She moved to Hereford from Dumas in 1961. She was the financial secretary for the First United Methodist Church in Hereford. She was a Methodist. She married L.W. Metcalf in 1936 at Lubbock. He preceded her in death. Survivors include a son, Stanley L. Metcalf of Hereford; a sister, Jean Crowell of Dallas; one grandson and two nephews. He was a truck driver for the Associated Milk Producers Co. He lived in Laverne, Okla., and moved back to Wheeler in 1982. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and a former member of the Wheeler Masonic Lodge. He was a member of the Landmark Missionary Baptist Church in Wheeler. Mr. Moore was born in Slidell in Wise County, Texas. He was a resident of Memphis for 24 years before moving to Clarendon in 1993. He worked as a brick layers and concrete finisher, then farmed for 25 years and worked for General Telephone Company for 13 years before his retirement. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and had been a member of the American Legion for 56 years. He served on the Hedley School Board for eight years and was a former member of the Hedley Volunteer Fire Department and the Hedley Lions Club. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Memphis. He married Odell Christie in 1948 in McLean. Mr. Boxford was born in Woodward, Okla., and moved to the area 66 years ago. He was a plumber. He married Opal Sparks in 1938 at Spearman. She died in 1948. His second wife, Juanita, died in 1990. Mr. Rackley was born in Russellville, Ark., and attended schools in Pottsville. In 1930, he moved to Kansas City and was a truck driver for Safeway. In 1944, he moved to the Lubbock area, where he farmed and later drove a truck for Time/DC until his retirement in 1972. He moved to San Angelo in 1985 and to Plainview in 1996. He married Audrey Lucille Bowden in 1927 at Pottsville. She died in 1975. Jim Hancock, retired Baptist minister, and Dr. Travis Hart, pastor of First Baptist Church at Plainview, officiating. Burial will be in Parklawn Memorial Gardens by Lemons Funeral Home. Mrs. Heck was born at Mills County and attended schools in Mullin and North Texas Normal College. She taught in Mullin, Wilmeth and later moved to New Home, where she and her husband owned and operated a cotton gin. In 1948, they moved to Heckville, where they owned and operated a cotton gin and grain elevator. In 1959, they moved to Plainview, where they farmed. They moved to Lubbock in 1987. She was a Baptist and taught Sunday school. She was active in the Women's Missionary Union and was president of District 9 WMU, serving as director of the youth caps at Plains Baptist Assembly. She served as recording secretary of the WMU of Texas and was a member of First Baptist Church in Lubbock. Mrs. Heck was past president of the Plainview's Woman's Club, a member of the founding board of the Llano Estacado Museum Association, Hale County Historical Society and a member of the board of trustees of Wayland Baptist University. She was honored in 1984 as the Pioneer Woman of the Plains and in 1985, received the distinguished award for Historical Preservation at West Texas State University. She married Henry Heck in 1924 at Wilmeth. He died in 1979. She was also preceded in death by a son, Rodney Heck, in 1984, and four infant children. Survivors include a daughter, Greta Marks of Lubbock; a sister, Louise Hancock of Austin; five grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2820 Virginia Circle. Col. Baker was born in Bird Island, Minn. He earned a bachelor of science degree in aeronautical engineering from the University of Minnesota and master of science degree from meteorology from MIT. He was a veteran of World War II, serving with the Army Air Corps Weather Reconnaissance in Central and South America and the China-Burma-India Theater. Col. Baker was a graduate of the Air War College and held significant command position during his Air Force career. He retired from the U.S. Air Force as a colonel with 30 years of service. After his retirement, he worked for Amarillo Downtown Unlimited and Brad Baker Realtors. Col. Baker was a member of the Order of Dadaelians, Air Force Association, Rotary Club of Amarillo, Masonic Lodge, Shrine Khiva Temple, Royal Order of Jesters, ABC Club, American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ann Baker, in 1994, and a son, Richard Carver Baker. Survivors include two sons, Col. James C. Baker of San Antonio and John B. Cremation was by Memory Gardens Crematory with local arrangements by Warford-Walker Mortuary Inc., 509 N. Hughes. Mrs. Allen was born in Sunnyvale, Calif., and had lived in several states before moving to Amarillo. She was a housewife. Survivors include her husband, James W. Allen. Amarillo Sunday News-Globe Jan. 9, 2000 Betty Sue Lewis Kembel Betty Sue Lewis Kembel, 58, of Amarillo, died Friday, Jan. 7, 2000. Services will be at 2 p.m Monday in Chaparral Hills Baptist Church with the Rev. Alan Burkhalter, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Llano Cemetery by Rector Funeral Home, 2800 S. Osage St. Mrs. Kembel was born in Memphis. She was a nurse practitioner who worked with Dr. George Wyatt from 1968 until 1976, Dr. Daniel Schwartz from 1976 until 1987 and Dr. Robert Henderson from 1988 on. She was a member of Beta Sigma Phi, where she was Chapter Sweetheart in 1973 and 1994. She was also a member of Amarillo Little Theatre, Gideon Lady Auxiliary and Chaparral Hills Baptist Church. She married Richard "Dick" Kembel in 1963 at Memphis. Survivors include her husband; a son, Ray Kembel of Dallas; a daughter, Suzanne Kembel Shelton of Albuquerque, N.M.; two brothers, Cletus Lewis of Seminole and Rod Lewis of Big Spring; a sister, Loreine Schmalried of Long Beach, Calif.; and two grandchildren. The family will be at 109 Renegade and suggests memorials be to Shriner's Hospital; Gideon's Faith Fund; Multiple Sclerosis Society; or a favorite charity. Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Brooks Chapel with Melvin Darnell and Alvin Howard of Sixth Avenue Church of Christ officiating. Burial will be in Dreamland Cemetery by Brooks Funeral Directors. Mrs. Weidner was born in Mountain Home, Ark. For nine years she worked for Baptist St. Anthony's Hospital in central supply. She was a Canyon resident for 28 years. She was a member of the Sixth Avenue Church of Christ.
