Graveside services were at 2 p.m. Sunday in Bailey County Cemetery with the Rev. Bob Burris officiating. Arrangements were by Ellis Funeral Home. Mrs. Copley was born in Trent and was a longtime resident of Muleshoe. She was a homemaker and a member of Progress Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by two sons, Walter Copley in 1982 and John Copley in 1985. Survivors include her husband, W.T. Copley; two sons, Randol Copley and Jerry Copley, both of Muleshoe; a daughter, Irene Musick of Anchorage, Alaska; 10 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Amarillo Daily News July 17, 2000 Ella L. Bailey DUMAS - Ella L. Bailey, 86, died Saturday, July 15, 2000. Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday in Highland Cemetery at Deport with the Rev. John David Griffith, associate pastor of the United Pentecostal Church of Paris, officiating. Arrangements are by Morrison Funeral Directors. Mrs. Bailey was born in Paris. Before moving to Dumas in 1960, she lived in Borger. She was a homemaker. In Dumas, she was co-owner of Bailey's Furniture and a member of United Pentecostal Church. She married Chester E. Bailey in 1935. He died in 1990. Her son, David Bailey, died in 1998. Survivors include two sons, J. Travis Bailey of Cartwright, Okla., and John P. Bailey of Dumas; a sister, Nedra Womack of Paris; eight grandchildren; great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. Viewing will be at Wood Funeral Home in Deport Tuesday until service time. Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday in First Baptist Church with the Rev. Toby Henson, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Kelton Cemetery at Kelton by Wright Funeral Home. Mrs. Calcote was born in Mobeetie and attended school in Briscoe. She worked at Mahnken Drug in Shamrock and was a member of First Baptist Church in Wheeler. She married Bobby J. Calcote in 1947 at Briscoe. He died in 1973. Survivors include a son, Bobby D. "Butch" Calcote of Wheeler; two daughters, Marla Gaye Lax of Shamrock and Donnie Lynette O'Gorman of Red River, N.M.; her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Eddie Pannell of Wheeler; a brother, Eddie John Pannell Jr., of Briscoe; a sister, Imogene Murray of Childress; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday in Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, Ivy Chapel, 2820 Virginia Circle, with the Rev. Robert Field, pastor of Southeast Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Mr. Pond was born in Heidenheimer and lived in Wheeler before moving to Amarillo in 1945. He retired after working as an independent in home improvement. A Mason, he was a member of First Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon. He married Lessa Revious in 1925 at Texola, Okla. She died in 1987. His daughter, Nina Cheadle, died in 1994. Survivors include two daughters, Dorothy Halford of Amarillo and Billie Campbell of Fort Collins, Colo.; a son, Henry Pond of Amarillo; a brother, J.T. Pond of Spearman; 11 grandchildren; and great-grandchildren. Visitation will be from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. today at the funeral home. Amarillo Daily News July 17, 2000 Canyon Paul Benavidez Jr. Paul Benavidez Jr., 62, of Canyon, died Friday, July 14, 2000, in Amarillo. Rosary will be recited by the Rev. John Hickey at 7 p.m. today at Brooks Funeral Directors Chapel in Canyon. Services will be at 11 a.m. MST Tuesday in St. Ann's Catholic Church in Tucumcari, N.M., with the Rev. John Daniel officiating. Burial will be in Montoya Cemetery at Tucumcari. Mr. Benavidez was born in Randall County. As a child, he moved to Tucumcari, where he graduated from Tucumcari High School. In 1975, he moved to Amarillo, where he owned and operated the Coulter Road Truck and Body Shop. He was a member of St. Ann's Catholic Church in Tucumcari. His daughter, Elisa, preceded him in death. He married Gloria Morse in 1988 at Phoenix. Survivors include his wife; five daughters, Teresa Benavidez of Daly City, Calif., Mary Lou Resendez of Tracy, Calif., Cindy Minier of Canyon, Debra Benavidez of San Mateo, Calif., and Anna Lee Horn of Amarillo; a son, John Griswold of Phoenix; a sister, Patricia Benavidez of Puyallup, Wash.; four brothers, Emitero Benavidez, Antonio Benavidez, Jimmy Benavidez, and Carmel Benavidez, all of Albuquerque, N.M.; and eight grandchildren. Morton CLOVIS, N.M. - Yvonne B. Morton, 60, died Friday, July 14, 2000. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. MST Tuesday in Fort Sumner Cemetery at Fort Sumner. Arrangements are by Chavez Funeral Home of Fort Sumner. Mrs. Morton was born in Fort Sumner. After attending school in Fort Sumner and Sandia View Academy in Albuquerque, she worked as a teacher and day care provider. She was a member of Seventh Day Adventist Church. She moved to Clovis in 1984. She married Donald L. Morton in 1962 at Mineral Wells, Texas. Survivors include her husband; three daughters, Letha Ayn Howell and Leah Johnson, both of Clovis, and Devonna Phillips of Edwards Air Force Base, Calif.; a son, Derrick Morton of Norman, Okla.; a brother, Ralph Bailey of Keene, Texas; three sisters, Geraldine Phillips of Clovis, Olivene Hoover of Portland, Tenn., and Jonnie Lea of Clarksville, Tenn.; and five grandchildren. Achen, 84, died Friday, July 14, 2000, in El Paso, Texas. Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday in First Baptist Church with the Rev. Jim Peabody officiating. Burial will follow in Yeso Cemetery at Yeso by Chavez Funeral Home. Mrs. Achen was born in Doretta and moved to Yeso, where she attended school. After graduating from Fort Sumner High School, she attended Amarillo Junior College, Highlands University and Eastern New Mexico University. From 1938 until 1967, she taught in Yeso and was instrumental in organizing the Parent Teachers Association, a Boy Scout troop and a 4-H club. From 1967 until her retirement in 1973, she taught at Fort Sumner Elementary School. In 1967, she was named Masonic Teacher of the Year. She was also elected to the Hall of Fame for the Southeast District of the National Education Association in New Mexico. She was a member of the New Mexico Education Retirees and a member of First Baptist Church in Fort Sumner. Survivors include two sons, Jack Achen of Yeso and Tyson Achen of Las Cruces; a daughter, Marcie Salopek of Las Cruces; eight grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. After graduating from Guymon High School in 1948, she attended Panhandle A&M University at Goodwell. She worked at City National Bank, retiring as vice president in 1992. The owner and operator of Pat's Antiques and Collectibles, she was a member of Grace Southern Baptist Church, Beta Tau chapter of Epsilon Sigma Alpha, and Business and Professional Women. She married Marcus C. Brune in 1949 at Guymon. Survivors include her husband; three daughters, Carla Stewart of Balko, Donna Brune of Denver, and Marsha Mayer of Guymon; three sisters, Doris St. Clair of Everett, Wash., Arlys Jacobs of Dillon, Colo., and Mary Lynn O'Hanlon of McAlester; two brothers, Colin Brown of Redwood City, Calif., and Jerry Brown of Coronado, Calif.; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Mrs. Puckett was born in Amherst and moved to Lazbuddie from Earth 22 years ago. She worked as a business administrator for the Olton Public School System and was a member of Lazbuddie Church of Christ. She married Ronnie Puckett in 1978 at Earth. Walter Goodnight, pastor of Shadow Hills Baptist Church, assisting. Mrs. Gray was born in Roaring Springs and graduated from Monterey High School in Lubbock in 1961. Before returning to Lubbock in 1970, she lived in Amarillo. She was a volunteer for Lakeridge and Windcrest Rehabilitation Centers and attended Second Baptist Church in Lubbock. From 1961 until 1969, she was married to Ted Gray. Her son, Teddy Duke Gray II, died in 1962. Survivors include four daughters, Patricia Gray of Hawaii, Debbie Pittman of Dallas, Kim Preston of Amarillo, and Darla Gray of Pottsboro; her mother, Faye Walters of Lubbock; three sisters, Dartha Westbrook and Nona Doss, both of Lubbock, and Carol Williamson of Abernathy; and four grandchildren.
