Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday in First United Methodist Church with Dr. Tom Fuller, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in West Park Cemetery by Gililland-Watson Funeral Home. Mrs. Veigel was born in Decatur. She moved to Deaf Smith County in 1935 from Floyd County. She was a homemaker. She was a member of First United Methodist Church and also active with the First Christian Church. She was a member of the Hereford Garden Club, the Sewing Club and the Birthday Club. She married Robert Veigel in 1933 at Plainview. He died in 1993. She also was preceded in death by a son, Don Veigel, in 1959. Survivors include a son, Bob W. Veigel of Hereford; a daughter, Dorothy Oswald of Bala Cynwyd, Pa.; a brother, Paul Faith of Los Angeles; seven grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. CHILDRESS - Sandy Longbine Lawrence, 57, formerly of Childress, died Saturday, Sept. 9, 2000, in Temple. Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in Johnson Funeral Home Chapel with Weldon Hayes officiating. Burial will be in Estelline Cemetery at Estelline. Mrs. Lawrence was born in Grand Prairie. She was a homemaker and a member of the Church of Christ. She was living in Clarksville at the time of her death. She was preceded in death by two husbands, Richard Schuler and Thomas E. Backus. Survivors include her husband, Ed Lawrence; two sons, Todd Schuler of Plano and Mark Schuler of Clarksville; three brothers, Dan Longbine of Childress and Bennie Longbine and David Longbine, both of Abilene; and seven grandchildren. DUMAS - David William Slagle, 57, formerly of Dumas, died Wednesday, Sept. 6, 2000, in Salt Lake City. Memorial services will be at 10 a.m. Friday in Morrison Funeral Directors Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Roger Orr, minister of missions, officiating. Mr. Slagle was born in Dumas and was a former longtime resident. He graduated from Dumas High School in 1961. He served in the Army during the 1960s. He was a mechanic and a member of First Baptist Church. He moved to Livingston, Mont., six years ago. Survivors include a daughter, Bobbye Dawn Faris of Dumas; two sisters, Nina Goldsmith of Dumas and Fay Ary of Eddy; a brother, Bob Slagle of Dumas; and two great-grandchildren. QUANAH - Martin E. McDaniel, 86, died Tuesday Sept. 12, 2000. Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday in First Baptist Church with the Rev. Clinton Young, minister, officiating. Burial will be in Quanah Memorial Park by Price-Jackson Funeral Home. Mr. McDaniel was born in Gould, Okla. During World War II, he served in the Army. He lived in Hardeman County for 60 years, moving from Oklahoma. He was a farmer and a retired custodian for Hardeman County Courthouse and the First National Bank. He was a member of the First Baptist Church. He married Willie May Little at Hollis, Okla. Survivors include his wife; a brother, Burl McDaniel of Quanah and a sister, Jerelene Pole of Cisco. STRATFORD - Nicolasa Palma, 67, died Tuesday, Sept. 11, 2000. Rosary was recited at 7 p.m. Wednesday in St. Joseph Catholic Church. Services will be at 3 p.m. today in the church with the Rev. Jerry Stein officiating. Burial will be in Stratford Cemetery by Morrison Funeral Directors. Mrs. Palma was born in Chihuahua, Mexico and had lived in Stratford since 1954. She was a housekeeper and a member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church. She married Jesus A. Palma in 1961 at Mexico. Survivors include her husband; a son, Leonel Palma of Stratford; a sister, Ruth Diaz of Stratford; and four grandchildren. The family will be at 119 S. Chestnut. QUANAH - Silas N. "Buddy" Mitchell Jr., 83, died Wednesday, Sept. 13, 2000. Services will be at 2 p.m. today in First Baptist Church with the Rev. Clinton Young, minister, officiating. Burial will be in Quanah Memorial Park by Price-Jackson Funeral Home. Mr. Mitchell was born in Hardeman County and was a lifetime resident. He graduated from Quanah High School and attended Oklahoma A&M University. During World War II, he served in the Army as a first sergeant in Japan and the Philippines. He was former manager of Cameron Lumber Co., and co-founder of Mitchell Hardware in 1948. He owned and operated F&M Tire Co. from 1963 to 1980, when he retired. After retirement he worked for Archer Daniels Midland oil mill. Mr. Mitchell was a member of the Quanah Masonic Lodge No. 689 AF&AM and the First Baptist Church. He married Dorotha Mae Green in 1935 at Hollis, Okla. She died in 1988. He also was preceded in death by a daughter Sandra Mitchell, in 1996. Survivors include nieces and nephews. PADUCAH - Nellie Isabelle Anglin, 84, died Tuesday, Sept. 12, 2000. Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday in the Church of Christ with David Alessandro, pastor, the Rev. James Hooper, pastor of First Baptist Church, and the Rev. Jeff Utter, pastor of the First United Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Paducah Garden of Memories by Seigler Funeral Home. Mrs. Anglin was born in Kiowa County, Okla. She moved to Texas in 1929 and to Paducah in 1941. She was a member of the Church of Christ in Paducah. She married Horace Anglin in 1942 at Paducah. They owned a painting and wallpaper company. He died in 1988. Survivors include five sisters; Edith Vaught, Daisy Criswell, Faye Sparks and Delois Beck, all of Paducah and Dortha Loose of Paso Robles, Calif. BORGER - LaVerne Irene Anders, 50, died Tuesday, Sept. 12, 2000, in Amarillo. Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. today in Erick Cemetery at Erick, Okla., with the Rev. Charlie Floyd, pastor of Texola Baptist Church of Texola, Okla., officiating. Arrangements are by Mintonƒ/ƒChatwell Funeral Directors of Borger. Ms. Anders was born in Sayre, Okla., and had lived in the Borger and Stinnett area since 1953, moving from Erick, Okla. She was past manager of the Diamond Shamrock corner store in Borger and a member of the First Christian Church. Survivors include two daughters, Marie Keys of Amarillo and Melanie Anders of Borger; her parents, Archie and Irene Flowers of Borger; a brother, James Flowers of Dallas; a sister, Anita Williams of Rye, Colo.; and one grandchild. BORGER - Chester R. Guliford, 79, died Tuesday, Sept. 12, 2000. Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. today in Sunset Memorial Cemetery at Stinnett with the Rev. Jim Russell, pastor of First Church of the Nazarene of Fritch, officiating. Arrangements are by Mintonƒ/ƒChatwell Funeral Directors of Borger. Mr. Guliford was born in Johnson, Kan., and had lived in Borger for the past 30 years. During World War II, he served in the Army in France and central Europe. He received several medals and ribbons. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ida Ruth Guliford in 1999. Survivors include a brother, Herbert Earl Guliford of Leavenworth, Kan. WELLINGTON - Cheryl J. Estes, 56, died Sunday, Sept. 10, 2000, in Dallas. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Friday in North Fairview Cemetery with the Rev. James McLeod, pastor of the First Baptist Church, officiating. Arrangements are by Adams Funeral Home. Ms. Estes was born in Wellington and graduated from Wellington High School in 1962. She attended Draughon's Business College. She was a longtime resident of Dallas. She was a secretary and a member of the First Baptist Church. Survivors include a son, David Hairgrove of Dallas; a daughter, Rynda Munn of Wichita Falls; and her mother, Lola Estes of Wellington. The family suggests memorials be to the American Cancer Society. Zita Turner Brown, 59, of Amarillo, died Tuesday, Sept. 12, 2000. Services will be at 10 a.m. today in N.S. Griggs & Sons Funeral Directors, Pioneer Chapel, 2615 Paramount Blvd., with the Rev. Wayne Hicks of Valley View Church of the Nazarene, officiating. Burial will be at 2 p.m. MST today in Campo Cemetery at Campo, Colo. Mrs. Brown was born in Lamar, Colo. She was raised in Campo and graduated from Campo High School in 1959. In 1960 she moved from Campo to Amarillo. She was a homemaker and a member of the Central Church of the Nazarene. She married Jesse Ray Turner in 1959. He died in 1986. She married Roy Lee Brown in 1990 at Stilwell, Okla. She also was preceded in death by two sons, Michael Ray Turner, in 1964 and Shane Ray Turner, in 1975. Survivors include her husband; a son, Jesse Turner of Amarillo; a daughter, Valarie Blagburn of Diamond, Mont.; two brothers, Daryle England of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Leroy England of Campo; seven grandchildren; and two great-granddaughters. Joseph W. Wolfe, 82, of Amarillo, died Wednesday, Sept. 13, 2000. Services will be at 3 p.m. Friday in Pleasant Valley Christian Church with the Rev. Jerry Davey officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery by N.S. Griggs & Sons Funeral Directors, 2615 Paramount Blvd. Mr. Wolfe was born in Cameron, La. During World War II, he served in the Army. He worked for the Texas Highway Department, Bell Helicopter and retired from Amarillo Independent School District. He was a member of the Pleasant Valley Christian Church. He married Pauline Shelton in 1943. She died in 1993. He also was preceded in death by a son, Joe A. Wolfe, in 1991. Survivors include a daughter, Dianna Graves of Amarillo; eight grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren. TUCUMCARI, N.M. - Jane Elizabeth Morris Martinez, 53, formerly of Tucumcari, died Monday, Sept. 11, 2000, in Rio Rancho. Rosary will be recited at 7:30 p.m. Friday in St. Anne's Catholic Church. Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in the church with the Rev. Scott Hackler, pastor of Community of Joy Lutheran Church in Rio Rancho, and the Rev. John C. Daniel, pastor of St. Anne's, officiating. Burial will be in Tucumcari Memorial Park Cemetery by Dunn Funeral Home. Mrs. Martinez was born in Tucumcari. She graduated from Tucumcari High School in 1964. She lived for 20 years in Coon Rapids, Minn., and moved recently to Rio Rancho. She was a homemaker and a member of Community of Joy Lutheran Church. Survivors include her husband, Robert Martinez; a son, Eric Berge of Billings, Mont.; three daughters, Catherine Deapen of Albuquerque, Suzann Franco of El Paso, Texas, and Deborah Aguilar of Enid, Okla.; two sisters, Joan Farrow and Barbara Stallcup, both of Tucumcari; and five grandchildren. Viewing will continue until 7:30 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. LAS CRUCES, N.M. - Nona K. Echols, 83, died Sunday, Sept. 9, 2000, in El Paso, Texas. Services will be at 2 p.m. today in Steed-Todd Funeral Home Chapel at Clovis with Gene Peugh officiating. Burial will be in Lawn Haven Memorial Gardens at Clovis. Miss Echols was born in Curry County. She was valedictorian of the class of 1935 at Field High School. She lived in Curry County most of her life, moving to Las Cruces five years ago. She was a member of the Curry County Extension Club. She was homemaker and a Baptist. Survivors include two sisters, Isabel Fewel of San Diego and Margaret Witcher of Las Cruces. CLOVIS, N.M. - Cecil W. Huff, 60, died Monday, Sept. 11, 2000. Rosary was at 7 p.m. Wednesday in Cannon Air Force Base Chapel. Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. today in the base chapel by Bob Pullings, deacon. Burial will be in Lawn Haven Memorial Gardens with military honors by Cannon Air Force Base Honor Guard. Arrangements are by Steed-Todd Funeral Home. Mr. Huff was born in Walters, Okla. He served in the Air Force, retiring in 1985 as a master sergeant at Cannon Air Force Base. He then moved to Ellensburg, Wash., where he earned a bachelor's degree in Occupational Safety and Health from Central Washington University. In 1989, he returned to Cannon Air Force Base to work as the base safety officer. He was a member of the Disabled American Veterans and volunteered with Girl Scouts. Mr. Huff married Adelaide Ponta in 1972 at Portland, Ore. Survivors include his wife; three daughters, Maria Huff of Clovis, Catrina Huff of Socorro and Theresa Huff of Lubbock, Texas; two brothers, James Huff of St. Helens, Ore., and David Huff of Sandusky, Ohio; two sisters, Patricia Ann Rhodes of New Hampshire and Carol Brese of Washington. CLOVIS, N.M. - Michael Johnson, 45, died Sunday, Sept. 10, 2000. Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday in The Chapel with Waymon Dowdy, minister, officiating. Cremation and arrangements by Muffley Funeral Home Inc. Mr. Johnson was born in Clovis and was a lifetime resident. He worked as cook for Foxy Drive In. He was of the Church of Christ faith. Survivors include a daughter Raimey Latrice Johnson of Grand Forks, N.D.; four brothers, Johnny Johnson, Paul Johnson, Terry Johnson and Don Johnson, all of Clovis; three sisters Meredith Johnson and Mary Anderson, both of Amarillo and Martha Johnson of Clovis; and one grandchild. ALVARADO - Brenda Pearl McCracken, 51, died Tuesday, Sept. 12, 2000, in Fort Worth. Graveside services will be at 3 p.m. Saturday in Tell Cemetery at Tell with Mike Willingham, of the Church of Christ of Mansfield, officiating. Arrangements are by Johnson Funeral Home of Childress. Mrs. McCracken was born in Amarillo. She resided in Alvarado at the time of her death. She was a homemaker and member of the Church of Christ of Amarillo. Survivors include two daughters, Misty Lynn Hancon of White Lake, Mich., and Brandy Ann Goodsite of Fort Worth; her mother, Lucille McCracken of Amarillo; two brothers, John McCracken and Henry McCracken, both of Possum Kingdom; four grandchildren; and a special friend, Sam Cox of Cleburne. The family suggests memorials be to Community Hospice of Texas, 301 Medpark Circle, Fort Worth, TX 76028. LUBBOCK - Ruth Byrd, 80, died Tuesday, Sept. 12, 2000. Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday in Melonie Park Baptist Church with the Rev. Roger Wisdom officiating. Arrangements are by of Rix Funeral Directors Mrs. Byrd was born in Fort Worth and graduated from Amarillo High School. She retired from Lubbock Independent School District as a senior accountant after 26 years. She was past Worthy Matron of the Order of the Eastern Star, University Chapter and an active member of Melonie Park Baptist Church, where she also worked in the Parents Day Out and nursery. She married Neal Byrd in 1937 at Woodlake. Survivors include her husband; three sons, Gary Byrd, Littleton, Colo., Ken Byrd, Duncanville and Sam Byrd of Wimberly; and six grandchildren.
