Graveside services are at 10:30 a.m. today in Ochiltree Cemetery. Services are at 11:30 a.m. today in First Baptist Church with the Rev. Ted Latham officiating. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Home. Mrs. Portwood was born in Evant. She had lived in the Perryton area since 1907, moving from Evant. She also had lived in Amarillo from 1929 to 1949. She was a homemaker. She married Lester C. Portwood in 1929 at Perryton. He died in 1992. Survivors included two daughters, Dorothy Nell Caldwell of Amarillo and Ann Todd of Odessa; a brother, Travis Flowers of Perryton; six grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren. Amarillo Daily News, July 14, 2000 Emmett Allen McLEAN - Charles Emmett Allen, 87, died Wednesday, July 12, 2000, in Amarillo. Graveside services are at 10:30 a.m. Saturday in Alanreed Cemetery at Alanreed with George Watson, minister, officiating. Arrangements are by Lamb Funeral Home. Mr. Allen was born in Wellington and had lived in the Texas Panhandle area most of his life. He was a musician with his own band, "Sunset Ramblers." He had been a farmer and an auto mechanic, operating a shop on Old Route 66. He served on the Alanreed Cemetery board and was a member of the Church of Christ. In 1992, he was inducted into the Route 66 Hall of Fame at the Devil's Rope Museum at McLean. Mr. Allen married Myrtle Bruns in 1932 at Wellington. She preceded him in death. He also was preceded in death by an infant son. Survivors include two sons, Don Allen of Sherman and Mickey Allen of Huntington Beach, Calif.; two daughters, Betty Collie of Lake Texhoma and Gloria Jones of Cleburne; seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and one great-greatgrandchild. Mrs. Morrow was born in Atoka County, Okla. She had lived in Paducah for many years, and then moved to Amherst. She returned to Paducah five years ago. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Amherst. She married Robert M. Morrow in 1951 at Anson. He died in 1993. Survivors include a daughter, Sue Owens of Temple; a stepdaughter, Doris Parker of Levelland; a brother, Owen Nolen of Paducah; two sisters, Oleta Bradford and Imogene Bradford, both of Paducah; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Arrangements are by Robertson Funeral Directors of Clarendon. Mr. Hughes was born in Ryan, Okla. He had lived in Plainview for 20 years, Slaton for three years and in Howardwick for the last 10 years. He was a retired truck driver and a member of the Seth Ward Baptist Church in Plainview. He was preceded in death by his wife, Lillie Mae Henry, in June. He had lived in Amarillo for 35 years before moving to Howardwick in 1995. He was a veteran of the Army. He had been a truck driver, retiring from Roadway Trucking in 1991. He was a member of the First Baptist Church. He married Lois Tollison in 1959 at Farwell. Survivors include his wife; two sons, Troy Rolland of Amarillo and Joe Rolland of Palestine; a brother, Pete Rolland of Irving; two sisters, Mary Joyce Harding and Dori Darby, both of Odessa; and two granddaughters. She graduated from Roy High School in 1948. She lived in Roy until 1964, when she moved to Tucumcari. After retiring, she moved to Vega. She was a member of Worldwide Church of God in Amarillo. She married Lloyd Lyle Holmes in 1949 at Raton, N.M. He died in 1998. Survivors include two sons, Riley Holmes of Bushland and Richard Holmes of Hereford; two daughters, Veva Lee of Jal, N.M., and Sheila Walker of Clovis, N.M.; parents, Ernest and Georgia Green of Hereford; a sister, Joyce Aycock of Hereford; eight grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. He married Alma Ree Hart in 1928 at Dodson. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday in Holt Cemetery near Spearman with Leonard Harper, minister of Spearman Church of Christ, officiating. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Home. Mr. Sheets was born in Jeffrey. He graduated from Spearman High School and attended Panhandle State College at Goodwell, Okla. During World War II, he served with the Army Air Corps. He lived in Albuquerque, N.M., working for a government contractor and retiring in 1969. He had lived in Amarillo for several years, moving from Bracketville. He was a member of the Church of Christ. Mr. Sheets married Inez Meador Harbert in 1940. Survivors include his wife; a son, Jack Harbert of Uvalde; five brothers, Daniel Sheets, Branch Sheets, S.B. Sheets and Claude Sheets Jr., all of Spearman and Willis Sheets of Round Rock; three sisters, Grace Harmon of Wharton, Francis Cudd of Spearman and Zola Mitchell of Waco; four grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. Mr. Coffee was born and raised in Quail. He served in the Navy. He was a farmer and rancher. He was a charter member of the Wellington Lions Club, holding various offices, a member of the Wellington Country Club, and a member of the Church of Christ. Mr. Coffee served on the board of the Collingsworth County Farm Bureau. He received an honorary Future Farmers Degree from the Future Farmers Association and was a little league coach. He married Sue Nelson in 1947 at Wellington. Survivors include his wife; three daughters, Susan Green of Childress, Linda Johnson of Wellington and Kay Williams of Waco; a son, Samuel John Coffee of Pampa; four sisters, Judy Manuel of Wellington; Bertha Styles of Omaha, Neb., Allie Minyard of Lubbock and Della Mae Estes of Irving; and nine grandchildren. Mr. Gregory was born in Estelline. He was a civil servant. He had lived in Amarillo for 28 years, before moving to Fort Worth seven years ago. He married Minnie Mae Huddleston in 1934 at Estelline. She died in 1971. Survivors include a daughter, Alva Lee Horton of Tulsa, Okla.; a son, Phillip Gregory of Fort Worth; a sister, Mozelle Wright of Jacksonville; a brother, Billy Bob Gregory of Midland; 10 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren. Mrs. Aragon was born in Villanueva. She lived in Santa Rosa for more than 20 years, moving to Clovis in 1995. She was a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Hilario Aragon, in 1989. She also was preceded in death by two sons, Rick L. Aragon and Joe B. Aragon. Survivors include three sons, Joe S. Arrangements are by Dunn Funeral Home of Tucumcari. Mr. Yates was born in Forrest and had been a lifetime resident of the Forrest Community and Quay County. He attended Forrest schools and later the New Mexico Highlands University at Las Vegas. He taught in Dexter and Alamogordo. He was active in the Forrest Volunteer Fire Department, the Forrest Community Church and the South Quay Soil and Water District. He had served as Quay County Commissioner and was a member of the Rural Economic and Community Development Council and the Governor's Rural Development Council. He was a farmer and rancher in the Forrest Community. Survivors include his wife, Sue Hill Yates; two daughters, Judy Rush and Diana Rush, both of Forrest; a sister, Mini Yates Charlton of Las Vegas; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
