Killingsworth Jr. BORGER - Dr. Claude E. "Doc" Killingsworth Jr., 74, died Sunday, Jan. 2, 2000. Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Monday in Riverview Baptist Church with Pastor J.D. Gillmore officiating. Arrangements are by Memorial Park Funeral Home, 6969 E. Interstate 40, in Amarillo. Dr. Killingsworth was born in Donley County near Hedley. He attended school in Wellington, Dallas and Lubbock. During World War II, he served with the Navy Seabees in the Pacific Theater. He landed on Okinawa and Iwo Jima with the 6th Marine Division. After the war, he worked in construction with his father before attending Palmer Chiropractic School in Davenport, Iowa. After graduation, he worked two years as a chiropractor in Austin. He established his own chiropractic practice in Borger in 1948. Dr. Killingsworth lobbied for the Texas Chiropractic Association in Austin. He also made several trips to Washington, D.C., on behalf of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion. He was a member of the Church of Christ. He was preceded in death by his wife, Flo Marshall Killingsworth. Survivors include a son, J.D. Killingsworth of Borger; a daughter, Jean Chambless of Borger; a brother, J.W. She moved to Hereford from Dumas in 1961. She was the financial secretary for the First United Methodist Church in Hereford. She was a Methodist. She married L.W. Metcalf in 1936 at Lubbock. He preceded her in death. Survivors include a son, Stanley L. Metcalf of Hereford; a sister, Jean Crowell of Dallas; one grandson and two nephews. Services will be at 2:30 p.m. Sunday in the First Baptist Church in Wheeler. Burial will be at Zybach Cemetery with arrangements by Wright Funeral Home of Wheeler. Mr. Childress was born in Wheeler. He was a truck driver for the Associated Milk Producers Co. He lived in Laverne, Okla., and moved back to Wheeler in 1982. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and a former member of the Wheeler Masonic Lodge. He was a member of the Landmark Missionary Baptist Church in Wheeler. He married Martha Lou Markham in 1961 in Shamrock. He was preceded in death by a sister, Carol Remy, in 1998. Mr. Moore was born in Slidell in Wise County, Texas. He was a resident of Memphis for 24 years before moving to Clarendon in 1993. He worked as a brick layers and concrete finisher, then farmed for 25 years and worked for General Telephone Company for 13 years before his retirement. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and had been a member of the American Legion for 56 years. He served on the Hedley School Board for eight years and was a former member of the Hedley Volunteer Fire Department and the Hedley Lions Club. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Memphis. He married Odell Christie in 1948 in McLean. Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Lura Helms of Clarendon; a sister, Dixie Harris of West Monroe, La.; a brother, Jim Moore of Georgetown; two granddaughters; two great-grandchildren; and two step-great grandchildren. He was a graduate of Tascosa High School and attended Temple Junior College from 1972-74. He later attended the University of Oklahoma from 1974-75 and 1985-86. He worked as an oil and gas consultant around the world and in the U.S. in South Texas, Oklahoma and Louisiana. Survivors include two sons, John Aaron Adamson of Amarillo and Allen of Weatherford, Okla.; a daughter, Jesse of Weatherford, Okla.; his mother, Joan Adamson of Amarillo; and a brother, Jamie Adamson of Amarillo. James Bradford Baker Col. James Bradford Baker, 86, of Amarillo, died Wednesday, Jan. 5, 2000. Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Paramount Terrace Christian Church with the Rev. Baker was born in Bird Island, Minn. He earned a bachelor of science degree in aeronautical engineering from the University of Minnesota and master of science degree from meteorology from Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He was a veteran of World War II, serving with the Army Air Corps Weather Reconnaissance in Central and South America and the China-Burma-India Theater. Col. Baker was a graduate of the Air War College and held significant command position during his Air Force career. He retired from the U.S. Air Force as a colonel with 30 years of service. After his retirement, he worked for Amarillo Downtown Unlimited and Brad Baker Realtors. Col. Baker was a member of the Order of Dadaelians, Air Force Association, Rotary Club of Amarillo, Masonic Lodge, Shrine Khiva Temple, Royal Order of Jesters, ABC Club, American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ann Baker, in 1994, and a son, Richard Carver Baker. Survivors include two sons, Col. James C. Baker of San Antonio and John B. Baker of Arlington Heights, Ill.; five grandchildren; and one great grandchild. The family will be at the funeral home from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday. Amarillo Daily News, Jan. 8, 2000 New Mexico Rudolph Hodges MELROSE, N.M. - Rudolph Hodges, 98, died Wednesday, Jan. 5, 2000. Services will be at 10 a.m. today in First Baptist Church with the Rev. Roy Roach, the Rev. Coy Brewer and the Rev. Herb Gage officiating. Burial will be in Elida Cemetery at Elida. Arrangements are by Wheeler Mortuary in Portales. Mr. Hodges was born in Hamilton County, Texas. As a child, he moved with his family to Waldrip, where he attended school and farmed with his family. He married Agnes Slaughter in 1925 at Brady. They farmed in McCullough County, Texas, until 1932, when they moved to New Mexico. He worked as a cowboy on ranches in Roosevelt and Curry counties and in Arizona and Texas. Mr. Hodges retired in 1976 and lived in Melrose. He repaired saddles after his retirement. His wife died in 1998. Survivors include five daughters, Dortha Fae McCarthy of Kingman, Ariz., Ila "Tedi" Smith of Melrose, Billie Rains of Elida, Betty Joan Hodges of Winchester, Calif., and Cora Lee "Cozy" Parson of McLean, Texas; four brothers, Ben Hodges of Brady, Texas, Carroll Hodges of Santa Anna, Texas, T.L. She graduated from Murray State College with a degree in music education. She was president of Sigma Alpha Iota and was named Outstanding Woman Musician. She was director of instrumental music at Madisonville, Ky., Senior High School until 1945, when she married Edward K. Coffman Jr. She moved to Charlotte in 1960. She was past president of East Mecklenburg High School PTA. She was a member and past board member of Sweet Adelines International. She was a member of Providence United Methodist Church and was president of the Women's Society of Christian Service. Survivors include her husband; three sons, Edward K. He was a 32nd Degree Mason and past president of the aluminum steel workers union.
