Ames Jr. Orlando E. Ames Jr., 78, of Amarillo, died Wednesday, Aug. 2, 2000, in Albuquerque, N.M. Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. today in Westview Christian Church in Amarillo. Mr. Ames was born in Reading, Mass. He served in the Navy for four years and in the Army for eight years. He was a member of American Legion Hanson Post No. 54, where he served as commander and sergeant at arms. He also had served as a state sergeant at arms for the American Legion. He was preceded in death by a wife, Donna Ames; and by a daughter, Frances Velasquez. Survivors include his wife, Rose Ames; a son, Orlando E. Ames III of Amarillo; five daughters, Claire Kester, Bea Garland, Sandra Harris, Shirley Boone and Loretta Jiminez, all of Amarillo; several step-children; 16 grandchildren; several step-grandchildren; and 17 greatgrandchildren. Arrangements are by Memorial Park Funeral Home, 6969 E. Interstate 40. Mr. Lofland was born in Rockwall. He served in the military during World War II. He bred exotic birds, raised bees and sold honey. He also had worked for the railroad. He was a Southern Baptist. He married Ena Lee Crawford in 1942 at Dumas. Amarillo Daily News, Aug. 11, 2000 Oklahoma Opal Heathcock KEYES, Okla. - Opal Oma Clifford Heathcock, 89, died Tuesday, Aug. 8, 2000, in Elkhart, Kan. Services will be at 2 p.m. today in First Baptist Church with the Rev. Harold James officiating. Burial will be in Willobar Cemetery by Bunch-Roberts Funeral Home of Guymon. Mrs. Heathcock was born in Batesville, Ark. She attended school in Forgan. She moved to Keyes in 1988 from Texhoma. She had worked in restaurants and also had owned and operated restaurants. She was a member of Keyes First Baptist Church and the Rebekah Lodge. She married Fred Clifford in 1929 at Buffalo. She married L.M. "Curley" Heathcock in 1957 at Richfield, Kan. He died in 1988. She also was preceded in death by two sons, Dick Clifford and Eddie Clifford; and by a daughter, Bonnie Lee Davis. Survivors include three daughters, Jeanne Edens of Guymon, Patsy Scott of Texhoma, Texas, and Karon Holmes of Sallisaw; 19 grandchildren; 46 greatgrandchildren; 13 great-great-grandchildren; and a special friend, Clauddie Whisennand of Keyes. Amarillo Daily News, Aug. 11, 2000 Helen Viola Huddleston GUYMON, Okla. - Helen Viola Huddleston, 96, died Tuesday, Aug. 8, 2000. Services will be at 10 a.m. today in Victory Memorial United Methodist Church with the Rev. Mike Chaffin officiating. Burial will be in Texhoma Cemetery at Texhoma by Bunch-Roberts Funeral Home. Mrs. Huddleston was born near Hastings, Minn. She moved in 1906 to the Oklahoma Territory and established a homestead near Guymon. She attended high school at Panhandle Agriculture Institute in Goodwell and earned a bachelor's degree at Panhandle A&M College in Goodwell. She taught school in Pleasant Hill, Beulah, Redpoint, Union Center, James, Center and Browns Corner. She had lived in the James community, where she was a member of the James Church of God. After moving to Guymon in 1980, she became a member of Victory Memorial United Methodist Church. She also was a member of No Man's Land Senior Citizens and Daughters of the American Revolution. She married Roy Edward Huddleston in 1924. He died in 1977. Survivors include a son, Roy Joe Huddleston of Goodwell; a daughter, Zella Shubert of Guymon; a sister, Mildred Ross of Booker, Texas; seven grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren. The family suggests memorials be to Panhandle Nutrition Center; Victory Memorial United Methodist Church missionary fund; or the Helen Huddleston Oklahoma Scholarship Fund at Oklahoma Panhandle State University. Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in Northridge Freewill Baptist Church with the Rev. John Hewitt and the Rev. Steve Robinson, officiating. Burial will be in Elmhurst Cemetery by Henson-Novak Funeral Directors. Mrs. Brooks was born in Phoenix. In 1944, she moved to the Sherhan Phillips Petroleum Plant, south of Guymon and then to Guymon in 1975. She worked as an office manager for Dr. Oxley. She was a member of the Northridge Freewill Baptist Church. She was married to Jerel M. Brooks in 1935 at Shidler, Okla. He died in June. Survivors include three children, Joan Compton of Springfield, Colo., and Glynda Holmes and Jerel R. Brooks, both of Guymon; a sister, Sybil Chancey of Broken Arrow; a brother, Clyde Loveall of Nocona, Texas; seven grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren. "Cotton" Russell, 100, died Thursday, Aug. 10, 2000. Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in Fairview Cemetery at Pampa with L.V. Ellison, retired Church of Christ minister, officiating. Arrangements are by Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors of Pampa. Mr. Russell was born in Kosse, Texas. He was a welder and had partnered with his brother, owning and operating a welding shop in Stephenville, Texas. He sold the shop in the early 1950s and returned to Pampa, where he worked for the Cabot Corp., retiring in 1965. He had lived most of his life in Pampa, moving to Duncan in 1993. He restored antique furniture with his wife and was a member of the Mary Ellen and Harvester Church of Christ. He married Loreta Hazel Ellison in 1924 at Lorenzo, Texas. She died in 1978. Survivors include a son, W.A. "Bill" Russell of Sierra Vista, Ariz.; a daughter, Betty Guyton of Duncan; four grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. Mrs. Griffin was born and raised in Lexington. She attended schools in Lexington and Blynn College at Brenham. She had lived in and around the San Antonio area and was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Lexington. She married Lester Griffin in 1933 at Walters, Okla. He died in 1989. Survivors include a daughter, Wanda Jean Cowan of Plainview; two sons, James Franklin Griffin of San Antonio and Thomas Charles Griffin of Dawson; a brother, Franklin Raschke of San Antonio; five grandchildren; and four greatgrandchildren. White in 1934 at Childress. He died in 1977. She also was preceded in death by two sons, O.B. White Jr. and Billy Ray White. Survivors include four sons, Clarence White and Eddie White, both of Amarillo, Jackie White of Savoy and Mike White of Lubbock; a daughter, Ethel Roark of Lubbock; two brothers, Arnold Bryant of El Paso and L.L. She married Darrell Gibson in 1987 at Los Angeles. He died in January. Mr. Bradford was born in Benjamin and was a lifetime resident of Cottle and King counties. He was a cowboy and a farmer. He was a member of the Paducah Church of Christ. He was preceded in death by three wives, Imogene Jackson, Marie Branson in 1986 and Maymie Powell in 1991; and by a daughter, Jo Ann Lawrence, in 1991. Survivors include a son, Ben Bradford of El Paso; a daughter, Ruth Woodley of Paducah; two brothers, W.T. Burial will be in Citizens Cemetery. Mr. Sims was born in Munday and was a longtime resident of Clarendon. He was a veteran of the Army, serving during World War II. He worked for the city of Clarendon until his retirement. He was a member of the American Legion and the Assembly of God Church. He married Dorothy Eva Skinner in 1943 at Eufaula, Okla. He was preceded in death by a son, Billy Charles Sims. Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Linda Hill and Mary Cole, both of Clarendon; three sons, Jack Sims of Longview and Ronnie Sims and Bobby Sims, both of Clarendon; two brothers, Charles Sims of Childress and Cecil Sims of Whitney; 13 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
