She was a member of the Latin Club, the Varsity Softball Team and the Academic Decathlon Team. She also was a sports columnist for Generation Y. She was a counselor for Hidden Falls Ranch and a member of the Second Baptist Church. Mrs. Hunt was born in Cushing, Okla. She was a longtime resident of Amarillo and lived in Borger 17 years. She was a homemaker and a Baptist. She married Charlie Hunt in 1965 at Canyon. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Nimrod H. Norton, in 1964; and by a son, Jerry Houston Norton. He had been involved in Christian ministry since 1987 and taught at Anvil Christian Church in El Paso. He edited a Christian Web site. Amarillo Daily News, July 11, 2000 Oklahoma Mouzon Weatherby HARDESTY, Okla. - Mouzon Weatherby, 88, died Thursday, July 6, 2000, in Liberal, Kan. Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday in Restlawn Memorial Gardens with the Rev. Warren Gillian officiating. Arrangements are by Miller Mortuary. Mr. Weatherby was born in Bethany, La. He graduated from high school in Drummond. He moved to Liberal in 1933 and to Hardesty in 1973. He worked for A.B. Hunt Ford in Liberal and for Trentham Motors in Hugoton, Kan., retiring in 1974. He and his son, Mike, owned and operated a repair shop in Hardesty until 1990. He also was a longtime farmer. He married Lucille Faye Polf in 1949 in New Mexico. She died in 1996. He also was preceded in death by a daughter. Survivors include two sons, Jim Weatherby and Mike Weatherby, both of Hardesty; a daughter, Miogene Alexander of Denton, Texas; two brothers, Wade Weatherby of Liberal and Cecil Weatherby of Turpin; and eight grandchildren. Mr. Davis was born near Hooker. He attended school in Hooker. During World War II he served in the Navy as a fireman first class aboard the USS Augusta in the African and European theaters. He worked on the Texas County road crew and worked many years on Frank Parkes' ranch. He was a member of First United Methodist Church. He married Sally Stephens in 1973. Amarillo Daily News, July 11, 2000 John Evans GUYMON, Okla. - John "Richard" Evans, 80, died Saturday, July 8, 2000, in Mooreland. Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday in First Assembly of God with the Rev. Billy Martin, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Elmhurst Cemetery by HensonNovak Funeral Directors. Mr. Evans was born and attended grade school in Mocane, Okla. He graduated from Beaver High School in 1937. He moved to Guymon in 1939 and opened a shoe repair store, where he cobbled shoes until 1942. He served in the European Theatre for the Army during World War II. He was a member of the 215th Quartermaster Salvage Repair. In 1947 he reopened his shoe repair shop, which he operated until 1959. After 1959 he managed rental properties in the Guymon area. He was a member of the Assembly of God. He married Alpha in 1987. Survivors include two brothers, Harold Evans of Mooreland, formerly of Guymon and Karl Evans of Laverne; and two sisters, Verla Weeks of Knowles and Leola Harris of Fort Worth, Texas. She was a member of East Fourth Street Baptist Church and the Rebekah Lodge. She was a homemaker and moved to Big Spring in 1950. She married Carl Lee Gum in 1930 at Guymon. He died in 1972. Survivors include two sons, Tim Gum of Roswell, N.M., and Edmond Gum of Roanoke, Va.; a daughter, Marilyn Pratter of Quincy, Ill.; a brother, Bill Evans of Stanton, Texas; seven grandchildren; and one grandchild. She was a member of First Baptist Church. She married Lester Howell in 1928 at Spearman. He died in 1981. She also was preceded in death by a son, Bobby Jack Howell, in 1935. "Lum" Edwards, 90, of the Palisades, died Sunday, July 9, 2000. Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday in Memorial Park Cemetery with the Rev. Larry Richardson, pastor of Palisades Baptist Chapel, officiating. Burial will be in Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2820 Virginia Circle. Mr. Edwards was born in Caddo County, Okla. He retired from Amarillo Air Force Base as a firefighting instructor. He was a past member of the Odd Fellows Lodge, a founding member of the Krazy Kap band and had played in the Sunday band at Amarillo Senior Citizens Association, where he was a member. He was a member of the Palisades Baptist Chapel. He married Lena May in 1929 at Donley County. She died in 1991. He married Ruth Duff in 1993. He also was preceded in death by two daughters, Bobby Edwards in 1937 and Patsy Miller in 1991. Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Gloria Lane Stark of Pittsburg; a stepdaughter, Barbara Killen of Amarillo; two stepsons, James R. Hill of Canyon and David L. He graduated from Childress High School. He served in the Pacific Theater for the Navy during World War II. In 1950 he graduated from West Texas State College earning a master's degree. He was a teacher, coach and administrator in public education in Skellytown, Groom, Lefors, Sanford / Fritch, Stratford and other Texas communities. He was a longtime member of Lions Club International and active in the Crippled Children's Camp at Kerrville. He was councilman for the city of Bryson and retired as superintendent of Bryson Schools in 1985. He married Louise Price in 1947. Survivors include his wife; two sons, Larry Bates of Jacksboro and Bill Bates of Burney; two daughters, Sue Ann Foster and Tammy Brooks, both of Amarillo; a sister, Margaret Simmons of El Paso; two foster sisters, Jane Felton of Childress and Savolia Schmutzler of Westcliffe, Colo.; 18 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. Arrangements are by Dutton Funeral Home. Mr. Nichols was born in McRoberts, Ky. A former resident of Amarillo, he lived in Iowa Park five years, moving from Aurora, Colo. He served in the Navy, receiving the Bronze Star and the Army Commendation Medal. He was a quality assurance worker for the U.S. government. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post in Aurora, the El Jebel Shrine Temple, the Aurora Masonic Lodge and the Denver Scottish Rite. He was a ham radio operator and a Baptist. He married Shirley Curry in 1959 at Amarillo. Survivors include his wife; and a brother, Milford Thacker of Norton, Va.
