Amarillo Daily News, Dec. 13, 2000 New Mexico Lawrence F. Miller CLOVIS, N.M. - Lawrence F. Miller, 95, formerly of Clovis, died Saturday, Dec. 9, 2000. Private family services were held at 10 a.m. Tuesday in Muffley Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Dean Turvaville officiating. Burial was in Lawn Haven Memorial Gardens. Mr. Miller was born in Blanchard, Okla. He moved to Clovis, N.M. in 1945. He was a pipe fitter and welder for the railroad. He was a member of Prince Street Baptist Church, where he also played music. He was living in Farwell, Texas at the time of his death. He married Mable Chloene Gay in 1923 at Blanchard. She died in 1985. He also was preceded in death by three sons, Gaylend Miller, Charles Miller and Melvin Jean Miller. Survivors include a son, David F. Miller of Clovis; a daughter, Chloene Ball of Clovis; a sister, Anne Gay of Truth or Consequences; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-greatgrandchildren. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. today in First Baptist Church with Ron Mimms officiating. Burial will be in Hooker Cemetery by Roberts Brothers Funeral Home. Mrs. Browning was born north of Guymon. She began school in Cherokee City, Ark. and in 1940 her family returned to Guymon. She graduated from Guymon High School and later from Amarillo Business School. She was a secretary at a corn company in Chicago. She married Dean Browning in 1971 at Clayton, N.M. They lived for a time in Hugoton, Kan., and in 1977 moved to Hooker. She was a charter member of the Straight Christian Church and a member of First Baptist Church. Survivors include her husband; two sons, George Michael Browning of Dawn, Texas and John Browning of Poolville, Texas; two daughters, Deana Duke of Arnett and Linda Browning of Tulia, Texas; two brothers, Gerald Sturdivan of Guymon and Walter Sturdivan of Stockton, Calif.; a sister, Dorothy Kleffman of Guymon; 10 grandchildren and five greatgrandchildren. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and Mother's Club. She married Carl Gilbert in 1965 at Hooker. Survivors include her husband; two sons, Mike Gilbert of Norman and James Gilbert of Chicago; a sister, Dorothy Thompson of Hooker; and three grandchildren. McCormack EUGENE, Ore. - Happy M. McCormack, 74, died Sunday, Dec. 10, 2000. Services will be at 11 a.m. today in England's Eugene Memorial Chapel. Burial will be in Sunset Hills Memorial Gardens. Mr. McCormack grew up and worked in the cotton fields near Snyder, Texas. He served in the Army during World War II and received the Purple Heart. After the war he lived in Long Beach, Calif. He moved to Seattle in 1949, to Portland in 1971 and to Eugene in 1976. He was co-owner with his son of All American Steel Fabricators. He was a member of Northwest Steel Association and the Elks Lodge. He was a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Eugene. He married Erlene Moore in 1948 at Las Vegas. She died in 1993. Survivors include a son, Tom McCormack of Eugene; a daughter, Susan Wirth of Eugene; two sisters, Opal Blakeley and Lois Nichols, both of Hereford, Texas; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Private family interment services will be at a later date. Mr. Ricketts was born in Lubbock, Texas. He was a longtime resident of Santa Fe, N.M. and Albuquerque, N.M. He graduated from Santa Fe High School and attended New Mexico State University in Las Cruces, N.M. He was a construction worker and a self-employed jeweler. He lived in Dallas six years before moving to Schenectady nine years ago. He was a sales manager for Barrier Free Systems in Scotia. He was a communicant of Trinity Baptist Church. He was a longtime resident of the Memphis area until moving to Amarillo seven months ago. He was a retired road construction worker and a World War II veteran, having served in the Army Air Corps. He married Margie Ann Bliss in 1948 at Wheeler. She died in 1997. Survivors include a son, Larry Proffitt of Amarillo; a brother, Witt Proffitt of Amarillo; a sister, Irene Gerber of Amarillo; two grandchildren; and two greatgrandchildren. She moved to Texas in 1934 and to Dalhart in 1940. She worked at the 200 Laundry, North Ward School lunchroom, Ben Franklin's Dime Store and Jim Bob Booths Insurance Co. She was a member of the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of LatterDay Saints and attended Lakeview United Methodist Church. She married Arthur W. Larsen in 1934. He preceded her in death. She was a homemaker and a member of the Sixteenth and Avenue D Church of Christ. She married Haskell Pierce in 1931 at Clovis, N.M. He died in 1984. She also was preceded in death by a son, Mick Pierce, in 1999. Terry in 1930 at Motley County. He died in 1986.
