"Tom" Johnson, 82, died Sunday, Jan. 16, 2000. Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in First Assembly of God with the Rev. Shannon Davis of Victory Memorial United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will be in Elmhurst Cemetery by HensonNovak Funeral Directors. Mr. Johnson was born in Citra and spent his early years near Ada. He worked for the Civilian Conservation Corps in Sentinel. He married Margaret Rich in 1940. He served in the Navy during World War II and moved to Guymon in 1951. He worked in construction, real estate, plumbing and agriculture. He was chairman for the Pioneer Day Celebration for more than 10 years. He also was a Guymon Ambassador. Mr. Johnson was a Master Mason of Guymon Masonic Lodge No. 335, AF&AM. He was a Past Master, was a 32nd Degree Scottish Rite Mason of the Valley of Guthrie Consistory, and was a member of India Shrine Temple of Oklahoma City. He received his 50-year pin in 1997. He was a member of First Assembly of God. Survivors include his wife; two sons, Tom G. Johnson of Alameda, Calif., and Gary Don Johnson of Guymon; a sister, Nola Maloney of Rialto, Calif.; two grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Mrs. Harper was born in Amarillo and attended Amarillo High School. She retired from the Santa Fe Railway and moved to Tulsa in 1978. She married William S. Harper in 1949 at Amarillo. She was preceded in death by a son, Kenneth S. Harper. Survivors include her husband; a daughter, Judith H. Carpenter; a son, Robert T. Mr. Millikan was born in Beaver County and graduated from Beaver High School in 1941. He then attended mechanic's school in Enid and technical training in Stillwater. Mr. Millikan retired as a machinist for Tinker Air Force Base and had worked for MacDonald Douglas in Tulsa and Oklahoma City. He also was employed as a security guard for Oklahoma Baptist University. He was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church. He married Ella Mae Leisher in 1942 at Oklahoma City. Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Carolyn Small of Santa Rosa, Calif.; and four sisters, Patricia Huddleston of Logan, Lavena Winfough and Jean Cordell, both of Havensville, Kan., and Rosemary Holloway of Arkhoma. Hilliard of San Antonio; a daughter, Jean Roach of Kaufman; five grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. Amarillo Daily News, Jan. 19, 2000 Mertie B. Allen Scheid HOUSTON - Mertie B. Allen Scheid, 93, formerly of Quitaque and Tulia, died Saturday, Jan. 15, 2000. In accordance with Mrs. Scheid's wishes, there will be no memorial services. Arrangements were by Earthman Funeral Directors and Cemeteries of Houston. Mrs. Scheid was born in McKinney and educated at the College of Industrial Arts (now Texas Woman's University). For many years she taught school in Childress and Quitaque then moved to Tulia in 1950. In 1998 she moved to Houston. She married E.W. Scheid in 1929. He died in 1979. Survivors include her son, Mark Scheid of Houston, and two granddaughters. The family suggest memorials be to Swisher County Library of Tulia or a charity of one's choice. During World War II, he served in the Army with the E 23rd Calvary Reconnaissance Squadron. He married Willie Fern Rich Brewer in 1979 at Shamrock. He had been assistant postmaster general in Washington, D.C., and had served as Texas campaign manager for Dwight D. Eisenhower. She married William "Bill" Kelton who died in 1955. She also was preceded in death by a son, Murle Kelton. He received a number of medals, including the Bronze Star with Oak Leaf Cluster and the Purple Heart. He worked more than 46 years for Santa Fe Railway in Amarillo. He married Peggy Steinert in 1957 at Canyon. Survivors include his wife; a stepdaughter, Onlee Boswell of Lubbock; a brother, Howard Saylor of Richmond, Ky.; two sisters, Carolyn Hopkins of Walker, La., and Margarett Morin of Kentucky; two grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Interstate 40, with Bill Goodwin of the Church of Christ officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Mr. Slayton was born in Pocahontas, Ark., and lived in Amarillo for most of his life. During World War II he served with the Army and Navy. For many years he was employed by the U.S. Post Office. He was a member of the Church of Christ. He married Iva Belle Mathews in 1950 at Clovis, N.M. She died in 1970. Survivors include a sister, Nell Rowe of Olney; two nephews; and two nieces. Amarillo Daily News, Jan. 19, 2000 M.C. McCartor M.C. "Mac" McCartor, 87, of Amarillo, died Tuesday, Jan. 18, 2000. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday in Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, Ivy Chapel, 2820 Virginia Circle, with the Rev. Scott Greer, pastor of Paramount Terrace Christian Church, officiating. Burial will be in Llano Cemetery. Mr. McCartor was born in Shattuck, Okla. He received his bachelor's degree from Southwestern Oklahoma Institute of Technology and his master's degree in school administration from West Texas State University. During World War II he served in the Army Air Corps. In his early years, Mr. McCartor taught school in Oklahoma. After his discharge from the military he moved to Amarillo where he was an instructor and education officer at the Amarillo Air Base until his retirement. He was then involved in several businesses including as president of Southwest Speedway and M&M Music Co. He married Melba Walker in 1942 at Hinton, Okla. Survivors include his wife; two sons, Jimmy Ray McCartor and Robert Dean McCartor, both of Amarillo; a brother, Don McCartor of Amarillo; a sister, Alta Nunes of Orland, Calif.; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Services will be at 10 a.m. today in Dunn Funeral Home Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Benny C. Hipps, associate pastor of First Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Tucumcari Memorial Park Cemetery. Mrs. Beck was born in West Virginia. She moved to Tucumcari from Chicago in 1977. She was a homemaker and a member of First Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Sam Beck, in 1983. Survivors include many nieces and nephews. Visitation continues until 10 a.m. today at the funeral home. Graveside services were at 3 p.m. Tuesday in Tucumcari Memorial Park Cemetery with Pastor Johnny Lindsey officiating. Arrangements were by Dunn Funeral Home. Mrs. Maberry was born in Wahoo, Neb., and had lived in Tucumcari for 20 years. She earned a master's degree in English and art. She was a retired teacher and member of the Seventh-day Adventist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Norman J. Maberry, in 1996. Rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. today in Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Mass will be celebrated at 9 a.m. Thursday in the church by the Rev. Carlos Chavez. Burial will be in Santa Fe National Cemetery at Santa Fe by Muffley Funeral Home. Mrs. Cabiness was born in Clovis. She worked as a cashier for the city of Clovis, retiring after 22 years. She attended Sacred Heart Catholic Church. She married Robert Earl Cabiness in 1962. He died in 1996. Survivors include a son, Michael Cabiness of Tehachapi, Calif.; a brother, Seledon Trujillo of Medford, Ore.; three sisters, Virginia Casaus of Clovis, Madeline Hughes of Cool, Calif., and Frances Hand of Huntington Beach, Calif.; and two grandchildren. Arrangements are by Steed-Todd Funeral Home. Mrs. Irwin was born in Peru, Kan., and moved to Clovis in 1963. She was a homemaker. She was a member of the Air Force Sergeants Association Auxiliary, Fraternal Order of the Eagles Auxiliary and the American Association of Retired Persons. She also was a local and state commander of the Disabled American Veterans Auxiliary. She volunteered with the Veterans Administration and had 5,000 volunteer hours. Her husband, James Howard Irwin, preceded her in death. Survivors include a niece, Karen Wehba of Weatherford, Texas; and two great-nephews. Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday in Kingswood United Methodist Church with Dr. Mark Scott officiating. Burial will be in Lawn Haven Memorial Gardens Cemetery by Muffley Funeral Home of Clovis. Mr. Hart was born in Eva, Okla., and graduated from Guymon High School in 1953, then Oklahoma State University in 1957. He worked for the city of Amarillo prior to working for International Harvester from 1958 until 1968. Until 1989, Mr. Hart owned and operated Harts, Inc., then he went into the insurance and real estate business. He served in the National Guard. He was a member of Kingswood United Methodist Church. He married Mavis Stinson in 1958. Survivors include his wife; three daughters, Peggy Hart of Sugar Land, Texas, Susan Chavez of Lubbock, Texas and Kathy Hart of McAllen, Texas; two sisters, Virginia Crane of Mesquite and Bonnie Shaw of Guymon, Okla.; and four grandchildren.
