Services will be at 2 p.m. today in First United Methodist Church with Elder T.J. Pittman of Primitive Baptist Church in Wellington officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery by Memphis Funeral Home. Mrs. Long was a homemaker and longtime Memphis resident. She was a member of the Primitive Baptist Church in Wellington. She married Marvin Long in 1930 at Childress. He died in 1986. She was also preceded in death by a grandson, Holt Bounds, in 1997. Survivors include a son, Daryl Long of Carrollton; three daughters, Marion Bounds and Bobbie Ariola, both of Memphis, and Betty Long of Wellington; a brother, Woodrow Zuber of Morton; three sisters, Fay Hiner of Morton, Virgie Mills of Childress, and Willie Rae Rozell of Dallas; seven grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. The family suggests memorials be to a favorite charity. Amarillo Daily News April 10, 2000 Garvin Simpson SHAMROCK - Garvin Simpson, 76, died Saturday, April 8, 2000. Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday in Shamrock Cemetery with the Rev. Joe Jernigan officiating. Arrangements are by Lamb Funeral Home of McLean. Mr. Simpson was born in Lela and was a longtime resident of the Shamrock area. He served with the Army during World War II and worked in the health care profession as an aide. Survivors include his brother, Bud Simpson of McLean. Visitation will be from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. today at the funeral home. Amarillo Daily News April 10, 2000 William Avery Griffin QUITAQUE - William Avery "Bill" Griffin, 89, died Saturday, April 8, 2000. Services will be at 3 p.m. today in Quitaque First Baptist Church with Dr. Steve Venable of First United Methodist Church in Shallowater, the Rev. Tom Griffin of First Baptist Church in Wilson, and the Rev. Lance Cypert of the church officiating. Burial will be at Resthaven Cemetery by Lemons Funeral Home. Mr. Griffin was born in Tom Green County and was a member and deacon of First Baptist Church at Quitaque. He was a member of the Quitaque Lion's Club and served with the Army. He married Mable Deere Griffin in 1934 at Temple. She died in 1984. Survivors include three sons, Don Griffin of Lubbock, and Weldon Griffin and Johnny Griffin, both of Quitaque; six grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren. The family suggests memorials be to Quitaque Cemetery Association. Amarillo Daily News April 10, 2000 Bonnie Nell Fabian MCLEAN - Bonnie Nell Fabian, 72, died Thursday, April 6, 2000, in Galveston. Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in United Methodist Church with the Rev. Thacker Haynes officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery at Pampa by Lamb Funeral Home. Mrs. Fabian was born in Pampa and was a longtime resident of the Panhandle area, where she was a music teacher. She was a member of the McLean Methodist Church. Several months ago, she moved to Friendswood. She married H.F. Fabian in 1951. He died in 1994. Her son, Gregory Fabian, died in 1985. Survivors include a son, Roderic Fabian of Friendswood; a brother, Lawrence McBee of Torrence, Calif.; and three grandchildren. The family will be at the Fabian home in McLean and suggests memorials be to First United Methodist Church Choir in McLean. Amarillo Daily News April 10, 2000 Odus Leon Cochran PAMPA - Odus Leon Cochran, 74, died Sunday, April 9, 2000. Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors Colonial Chapel with Dr. Derrell Monday, pastor of Central Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Memory Gardens Cemetery. Mr. Cochran was born in Heavener, Okla. He served with the Navy during World War II and moved to Pampa in 1949. He worked as a brick mason. From 1969 until his retirement in 1987, he worked for the Pampa Fire Department. He was a volunteer with Celebration of Lights and was a member of Central Baptist Church and the Couples Class. He married Clarene Crawford in 1947 at Mena, Ariz. Survivors include his wife; a son, Darrell Cochran of Pampa; two daughters, Cathy Seymour of Denver and Debra Campisi of El Paso; eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Colvin, 69, of Amarillo, died Saturday, April 8, 2000. Vigil services will be at 7 p.m. today in Schooler Funeral Home, Brentwood Chapel, 4100 S. Georgia St. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Schooler Funeral Home Brentwood Chapel with Deacon Dick Riley officiating. Burial will be in Llano Cemetery. Mr. Colvin was born in Vernon. In 1949, he graduated from Amarillo High School. After serving with the Air Force from 1950 until 1954, he graduated from Amarillo College. A longtime Amarillo coin dealer and numismatist, he began collecting coins in 1939. He owned the Amarillo Coin Exchange in downtown Amarillo and later the Royal Coin and Stamp Shop in Wolflin Village. He was a lifetime member and president and officer of the American Numismatic Association, the Texas Numismatic Association, and the Golden Spread Coin Club. In 1971 and in 1976, he was the general chairman for the state convention of the Texas Numismatic Association. He owned the Key and Engraving Shop in Sunset Center and was associated with Meehan's Restaurant. He was also president and a member of Tascosa Lions Club. In 1971, he was a recipient of the Amarillo Globe-News Accolade Award. He was a contributor to Neil Seafer's book on Philippine guerrilla currency and a 1974 book about Amarillo by Clara T. Hammon. He married Margaret Ann Banasik in 1955 at Amarillo. She died in 1985. He married Dorothy Meehan in 1994. Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Susan Hayes and Sharon Robinson, both of Amarillo; a stepdaughter, Dale Longbine; a brother, Bill Colvin; and three grandsons. The family suggests memorials be to Baptist St. Anthony's Hospice and Life Enrichment Center; or Make-A-Wish Foundation. Amarillo Daily News April 10, 2000 New Mexico O.H. Venable CAPITAN, N.M. - O.H. "Slim" Venable, 84, died Thursday, April 6, 2000, in Amarillo. Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. today in the Christ Community Fellowship at Capitan with Ed Vinson, pastor, officiating. Local arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2820 Virginia Circle. Mr. Venable was born in Rankin, Texas. From 1940 through World War II, he served as crew chief in the Army Air Corps in the Pacific. He had lived in Roswell and retired as manager at Spitzer A&I. He married Mattie Ruth Horton in 1960 at Roswell. She died in 1990. Survivors include two sons, Jerry N. Cochran and Billy D.
