Amyx DALHART - James E. Amyx, 75, died Monday, Oct. 9, 2000. Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday in First Baptist Church by Hass Funeral Home. Mr. Amyx was born in Ochiltree County and at an early age moved to Dalhart with his family. He was in the first XIT pageant at age 8, playing the role of Colonel Goodnight. During World War II he served in the Army Air Corps. He had lived in the Era community near Gainesville, where he and his father were involved in the building of a dairy barn. In 1949 he and his wife purchased the barn. He was a member of Era Baptist Church, where he served as deacon and Sunday school teacher. He was member and past president of the Era Community Improvement Club. He retired in 1979 and returned to Dalhart in 1980. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Dalhart and served as director and teacher in the Sunday school department. He married Ida May McClellan in 1946 at Dalhart. Survivors include his wife; two sons, Richard Amyx of San Angelo and Danny Amyx of Coppell; a daughter, Donna Otts of Gainesville; and five grandchildren. The family suggests memorials be to Memorial Park Cemetery Fund, P.O. Box 2005, Dalhart, TX 79022. Amarillo Daily News, Oct. 11, 2000 Albert D. Titsworth PAMPA - Albert D. "Tex" Titsworth, 74, died Monday, Oct. 9, 2000. Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday in Fairview Cemetery with the Rev. Doug Yates, pastor of First Church of the Nazarene, officiating. Arrangements are by Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors. Mr. Titsworth was born in Carlsbad, N.M. During World War II he served in the Army in the European Theater. In 1978 he moved to Pampa from Colorado. He owned and operated the Texas Lounge and the Texas Tee Room, retiring in 1999. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He married Clora Mae Rich in 1946. He married Elsie Graves in 1963 at Platteville, Colo. He was preceded in death by a son, Albert Edward Titsworth, in 1986. Survivors include two sons, Charles Davis Titsworth of Independence, Mo., and Gordon Titsworth of Denver; three daughters, Elizabeth Ann Adams and Betty Mae Kuykendall, both of Roswell, N.M., and Alberta Diane Burdick of Painted Post, N.Y.; 15 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. Amarillo Daily News, Oct. 11, 2000 J. D. Pool DUMAS - J. D. Pool, 73, died Tuesday, Oct. 10, 2000. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at First Baptist Church with the Rev. Dan Turner, music consultant for Baptist General Convention of Texas, and the Rev. Roger Orr, minister of missions at First Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Dumas Cemetery by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors. Mr. Pool was born in Dumas and graduated from Dumas High School in 1944. During World War II he served in the Marines. He was an appliance service technician for Woody's Furniture for 45 years. He volunteered at Dumas Fire Department for 30 years and served on the Dumas zoning board and at Meals on Wheels. He was a member and longtime usher at First Baptist Church. He married Betty Brewer in 1952. Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Melanie Mullens of Spring and Kriste Frederick of Grapevine; a sister, Pat Smith of Waianae, Hawaii; and four grandchildren. Burial will be in Floydada Cemetery at Floydada by Bartley-Silva Funeral Home. Mrs. Wall was born in Floydada. In 1971 she moved to Plainview, where she worked for the health department. She was a volunteer at the Lighthouse, a homemaker and a member of Happy Union Baptist Church. Services will be at 2 p.m. today in Bethel Assembly of God with the Rev. Gary Kelison, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Llano Cemetery by Holley Funeral Home of Canyon. Mr. Martinez was born in Amarillo. He graduated from Tascosa High School, where he played football and was an honor student. He was manager of the Taco Bell on Washington Street. Survivors include his parents, Diego and Corina Alvarez of Amarillo; two sisters, Stephanie Alvarez and Katie Alvarez, both of the home; and grandparents, Agatha Martinez of Amarillo, Al Martinez of Plainview and Lydia Alvarez of Amarillo. Amarillo Daily News, Oct. 11, 2000 Harrison Shepard Jr. Harrison Shepard Jr., 34, of Amarillo, Tuesday, died Oct. 10, 2000. Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in River Road Baptist Church with Michael Carter, pastor, officiating. Arrangements are by Rector Funeral Home, 2800 S. Osage St. Mr. Shepard was born in Dumas. He attended Canyon High School and was a longtime resident of Amarillo. He worked as a forklift operator at Owens-Corning Fiberglas Corp. for 16 years. He married Kathleen Kratochvil in 1985 at Amarillo. Survivors include his wife; three daughters, Elizabeth Shepard, Alexandria Shepard and Crystalee Shepard, all of the home; a son, Erik Shepard of the home; his mother and stepfather, Cody and Joe Kennedy of Amarillo; his father, Henry Shepard of Congress, Ariz.; three sisters, Susan Kinman of Las Vegas, N.M., Teresa Provence and Christina Hughes, both of Amarillo; and a brother, James Shepard of Amarillo. Ninth Ave., with Curtis Spidell, pastor of Faith Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Mrs. Murry was born in Wellington and was a longtime Amarillo resident. She worked at Levine's Department Store 29 years. She was a member of Faith Baptist Church. She married Loye Lee Murry in 1927 at Shamrock. He died in 1983. Survivors include two sons, Bill Murry of Prescott, Ariz., and Howard Murry of Longview; a daughter, Ricky Roush; a brother, Thomas Cherry of Lubbock; 15 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. Griggs & Sons Funeral Directors, 2615 Paramount Blvd. Mr. Moore was born and raised in Rossville, Ill. He moved to Amarillo in 1982 from Hoopeston, Ill. He worked for Gilvin-Terrill Construction. Survivors include a daughter, Angela Moore of Amarillo; a son, Eugene Moore of Colorado Springs, Colo.; his mother, Evelyn Gillespie of Amarillo; a sister, Sandra Teske of Amarillo; and five grandchildren. Vernon St. Amarillo Daily News, Oct. 11, 2000 Pat Reed Smith Pat Reed Smith, 70, of Amarillo, died Tuesday, Oct. 10, 2000. Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday in Buchanan Street Chapel. Burial will be in Llano Cemetery by Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 S. Georgia St. Mrs. Smith was born in Tulia and graduated from Tulia High School in 1947. She was a member of the Fleet Reserve Association Auxiliary, the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary and Buchanan Street Chapel. She married Homer Smith in 1986 at Amarillo. Survivors include her husband; a son, Gary Reed of Amarillo; a stepson, Raymond Smith of San Diego; two stepdaughters, Elaine Hudson of Norwood, Calif., and Denise Rocheleau of Chula Vista, Calif.; two sisters, Violet Johnson and Janice Johnson, both of Amarillo; two brothers, Miles Anderson of Tulia and W.K. Anderson of Amarillo; 14 grandchildren and one great-grandchild. The family will be at 1700 Two Deer Trail. Amarillo Daily News, Oct. 11, 2000 Canyon Wilma Smith Wilma "Bill" Smith, 94, of Canyon, died Monday, Oct. 9, 2000. Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in Brooks Funeral Directors Chapel with the Rev. Clark Williams, pastor of First United Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Dreamland Cemetery. Mrs. Smith was born in Silverton. In 1921 she moved with her family to Canyon, where she graduated from high school. She earned a bachelor's degree from West Texas State Teachers College in 1929. She moved from Canyon to Chicago and became a registered dietitian, working for 50 years in Chicago-area hospitals. She co-authored a manual for clinical dietitians. She returned to Canyon when she retired in 1984. She was a member of First Methodist Church and the Murray Bible class. She married Edward Smith in 1930. He died in 1976. She also was preceded in death by a son, Wally, in 1988. Survivors include two sisters, Marie Cooper of Canyon and Felicia Applewhite of Olton; a grandson and four great-grandchildren. Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. today in Lawn Haven Memorial Gardens with the Rev. Dean Turvaville officiating. Arrangements are by Muffley Funeral Home. Mrs. Thompson was born in Tulia, Texas, and moved to Clovis in 1937. She was a retired licensed professional nurse and a member of Prince Street Baptist Church and the Order of the Eastern Star. She married Charles "Shorty" Thompson in 1955 at Clovis. She was preceded in death by her husband and by a daughter, Donnie L. Long. Survivors include a son, Bob Burton of Corona; two daughters, Laura L. Dunmar and Norma M. Powers, both of Santa Fe; 11 grandchildren; 22 greatgrandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren. Amarillo Daily News, Oct. 11, 2000 R.P. Mack CLOVIS, N.M. - R.P. Mack, 79, died Sunday, Oct. 8, 2000, in Morton. Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday in Lawn Haven Memorial Gardens with Dr. Steve McElroy officiating. Arrangements are by Steed-Todd Funeral Home. Mr. Mack was born in Clovis and was a lifelong resident. He served in the Army Air Corps and the Navy during World War II and the Korean War. He was a machinist for Santa Fe Railway. He was a member of First United Methodist Church, Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Eagles. He married Rachel I. Curnutt in 1946 at Clovis. She died in 1996. Survivors include a son, Raymond Mack of Tillamook, Ore.; and two grandchildren. Amarillo Daily News, Oct. 11, 2000 Emmett L. McAlester FORT SUMNER, N.M. - Emmett L. McAlester, 97, died Tuesday, Oct. 10, 2000. Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. CDT Friday in Shamrock Cemetery at Shamrock, Texas with the Rev. John Dorn of Shamrock Methodist Church officiating. Arrangements are by Chavez Funeral Home. Mr. McAlester was born in Shamrock. He served in the Army, Navy and Marine Corps. He was a law enforcement officer for the Fort Worth, Texas Police Department for 20 years. He retired and moved to Fort Sumner in 1964 and in 1968 he moved to Shamrock, where he did wood work and farmed. He was a Methodist. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mildred McAlester. Survivors include his sister-in-law, Inez McAlester of Fort Sumner; a niece, Anna Gustafson of Albuquerque and a nephew, Mike Westmoreland of Klamath Falls, Ore. Survivors include a daughter, Lesley Lewis of Gainesville; two sons, Ronald Smith and David Smith, both of Amarillo; four sisters, Bernita Smith of Shamrock, Betty Lewis of Elk City, Okla., Nelda Scott of Borger and Joy Hall of Katy; and three grandchildren.
