McConnell Mildred J. McConnell, 80, of Amarillo, died Saturday, Sept. 16, 2000. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. today in Fairview Cemetery at Pampa with J. Alan Ford, pastor of Southwest Baptist Church, officiating. Arrangements are by Rector Funeral Home, 2800 S. Osage St. Mrs. McConnell was born in Seminole County, Okla. She was a homemaker and a nurse's aide at Worley Hospital and Coronado Hospital in Pampa. She moved to Amarillo in 1982 from Pampa. She married George E. McConnell in 1937 at Hugoton, Kan. He died in 1969. Survivors include two daughters, Patricia A. Downey of Amarillo and Marcia Ward of Oklahoma City; four grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. The family will be at 411 Tammy Ave. Amarillo Daily News, Sept. 19, 2000 Lucille T. Paulsen Lucille T. Paulsen, 87, of Amarillo, died Monday, Sept. 18, 2000. Burial will be in Memory Gardens by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2820 Virginia Circle. Mrs. Paulsen was born in Sergeant Bluff, Iowa. She lived in the Amarillo area since 1982. She was a member of Professional Educators Organization Chapter Z, Federated Women's Club of Canyon, Canyon Garden Club, Canyon Book Club and Canyon Senior Citizens Association. She was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church of Canyon. She married Walter Larsen in 1934 at Sioux City, Iowa. He died in 1960. She married Joe Paulsen in 1964 at Yankton, S.D. He died in 1982. Survivors include a daughter, Diane Vinyard of Amarillo; a sister, Viola Schlotman of Sioux City; two grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Private services will be Wednesday at Bentley Funeral Home in Wilton. Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in Clayton Memorial Cemetery by Hass Funeral Directors. Mrs. Elliott was born in Marengo, Ind. She attended Indiana State Teachers College. She moved to Clayton in 1947 from Terre Haute, Ind. In 1995 she moved to Muscatine, Iowa. She was an artist and genealogist. She was a member of First United Methodist Church, Professional Educators Organization Chapter W in Clayton and Chapter MM in Muscatine; Daughters of the American Revolution and Order of the Eastern Star. She married Rector P. Elliott in 1923 at New Albany, Ind. He died in 1973. Survivors include a son, Arlen Elliott of Muscatine; four grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. Mr. Fields was born in Winniewood, Okla. He worked for Dickens Co. Electric Coop., in Spur, Texas. He retired from Rio Grande Electric Coop at Brackettville, Texas. After retiring he moved to Afton, Okla. and lived there more than 25 years. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Spur. In 1995 he moved to Clovis. He married Jo Moore in 1953 at Roby. She died in June. Survivors include three daughters, Suzy Harris of Clovis, Becky Arey of Point, Texas and Cisco Barron of Angel Fire; three brothers, Frank Fields of Afton, John Fields of Bartlesville, Okla., and J.L. Fields of Kennewick, Wash.; two sisters, Elizabeth Grooms of Bartlesville and Sarah Applegate of Dewey, Okla.; 13 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren. Mrs. Steinkuehler was born in Wood County, near Alba, Texas. She moved to Guymon in the 1930s from Stinnett, Texas. She moved to Lubbock in 1998. She was a homemaker and a member of Sunset Lane Baptist Church, the Mary Martha Sunday school class and T.O.P.S. She married Gilbert Steinkuehler in 1943. He died in 1991. Survivors include a daughter, Clydene Lewis of Lubbock; a son, Harvie Steinkuehler of Dodge City, Kan.; a sister, Eunice Blackwell of Borger, Texas; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Mrs. Murphy was born in Wise County and came to West Texas in a covered wagon. She married Romie Jewell in 1925 at Newlin. He died in 1963. Breon FOLLETT - Opal Katherine Kliewer Breon, 78, died Friday, Sept. 15, 2000. Services were at 10:30 a.m. Monday in First Baptist Church with the Rev. Clay Wells and Floyd Thiessen officiating. Burial was in Fairmont Cemetery by Seeger Funeral Home of Laverne, Okla. Mrs. Breon was born southwest of Follett and graduated from Follett High School in 1941. She and her husband lived near Laverne and Booker, where they farmed. They moved to Follett in 1959. She retired in 1988 after 16 years as a secretary with the Lipscomb County Extension Office. She was a member of Friends Church in Booker and attended First Baptist Church in Follett. She married Wayne Breon in 1941 at Beaver, Okla. He died in 1998. Survivors include two sons, Larry Breon and Merl Breon, both of Hondo; two brothers, Cornelius Kliewer and Leeroy Kiewer, both of Follett; a sister, Josephine Piel of Follett; three grandsons; and special friends, Ada Heferkamp and Martha Herber, both of Follett. Amarillo Daily News, Sept. 19, 2000 Loy Wayland Stewart COTTON CENTER - Loy Wayland Stewart, 89, died Friday, Sept. 15, 2000. Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday in First Baptist Church with the Rev. Raymond Jones of Santa Anna and the Rev. J. Dean McNamara, chaplain for Vista Care Hospice, officiating. Burial will be in Plainview Memorial Park at Plainview by Freeman-Abell Funeral Home in Hale Center. Mr. Stewart was born in the Halfway Community. He attended school at Runningwater, Stoneback and Kress. During World War II he worked as a blacksmith in Cotton Center. He volunteered as a driver for the Cotton Center girls' basketball teams and drove a bus route for the school. He farmed in Cotton Center and ran a disc-sharpening business. He was involved in the FFA and was named Honorary Chapter Farmer. He was a member of Woodmen of the World and was named Mr. Woodman in 1965 by the Hale Center Lodge. He helped organize the Hale County Farm and Ranch Museum. He was a member of First Baptist Church. He married Marion Ruth Dewey in 1932 at Iowa Avenue Community. She died in 1998. Survivors include a daughter, Norma Sue Ashby of Cotton Center; a sister, Evelyn Bogart of Fence Lake, N.M.; a brother, Morton Stewart of Wichita Falls; three grandsons and seven great-grandchildren. Mrs. Cheek was born in Odell. She lived in Wilbarger and Hardeman counties and later moved to Childress. She was a retired sitter and health care provider. She was a member of Primitive Baptist Church in Odell and Childress Senior Citizens. She married A.B. Cheek in 1927 in Wilbarger County. He died in 1973. Survivors include two sons, J.R. Cheek of Chillicothe and Harold Cheek of Childress; two brothers, J.B. Barnfield and Loyd Barnfield, both of Vernon; two sisters, Hester Lee Reynolds and Adelle McLaughlin, both of Vernon; three grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Mr. Dawdy was born in Erath County and moved to Idalou in 1921. He graduated from Idalou High School in 1929 and attended Abilene Christian University. He farmed in Idalou and served on the board of Idalou Co-op Gin. He was a member and elder of Auburn Street Church of Christ in Lubbock. He married Faye Baker in 1940 at Idalou. Survivors include his wife; two sons, Roger Dawdy of Honey Grove and J.O. Dawdy of Floydada; two daughters, Marilyn Robertson of Longview and Carol Griffin of Amarillo; a sister, Ina Vickers Stell of Albuquerque, N.M.; 11 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. He married Bessie Neal in 1929 at Clayton, N.M., and they moved to their ranch in 1936. Mrs. Day died in 1985. Survivors include a daughter, Peggy Zager of Albuquerque, N.M.; three sons, Charlie Day and Woody Day, both of Texline, and Jimmy Day of Clayton; eight grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. She married Robert Arredondo in 1943 at Lamesa. He died in 1994. She also was preceded in death by a daughter, Marisela Arredondo, in 1999. Survivors include three daughters, Ada Ortiz of Vinita, Okla., and Cira Arredondo and Dominga Aguirre, both of Plainview; a son, Victor Gomez of Plainview and Tony Gomez of Mertzon; three sisters, Eloisa Nagar, Amelia Rodriquez and Delfina Hernandez, all of Plainview; seven grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
