Amarillo Daily News, June 15, 2000 Roy Leonard Linton Roy Leonard Linton, 85, of Amarillo, died Sunday, June 11, 2000. Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday in Memorial Park Funeral Home, Chapel of Memories, 6969 E. Interstate 40, with the Rev. David Brown officiating. Burial will be in Llano Cemetery. Mr. Linton was born in Lincoln County, Okla., and was a longtime resident of Amarillo. He had worked as a janitor for the Amarillo Independent School District, retiring in 1985. Mr. Linton married Florine Smith in 1958 at Amarillo. She died in 1986. He also was preceded in death by two daughters, Esteline Groller, in 1990, and Zella Woods this year. Survivors include two daughters, Camille Brown of Georgia and Dorothy F. Bailey of Amarillo; two sons, Roy Wayne Linton and Daniel Martin Linton, both of Amarillo; 18 grandchildren; and 19 greatgrandchildren. Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday in Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, Ivy Chapel, 2820 Virginia Circle, with the Rev. Richard Higley, associate pastor of Chaparral Hills Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Llano Cemetery. Mr. Thurston was born in Broken Arrow, Okla., and had lived in Amarillo for 40 years. He had worked in freight delivery for Yellow Freight System Inc. and was a member of the Teamsters Local No. 577. Mr. Thurston married Rita Ida Hoffman in 1965 at Wheeler. She died in 1999. Survivors include a son, Gordon David Thurston Jr. of Amarillo; a stepson, Mark Jones of Amarillo; three stepdaughters, Gail Hutto of Sacramento, Calif., Dava Dunn and Kim Martinez, both of Amarillo; a brother, Wayne Thurston of Tulsa, Okla.; a sister, Virginia Collie of Amarillo; 12 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Amarillo Daily News, June 15, 2000 LaVeda Sargent LaVeda Sargent, 91, formerly of Amarillo, died Monday, June 12, 2000, in Richardson. Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday in BlackburnShaw Funeral Directors, Memorial Chapel, Fifth Avenue and Pierce Street, with Pat Clark officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery at Pampa. Mrs. Sargent was born on a farm between Norman, Okla., and Oklahoma City. She moved with her family to Illinois, Indiana and Montana before settling in Pampa, where she graduated from high school. Married in Pierre, S.D., in 1949, she and her late husband, Dot, came to Amarillo in 1933. Later, as ranchers, they bred and raised quarter horses in Rapid City, S.D. She had worked for White & Kirk and Hub Clothiers as a seamstress. Mrs. Sargent was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star Chapter No. 787, the High Plains Quilters Guild and the First Church of Christ, Scientist. She also was a docent with the Amarillo Art Center and in 1991, was recognized as a Keep Amarillo Beautiful volunteer. Mrs. Sargent is survived by a niece, Shirley Barclay of Amarillo; and seven cousins. Amarillo Daily News, June 15, 2000 New Mexico Ray Lynn Black DES MOINES, N.M. - Ray Lynn "R.L." Black, 88, died Tuesday, June 13, 2000, in Raton. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Friday in Des Moines Cemetery with the Rev. M.R. "Cotton" Mitchell officiating. Arrangements are by Hass Funeral Directors of Clayton. Mr. Black was born in Severy, Kan., and in 1913 the family homesteaded north of Des Moines. In 1929, he graduated from Des Moines High School and attended college in Las Vegas, N.M. During World War II, he served in the Army. Mr. Black was a rancher and had also worked as a rural mail carrier for Des Moines and Grenville. He was a member of the First Baptist Church, where he was a deacon and Sunday school superintendent. He also was a 33rd Degree Mason at Gate City Masonic Lodge and a member of the American Legion. He was a past member of the Order of the Eastern Star and the New Mexico Rural Carriers Association. He married Willie Pearl Adams in 1957 at Crandall. She died in 1999. Survivors include one niece; four nephews; great-nieces and great-nephews. The family suggests memorials be to favorite charity. Combined services will be at 10 a.m. Friday in St. Luke's United Methodist Church. Burial will be in Evergreen East Cemetery by Sunset Funeral Home-Carolina. Carroll Dibler was a longtime El Paso resident. She taught speech at Bel Air High School. Kristen Dibler had lived in El Paso all her life. She graduated from Bel Air High School. She was a college student and was office manager at Gymnastics Elite. Carroll Dibler is survived by her husband, Robert L. Dibler; a son, Robert Dibler; two daughters, Carrie Dibler and Kellie Dibler-Smith; a brother, Craig L. Johnson; and two grandchildren. Kristen Dibler is survived by her father, Robert L. Dibler; a brother, Robert Dibler; and two sisters, Carrie Dibler and Kellie Dibler-Smith. Mrs. Simons was born in Coryell County and had been a resident of the Lubbock area since 1941. She worked for Frenship School District from 1957-65, for JCPenney from 1969-74, and for Hemphill Wells from 1974-79. She was a member of the Bacon Heights Baptist Church. She married O.D. Simons in 1940 at Coryell County. He died in 1987. She also was preceded in death by a son, Charles Simons, in 1983. Survivors include two sons, Dennis Simons of Gilbert, Ariz., and Carl Simons of Amarillo; three granddaughters; three great-grandchildren. Amarillo Daily News, June 15, 2000 Area Roland Arthur Dingman PERRYTON - Roland Arthur Dingman, 78, died Tuesday, June 13, 2000. Services will be at 11 a.m. today in Fellowship Baptist Church with the Rev. John Durham and the Rev. Bill Sparks officiating. Burial will be in Ochiltree County Cemetery by Good Samaritan Funeral Service in Booker. Mr. Dingman was born in Theresa, N.Y., and grew up in Alexandria Bay, N.Y., and the LaFargeville, N.Y., area, where he attended school. He farmed in the LaFargeville area and also had worked as a cheese maker, contractor and carpenter. He retired in 1990 and moved to Perryton in 1995. He married Marion Hawn in 1943 at LaFargeville. She died in 1999. He also was preceded in death by a son, Clarence Dingman; and by a daughter, Carol Towles. Survivors include three sons, Dale Dingman of LaFargeville, Ronald Dingman of Perryton and Randy Dingman of Forgan, Okla.; five daughters, Linda Hartman, Kay VanBrocklin and Beverly Side, all of Redwood, N.Y., and Bonnie Hartle and Sharon Cramer, both of Perryton; two sisters, including twin Ruth Flood and Marion Hall, both of LaFargeville; 24 grandchildren; and 29 great-grandchildren. Mr. Wood was born in Roscoe and attended school in Fairlie. He served in the military during World War II. He moved to Plainview in 1950. He sold shoes for the Napp Shoe Co. He founded Wood Chemical & Equipment Co. in 1959 and retired in 1982. He married Betty Ruth Merrell in 1975 at Quitaque. He was preceded in death by a son, Michael Berry Wood. Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Leah Smith of Minden, La., and Donna Burton of Muleshoe; two sons, Steve Wood of Vancouver, Wash., and Don Douglas of Midland; two sisters, Joe Marie Winton of Dallas and Tressie McFadden of Sulfur Springs; seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery. Mr. Chavez was born and raised in Tulia. He graduated from Tulia High School this year. While in high school, he was involved in football, baseball, basketball, track and power lifting. Survivors include his parents, Enedina and Rosario Chavez of Tulia; a sister, Veronica Garcia of Tulia; a brother, Christopher Chavez of Tulia; and grandparents, Cipriano and Jesusa Soliz and Ladislao Chavez, all of Tulia. Jay Simpson, pastor of First Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Parklawn Memorial Gardens in Plainview by Wood-Dunning Funeral Home in Plainview. Mr. Scott was born in Memphis. He grew up in Anton and attended school there. He moved in 1955 to Kress, where he farmed. He was a member of First Baptist Church. He married Marquetta Reed in 1950 at Anton. She died in 1976. Survivors include two sons, Gary Scott of Plainview and Jackie Scott of Kress; two daughters, Beverly Cortez of Coleman and Judy Scott of Abilene; a brother, R.L. Scott of Muleshoe; a sister, Joyce Turnbow of Kentucky; 11 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. Mrs. Hamlin was born in Johnson County. She had been a resident of Earth since 1936 until moving to Lubbock in 1992. She was a homemaker and a Jehovah's Witness. She married George Kasinger in 1932 at Lovington, N.M. He died in 1975. She married William Hamlin in 1977 at Muleshoe. He died in 1987. Survivors include a daughter, Dorothy Kasinger Bell of Lubbock; three grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. The family will be at 8503 Rochester in Lubbock today.
