John Valdez, pastor. Entombment will be in Memory Gardens Mausoleum. Mrs. Urbanczyk was born in Villegreen, Colo., and had lived in the Pampa area since 1936. She was a homemaker and a member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, the Altar Society and the women's club at the church. She married Emil R. Urbanczyk in 1936 at White Deer. He died in 1985. Survivors include two sons, Ronald Urbanczyk and Dwain Urbanczyk, both of Pampa; two daughters, Leatrice Ann Nelson and Norene Breum of Billings, Mont.; a sister, Melva Pierce of Colorado Springs, Colo.; seven grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. Amarillo Daily News, May 12, 2000 Frankie Marquez DALHART - Frankie Marquez, 72, formerly of Dalhart, died Sunday, May 7, 2000, in Brownwood. Services will be at 3 p.m. Saturday in Lincoln Street Baptist Church with the Rev. Rusty Hancock, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery by Hass Funeral Home Inc. Mrs. Marquez was born in Clinton, Okla., and moved to Dalhart in 1957. She retired from Coon Memorial Hospital. She moved to Brownwood in November. Survivors include a son, Walter Harrington of Brownwood; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Amarillo Daily News, May 12, 2000 Hester West Moore FLOYDADA - Hester West Moore, 92, died Tuesday, May 9, 2000, in Hereford. Services will be at 10 a.m. today in MooreRose-White Funeral Home Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Wendell Horn, pastor of First United Methodist Church in Floydada, officiating. Mrs. Moore was born in Floyd County. She graduated from Floydada High School. She was a graduate of the Baylor University School of Nursing and earned a bachelor's degree from Scarritt College at Nashville, Tenn. She was a missionary-nurse and taught at mission hospitals in China before traveling to the Philippines. She spent time in an internment camp after the fall of Manila and was rescued in 1945. Mrs. Moore was a longtime resident of Floydada. She and her husband were foster parents to 24 children. In 1960, she was named Nurse of the Year by South Plains Chapter of Texas Graduate Nurses Association. She was the recipient of the Texas Panhandle Distinguished Service Awards for Women presented by West Texas State University. Mrs. Moore was a member of the women's division of the Floydada Chamber of Commerce, the Homemaker Home Demonstration Club and the First United Methodist Church. She married W.I. Moore in 1953 at Abilene. He died in 1990. She is survived by a sister, Ione Matthews of Rosewood, Calif., nephews and nieces. Battin PERRYTON - J.E. "Bud" Battin, 78, died Wednesday, May 10, 2000. Services will be at 3 p.m. Saturday in First Baptist Church with the Rev. Ted Latham officiating. Burial will be at Ochiltree Cemetery by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Home. Mr. Battin was born in Kim, Colo., and had lived in the Perryton area since 1927. He worked in a blacksmith shop for his father. During World War II, he served in the Navy with the seabees and was a boltsmate 2nd class, serving at Lucion Islands, Guam and occupational forces in Japan. He was a self-employed machinist. He owned and operated Battin Machine Shop. He was a member of the First Baptist Church. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and an endowment member of the National Rifle Association. Mr. Battin married Nadine Buxton in 1946 at Liberal, Kan. He was preceded in death by a son, George Edward Battin, in 1981. Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Judy Beth Beck of Taos, N.M.; two sons, James Walter Battin and Billy Lynn Battin, both of Perryton; and one granddaughter. Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in First Christian Church with the Rev. Gary Gumfory officiating. Burial will be in Gruver Cemetery by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Home of Spearman. Mr. Morley was born in La Junta, Colo., and moved to Spearman. In 1964, he moved to Gruver. He worked as a parts man at Hansford County Parts & Supply until 1978, when he went to work as parts manager for Gruver Farm Supply. Mr. Morley was a member of the Gruver First Christian Church, where he was an Elder and had served as Deacon. He was a member of the Gruver Lions Club and had served as past president. He married Patricia Ann Pingleton in 1957 at Clayton, N.M. Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Vicki Lee Morley of Amarillo; a son, Kelon Dean Morley of Houston; a brother, Jim Morley of Spearman; and a grandson. She graduated from Canyon High School and attended West Texas State College. She had worked at Coca Cola Bottling Co., the Good Housekeeping Shop, Amarillo Lumber Co. and Pioneer Natural Gas. She also kept children in her home. She was a longtime member of St. Paul United Methodist Church, where she also worked in the nursery. She was a member of the Rebecca Sunday school class and the Martha Circle of United Methodist Women. She married William Ira "Jack" Woolery in 1953. He died in 1974. Survivors include a son, Scott Woolery; a daughter, Cindy Woolery; two sisters, Vergie Woodward of Tempe, Ariz., and Joanna Perry of Dallas; and six grandchildren. She was a graduate of Somerset School of Massage Therapy at Somerset, N.J. She moved to Amarillo from Dumas in 1951 and was a retired massage therapist. She was a past member of Amarillo's Artist Studios. Mr. Ellis was born in Karnes County and moved to Amarillo in 1942. He retired as a bus driver for the Amarillo Transit System. He had also farmed. He was a member of the Second Baptist Church. Mr. Ellis married Maurine Smith in 1925 at Floyd County. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Nelda Joan Ellis, in 1932. Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Latrice Davis of Big Spring and Gladys Irion of Amarillo; three sons, Bill Ellis of Dumas and Travis Ellis and Bob Ellis, both of Amarillo; a sister, Effie Cox of Cedar Park; 12 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren. Cox Gladys W. Cox, 91, of Amarillo, died Thursday, May 11, 2000. Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in Llano Cemetery with the Rev. Jim Garrett, pastor of Polk Street United Methodist Church, officiating. Arrangements are by N.S. Griggs & Sons Funeral Directors, 2615 Paramount Blvd. Mrs. Cox was born in Clay County. She attended Texas Woman's College and earned a master's degree from Peabody Teachers College at Nashville, Tenn. After her marriage to Bowen Cox they moved to Amarillo in 1941. Mrs. Cox was a math teacher for the Amarillo Independent School District, teaching at Amarillo High School and Tascosa High School. She worked as a librarian at Caprock High School before her retirement. She was a member of the Polk Street United Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1982. Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in The Chapel with the Rev. Garland Hughes officiating. Burial will be in Fort Sumner Cemetery at Fort Sumner by Muffley Funeral Home. Mr. Gibson was born in Fort Sumner. He lived in Clovis from 1967 to 1974, moved away, and then returned to Clovis in 1982. He was an irrigation well pump puller for Kirkland Pump Co. Inc. in Farwell, Texas, and worked as a feedlot foreman for Aztec Cattle Co. in Farwell. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Farwell. He helped build the track for the Ned Houk Motor Sports Complex and also raced there. Survivors include two sons, David Gibson of Clovis and Donnie Gibson of Texico; his mother, Marday Gibson of Clovis; two brothers, Orbry Gibson of Portales and Henry Gibson of La Compa, Calif.; and a sister, Josie Stephenson of Clovis. Arrangements are by Hass Funeral Directors. Ms. Crausby was born in Clayton. She graduated from Clayton High School in 1969 and from New Mexico State University in 1973. She worked in Houston and then taught special education in Lubbock, Texas, from 1974 to 1976. She moved to Artesia and taught special education there until 1997. She returned to Clayton in 1998. She was a member of First Baptist Church and was involved in youth activities. Ms. Crausby was preceded in death by a daughter, Teresa Carol Crausby, in 1995. Survivors include a daughter, Tara Crausby of Clayton; her parents, Clifford and Ruth Walker of Clayton; a brother, Dwight Walker of Santa Fe; two sisters, Barbara Wyman of Calgary, Canada, and Carol Bowman of Ojai, Calif.; and Owen Crausby. Mrs. Cantrell was born in Logan and had lived in western Oklahoma. She was a nurse's aide and assisted the elderly in their homes. She married Raymond Cantrell in 1964. He preceded her in death. She also was preceded in death by a daughter, Alice Cantrell. Survivors include two daughters, Joy Sullivan and Kay Pierce, both of Elk City; three sons, Gary Foster of Follett, Texas, Larry Foster of Buffalo, Texas, and Terry Foster of Forgan; a sister, Kay Smith of Amarillo; a brother, Alan Dean Travis of Dallas; 16 grandchildren; and three greatgrandchildren. Mr. Skipper was born in Gilmer. He graduated from Gilmer High School and Phoenix Academy of Beauty Culture. During the Korean War, he served with the Navy aboard the USS Shangri-La. He also served from 1956 to 1960 in the Naval reserve. He was the former owner of Designers Group Hair Salons in Lubbock and Amarillo and developed Indian Maiden Cosmetics. He was a member of Trinity Church. He was a licensed insurance salesman. Mr. Skipper married Mina Orick in 1955 at Phoenix. Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Kathy Jo Freeman of Midland; a son, Sidney Wayne Skipper of Lubbock; two brothers, Marion Edward of Houston and Royce Glen of Gilmer; five sisters, Dee Carmichael of Cleveland, Texas, Ella Philen of Whitehouse and Geneva Kerr, Norma Jones and Rachel Moore, all of Gilmer; and three grandchildren. Arrangements are by Ellis Funeral Home of Midland. Mrs. Gafford was born in Gray County. She graduated from Dalhart High School and then went to work as a telephone operator in Turkey. She moved to Lubbock in 1969 from Turkey. She moved to Midland in 1995. She married Conway Gafford in 1940. He died in 1985. Survivors include a son, Connie L.
