Vigil services will be at 7:30 p.m. today in Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors Colonial Chapel. Mass will be celebrated at 1 p.m. Friday in St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church by the Rev. John Valdez, pastor. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery. Born in Pampa, Mr. Martinez was a lifelong resident and attended Pampa High School. He worked for Okemah Construction Inc. in Okemah, Okla. He was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church. Survivors include his parents, Carlos Martinez Sr. of Pampa and Petra Martinez of Amarillo; eight sisters, Teresa Rodgers of Joshua, Silvia Martinez of Amarillo, Martha Ramey of Las Vegas, Dianna Powell of Hot Springs, Ark., Laura Gray, Helen Bridwell and Maggie Martinez, all of Pampa, and Anne Griffith of Belmont, Calif.; four brothers, Charles Martinez Jr. and Martin Martinez, both of Pampa, Paul Martinez of Los Angeles and David Martinez of Amarillo. The family suggests memorials be to the American Cancer Society; or St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church. Amarillo Daily News, Feb. 17, 2000 J.D. Thomas TULIA - J.D. Thomas, 99, died Tuesday, Feb. 15, 2000. Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in First United Methodist Church of Tulia with the Rev. Charles Broadhurst, retired Baptist minister, officiating. Graveside services will be at 3 p.m. in Littlefield Memorial Park in Littlefield by Wallace Funeral Home of Tulia. Mr. Thomas was born in Roger Mills County. He attended high school in Bowie. In 1918, he moved to Collingsworth County and worked in a bank. He then worked at several automobile dealerships in Duncan and Chickasha, Okla. During World War II, Mr. Thomas worked in a defense plant in the Chickasha area. After the war, he moved to Olton and joined his brother in a tax preparation service. He also was a bookkeeper for the Olton Gin. Mr. Thomas retired in 1979. He had worked for Jones Motor Co. in Littlefield and Armes Chevrolet. In Littlefield, he was a member of First Baptist Church. He moved to Tulia in 1994 where he was a member of the First United Methodist Church. He married Floy Lott Miller in 1959 at Floydada. She died in 1994. Survivors include two daughters, Glenna Lainio of Waukegan, Ill., and Marylyn Thompson of Rockwall; a stepson, Roy E. Miller of Tulia; a brother, Bill Thomas of Olton; 11 grandchildren; and 25 great-grandchildren. Amarillo Daily News, Feb. 17, 2000 William L. Oakley BORGER - William L. "Bill" Oakley, 74, died Tuesday, Feb. 15, 2000. Services will be at 2 p.m. today in Calvary Baptist Church with the Rev. D. Jay Lewis, pastor, and Dr. Thomas Tribble of Alvarado officiating. Burial will be in the Garden of Love in Westlawn Memorial Park by Minton / Chatwell Funeral Directors of Borger. Mr. Oakley was born in Bryant, Okla., and moved to Borger in 1947 from Seminole, Okla. During World War II, he served in the Merchant Marines. He was owner / operator of Oakley Insurance Co. Prior to working in the insurance business, Mr. Oakley worked for Phillips Petroleum. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church, Borger Elks Lodge, Adobe Walls No. 1355 Masonic Lodge, Borger Chamber of Commerce, Independent Agents Association of Texas and a past member of Evening Lions Club. He married Lola Jackson in 1946 at Seminole. Survivors include his wife; a son, William L. Oakley III of Amarillo; a daughter, Susan Tribble of Austin; a sister, Jacquline Henson of Enid, Okla.; and five grandchildren. Funeral mass will be at 2 p.m. Friday in Sacred Heart Catholic Church with the Rev. Elbert A. Fadallan, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Plainview Cemetery. Mr. Rodriquez was born in San Antonio and moved to Plainview 25 years ago from Tulia. He was a fabrication employee at Excel Meat Packing. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and the Crusillista at the church. He married Concepcion Briones in 1968 at Tulia. Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Leticia Rodriquez of Plainview; three stepdaughters, Azalia Solis, Candy Tonche and Estella Lopez, all of Plainview; two brothers, Juan Rodriquez of Minnesota and David Rodriquez of Lubbock; four sisters, Paula Marmolejo of Lubbock, Lupe Diaz of Fort Worth, Nicolasa Garcia of Floydada and Santos Camacho of Fort Lupton, Colo.; nine grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday in Central Church of Christ with Trey Morgan and Morgan Sturgess officiating. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery by Wallace Funeral Home of Tulia. Mr. Tole was born in Foard County and moved to Tulia in 1945. During World War II, he served in the Navy. He operated the Ben Franklin store and was a stock broker from 1967 until 1991. He was a charter member of the Tulia Kiwanis Club and Central Church of Christ. He married Odelene Candler in 1939 at Coleman. Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Sharon Anderson of Amarillo; a son, Bryan Tole of Tulia; two brothers, Glen Tole of Wichita Falls and L.Z. Tole of Fort Smith, Ark.; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. The family suggests memorials be to High Plains Children's Home of Amarillo. Amarillo Daily News, Feb. 17, 2000 Ruth Bolton Burk SPEARMAN - Ruth Bolton Burk, 93, formerly of Lubbock, died Tuesday, Feb. 15, 2000. Services will be at 1 p.m. today in Resthaven Funeral Home's Abbey Chapel in Lubbock with Paul Jantzen, pastor of Trinity Church, officiating. Burial will be in Resthaven Memorial Park. Mrs. Burk was born in Rockcreek, Okla., and graduated from Oklahoma Lane High School in 1924. In 1940, she graduated from West Texas State College. She retired as a school teacher. She taught in Oklahoma Lane community, Brown School in Bovina and Clovis, N.M., Junior High. Two years ago, Mrs. Burk moved to Spearman from Lubbock. She was a member of the Trinity Church in Lubbock. Survivors include two sisters, Georgia Nelson of Muleshoe and Helen Johnson of Redmond, Wash.; and a brother, Joe Bolton of Florida. John Ohlig celebrant. Burial will be in Floyd County Memorial Park. Mrs. Lira was born in Donna and attended schools in Mission and South Plains. In 1960, she moved to Floydada where she was a homemaker and member of St. Mary Magdalen Catholic Church. She married Jose Santillano Lira in 1967 at Los Ramomes, Mexico. Survivors include her husband; a son, Orlando Lira of Floydada; three daughters, Norma A. Watson, 80, died Wednesday, Feb. 16, 2000. Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday in First Baptist Church with the Rev. Bryan Knowles, pastor of Martin Baptist Church, and the Rev. John Denton of Borger officiating. Burial will be Citizens Cemetery by Robertson Funeral Directors. Mr. Watson was born in Red River County and had lived in the Martin community near Clarendon for 32 years. He was an Army veteran of World War II and a farmer. He served on the Clarendon School Board where he had been a past president. Mr. Watson was a member of Martin Baptist Church where he served as a deacon. He moved to Clarendon a year ago. He married Rose Lee Casteel in 1938 at Lakeview in Hall County. Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Gay Cole and Doris Mills, both of Clarendon; two sons, Faylon Watson and Larry Watson, both of Clarendon; two sisters, Jerri Bolles of Plainview and Lela Lester of Phoenix; a brother, Hap Watson of Groom; 15 grandchildren; and 19 greatgrandchildren. The family suggests memorials be to Martin Baptist Church, Citizens Cemetery in Clarendon or Baptist St. Anthony Hospice in Amarillo. Cremation is by Memory Gardens Crematory. Survivors include his wife, Elizabeth Farmer; a daughter, Judy Couch of Amarillo; three sons, James Farmer of Winnemucca, Nev., Randy Farmer of Harlan, Ind., and Micheal Farmer of Amarillo; his mother, Florence Ross of Amarillo; two brothers, Gordon Farmer of Amarillo and Roland Farmer of Las Vegas; and nine grandchildren. Memorial services will be at 9 a.m. today in Trinity Fellowship Church with Pastor Phil Mercado officiating. Cremation and other arrangements are by Rector Funeral Home, 2800 S. Osage St. Mrs. Mejia was born in Amarillo and had lived in Amarillo most of her life. She was a homemaker. Survivors include two sons, John Vierra III of Eugene, Ore., and Michael Vierra of Salt Lake City; a daughter, Johnette Vierra of Salt Lake City; and five grandchildren. The body will not be available for viewing. Amarillo Daily News, Feb. 17, 2000 Max Carver Max Carver, 67, of Amarillo, died Tuesday, Feb. 15, 2000. Services will be at 2 p.m. today in First Baptist Church with Jeff Raines officiating. Burial will be in Llano Cemetery by Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 S. Georgia St. Mr. Carver was born in Amarillo and graduated from Amarillo High School. He attended West Texas State University. A rancher, he worked for the Amarillo Livestock Auction. Mr. Carver was one of the top salesmen for the Bayer Corp. He was a member of the First Baptist Church. He married Doris Roberts in 1951.
