Memorial services will be at 10 a.m. today in Morrison Funeral Directors Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Roger Orr, minister of missions, officiating. Mr. Slagle was born in Dumas. He graduated from Dumas High School in 1961. He served in the Army during the 1960s. He was a mechanic and member of First Baptist Church. He moved to Livingston, Mont., six years ago. Survivors include a daughter, Bobbye Dawn Faris of Dumas; two sisters, Nina Goldsmith of Dumas and Fay Ary of Eddy; a brother, Bob Slagle of Dumas; and two grandchildren. DUMAS - Homa C. Grant, 93, of Pampa and formerly of Dumas, died Wednesday, Sept. 13, 2000. Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in Dumas Cemetery with his grandson, Mark Hill, and Lonny Robbins of Trinity Fellowship Church in Pampa officiating. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors in Dumas. Mr. Grant was born in Golden, Wood County. He lived in Hall County before moving to Dumas 58 years ago. He worked for Boxwell Brothers Furniture and Hardware Store and bought the business in 1957, changing the name to Grant's Hardware. He retired in 1972. He served as a Dumas City Councilman and was a member of the Dumas Planning Commission, the Lions Club, Rotary Club and the Church of Christ. He was an avid backer of Dumas High School sports. He was preceded in death by his wife, Virginia Mary Grant, in 1997. Survivors include four daughters, Jan Dollar of Dumas, Wynona Robinson-Box of Pampa, Yvonne Hill of Kilbourne, La., and Shirley Waller of Pampa; a sister, Billie Bolton of Fayetteville, Ark.; 10 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren. The family suggests memorials be to Trinity Fellowship Church Youth Center Fund, 1200 S. Sumner, Pampa TX 79065. PLAINVIEW - Henry Scott, 87, died Wednesday, Sept. 13, 2000. Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday in Lemons Funeral Home Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Don Robertson, pastor of College Heights Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Plainview Memorial Park. Mr. Scott was born in Redondo Beach, Calif. He moved to Bee County in 1928, to the Claytonville community in 1934 and to Plainview in 1979. He worked in maintenance for Wellington House in Plainview for several years and farmed in the Claytonville community until his retirement. He was a member of College Heights Baptist Church. He married Rosie Lee Moore in 1932 at Beeville. She died in 1999. Survivors include a sister, Clara McWhorter. The family suggests memorials be to College Heights Baptist Church. The family will receive visitors at 3 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. QUANAH - Elvin "Peter" Pate, 95, died Wednesday, Sept. 13, 2000. Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in Price-Jackson Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Lonnie Watkins and the Rev. Tyrone Campbell officiating. Burial will be in Quanah Memorial Park. Mr. Pate was born in Emmet, Ark. He moved to Quanah in 1955 from Arkansas. He was a retired farm laborer and member of Macedonia Baptist Church. He married Ida Spence in 1924 at Emmet. She died in 1984. He also was preceded in death by two sons, Jimmie Lee Pate and Luther Primes; and by two daughters, Irma Pate and Dorothy Watkins. Survivors include six grandsons, Elma Jiles Jr., Elmo Jiles Sr., Johnnie Watkins, Lonnie Watkins, Sidney Watkins and Ronnie Watkins, all of Quanah; three granddaughters, Mary McGregor, Dorothy Jackson and Ida Mitchell, all of Quanah; many great and great-great-grandchildren; and a nephew. BORGER - Dovie L. "Ducky" McKown, 85, died Tuesday, Sept. 12, 2000, in Amarillo. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in Westlawn Memorial Park with the Rev. David Langen, pastor of Bunavista Baptist Church officiating. Arrangements are by Mintonƒ/ƒChatwell Funeral Directors. Mrs. McKown was born in Harmon County, Oklahoma. She grew up in Hollis, Okla., and attended school in Mclean. She worked in the cotton fields with her family. During World War II she worked at a shipyard in Long Beach, Calif. Later she moved to Borger where she worked as a "B" operator for Phillips Petroleum Co., until the war ended. She worked at the Cabells Children's Day Care of Borger in the 1950s and also worked in nursing homes. She was a founding member of Bunavista Baptist Church and a member of the 45 Uppers of Amarillo. She married Earnest O'Neal Hugg in 1935 at Pampa. He died in 1947. She married James Edgar McKown. He died in 1968. She also was preceded in death by a daughter, Juney Neal Hugg, in 1940. Survivors include a son, Jimmy McKown of Amarillo; a daughter, Judy Grimes of Yorba Linda, Calif.; a brother, Louis Thurman Kite of Amarillo; a sister, Marie Elizabeth Ellis of Camp Verde, Ariz.; seven grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. TULIA - Francisca "La Bebe" Chapa, 75, of Kress, died Tuesday, Sept. 12, 2000, in Lubbock. Rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. today in Wallace Funeral Home. Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in Church of the Holy Spirit with the Rev. John Salazar-Jimenez officiating. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery. Mrs. Chapa was born and raised in Fentress. She moved to Lubbock in 1950, to Burleson in 1989 and to Kress in 1999. She was a Catholic. She married Refugio Chapa Sr. in 1942 at Prairie Lea. Survivors include her husband; two daughters, Olivia Arrizola of Grandview and Virginia Marruffo of Burleson; a son, Refugio Chapa Jr. of Tulia; two brothers, Juan Castro Jr. and Pete Castro Sr., both of Lubbock; three sisters, Elosia Garcia, Elena Montemayor and Lily Luerra, all of Lubbock; six grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren. DUMAS - Agnes Irene Sewell, 88, died Tuesday, Sept. 12, 2000, in Dallas. Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in Morrison Funeral Directors Memorial Chapel. Burial will be in Northlawn Memorial Gardens. Arrangements are by Robertson Funeral Directors of Clarendon. Mrs. Sewell was born in Claude. She lived in Pampa, moving to Dumas in 1937, and then to Dallas several years ago. She was a retired registered nurse and alumni of St. Vincent De Paul School of Nursing. She was an honorary nurse member of the American Red Cross. She was a member of Order of the Eastern Star, 1932 Study Club and First Baptist Church in Dumas. She married Alton Edward Sewell in 1936 at Pampa. He died in 1990. Survivors include a daughter, Carol Irene Lewis of Garland; a son, Edward Lee Sewell of Dallas; five grandsons and three great-grandchildren. The body will be available for viewing from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. Saturday at Morrison Funeral Directors. The family will be at 602 Phillips. Jack G. Troup, 75, of Amarillo, died Tuesday, Sept. 5, 2000. Graveside services will be at 3:30 p.m. today in Llano Cemetery with Dr. Jim Garrett of Polk Street United Methodist Church officiating. Arrangements are by Blackburn-Shaw Funeral Directors Memorial Chapel, Fifth Avenue and Pierce Street. Mr. Troup was born in Boulder, Colo. He graduated from Amarillo High School in 1943 and attended Amarillo College and West Texas State Teachers College. He served in the Army during World War II. He was a property developer. He was a member of Polk Street United Methodist Church and the Maverick Sunday school class. Survivors include three cousins, Peggy Hill of Amarillo, Marc Gibson of St. Charles, Mo., and Nancy Brock of Las Vegas. Joe S. Martin, 85, of Amarillo, died Wednesday, Sept. 13, 2000. Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Coulter Road Baptist Church with Dr. Larry Payne officiating. Burial will be in Llano Cemetery by Schooler-Gordon Funeral Directors, 5400 Bell St. Mr. Martin was born in Plainview. He was a retired engineer of Burlington Northern Railroad. He was a member of United Transportation Union and a charter member of Coulter Road Baptist Church. He married Juanita Hallmark in 1944 at Amarillo. She died in 1989. Survivors include a daughter, Nancy Wineinger of Amarillo; three sisters, Anne Widick of Amarillo, Pauline Jacks of Arnett, Okla., and Pearline Roberts of Sudan; a granddaughter, Tamme Aureli of Amarillo, who provided primary care; four other grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. Visitation will be from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. today and from 8 to 11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home. The family suggests memorials be to the Arthritis Foundation. Joseph R. Shackelford, 95, of Amarillo, died Wednesday, Sept. 13, 2000. Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in North Amarillo Church of Christ with Glen Walton officiating. Burial will be in Llano Cemetery by Blackburn-Shaw Funeral Directors, Martin Road Chapel, 15th Avenue and Martin Road. Mr. Shackelford was born in Amarillo. He owned North Amarillo Cleaners for 37 years. He was a member of the Kiwanis Club and North Amarillo Church of Christ, where he served as deacon and elder. He married Ruby Smith in 1931 at Amarillo. Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Mae Ellen Morgan of Fayetteville, Ark., and Thelma Hall of North Little Rock, Ark.; two foster children, Vernon L. Williams of Abilene and Enola Gay Boyd of Ralls; a sister, Sylvia Waner of McMinnville, Ore.; 17 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren. Icel June Gouldy Hazlett, 80, formerly of Amarillo, died Tuesday, Sept. 12, 2000, in San Bernardino, Calif. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in Palo Duro Cemetery at Wildorado with the Rev. Max Browning, pastor of First United Methodist Church of Plainview, officiating. Arrangements are by N.S. Griggs & Sons Funeral Directors, 2615 Paramount Blvd. Mrs. Hazlett was born in Canadian. She graduated from Canyon High School and attended Texas Women's University. She moved to Amarillo in 1945 and was a licensed vocational nurse for Northwest Texas Hospital. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church. She moved to San Bernardino in 1988. She married Eldon Gouldy in 1941 at Alamogordo, N.M. He died in 1976. She married Calvin Hazlett in 1988. Survivors include her husband; a son, Eldon Gouldy Jr. of Plainview; two stepsons, Greg Hazlett and Steve Hazlett, both of California; a brother, Russell Lewis of Morgan City, La.; three grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Grace Patterson Ivy, 89, of Canyon, died Tuesday, Sept. 12, 2000, in Farwell. Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in Brooks Funeral Directors Chapel with the Rev. Clark Williams, pastor of First United Methodist Church, and Jim Ivy officiating. Graveside services will be at 3 p.m. Saturday in Muleshoe Memorial Park Cemetery at Muleshoe. Mrs. Ivy was born in Goldthwaite and graduated from Goldthwaite High School. In 1946 she earned her bachelor's degree from Southwestern Texas State Teachers College. She was a home demonstration agent for Bayor, Wood, Taylor and Bailey counties. She married Henry Ivy in 1946. In 1949 they moved to a farm in the Lazbuddie community. He died in 1977. In 1996 she moved to Conner House, where she was a resident and hostess of the assisted living facility. She moved to Farwell in 1998. She was a member of First United Methodist Church of Canyon and the Daughters of the American Revolution. Survivors include six sisters-in-law, Ruth Patterson of Goldthwaite, La Verne Patterson of California, Oneita Wagnon of Muleshoe, Nola Ivy of Lubbock, Earlie Vee Ivy of Vinita, Okla., and Dolores Ivy of Dimmitt; three brothers-in-law, Ray Priddy of Priddy, Tony Ivy of Vinita, and R.V. Ivy of Dimmitt; 17 nieces and nine nephews. The family will receive friends at 10 a.m. Saturday in the funeral home. CLOVIS, N.M. - Tom Benitscheck Jr., 54, died Wednesday, Sept. 13, 2000. Rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. today in Steed-Todd Funeral Home Chapel. Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday in Sacred Heart Catholic Church by the Rev. Carlos Chavez. Burial will be in Mission Garden of Memories. Mr. Benitscheck was born in Cleveland. He was a manager at National Tax Service. He was a Red Cross volunteer, an amateur radio operator, a fourth-degree member of the Knights of Columbus and a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Survivors include his wife, Judy Benitscheck; a son, Tom Benitscheck III of Clovis; three daughters, Therese O'Leary of Las Vegas, Jennifer Taylor of Sallisaw, Okla., and Christina Benitscheck of Clovis; and six grandchildren. The family suggests memorials be to the National Kidney Cancer Association, 1234 Sherman Ave., Suite 203, Evanston, IL 60202. GEORGETOWN - Ed Nesthouse, 78, died Tuesday, Sept. 12, 2000. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday in Cook-Waldenƒ/ƒCapital Parks Funeral Home Cemetery of Pflugerville. Mr. Nesthouse was born in Gilman, Colo. Raised by Norwegian immigrant parents, he graduated high school at age 16. He worked in a local zinc mine and served in the Army during World War II. He worked at Los Alamos Laboratory in New Mexico and then for 30 years at the Atomic Energy Commission Pantex plant in Amarillo. He was a longtime member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 1475 in Amarillo and the American Legion. He was preceded in death by his wife, Alberta Elizabeth Hilliard Nesthouse. Survivors include his son, Al Nesthouse of Willis; a daughter, Anita Nesthouse Moore of Austin; three grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and seven step-great-grandchildren. DUBLIN - Kenny Dale Bishop, 53, died Thursday, Sept. 14, 2000, in Fort Worth. Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday in Harrell Funeral Home Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Mike Fritscher officiating. Burial will be in Proctor Cemetery. Mr. Bishop was born in Dublin. He was a distribution manager for a wholesale dealer. He was a member of Cottonwood Baptist Church. Survivors include a daughter, Andrea Chadwick of Amarillo; a sister, Carol Mitchell of Dublin and a brother, Clifton Pyburn of Hereford. The family suggests memorials be to Cottonwood Baptist Church, 1339 CR 305, Dublin, TX 76446. LITTLEFIELD - Eugene Sebert Bartley, 79, died Wednesday, Sept. 13, 2000. Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in Emmanual Lutheran Church with the Rev. Richard Lamb officiating. Burial will be in Littlefield Memorial Park by Hammons Funeral Home. Mr. Bartley was born in Springtown. He grew up in Fort Worth and moved to Littlefield in 1938. In 1940 he graduated from Littlefield High School. He served in the Navy in the South Pacific. He co-owned, with his father, Bartley's Auto Parts in Littlefield from 1938 to 1960. He worked as a bookkeeper for Nipak Fertilizer Co., retiring in 1982. He was a member of Emmanual Lutheran Church and served as elder, president, secretary and treasurer on many committees. He was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars. He married Ruth Drager in 1946 at Littlefield. Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Ginabeth McKinnon of Littlefield; a son, David Bartley of Mesquite; a brother, Frank Bartley of Levelland; and three grandchildren. The family suggests memorials be to Emmanual Lutheran Church. SAN ANTONIO - Norman Lee Naron, 56, died Wednesday, Sept. 13, 2000, in Ballinger. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday in Bell Avenue Church of Christ at Amarillo. Memorial services will be at 3:30 p.m. Monday in Northside Church of Christ in San Antonio. Burial will be in Llano Cemetery of Amarillo. Arrangements are by Rains-Seale Funeral Home. Mr. Naron was born in Crowell. He served as first lieutenant in the Army artillery from 1966-69. He was a distributor for Nikkon Industries and a member of Northside Church of Christ in San Antonio. He married Joan King in 1963 at Childress. Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Natalie Naron and Jeannine Naron; his parents, Ray and Sammie Naron of Plainview; a sister, Gwen Ricks of Childress; and a brother, Wesley Naron of Plainview.
