Allen, 84, died Thursday, Sept. 14, 2000, in Amarillo, Texas. Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday in Assembly of God Church in San Jon with the Rev. George Irving, pastor, officiating and Pastor Curtis Tucker of the Clovis Assembly of God Church assisting. Burial will be in the family plot at San Jon Cemetery. Arrangements are by Dunn Funeral Home. Mr. Allen was born in Snyder, Texas, and was a longtime resident of the Tucumcari area. He retired from Civil Service, where he was associated with Air Force Intelligence. After retiring as the pastor of Assembly of God Church in Tucumcari, he served at Fort Sumner Assembly of God Church. Survivors include his wife, Anna Allen; a son, Joe B. Allen of Greenville, Texas; two daughters, Betty Medina of Las Vegas and Wanda Nell Glidden of Redding, Calif.; a brother, O.D. Allen of Amarillo; a sister, Lillian Lee of Amarillo; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. DALHART - Gene Atkinson, 90, died Friday, Sept. 15, 2000. Memorial services will be at 3 p.m. Wednesday in the Gazebo in Memorial Park Cemetery with the Rev. Stephen Lowrie, pastor of First Baptist Church in Dalhart, officiating. Arrangements are by Hass Funeral Home. Mr. Atkinson was born in Byron, Okla., and in 1929, moved with his family to Moore County from Bartlesville, Okla. He later worked at Fourway and surrounding ranches and moved to Dalhart in 1952. He was a member of First Baptist Church, where he sang in the choir and taught Sunday school. He married Lily Crawford in 1935 at Sayer, Okla. She died in 1963. Survivors include a son, G.M. Atkinson of Dalhart; and a grandchild. The family suggests memorials be to Memorial Park Cemetery Perpetual Care Fund. HEREFORD - Frieda Bartels, 97, died Friday, Sept. 15, 2000. Prayer vigil will be at 7:30 p.m. today in Rix Funeral Directors Chapel. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday in St. Anthony's Catholic Church with Deacon Jonny Cloud of the church and the Rev. Edward Sweeney of St. Teresa's Catholic Church of Friona officiating. Burial will be in St. Anthony's Catholic Cemetery. Mrs. Bartels was born in Shawnee, Okla., and moved to Hereford in 1973 from Hermleigh. In Hermleigh she was a member of St. John's Catholic Church, the Ladies Alter Society, the choir and Sons of Hermman. In Hereford, she was a member of St. Anthony's Catholic Church. She married John A. Bartels in 1922 at Hermleigh. He died in 1982. Survivors include three daughters, Anita Schilling of Dimmitt, Hilda Reissig of Houston and Bernice Layman of Hereford; two sons, Leonard Bartels and Erwin Bartels, both of Hereford; 32 grandchildren; 64 great-grandchildren and 13 great-great-grandchildren. PORTALES, N.M. - Johnnie Ruth Hughes Fuller, 84, died Friday, Sept. 15, 2000, in Lubbock, Texas. Services will be at 2:30 p.m. Monday in Liberty Baptist Church with Brothers Wayne Fuller and Jim Green officiating. Burial will be in Portales Cemetery by Steed-Todd Funeral Home of Clovis. Mrs. Fuller was born in Childress, Texas. Wife of the pastor and a member of Liberty Baptist Church, she taught kindergarten and Sunday school. She is survived by her husband, Wayne Fuller. They married in 1946 at Carrizozo. LEFORS - Leta Gifford, 93, formerly of Lefors, died Thursday, Sept. 14, 2000. Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday in Priest Park Church of God in Pampa with Pastor Melvin Harris officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Heights Cemetery at Lefors by Minton / Chatwell Funeral Directors of Borger. Mrs. Gifford was born in Atwell and moved south of Borger in 1943 and to Lefors in 1949. She was a member of the Panhandle Bluegrass and Old Time Music Association and Priest Park Church of God in Pampa. She married M.F. "Skeet" Gifford in 1926 at Marlow, Okla. He preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Mattie Garrison. Survivors include three sons, Alvie Gifford of Pampa, Eudell Gifford of Lefors and Melvin Gifford of Geronimo, Okla.; two daughters, Velda Chadwick of Las Vegas and Mary Frances Lezak of Austin; a brother, Raymond Carter of Saxon, Okla.; a sister, Pauline Eason of California; 16 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren. PAMPA - Rex Green, 79, died Friday, Sept. 15, 2000, in Amarillo. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Monday in Fairview Cemetery with the Rev. Alfred Caviness, retired Full Gospel minister, officiating. Arrangements are by Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors. Mr. Green was born in El Dorado, Kan., and moved to Pampa in 1946 from Reno, Nev. A veteran of the Marines during World War II, he was co-owner of Green Construction Co. and worked through the U.S. government installing grain storage units from 1940-1960. He owned Highway Package Store until his retirement. A Protestant, he was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Pampa Chamber of Commerce. He married Velma E. Canaday in 1970 at Pampa. She died in 1981. Survivors include two brothers, David E. Green of Lubbock and Jerry N. Green of Corvallis, Ore. Ignacio V. Hernandez, 85, of Amarillo, died Friday, Sept. 15, 2000. Rosary will be recited at 6 p.m. today in Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, Ivy Chapel, 2820 Virginia Circle, with Deacon Hector Gallegos reciting. Mass will be at 2 p.m. Monday in Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church with Monsignor Rick Nichols as celebrant. Burial will be in Llano Cemetery with military rites by D.A.V. Chapter No. 26. Mr. Hernandez was born in Santa Rosa, N.M., and lived in Amarillo most of his life. A veteran of the Army during World War II, he worked in the parts department at Plains Chevrolet. He was a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church and a volunteer at Amarillo Senior Citizens Association. His wife, Pauline Hernandez, died in 1989. His son, Leroy Hernandez, died in 1995. Survivors include a daughter, Dorothy Darnell of Amarillo; three sons, Felix Hernandez, Dave Hernandez, and Ronnie Hernandez, all of Amarillo; eight grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren. Ernie L. Hudson, 37, of Amarillo, died Thursday, Sept. 14, 2000. Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday in N.S. Griggs & Sons Funeral Directors, Pioneer Chapel, 2615 Paramount Blvd., with the Rev. Paul Richardson, pastor of Rockwell Road Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Memory Gardens Cemetery. Mr. Hudson was born in Blackwell, Okla., and grew up in Amarillo, where he attended school. He worked as an auto glass glazer and installer in Amarillo and Dallas, where he moved in 1992. Survivors include his parents, Francis and Irene Hudson of Amarillo; a sister, Laura Hatten of Amarillo and two brothers, Randy Hudson of Amarillo and Rick Hudson of Houston. BORGER - Roger Dale Mahan, 56, died Saturday, Sept. 16, 2000. Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday in Keeler Baptist Church with the Rev. Paul Anderson, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Westlawn Park Cemetery in the Garden of Love by Minton / Chatwell Funeral Directors. Mr. Mahan was born in Quanah and was a longtime resident of Borger. A veteran of the Army, he was a heavy equipment operator and a member of Bunavista Baptist Church. Survivors include a son, Roger Alyn Mahan of Borger; four daughters, Stephanie Mahan of Fritch, Revelle Mahan of Skellytown, and Sharndon Thomas and Brandi Irlas, both of Borger; three sisters, Ebbie Wells and Donnell Drake, both of Borger, and Linda Ashby of Fritch; and six grandchildren. SILVERTON - E.H. McGavock, 74, died Saturday, Sept. 16, 2000. Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday in First Baptist Church with the Rev. Randy Mullin, the Rev. Edwin Norris and the Rev. Dean McNamara officiating. Burial will be in Silverton Cemetery by Myers-Long Funeral Directors. Mr. McGavock was born between Lockney and Silverton, where he was a lifetime resident. An Army veteran of the Korean War, he was a retired welder. He married Glenda Frazier in 1953 at Lawton, Okla. Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Debbie Curtis of Amarillo; two sons, Bill McGavock of Silverton and Victor McGavock of Amarillo; two sisters, Hazel McDaniel of Amarillo and Ruth Mowery of Anaheim, Calif.; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Viewing will be at the funeral home until 1 p.m. Monday. CANADIAN - William Dale Nix, 85, Amarillo native and formerly of Canadian, died Friday, Sept. 15, 2000. Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Monday in Cox Chapel of Highland Park United Methodist Church in Dallas with the Rev. William B. Smith and the Right Rev. Sam B. Hulsey, retired Episcopal Bishop of Northwest Texas, officiating. Burial will be in Edith Ford Cemetery at Canadian by Sparkman Hillcrest Funeral Directors of Dallas. Mr. Nix was born in Amarillo. After graduating from Canadian High School he graduated from Texas A&M University in 1936 with a bachelor of science degree. A lieutenant colonel in the Army during World War II, he was owner and operator of Nix Ranch and Nix Cattle Co. in Canadian more than 60 years. He was director of the Canadian Production Credit Association, the Federal Land Bank of Pampa, the Texas Farm Credit Board and the Federal Farm Credit Board, where he was chairman in 1981 and 1982. In 1985 he received the Texas Academy of Honor in Agricultural Credit and from 1982-1983 he was chairman of Texas A&M College of Agriculture Development Council. He moved to Dallas in 1978. Survivors include his wife, Mary Alice Quattlebaum Nix; a son, the Rev. William D. Nix Jr. of Amarillo; three grandchildren and a great-grandchild. Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday in Lawn Haven Memorial Gardens with Dr. Thomas P. Jones officiating. Arrangements are by Muffley Funeral Home. Mrs. Pugh was born in Knob Noster, Mo., and had lived in Clovis since 1947. She was a homemaker and a member of Central Christian Church. She married Charles Pugh in 1952 at Hobbs. He died in 1995. Survivors include a nephew, Dale L. Dunham of Spokane, Wash.; and a niece, Marty Martin of Graham, Wash. Frank Reams, 93, of Amarillo, died Saturday, Sept. 16, 2000. Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Monday in Llano Cemetery with the Rev. Ronnie Tucker of Friendship Baptist Church officiating. Arrangements are by Blackburn-Shaw Funeral Directors, Memorial Chapel, 315 E. Fifth Ave. Mr. Reams was born in Berlin, Okla., and moved to Amarillo in 1930 from Coleman. A veteran of the Army during World War II, he was a retired barber and a member of Friendship Baptist Church. His wife, Opal Reams, died in 1995. Survivors include a daughter, Frankie O'Rand of Amarillo; two sons, Bill Reams and Carrol Reams, both of Amarillo; 11 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren and a great-great-grandchild. The family suggests memorials be to Friendship Baptist Church. CLOVIS, N.M. - Brandon Keith Roach, infant son of Becky and Daron Roach, died Wednesday, Sept. 13, 2000. Brandon was born in Plains Regional Medical Center in Clovis. Survivors include his parents; a brother, Spencer Roach of Clovis; grandparents, Johnny and Aileen Eastwood, Don and Sheryl Reid, and C.L. Roach, all of Clovis; and great-grandparents, Walter and Dorothy Baldock, Tommy and Viola Fickling and Ruby Davis, all of Clovis. CLOVIS, N.M. - Victor Sandoval, 61, died Friday, Sept. 15, 2000. Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Monday in Mission Garden of Memories with Deacon Daniel Chavez officiating. Arrangements are by Muffley Funeral Home. Mr. Sandoval married Graciela Perez in 1967 in El Paso, Texas, and moved to Clovis later that year. He worked at Bender's Body Shop until 1979 and then owned and operated Vick's Body Shop out of his home. In 1988 he began working for Southwestern Mail Service. Survivors include his wife; two sons, Victor Sandoval Jr. of Clovis and Omar Sandoval of Lubbock, Texas; a daughter, Lorena Kroeger of Las Vegas; seven brothers, Johnny Sandoval, Arturo Sandoval, Alfredo Sandoval, Jose Angel Sandoval and Antonio Sandoval, all of El Paso, Manuel Vallejo of San Diego, and Armando Sandoval of Phoenix; two sisters, Petra Sandoval of Juarez, Mexico and Elvia Sandoval of Los Angeles; and a grandchild. BOISE CITY, Okla. - Wilma Nell Saunders, 80, died Friday, Sept. 15, 2000. Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday in Boise City Church of Christ with John Henley officiating. Burial will be Boise City Cemetery by Cimarron Mortuary. Mrs. Saunders was born in Spearman, Texas, and had lived in Boise City since 1926. After she married Kenneth E. Saunders in 1940 they worked for various departments in the United States Department of Agriculture in Cimarron County. She was a member of Church of Christ and a founding member of Home Culture Club. Her husband and a son, Robert Saunders, preceded her in death. Survivors include three sons, John Saunders of Buckhannon, W.V., Roger Saunders of Edmond, and David Saunders of Emporia, Kan.; a daughter, Nancy Kline of Boise City; two brothers, Robert Johnston of Abilene, Texas, and William Johnston of Sweetwater, Texas; and two grandchildren. The family suggests memorials be to Soutar Memorial Library in Boise City, and may be left in care of Cimarron Mortuary. WIMBERLEY - Louise Roper Wallace, 84, died Friday, Sept. 15, 2000. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday in First Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Wimberley Cemetery by Thomason Funeral Home. Mrs. Wallace was born in Wellington and moved to the Mobeetie area in 1917 with her family. In 1923 they moved to Wheeler, where she graduated from school in 1933. She returned to Mobeetie and later attended Amarillo Junior College. She retired from Fedway and Kline's Retailing. She was a member of Temple Baptist Church, Sunday school and Joy Club. After moving to Wimberley in 1993, she was a member of First Baptist Church, Mary Martha Sunday School Class, PEP, and A.A.R.P. She married Earl Wallace in 1943. He preceded her in death. Survivors include a daughter, Jean Morris; a stepson, Dickie Wallace; a grandchild; a step-grandchild and a great-grandchild. Visitation will be from noon until 4 p.m. today in the funeral home. SILVERTON - Lem Weaver, 89, died Saturday, Sept. 16, 2000. Services will be at 3 p.m. today in First Methodist Church with the Rev. Jay Stinson and the Rev. Edwin Norris officiating. Burial will be in Silverton Cemetery by Myers-Long Funeral Directors. Mr. Weaver was born in Jonesboro and graduated from high school in Gatesville. After attending Tarlton Junior College he taught at Mount Zion School. After graduating from Texas Tech University he taught at High Point in Childress County. From 1936-39 he taught high school agriculture in Silverton. After serving as Briscoe County Agent and Lamb County Agent he returned to Silverton to farm. He was a member of Silverton United Methodist Church. He married Valeria Grace Williamson in 1936 at Childress. Survivors include his wife; three daughters, Valettra Ann Coleman of Dozier, Karla Gayle Alexander of Lubbock and Tina Irene Nance of Silverton; a son, Max Ray Weaver of Silverton; a brother, Shafe Weaver of Silverton; 10 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren and a great-great-grandchild. The family suggests memorials be to the Elevator Fund at Silverton United Methodist Church.
