Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. today in Prairie Dell Cemetery with the Rev. Gary Jahnel, pastor of Mobeetie First United Methodist Church, officiating. Arrangements are by Stickley-Hill Funeral Directors. Mr. McCravens was born in Hatton, Ark., and graduated from Silverton High School. He moved to Canadian in 1969 from Silverton. From 1977 until 1985, he owned and operated Butch's Roustabout Service. He had been a 4-H leader for several years. He married Debie Sanders in 1976 at Canadian. Survivors include his wife; a son, Tyrel McCravens of Canadian; his mother, Emaloy McCravens of Canadian; a grandmother, Vesta Blackwood of Mena, Ark.; and two sisters, Judy Godden and Barbara Johnson, both of Canadian. The family suggests memorials be to a favorite charity. Amarillo Daily News, March 8, 2000 Ann M. Holmes PERRYTON - Ann M. Holmes, 78, died Monday, March 6, 2000. Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in First Christian Church with the Rev. Jeff Knighton officiating. Burial will be in Ochiltree Cemetery by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Home of Perryton. Mrs. Holmes was born in Fort Worth where she graduated from Paschal High School. She received her teaching certificate from Our Lady of Victory. In 1962 she moved to Perryton from Guymon, Okla. A homemaker, Mrs. Holmes was a member and trustee of the First Christian Church and a member of Ochiltree Art Association and the Ochiltree General Hospital Auxiliary. She married A.M. "Skinnie" Holmes in 1945 at Fort Worth. He died in 1988. Survivors include a daughter, Ann Haley of Perryton; a sister, Mary Perry of Dallas; two grandchildren; and two greatgrandchildren. Amarillo Daily News, March 8, 2000 Peggy Marie King McLEAN - Peggy Marie King, 76, died Monday, March 6, 2000. Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in First Assembly of God Church with the Rev. Quinton Newton officiating. Burial will be in Hillcrest Cemetery by Lamb Funeral Home. Mrs. King was born in Childress and moved to McLean as a child where she lived for most of her life. She was a member of First Assembly of God Church and was an artist. She moved to the Hereford area three years ago. She was preceded in death by her husband, Vernon King, in 1992. Survivors include a daughter, Darla Cook of Burbank, Calif.; a son, Roy King of Amarillo; two sisters, Annis Corbett of Hereford and Cora Jane Barnes of Corsicana; four grandchildren; and four greatgrandchildren. Mrs. Berry was born in Ovilla and moved to Bailey County in 1925. She and her husband owned and operated Berry Electric in Muleshoe. She was a member of Muleshoe Rebekah Lodge No. 114 and First Baptist Church of Muleshoe. She married Thomas Wallace Berry in 1926 at Longview. She was preceded in death by a son, Glen Edwin Berry, in 1988. Survivors include a son, Robert Allen Berry of Amarillo; a sister, Bulah Lou Harper of Mena, Ark.; a brother, J.B. Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday in Rose Chapel of Gililland-Watson Funeral Home with the Rev. Terry Cosby, pastor of First Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will be in West Park Cemetery. Mrs. Penman was born in Hereford and graduated from Hereford High School. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church. She trained to be a nurse at the old St. Anthony's Hospital in the late 1920s and became a registered nurse in the early 1930s. Survivors include three daughters, Anita Applequist of Las Vegas, Druscilla Charlebois of New Orleans and Joyce Crutchfield of Lincoln, Neb.; a son, Douglas Penman of California; two brothers, J.W. Witherspoon of Hereford and Raymond Witherspoon of Plattville, Colo.; eight grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. The family suggests memorials be to the American Heart Association. Amarillo Daily News, March 8, 2000 Mary Audrey Wright Hall TEXHOMA - Mary Audrey Wright Hall, 86, of Justin and formerly of Texhoma, died Monday, March 6, 2000. Services will be at 4 p.m. Thursday in Texhoma Church of Christ. Burial will be in Texhoma Cemetery by DeBerry Funeral Directors of Denton. Local arrangements are by Dawson Welch Funeral Home. Mrs. Hall was born in Annona. From 1946 until 1984 she and her husband worked in the hardware business in Texhoma. She was a member of Texhoma Church of Christ and Pipeline Road Church of Christ in North Richland Hills. She married John Hobson Hall in 1936 at Lubbock. He preceded her in death. Survivors include two sons, Jackie Don Hall of Amarillo and Rufus Ray Hall of Haslet; a sister, Iva Lou Wright of Lubbock; two brothers, Ray Wright of Midland and Edgar Wright of El Paso; four grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. He graduated from Plainview High School in 1936. As a young man he worked on a ranch in Oregon before returning to Texas. He was a longtime resident and farmer in Moore County. He married Frances Mozelle Sweatt in 1940 at Plainview. Survivors include his wife; two sons, Jim Reddell of San Antonio and Bill Reddell of Flower Mound; two daughters, Judith Reddell Dodson of Fort Worth and Jan Reddell Hulsey of Amarillo; a sister, Ruby Vass of El Paso; a brother, Robert N. Amarillo Daily News, March 8, 2000 Annette Appleby Annette Appleby, 75, of La Jolla, Calif., and formerly of Amarillo, died Thursday, March 2, 2000. Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in Schooler-Gordon Funeral Directors, Bell Avenue Chapel, 5400 Bell St., with the Rev. Phil Mercado, associate pastor of pastoral care at Trinity Fellowship, officiating. Burial will be in Llano Cemetery. Miss Appleby was born in La Junta, Colo., and moved to Amarillo as a child in 1926, living here 70 years. In 1949 she joined the Cerebral Palsy Center, now the Children's Rehabilitation Center, and served as speech therapist until her retirement in 1987. Miss Appleby received her bachelor's degrees from Cottey College and Grinnell College and a master's degree in speech therapy from the University of Michigan. In 1985 she was named a candidate for "National Therapist of the Year" by the American Businessmen's Club. Miss Appleby recently received special notice as a 50-year member of Amarillo's Chapter B of PEO and was a life member of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association. Survivors include a brother, Addison Appleby of La Jolla, Calif.; a niece, two nephews; and four great-nephews. The family suggests, in lieu of flowers, memorials be to Cal Farley's Boys Ranch and Girls Town. Amarillo Daily News, March 8, 2000 Clara Belle Crumb Clara Belle Crumb, 98, of Amarillo, died Tuesday, March 7, 2000. Graveside services will be at 3 p.m. Friday in Memorial Park Cemetery with Merle Houska, chaplain of the Neal Unit, TDCJ, officiating. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2820 Virginia Circle. Mrs. Crumb was born in Pulaski, Tenn., and was a longtime resident of Amarillo. She was employed as a telephone operator for Southern Bell in Decatur, Ala., and Mountain States Telephone Co., in El Paso. She was a former member of Order of Eastern Star and was a Methodist. She married Edmund James Crumb in 1936 at El Paso. He died in 1969. Survivors include a daughter, Liz Whitfield of Amarillo; three grandsons; and two great-grandchildren. Private family committal will be in Llano Cemetery by Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 S. Georgia St. Mrs. Billington was born in Corpus Christi. She received her bachelor of science degree from Texas Tech University and her master's of divinity from Christian Life School of Theology in 1999. She was a school teacher, drug abuse and crisis counselor and pastor. With Jimmy Evans, Mrs. Billington co-authored the book, "Freedom from Your Past." She was a member of Trinity Fellowship Church. She married Jerry D. Billington in 1973 at Kerrville. Survivors include her husband; a daughter, Wendi C. Billington of the home; a son, Dane S. Billington of the home; and a brother, Mike Medlin of Boerne. Amarillo Daily News, March 8, 2000 Elsewhere Vera Spencer Venable WICHITA FALLS - Vera Spencer Venable, 91, died Monday, March 6, 2000. Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday in Lunn's Colonial Funeral Home Chapel with Steven Johnson, minister of Edgemere Church of Christ, and Dick Marcear, minister of Central Church of Christ in Amarillo, officiating. Burial will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in Llano Cemetery in Amarillo. Mrs. Venable was born in Burnett County. She was a registered nurse at Cook's Children's Hospital in Fort Worth and Huntsville Memorial Hospital until she married and moved to Amarillo. After the death of her husband Mrs. Venable moved to Wichita Falls where she was a member of Edgemere Church of Christ and the Beaux Arts Study Club. She married Herbert Allen Venable who died in 1963. She also was preceded in death by a son, Robert A. Venable. Survivors include a daughter, Ann Venable Rogers of Wichita Falls; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. The family suggests memorials be to a favorite charity.
