Hughes St. Survivors include a special friend, William Boyd of Amarillo. Amarillo Daily News, Dec. 8, 2000 Nola E. Newman Griggs Nola E. Newman Griggs, 88, of Amarillo, died Tuesday, Dec. 5, 2000. Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in N.S. Griggs & Sons Funeral Directors, Pioneer Chapel, 2615 Paramount Blvd., with the Rev. Quin Oakley officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Mrs. Griggs was born in Dodson, Collingsworth County. She was valedictorian of her class. She worked for St. Anthony's Hospital as a nurse's aide. She also worked for Amarillo Independent School District in the food service department at Palo Duro High School. She married Albert "Jake" Griggs in 1932 at Altus, Okla. They lived in Muleshoe from 1960 to 1962 where they farmed. They moved to Gentry, Ark., where they had a dairy farm. They later moved to Amarillo. Mr. Griggs died in June. She was active in the Grand Avenue Baptist Church, Longview Baptist Church in Muleshoe, Mason Valley Baptist Church in Arkansas and Valley De Oro Baptist Church, where she was a pianist. She was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church. Survivors include a daughter, Wanda Shepard of Amarillo; two sons, Jimmy Griggs and Arlen Griggs, both of Amarillo; two brothers, J.T. Newman of Del City, Okla. and Ancel Newman of Mathis; a sister, Lola Hackler of Childress; four grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. The family will be at 1902 Rogers. Miss Strecker was born in Amarillo and was a lifetime resident. She graduated from Tascosa High School in 1974, where she participated in choir and drama. She was one of the first students from Tascosa High School to go to All State Choir. She studied music at West Texas State University, where she was a member of the Schola Madrigalis and Chorale Choirs. She was involved in the health care industry and also volunteered with the Boy Scouts. She was a member of Wesley Drive United Methodist Church. He graduated from Newton High School and attended Southern Illinois State University in Carbondale, Ill. He served in the European Theater as a radio mechanic for the Army Air Corps. Mr. Hall moved from Tucson, Ariz., to Amarillo in 1979. He was a plate maker for the Amarillo Globe-News, retiring in 1992. He was a member of the Prince of Peace Lutheran Church. He married Patsy Lamkin in 1942 at St. Charles, Mo. Ms. BallKaufman was born in Brooklyn, N.Y. She moved with her family to southern California, where she attended Marymount College. She moved to Amarillo in 1990 and was a docent for Amarillo Museum of Art. She was a member of the Unitarian Church and the Temple B'Nai Israel. She received her Bat-Muitzvah this year. Mrs. Myers was born in Atchison, Kan. She moved from Carbondale, Kan., to Clovis in 1980. In 1991 she retired as a registered nurse from Plains Regional Medical Center. She married Orville Myers in 1981 at Clovis. Mr. Kovacs was born in Trenton, N.J. He graduated from Burlington County Vo-Tech in Burlington, N.J., in 1995. He served in the Air Force and was last stationed at Cannon Air Force Base. He had been manager of Ben Franklin's and a foster parent. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Texico. He married Dawn Thomas in 1990 at Clovis. Mrs. Kincaid was born in Clovis and was a lifetime resident. She was a homemaker. She was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary and the First Baptist Church. She married Charles E. Kincaid in 1956 at Clovis. He died in 1999. He attended schools in Monahans and graduated from the University of Texas Pharmacy School in 1972. He worked for Wal-Mart Pharmacies. He married Alissa Huckabay in 1975 at Dimmitt. She died in 1995. Mrs. Green was born in Beckham County, Okla., and attended Rankin Schools. In 1994 she moved from Panhandle to Canadian. She was a member of the Rebekah Lodge and attended First Baptist Church in Panhandle. She married Emery B. Green in 1927 at Beckham County. He died in 1975. Mr. Russell was born in Perryton and was a lifetime resident. He served in the European Theater for the Army during World War II. He was a member of the First Assembly of God in Pampa and Amarillo and also attended Trinity Fellowship Church and Briarwood Church. He married Lena Ozell Lester in 1930 at Sayre, Okla. She died in 1995. Survivors include a son, Wallace L. Bruce of Pampa; a daughter, June Thurman of Pampa; a brother, Ira Bruce of Amarillo; six grandchildren; 20 greatgrandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. Anthony Sisemore, pastor or First Baptist Church, and Pamela Jones, of Dallas, officiating. Arrangements are by Moore-Rose-White Funeral Home. Mrs. Muncy was born in Cook County and graduated from high school in Plaska. In 1927 she moved to the Muncy community from Hall County, then to Floydada in 1965. She married Robert Muncy in 1928 at Memphis. They operated the Muncy Elevator and farmed and ranched. He died in 1966. Mrs. Muncy was awarded Floyd County Pioneer Woman of the Year in 1998. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Floydada. She also was preceded in death by a daughter, Sharon, in 1940. Survivors include a son, Norman Muncy of Floydada; a daughter, Betty Gordon of Lubbock; three grandchildren; and three great-granddaughters.
