In 1949, he moved to Amarillo, where he worked at Smith-ThompsonRainson. After graduating from Palo Duro High School, he received a bachelor's degree from West Texas State University in 1971. He was a member of Pleasant Valley United Methodist Church, the Model A Ford Club, V-8 Club, Mustang Club and N.A.P.M. He married Sue Criswell in 1967 at Amarillo. Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Christie Brown and Tanya Brown, both of Amarillo; a sister, Wanda Smiley of Amarillo; and two grandchildren. Oates, 81, of Amarillo, died Saturday, Feb. 12, 2000. Memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Schooler Funeral Home, Brentwood Chapel, 4100 S. Georgia St., with Windell Taylor, Chaplain of the Department of Veterans Affairs Health Care System, officiating. Mrs. Oates was born in Canadian and graduated from both Texas State College for Women at Denton and Gradwohl at St. Louis. She was the Chief Medical Technologist at Northwest Texas Hospital, where she was one of the founders of the School of Medical Technology. While a member of the American Society for Clinical Laboratory Science, she received the Golden Service Award. She was also a member of square dance clubs in Amarillo. She married Sterling K. Oates in 1940 at St. Louis. He died in 1993. Survivors include a daughter, Mary Ellen Hareter of Amarillo; a sister, Mildred C. Crowell of Odessa; and a grandchild. Burial will be in Llano Cemetery by Warford-Walker Mortuary Inc., 509 N. Hughes St. Mr. Nelson was born in Levelland and moved to Amarillo in 1950. He was a self-employed mechanic and also worked for Kelly's Tire Company and Amoco Gas and Oil Company. He later owned and operated a gas station, a cafe and a lawn service. He married Sheila Hall in 1986 at Amarillo. Survivors include his wife; six daughters, Felicia Johns, Tamecka Hall, Glendale Oages, Bobbie Nelson, Debra Poindexter, and Irma Nelson, all of Amarillo; four sons, Bobby Nelson Jr., Larry Nelson, Michael Nelson and Billy Porter, all of Amarillo; a brother, Earl Davis of Dallas; and a sister, Nellie Jones of Fort Lyons, Colo. Mr. Nation was born in Higgins, and was an instructor in the entertainment industry. He was a member of Bell Avenue Church of Christ. He was preceded in death by two wives. Survivors include special friend, William Johnson, of Amarillo. Amarillo Daily News Feb. 14, 2000 Mary Drusilla Potter Mary Drusilla "Dru" Potter, 78, of Amarillo, died Friday, Feb. 11, 2000. Services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday in Paramount Terrace Christian Church with the Rev. Scott Greer officiating and the Rev. Joe Patterson, her nephew, assisting. Burial will be at Llano Cemetery by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2820 Virginia Circle. Mrs. Potter attended Amarillo High School and worked as a teller for First National Bank and other area banks before becoming a wedding and portrait photographer. She began her career as a photo assistant at the photo booth at J.J. Newberry's department store before buying the photo business and expanding it to several locations, including F.W. Woolworth, TG&Y, and the Amarillo Air Force Bus Station. She worked in the customer service department at Pioneer Natural Gas and was also employed as a model for Blackburn's and for Skibell's Marizon on KGNC television's "The Ruth Brent Show". From 1977 until 1987, she was the official photographer for the Texas Women's Bowling Association State Tournament. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church, and attended Paramount Terrace Christian Church of Amarillo and Conchas Baptist Mission at Conchas Dam, N.M. She was active in the Parent Teachers Association, the Aggie Moms Club, the American Cancer Society, and the Avihk Temple Daughters of the Nile. In 1957, she was named State Charm Queen of the American Beauty Charm Club. She married Fred Riley Potter Sr. in 1938 at Canyon. He preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by a son, Fred Riley Potter Jr. Survivors include a son, John Richard "Rick" Potter of Austin; a sister, Ruthalee Scott of Truth or Consequences, N.M.; five grandchildren; and a greatgrandchild. He served with the Army Air Corp during World War II and retired from Bell Helicopter in 1986. He was preceded in death by a grandson and by a great-grandson. He married Nova Hamby in 1947 at Childress. Mr. Johnson was born in Springfield and attended school in Campo. He lived in Denver before returning to Campo to farm. In 1984, he moved to Clovis, N.M. He married Tawana Little in 1956 at Campo. His son, Andy James Johnson, preceded him in death. She was a homemaker and a member of Fritch Church of Christ and Golden Grandmothers Club of Borger. She married Claude Fletcher in 1931. He died in 1982. Her son, Charlie Fletcher, died in 1988. Survivors include two sons, Claude L. Mr. Chapman was born in Chandler and moved to Hale Center from Acuff in 1953. He married Cleva Stewart in 1936 at Leonard. Mr. King was born in Hale County, Liberty Community. He graduated from Plainview High School and attended Watson Business School. During World War II, he served with the Army, and later worked for Colliers Monument Company as a designer and engraver. In 1995, he moved to Petersburg, where he worked for Petersburg Co-op Grain as a bookkeeper and assistant manager and for Almon Cotton and Grain as a bookkeeper. In 1978, he moved to Plainview, where he worked for Plainview Hardware until his retirement in 1995. He was a member of College Heights Baptist Church. He married Verna Mae Doss in 1943 at Brownfield. Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Linda Kay Dilks of La Porte, Ind.; a son, Charles Thomas King of Arlington; a sister, Mildred Graham of Blowing Rock, N.C.; and two grandchildren. Mrs. Campbell was born in Merkel and graduated form Sweetwater High School in 1929. She received a degree in education from West Texas State College, and attended Sul Ross College at Alpine, Texas. She was a tutor on a ranch near Amarillo and, in 1943, moved to Clayton, where she taught. After her retirement in 1993, she was a substitute and tutor. In 1995, she was named A Top Volunteer of Chance Teacher. She was a member of First United Methodist Church and the Bell Letres Book Club. Survivors include a cousin, Abbie Whittenburg Thomas of Lubbock. Gene Hawkins officiating. Burial will be in Lawn Haven by Steed-Todd Funeral Home. Mrs. Lofton was born in Elida and was a lifelong resident of Curry County. She was a member of Central Baptist Church and of the Glory Choir. Her husband, Floyd Lofton, died in 1973. She was also preceded in death by a grandson in 1979. Amarillo Daily News Feb. 14, 2000 Oklahoma Frederic Melton Kinzer KEYES, Okla. - Frederic Melton Kinzer, 53, died Wednesday, Feb. 9, 2000, in Fort Worth, Texas. Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. today in First Baptist Church. Arrangements are by Cimarron Mortuary. Mr. Kinzer was born in Pampa, Texas, and graduated from Keyes High School in 1965. He received a bachelor's and a master's degree in accounting from Oklahoma State University, where he graduated with honors. He worked for Peat, Marwick and Mitchell in Tulsa as a certified public accountant. In 1945, he returned to Keyes to purchase Kinzer Oil Company, which had been established in 1945 by his parents. While in Keyes, he was a member of the Keyes Lions Club, a volunteer for the Volunteer Fire Department, and President of the Elkhart Golf Club. In 1990, he began working for Enserch Exploration Company in Dallas as an assistant controller of oil and gas revenues. While in Dallas, he was a member of the Council of Petroleum Accounts Society. He transferred to Houston in 1998 and moved to Fort Worth in 1999. He married Linda Woods in 1968. Survivors include his wife; a son, Jeff Kinzer of Keyes; a daughter, Amy Shue of Fort Worth; a sister, Carol Spradlin of Edmond; and three grandchildren. Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in First Baptist Church with the Rev. Odie Nunley and the Rev. Leon Lothman officiating. Burial will be in Elmhurst Cemetery by Henson-Novak Funeral Directors. Mr. Funderburg was born in Wilburton and graduated from Wilburton High School in 1941. During World War II, he served with the Army. He moved to Guymon from Duncan in 1963 and retired from Mobil Oil as an Oil Field Supervisor in 1984. He was a member of First Baptist Church. He married Wanda Basden in 1946 at Sherman, Texas. Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Vicki Bunger of Liberal, Kan.; a son, Ron Funderburg of Guymon; two sisters, Eula Self of Lawrence, Kan., and Norma Jean Major of McAlester; six brothers, O.C. Funderburg of Charleston, S.C., James Funderburg of Midwest City, Bennie Funderburg of Enid, Jack Funderburg of Hennessey, Charles Funderburg of Ada, and Stanley Funderburg of Oklahoma City; four grandchildren; and a greatgrandchild. Amarillo Daily News Feb. 14, 2000 Canyon Clarence Beckman Clarence Beckman, 96, of Canyon, died Sunday, Feb. 13, 2000. Vigil services will be at 7 p.m. today at Holley Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Busch reciting. Funeral mass will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday in St. Mary's Catholic Church in Umbarger. Burial will be in Umbarger Cemetery by Holley Funeral Home. Mr. Beckman was born in Elgin, Ill., and moved to Umbarger in 1907. He was a farmer and rancher. From 1937 until 1971, he was a Randall County Commissioner. He served on the Randall County Hospital board in Canyon, as the director of the West Texas State Bank, and was instrumental in obtaining the bank charter. He helped secure the fire equipment for the Umbarger Volunteer Fire Department and was a charter member of the 4th degree Knights of Columbus. He married Anna Tucek in 1924 at Umbarger. She died in 1970. She married Lula Jennings in 1979. Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Margaret Friemel of Umbarger and Elizabeth Brockman of Amarillo; three stepsons, Tommy Myers of Nashville, Tim Myers of Houston, and Gene Myers of Denver; 18 grandchildren; 18 greatgrandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
