Memorial services will be at 3 p.m. Thursday in First Christian Church with the Rev. Dean McManara and Robert Carter Jr. officiating. Cremation is by Bartley-Silva Funeral Home. Mr. Carter was born in Plainview. He attended Plainview High School and graduated from Kemper Military Academy in Booneville, Mo., before studying at Texas Tech University. In 1943 he earned a bachelor's degree in civil engineering from Oklahoma University. During World War II he served in Guam as a Navy lieutenant. After the war he returned to Plainview, where he farmed and operated CBar Feed Yard. He was a charter member and past president of Texas Cattle Feeders Association. He represented TCFA at the National Livestock and Meat Board and was a regional vice president of the National Cattlemen's Association. He served on the Beef Development Task Force and was chairman of the National Livestock and Meat Board. He was instrumental in the formation of the National Cattlemen's Beef Association. He was a state representative to the Cattlemen's Beef Board in 1990. He was secretary / treasurer and chairman of the Beef Promotion and Research Board. Mr. Carter had been a member and president of the Plainview school board. He was a member of First Christian Church and president of the church board. He married Reta Jane Norman in 1946 at Plainview. Survivors include his wife; three daughters, Jane Carter of New Orleans, Mary Carter of Los Angeles and Page Carter of Boston; a son, Robert Ellis Carter of Plainview; a brother, Jim Carter of San Marino, Calif.; and a granddaughter. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday in First Christian Church with Roger Smelser, senior minister, and Rex Boyles officiating. Burial will be in Edith Ford Memorial Cemetery by Stickley-Hill Funeral Directors. Mrs. Pyeatt was born in Hamburg, Okla., and moved to Hemphill County as an infant. She was a charter member of Tri-C Home Demonstration Club in the Gem Community. She was a member of the 50+ Club, Sagebrush Painters and First Christian Church, where she taught Sunday school. She also taught Sunday school in the Gem Community Church. She married Nelson Clifton Pyeatt in 1925 at Hemphill County. He died in 1975. She also was preceded in death by an infant son in 1927. Amarillo Daily News, May 17, 2000 Lonnie Duane Barber CHILDRESS - Lonnie Duane Barber, 55, formerly of Childress, died Thursday, May 11, 2000, in Weatherford. Memorial graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in Childress Cemetery. Arrangements are by Johnson Funeral Home. Mr. Barber was born in Quanah. He worked for the Fort Worth and Denver Railway and for the Quanah, Acme & Pacific Railway at Quanah. He had been state inspector for the Texas Railroad Commission and at the time of his death was deputy regional administrator for the Federal Railroad Administration. He was a resident of Weatherford. In the early 1980s he owned and operated a Montgomery Ward catalog store in Childress. Survivors include his wife, Judy of the home; two sons, Jeff Barber of Amarillo and Gary Barber of Bastrop; a daughter, Kim Castleberry of Amarillo; a stepson, Bart Armstrong of Lubbock; two stepdaughters, Mandy Logan of Seminole and Christy Hilburn of Carrollton; his mother, Sue Barber of Childress; two brothers, Randy Barber of Amarillo and Neil Barber of Childress; two sisters, Sharon Longbine of Childress and Redonna Jones of Abilene; five grandchildren; and four step-grandchildren. She was a homemaker and member of the 6th Street Church of Christ. She married Andy Powell in 1933 at Hale Center. He died in 1984. She also was preceded in death by a son, Jack Powell, in 1999. She married Bruce Higgins in 1927 at Olton. He died in 1993. She moved to Amarillo from Garden City, Kan. She was a telegrapher agent for Santa Fe Railway from 1944-51. In 1978 she was recognized as Woman of the Year by the Amarillo chapter of the National Association of Railway Business Women. For 27 years she transcribed textbooks to Braille for blind students. In 1970 she received the Thomas Award for outstanding service to the visually impaired. She was an active member of Kingswood United Methodist Church. She married William Main in 1949 at Dodge City, Kan. Survivors include her husband; three daughters, Georgia Slabaugh of Dyersburg, Tenn., and Holly Allison and Laurie Klein, both of Amarillo; a son, Mark Main of Amarillo; a sister, Lorene Pember of Hays, Kan.; a brother, Leonard Stewart of Bay City, Mich.; eight, grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. In 1976 he moved to Amarillo, where he owned and operated Poor Boy Electric. Mr. Ellis was pastor of Beaulah Christian Center. He was pastor of the Church of Resurrection since 1996. He was married to Cindy Hanke in 1975 at Liberal, Kan.
