Williams L.O.D. Williams, 73, of Amarillo, died Sunday, Oct. 1, 2000. Services will be at 11 a.m. today in Mount Zion Baptist Church with the Rev. V. P. Perry, pastor of Mount Olive Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Llano Cemetery by Warford-Walker Mortuary, 509 N. Hughes St. Mr. Williams was born in Bryan. In 1929, he moved to Amarillo, where he attended public schools and graduated with honors in 1946. He received his bachelor's degree at Sam Houston College and a master's degree in science and mathematics from Texas Southern University in Houston. He was a teacher with Amarillo Independent School District. He was a Baptist. He married Dorothy Sheperd in 1952. Survivors include four sons, Dennye Williams of Dallas, Dwight Williams of Cottonwood, Calif., Robin Williams of Valejo, Calif., and Lowell Williams of Daly City, Calif.; a daughter, Lorrye Williams of Daly City; his mother, Georgia Williams of Amarillo; and a brother, Douglas Williams of Amarillo. The family will be at 211 S. Van Buren St. Amarillo Daily News, Oct. 7, 2000 Christopher M. Lang Christopher M. Lang, 20, of Amarillo, died Wednesday, Oct. 4, 2000. Graveside services will be at 2:30 p.m. Monday in Memorial Park Cemetery. Arrangements are by Schooler-Gordon Funeral Directors, 5400 Bell St. Mr. Lang was an apprentice electrician at Allen Electric. He was a member of Tascosa Road Fellowship Church. Survivors include his wife, Tonja Lang; a son, Anthony Tyler Mitchell Lang; three brothers, William Linley, Michael Lang and Eric Lang, all of Amarillo; five sisters, Angelique Cardoza, Christina Lang, Sherrie Lang, Ashely Lang and Tiffany Lang, all of Amarillo; his parents, Sulema Lang of Amarillo and William Lang of Pampa; and grandparents, Mary and Jesus Torres, Dorothy Brundige and William Lang Sr., all of Amarillo. He served in the Army and had lived in Amarillo for the past 30 years. Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday in the Temple Baptist Church with the Rev. Wes Stewart, minister, officiating. Burial will be in Tucumcari Memorial Park Cemetery by Dunn Funeral Home. Mr. Pickard was born in Possum Trot, Ga. He owned and operated Quay Valley Salvage and was a member of the Temple Baptist Church. Survivors include his wife, Helen Pickard; four daughters, Paula Pickard and Nicole Pickard, both of Lubbock, Texas, Carola Pickard of Tucumcari and Crystal Pickard of Clovis; a son, Robert Redden of Phoenix; two sisters, Wanda Burges of Kingman, Ariz., and Brenda Luten of Nebraska; five brothers, Levon Pickard and Ruel Pickard, both of Portales, Noel Pickard of Clovis, Randall Pickard of Garden City, Kan., and Donnie Pickard of Roswell; and three granddaughters. Amarillo Daily News, Oct. 7, 2000 Gene Eloy Maestas TUCUMCARI, N.M. - Gene Eloy Maestas, 57, died Wednesday, Oct. 4, 2000. Rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Sunday in St. Anne's Catholic Church. Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday in the church by the Rev. John C. Daniel. Burial will be in Tucumcari Memorial Park Cemetery by Dunn Funeral Home. Mr. Maestas was born in Mills and moved to Tucumcari in 1957. He graduated from Tucumcari High School in 1961. He worked for Amerigas Company in propane service. Survivors include his wife, Victoria Maestas; a daughter, Vicky Anne Maestas of Tucumcari; his mother, Ramona Maestas of Tucumcari; a sister, Rosalea Arellano of Tucumcari; a brother, Juan Maestas of Tucumcari. The body will be available for viewing from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. She married Oram Jutson "Judd" Weaver in 1931 at Quail. He died in 1971. Survivors include a daughter, Doris McKee of Sulphur Springs; a son, R.H. Weaver of Amarillo; six grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and three great-greatgrandchildren. Mrs. Wade was born in Cherokee. She moved to Odessa in 1945 from Abilene. She was a homemaker and a member of the Sixth and Jackson Church of Christ. She also was a member of the Woman's Fire Auxiliary. She married Russell Wade in 1945 at Abilene. He died in 1994. Survivors include two sons, Darrell Craig Wade of Odessa and Russell Dale Wade of La Grange; three grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Mrs. Gaines was born in Calera, Okla. She retired as a school teacher from Childress Independent School District. She was a member of the Retired Teachers Association and First Baptist Church. She had served in Austin as a Silver Haired Legislator. She was living in Canyon. She married Leroy Gaines in 1942 at Memphis. He died in 1996. Survivors include a son, Jimmy Frank Gaines of Austin; a brother, Henry C. Henson of Brookings, Ore.; two sisters, Nell Martin of Lubbock and Jane Revel of Canyon; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Arrangements are by Minton / Chatwell Funeral Directors. Mrs. Harris was born in Rogers. She moved to Borger in 1957 from Chandler, Okla. She was a homemaker and was a member of Stinnett Church of Christ. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lee Clifford Harris, in 1964; and by a daughter. Survivors include nieces and nephews. Amarillo Daily News, Oct. 7, 2000 Flora Belle Jones Grittman PLAINVIEW - Flora Belle Jones Grittman, 99, died Saturday, Sept. 30, 2000 No local services are planned. Services will be later in Drew, Miss. Burial will be in the Drew Cemetery. Arrangements are by Bartley-Silva Funeral Home of Plainview and Thweatt-King Funeral Home in Cleveland, Miss. Mrs. Grittman was born in Drew, Miss., and was a longtime resident. She attended Hillman College at Clinton, Miss. She moved to Plainview in 1986. She later moved to Lubbock and lived there a year before returning to Plainview about 11/2 years ago. In Drew, she had taught Sunday school in Drew Baptist Church and had been a member of the Home Demonstration Club. She was a photographer. After moving to Plainview, she was a member of the First Baptist Church Sunday school and the Home Demonstration Club. She married Julius D. Grittman in 1920 at Winona, Miss. He died in 1974. Survivors include a son, Herschell A. Grittman of Redmond, Wash.; two daughters, Glenda Salley of Orlando, Fla., and Barbara Lusk of Plainview; nine grandchildren; great-grandchildren and greatgreat-grandchildren. Amarillo Daily News, Oct. 7, 2000 William Earl Lewis HEDLEY - William Earl "Billy" Lewis, 58, died Thursday, Oct. 5, 2000, in Clarendon. Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday in First Baptist Church of Clarendon with Bright Newhouse, minister of the Hedley Church of Christ, officiating. Burial will be in Citizens Cemetery of Clarendon by Robertson Funeral Directors of Clarendon. Mr. Lewis was born in Clarendon and was a longtime resident of Donley County. He was a cowboy and a member of the Church of Christ. He married Linda Kay Swinney in 1982 at Sweetwater. Survivors include his wife; four sons, Scott Lewis of Amarillo, Gary Lewis of Lelia Lake, Jeremy Gatlin of Clarendon and Willy Lewis of Hedley; his mother and stepfather, Edna Lewis Britt and Roy Britt of Amarillo; three brothers, Ernest Lewis of Amarillo, Bob Lewis of Lubbock and Howell Lewis of Groom; and five grandchildren. Amarillo Daily News, Oct. 7, 2000 Wayne Cookston PLAINVIEW - Wayne "Sonny" Cookston, 69, died Thursday, Oct. 5, 2000. Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday in Lemons Funeral Home Memorial Chapel with Dr. Phillip Jones, pastor of Calvary Baptist Church, and Chris Craig, chaplain of Vista Care Hospice, officiating. Burial will be in Parklawn Memorial Gardens. Mr. Cookston was born in Erick, Okla. He served in the Army and the Air Force from 1948 to 1959. For 36 years, he lived in Ewa Beach, Hawaii, where he owned and operated a restaurant. He moved to Plainview in 1986 and worked at several jobs. He was a Shriner, a 32nd Degree Mason and Scottish Rite. He was a member of the Elks Lodge and the Veterans of Foreign Wars. Mr. Cookston married Mary Ann Ploch in 1990 at Tulia. He was preceded in death by a stepson, Paul Hyslope. Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Jackie Krepps of Culpeper, Va.; a brother, Bill Cookston of Plainview; three sisters, Dorotha Richardson, Gladys Shook and Lavern Abbott, all of Plainview; seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. Amarillo Daily News, Oct. 7, 2000 Sidney B. Jackson Jr. WELLINGTON - Sidney B. Jackson Jr., 72, died Friday, Oct. 6, 2000, in Amarillo. Services will be at 3 p.m. Sunday in the Church of Christ with Tom Anderson, minister of the Memphis Church of Christ, officiating. Burial will be in North Fairview Cemetery by Adams Funeral Home. Mr. Jackson was born in Spearman and moved to Collingsworth County in 1929. He graduated from Wellington High School in 1945. During the Korean War, he served in the Air Force. He was a truck driver for Wellington Butane and for Owens Supply. Mr. Jackson was a member of the Church of Christ and the American Legion. Survivors include five sisters, Lucille "Leigh" Clothier of Sayre, Okla., Irene Readnour of Gage, Okla., Ruth Derryberry of Wellington, Ellen Donley of Fulton, Mo., and Edyth Jackson of Amarillo. The family suggests memorials be to Amarillo Department of Veterans Affairs Hospice; or the Wellington Cemetery Association.
