mendez of Amarillo; 42 grandchildren; 45 great-grandchildren; and 26 great-great-grandchildren. Burial will be in Memory Gardens Cemetery by Schooler-Gordon Funeral Directors, 5400 Bell St. Mr. Jenkins was born in Hall County and moved to Amarillo from Dumas in 1995. He served with the Army during World War II. He retired as an Amarillo Globe-News distributor for Perryton, Pampa, Panhandle and Dumas. He also was in the insurance business. He married Juanita Bruce in 1948 at Childress. She was raised by her grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. James N. Garrison of Panhandle, and graduated from Panhandle High School in 1952. Before moving to Amarillo, she lived in Lubbock and Albuquerque, N.M. She was preceded in death by her son, Jason Harry Wagner. Survivors include a daughter, Kelly Wagner of Amarillo; three brothers, Vince Cristiano of Erie, Pa., and James N. Garretson and Jerry Garretson, both of Amarillo; two sisters, Georgia Baughman of Kingman, Kan., and Frances Cristiano of Erie; two grandchildren; and a greatgrandchild. Mrs. Wheeler was born in Verden, Okla. Her husband, Ferrell Wheeler, died in 1999.
