Whatley PAMPA - Herman R. Whatley, 92, died Tuesday, Oct. 17, 2000, in Amarillo. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday in First Baptist Church with the Rev. John Glover, associate pastor, and the Rev. Randy White, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery by Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors. Mr. Whatley was born in Lampasas County and moved to Pampa in 1921. He graduated from Pampa High School in 1925, where he played football. He attended Howard Payne University at Brownwood. He received his funeral director's license in 1936. He worked for G.C. Malone Funeral Home and Duenkel-Carmichael Funeral Home before becoming a partner in Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors in 1965. He retired in 1981. He was a member and deacon of First Baptist Church and was a member and past president of the Downtown Kiwanis Club. He served on the Pampa Independent School District Board from 1947 to 1956. He had been a ham radio operator since 1939. Mr. Whatley married Vera Cruz in 1929 at Haskell. She died in 1999. Survivors include a daughter, Vicki Sanders of Plano; and a granddaughter. She lived in Farmington, Ark., for six years before moving to Clarendon two months ago. She had worked as a retail clerk before retiring. She was a homemaker and a member of Northeast United Pentecostal Church in Fayetteville. She married Jesse Kerr Carter in 1956 at Amarillo. He died in 1994. Survivors include two daughters, Barbara Kay Carter Morgans of Athens, Ohio, and Beverly Denise Carter Burrow of Clarendon; three sons, Michael Carter of Erick, Okla., John Mark Carter of Uvalde and Harlan Wayne Carter of Dalhart; her mother, Ruby E. Pope of Fayetteville; two sisters, Gerald Dean Baughman of Fayetteville and Shirley Fern Crossan of Garland; two brothers, J.N. He was a lieutenant colonel in the Air Force. He was a member of the First Baptist Church. He married Anita McCown in 1990 at Dumas. Mrs. Trevino was born in Crystal City. She moved to Plainview in 1970 and to Lubbock in 1992 then returned to Plainview this year. She had worked at the Care Inn Nursing Home. She was a homemaker and a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church. She married Eulalio Trevino in 1970. She was preceded in death by a son, Joaquin Lopez Jr., in January. She married Robert Lee Kratz in 1977 at Las Vegas. She was preceded in death by her first husband, C.R. Murphy, in 1976. Survivors include her husband; two sons, James R. Graveside rites will be rendered by the Disabled American Veterans Chapter No. 26. Arrangements are by Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 S. Georgia St. Mr. Plant was born in Balk Knob, Ark. He graduated from Amarillo High School. During World War II, he served in the Army Air Corps as a fighter pilot. He retired from the U.S. Postal Service and later worked for the Amarillo Globe-News. He was involved in Boys Ranch, Maverick Club and Kids, Inc. Survivors include two sons, Johnny Plant of Amarillo and Tom Plant of Houston; two stepsons, Ronald Timberlake of Dallas and Mark Timberlake of Seattle; a stepdaughter, Mary Ann Young of Albuquerque, N.M.; a sister, Mildred Burch of Amarillo; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Mrs. Logsdon was born in Okeene and had lived in Farwell since 1999 moving from Watonga. She was a member of the Christian Church in Watonga. She had operated a creamery and feed store and was a housekeeper. She married Loyd Dennis Logsdon in 1935 at Kingfisher. He died in 1965. She also was preceded in death by a son, Wayne D. Logsdon; and by a daughter, Paula Mae Irving. Burial will be in Elmhurst Cemetery by Bunch-Roberts Funeral Home. Mrs. Gonzales was born in Barney, N.M. She moved to Keyes in 1945 and to Guymon in 1960. She was a homemaker and a member of the First Pentecostal Holiness Church. She married Manuel D. Roybal in 1935 at Clayton, N.M. He died in 1971. She also was preceded in death by three sons. She married Santiago "Jimmy" Gonzales in 1984 at Stratford. Survivors include her husband; a son, Manuel Roybal Jr. of Guymon; five daughters, Marcia Rodriguez, Georgia Delao and Dorothy Roybal, all of Guymon, Juanita Blackburn of Hugoton, Kan., and Lynda Garcia of Albuquerque, N.M.; two brothers, Max Martin of California and Bert Armijo of Albuquerque; three sisters, Irene Martinez of Raton, N.M., and Julia Brown and Patsy Armijo, both of Denver; 45 grandchildren; 85 great-grandchildren; and 14 great-greatgrandchildren. Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Friday in the church by the Rev. Renard. Burial will be in Trinidad Catholic Cemetery by Comi Funeral Home. Mrs. Miller was born in Lawrence, Neb. She married Edwin Miller in 1926 at Slaton, Texas. They moved in 1946 to the Hoehne area, where they farmed and ranched. Mr. Miller died in 1994. Survivors include a son, Tom Miller of Hoehne; four daughters, Viola Morris and Edna Van Gundy, both of Hoehne, Bernice Schwertner of Dumas, Texas, and Allene Crichton of Trinidad; 16 grandchildren; and 24 great-grandchildren. The family suggests memorials in lieu of flowers be to Holy Trinity Catholic Church; Trinidad Catholic School; or a favorite charity. Visitation will be from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. today at the funeral home. The family also will receive visitors at St. Joseph Hall on Friday after the funeral. Mrs. Walker was a retired medical assistant and a member of the Bowie Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dennis W. Walker. Survivors include two sons, Dennis Walker of North Richland Hills and Jim Walker of Azle; a brother, Granvil Brady of Houston; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
